Galaxy J5 adaptable storage 6.0.1 - Samsung Galaxy J5 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hello
I have tested this method to enable adaptable storage and use external SDcard as internal memory from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/general/patch-adoptable-storage-enabler-t3460521
Note that this is native storage enabler, so no terminal or other hacks involved.
1. Download: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424965737
2. Flash it with TWRP
3. Go to Storage - SDcard
4. Format sdcard it will prompt you to use it as internal memory, select that, wait for process to finish, reboot.
Now you have external sdcard as internal memory, i have tested this on J500F on marshmallow 6.0.1 and it works, only problem is that Smart Manager reports 97% used memory out of 64GB , cleaning and other functions works like normal, but this is not a problem since i have deleted Smart Manager anyways and use SD Maid.

Didn't work for me. I've tried root essential and it did the trick.

It works, first format the Card then flash the zip in recovery.

@LONEWOLF#95
Take a look at this. It is working on J500F, confirmed by @MaDaLiNoSt .

can you tell me why the internal storage is 17gb used of 32 gb , when you have 8gb internal and 14gb external SD?? is this bugged? OP did mention that his smart manager showed different readings as well

Yes, it is a bug, but I don't mind it.
Smart manager also showing a bug, but on my PC, it shows how many memory I used.
My phone is rooted. Also flashed that zip file via twrp, but no luck. Then just jnstalled Root Essentials, and the app is formated my card, reboot, and works. Also using a custom rom!!!!!

Just remove Smart Manager app and install SD Maid, smart manager will dissapear from menu anyways, also file manager display wrong value you can delete it too and install root explorer, then convert all to system apps and enjoy

Thanks good módel FN 6.0.1

Now its working.

If you cant see format as internal memory in storage, just click regular format it will then ask you what you want to do with memory card, simple as that

Hello, J500FN user here. Can someone confirm whether this is working on this model? Previously some users mentioned that Root Essentials actually did the trick. Which of the two actually works? The thread's zip, Root Essentials or a combination of both? Thanks.

The zip method should work on all models. I don't see why it wouldn't work on X model.
I've seen that Root Essentials is an app. I don't know how it works, but since some guy confirmed that is working on other model, it should work on J500FN too.
In any case, backup your stuff before.

Thank you for the reply. That's good to know. I would also like to know what will happen if I perform a factory reset. If I re-format the card after the factory reset, will it integrate again correctly with the device?

I don't know, but I did a search and found the answer about how to undo/remove adoptable storage: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/4km6ob/removing_adoptable_storage/ .
There is a topic/post with more information about adoptable storage: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/496sn3/lets_clear_up_the_confusion_regarding_storage_in/ .
I have readed a comment there saying that sdcard can't be used in laptop for example (through an adaptor I guess) if you choose adoptable storage. Original comment and answer:
Question:[–]JangoF76OnePlus 3 1 point 7 months ago
So, I use my external sd card mainly for storing music. If I adopt it as internal storage, can I still remove it from my phone and put it into my laptop to transfer music files?
Answer:[–]DarkFlames101Galaxy S4 Mini, CM13 3 points 7 months ago
Nope. It will only be usable on your phone.

I think that the phone will be slower when you use adoptable storage. There's a benchmark in the link with more informations.

Thank you very much. The links are rich in valuable information. I think all my questions are answered. I will eventually try this trick and report back here.

Finally I got it. :fingers-crossed: I wasn't able to use MM for the low storage issue.
Yesterday after viewing this thread I flashed MM rom and tried Root Essentials first, it was not working for me.
Then I flashed the zip, but there was no change in settings>storage. So, at first I thought no luck for me.
Then I noticed a notification of new sd card with two options: setup & unmount. I clicked setup and it gave me option to format as adoptable.
There is a bug that wrongly calculates total space and space used. But this issue does't bother me as I can see actual use on third party file managers.
Update:
You can't move apps to SD card when you 've formatted it as adoptable. So eventually your phone memory will be filled up as you install new apps. :crying: Only good thing is external data of apps (like received media files of whatsapp) will go to sd card.
I need something to move whole app to sd card.
Switching back to LL :crying::crying:

