Possible use on Verizon LTE network at full speed? - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

Thinking about this as my next possible upgrade, been with a Note 3 for about 3ish 4 years it feels like. After the bootloader got unlocked I had few reasons to upgrade. Now however the hardware is getting dated and this looks like a viable upgrade. Would this phone work on Verizon's LTE network at full speeds, I am assuming there will eventually be a CyanogenMod released for this and then all I would need to do is unlock it?

Don't count on it

It's sadly not that simple from looking into it for the Mi5... However if they make great progress with the Mi5 there could be hope for this device as well since the 820 and 821 have few differences (or none? just an OC?).
The Mi5 is able to make calls and text at the moment but the LTE is still a bit unstable. If this looks like it will get enough support I might choose it over the Pixel XL. And if it works on Verizon since I still have my unlimited data plan.

I'd like to see B2, B4 and B12 LTE bands unlockable. I'm guessing monitoring progress on the mi5 is the right move since they have similar hardware profile.
Hopefully the chip can support the bands, otherwise it's another great phone that wont see it's potential in the us/eu market.

US Carrier versions & advice?-Samsung confirms October 24th event

Remember when AT&T chose to only carry the 16GB version of the S3, will US Carrier version availability of Note 2 be different?
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/10/samsung-confirms-october-24th-event-is-for-the-us-galaxy-note-ii/
I'm leaning toward 64GB Grey & can go to any carrier.. Verizon has LTE in my metro NY area but would fall back to 3G where it doesn't have LTE coverage while AT&T has LTE about 15 minutes away but usually only falls back to HSPA+ that is way faster than 3G not to mention would be ~$10/mo less (yet I'm on FIOS 75/35 Wi-Fi or other fast Wi-Fi most of the time anyway) so not sure which carrier to go with, advice on carrier options? -Thnx
Still have the EVO 4G on Sprint which does not have LTE yet in the area & its 3G is slow so the unlimited data differentiator is not too compelling as I'm mostly on Wi-Fi & when I'm not would rather not deal with slow 3G, prefer minimum HSPA+ speeds..

AT&T Note 2 will most likely be unlocked while the Verizon version will most likely be locked. Seeing as you are on the XDA forums and you have fast wifi most of the time I would recommend the AT&T version. Being unlocked will allow you to run custom kernels and ROMs which allow you the ability to tweak your operating system and squeeze extra performance out of your device. AT&T recently added LTE in my city so that made it an easy choice for me along with all the benefits you mentioned of AT&T.
I would also like to get a 64GB model however I think its unlikely that will be released in the near future. Typically the higher GB models are released later.

Verizon & Sprint will likely carry at least 32GB versions, AT&T better not only offer the 16GB again..
Ideally I want Samsung Galaxy Note 2 128GB (64GB Marble White + 64GB MicroSDXC) on day1

[Q] Current M8 user, considering switch from Verizon to T-Mobile.

Hey All
Current Verizon M8 (rooted to GPE) user and I'm considering jumping to T-Mobile. I've loved the M8 and would intend on going with that device again if we make the switch. Planning on doing a Test Drive to get a feel of the network coverage in my area (Morris County, NJ).
Should all go well with that test, anything I should take into consideration with the T-Mobile version of the M8? Anything to be concerned with (rooting again, network radio capabilities, features, etc.)? Any past experiences of others switching to make note of?
Edit: Also, any success with using a Verizon M8 on the T-Mobile network? I'm savvy enough to make root-based mods if necessary. Wouldn't mind buying out the rest of my Verizon EDGE value on the phone to keep what I have.
Thanks for any input!
I also made the switch to t mobile from verizon. My first and only phone I have owned is the HTC Oe m8. The phone staright from TMobile came full of bloatware. 10+ apps of non sense. Coming from ios i had never rooted or unlocked a bootloader. I have to say it was super easy. TMobile does take awhile to realease updates but converting over to developer edition can take care of all that.

Tmobile updates faster than Version and att.[emoji1]
HTC One M8 from T-Mobile here. I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile a while back and was disappointed at first but T-Mobile is definitely upping their game and recently I haven't even looked back. The benefits to T-Mobile over Verizon? Much faster updates. Most devices are less locked down. Uses GSM version of the M8 (I don't believe the Verizon version is compatible but T-Mobile has a neat little monthly payment program that makes getting new phones feel easier) Did I mention the GSM M8 has a LOT more roms and support than the Verizon version? Oh, and you can get truly unlimited data without losing your ability to upgrade. And they don't throttle your data speeds like Verizon seems to do. In many areas T-Mobile has much faster 4G LTE speeds than Verizon.
But that's just everything I can tell you off the top of my head. For many devices, T-Mobile is the first to update their carrier branded devices and, in my opinion, the bloatware was never a big deal. Even found myself using most of what was provided.
At this point, I'd probably wait till the m9 if possible. If you can't, as much as I love my One, the G3 or Moto X would probably get my money on t-mobile. the M8 not having band 2 lte is a major annoyance for me.

Yeah, might as well wait. I like Hima plus 5.5". I just hope when we get lollipop update will have volte.
I would only switch if you live near a major city. Since your Verizon phone will only work on Verizon bands. T-mobile has different bands. I have a Verizon m8 and am on T-Mobile. Luckily I live within 5miles of Philadelphia,PA. I also enabled bands that are locked that can be found out how to do in the Verizon forum. I have excellent reception, lte data, and WiFi calling. But I can say from past users on forums, that the reception can