Requirements:
- A Smartphone
- Root
- Busybox
- Android
- A FORMATTED 2GB MicroSD Card or Higher
- The MiniTool Partition Wizard (Free)
- Link2SD
Step 1: Partition your MicroSD Card
Note: To make this post, I will use a 16 GB card as an example. You can use any size you prefer.
First: Connect your MicroSD with the adapter to your computer and open the MiniTool Partition Wizard.
You can see the principal partition of you memory card. Right Click on it and Choose Delete.
Insure that you select your memory card and NOT your hard drive!!!!!
Next: right click on your memory card and click "Create". Choose the size you want for External Memory. Remember to leave the amount that you want to use for Internal Memory FREE then click OK.
Next, click on the Unallocated space; click yes to create a new partition. WARNING! – USE EXT2 NOT EXT4!!!. Click OK .
Now click OK then click apply (TOP-LEFT CORNER)
Wait for the action finish.
When finished: disconnect your MicroSD Card and follow step 2 on your phone.
Step 2: Setting Up Your Phone: Link2SD
Now, proceed to configure the EXT2 partition for apps partition (INTERNAL MEMORY) on your phone.
First Install Link2SD on your phone.
Shut down your Phone and put the partitioned MicroSD card in your phone. Now Start your Phone and open "Link2SD", and give Root Permissions. Select ext2, wait while script is created then reboot your phone.
WARNING! – USE EXT2 NOT EXT4!!!
Note: If you have Link2SD already installed, you will need to clear cache and data.
Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>click Link2SD
Select clear CACHE and then select clear DATA.
WARNING! – USE EXT2 NOT EXT4!!!
Select OK AND REBOOT AT THIS POINT.
After rebooting: open Link2SD and go to Settings, and choose these parameters below:
Now, when your install an app, it will automatically be moved to the EXT2 partition. Remember, when you want to install an app and want to have it in your phone memory, uncheck "Auto Link" in Link2SD Settings, then install the Application. Afterwards, recheck "Auto Link". With Link2SD you can install, uninstall, Link and remove links of your apps. You can also do a few other things that are described in the app’s description on the Play Store.

This worked great, I am now able to install many more apps on a T-Mobile concord android phone. I do have a question, even though I am able to install many more apps, I still see the internal memory space getting lower and lower, does that mean that every app I install, it will still require some space in the internal memory? do I always need to move the apps to sd card in order to save internal memory space? is there a way to move all the app into the external space partition? Again thank you so much for putting this information together, I can now use T-Mobile concord phone with many more apps as I used to.

If you partitioned the SD card and inserted it in the phone BEFORE you installed link2SD and followed ALL of the instructions, step by step, then a very small amount of space is stored on the actual internal memory.
FYI - You can uninstall all of the T-Mobile apps. My account, TV, the Samsung account thing, layer?, etc... DO NOT uninstall anything google or Android. E.G GMAIL, CALENDERS, or anything else that you are unsure of.

BTW - My new phone is:
Android version: 2.3.7
Kernel: 2.6.35.7+
Build Number: V768V1.0.0B19
It was already factory when I rooted.
I had to use SUPERSU. SUPERUSER installed and granted permissions but would not update the binary. it would fail on checking to see if superuser worked.
after i partition it can i put it back to normal? if i change phones or whatever
Yes. Just repartition the entire card to fat/fat32 after deleting both partitions, with the mini partition tool.

copy to larger sd card?
I used this method with a 4gb card and it word wonderfully. I now have a 32gb card that I would like to use. How would I go about copying the card. I tried using mini tools to copy partitions but the phone did not work with new sd card. Thanks again for the tutorial on the Tmobile Concord and this one.
thanks!
Is there a possability this also works with Jellybean or does Jellybean uses another app for this ?
TQ BOSS
Partition the card then just copy files like you normally would. There is a chance the concord cannot read a card that big.

Micro SD Card says corrupted after installing Android Marshmallow in my LG G3 D858HK

Hi people. I had installed this ROM (Marshmallow 6.0) in my LG G3 D858HK dual sim. The link to the ROM is http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/lg-g3-d856-7-8-android-marshmallow-t3294053
But after installing the same my MicroSD card says its corrupted and asks to format it. I have formatted it several times and also by PC with a card reader. But still the issue persists. I don't get the option to set up my card as either INTERNAL or PORTABLE storage as it should be in Marshmallow ROMS. It directly starts to format as Portable storage and starts at 20% and shows successfully formatted. But still it shows that the card is corrupted. My card is working fine. I checked it. Please help.
I have the same problem and not yet identified the reason for this. Have you tried other ROMs? For me it is also happening on CM 13 and CandySix.
Answer.
Hope that helps, it worked for me with the same problem and works always....
link is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeU0CxSWR5o
Cheers
I have the same issue with a Samsung 64GB microSD in a LG G3 d851 (T-Mobile USA). The card works fine in Windows and Android Lollipop. However I am testing several Marshmallow ROMs and so far I got this corrupted message in LightDark, Turbo and DU ROMs. However it works fine in Tesla-M. All of them are AOSP Android M ROMs. It seems that there is a problem somewhere but at least Tesla-M tells us that it can be fixed.
Fat32 lads, instead of exFAT format to fat32. The root in MM causes exFAT cards not to be read and stupidly the phone formats it to exFAT. Also the SIM contacts won't appear, instead you have to download an app to copy them from sim to phone.
I'm experiencing something similar.
I am on fulmics 4.2 on a d855. I had no problems for some weeks, than the phone started mounting and unmounting my sdcard, I tried all the suggestions I read online. Like slow formatting (tried all the types of partition), also I tried with the phone format. My best result was the read of the sdcard for just some hours, but then it started auto-expelling it.
I obviously tried with more sdcards and it's not a problem with them. Any suggestions? It's a software problem or an internal hardware problem?
I tried change the kernel a xceed and the sd card is recognized but not funcionally complete,(the radio fm do not work with xceed)

Hi all,
I found out that the same SD card I have since I bought the S5, May 2014, just got corrupted.
It won’t format in the phone, I use the AParted, ES File Explorer, FX Explorer and it never work.
I can still use it in a camera, PC, another Phone and it worked fine!
I put the card back in my PC, reformat in Fat32, ext4, NTFS and each time never worked in the S5.
I did the same thing with a bran new one too, same results.
It starts after updating SuperSU 2.61 to 2.71, in Marshmallow.
Few days’ work fine and then, corrupted.
I tried many options people have here and still the same result, corrupted.
I fix it (I hope) with doing a full factory reset in Marshmallow first.
Got to TWRP and did a full Wipe, Format Data and Adv. Wipe; select everything.
Yes, that clean a lot.
Use Odin and re-flash Marshmallow.
Everything is fine now, but it is only a few days that I did this, so it might still happen.
Could it be the version of SUperSU I took that has something? Or It is actually Marshmallow 6.0.1 with SuperSU ?
We might never know as the version change often.
Hope that will help someone.

Hi all,
Here it is again, my SD card is corrupted again by the OS… but I can access the card by my PC or another phone!
So it seams to be a combination of OS 6.0.1 (Canadian Rogers), how it is rooted (Twrp) and the SuperSU free v2.76.
I’ll wipe the phone again and re-install the original Os from the carrier, no Root & no SuperSU.
I’ll wait for a week and see.
Keep you posted.
Have a great one!

Try this...
Hi All,
I rooted by phone this week also using the KingRoot method and also had the same issue. The below steps resolved it for myself and hopefully for you.
Since this is my first post I can't paste the URL to the site as the forum won't let me, so you'll have to google it, sorry about that.
Google - 32fat guiformat and look for the site 'GUI Format - Ridgecrop Consultants Ltd'
Download the program by clicking on the picture.
Run the program and select the drive letter of your memory card. Set the Allocation unit size to 32768 and untick Quick Format the press Start.
The format process takes maybe 45mins. But afterwards you'll have a full 64GB card formatted as FAT32 and will work in your phone again. Hope this helps you...
Enjoy your day.

If you can verify that more than one card works in a computer but not on the phone, and that formatting the card in the phone goes to 20 % very quickly, while afterwards going to 100 % but still tells you it´s corrupted, then indeed it´s simply the installation of Marshmellow that suddenly no longer wants to work with the file system of the card.
For me, the 32fat guiformat program told me that card was locked by another application, so I did it manually:
In windows elevated command prompt - after backing up eventual data on the card:
diskpart
list disk
(now find out which one is your sdcard, let´s call it x)
select disk x
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
format fs=fat32
When the format is finished, if the cards size is beyond 32 GB, you´ll get a message about that the disk is too big.
At this point I managed though to make a quick format in the before mentioned FAT32 GUI Format program, and bingo - the card is recognized in the phone again.
No need for the diskpart stuff of course, if you already had success with the GUI thingy, just telling in case anyone experiences the same problems as me.
It may be that there´s a way to tell diskpart to use a different cluster size to avoid the error at the end, and also there may be a trick to make the card available to fat32gui. without first going through the diskpart step In my case though, I had the error on two different computers, on which none of them were accessing the card from any applications, disk management, win explorer etc.
Finally I´d like to add that this is not a general error for all Marshmallow phones: My huawei p8 worked fine with the card, also on Marshmallow, before I had to reformat it to fat32.
It´s a pretty sucky bug: Never mind the hassle of formatting the card, as long it works. What bothers me is the 4 GB limit of files in fat32. It´s easy to have a movie nowadays which is larger than that.
PS: Some people recommend using an app called aparted to format the card on the phone, which now has another name. I tried that, but it kept on closing itself, so perhaps it´s not compatible with Marshmallow or the same plus LG G3.

same problem i tried everything aparted, wiping partition from twrp, cmd promt.
maybe busybox
I know this is an old thread but I've recently had this same situation but I found it was a result of installing busybox with Busybox Pro from Stericson. I used the "Smart Install" feature and selected to "Replace all symlinks" and "Clean Mode".
Basically, I believe by doing clean mode and replacing all symlinks, I had replaced needed System applets which somehow had hindered the OS from being able to correctly mount any External SD Card.
After using TWRP to factory reset (Wipe System, Data, Dalvik, Cache, Internal Storage) I Odin Flashed the latest stock firmware and then proceeded to root, etc. BTW, My phone is a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910T on Net10 prepaid network.
Worked for me!!

Did you ever find out a resolution to this? I'm having the same problem -- card works in computer and other devices, but not tablet which was rooted (twrp) with supersu installed. In fact, no sdcard will work now in that tablet, formatted using gui formatter mentioned earlier or not.

Hi all,
Here it is again, my SD card is corrupted again by the OS… but I can access the card by my PC or another phone!

Understanding Marshmallow before installing

Hi guys, I have been on Lollipop for very long. Marshmallow is here but i have doubts before installing Marshmallow. I have setup my friend's phone after upgrading to Marshmallow. There is an option at the beginning to choose to setup SD Card. Use as a portable storage or Use as internal storage. I chose Use as a portable storage and it is working fine but while trying to download something it does not work. For example, tried to download facebook picture but got some error. While using it as internal storage, it will format data first (which could be backed up). If i use it as internal storage and phone has issues and needs to be formatted without backup, i will loose all the data. Suggest me something guys.

I think it might be a bad flash. What ROM are you using? Nameless or OMNI?

I'm talking about the download problem. Cuz, I can download just fine on marshmallow ROMs, even after choosing the first option.

have you checked the permissions for the app? Should enable access to "storage".

Adoptable Storage Mod

Developer Modaco has posted a MOD for the S7 and Edge to adopt the SD. I thought I would pass this along. Instructions in the link below.
http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
This doesn't seem to be working properly on the US version.
I tried it and while all the commands went through successfully, I do not see an increase in internal storage nor does apps or files transferred end up on the SD card.
The ability to access the SD card from file manager and through a PC has disappeared like it should but the phone does not recognize the SD card as another part of its internal memory nor is it being used.

It worked fine for me. I had to then go to settings storage and select the second internal thing and select merge from the hamburger menu
I tried that as well. I factory reset to see if it was because I had a bunch of apps installed.
I finally got the internal storage to increase. I'm going to fill up my internal storage first to see if i get warnings and insufficient space or if it will start filling the SD card instead.
From what I heard, adoptable storage is supposed to fill the largest capacity memory first (ie: SD Card) and then internal storage. Seems to be doing the opposite.
I've been using this mod for a about a week now, and I love not having to grant storage permissions to the SD card and the ability to delete photos from the Google Photos app (and not having to delete it from the gallery app as well).
The only issues I am seeing are with two camera features
1. Burst shots do not work
2. Photos can not be saved as RAW
These are livable flaws in my opinion. Let's hope Samsung properly enables this feature in the Nougat update.
Do you have to be rooted for this method to work? I just exchanged my Note 7 for the S7 Edge and would like to apply this mod to increase the internal storage.
No, root is not required.

Yes. I updated to the Nouget Beta and it stayed.
Can you test and see if burst shots in the camera works? It didn't for me when I used this mod on MM

Re: SD Card Into Internal Memory

Re: SD Card Into Internal Memory
Hi guys
Can you let me know how to make the SD card part of the internal memory. The A5 2017 is a good phone but the problem is the limitation in the internal memory and seriously i'm not willing to change the phone just because it lacks space. So, if someone knows how to make the SD card part of the internal memory, please do share. Since I'm quite new, if there's a need to root the phone or whatever, please send the instructions also. Much appreciated.

As I know, on stock you can't do this, but on android8.1 unofficial ROMs yiu can do that.
if you want to use more app in your phone, can use "link2sd" app. it links app 2 sd
else you can use custom rom to combine sd memory and phone but in this case you cant use sd card out of your phone because other devices cant detect that.

it's saying link2sd could not obtain root access.
if you have root access make sure you respond "allow" or grant to the superuser request.
how to sort that out?
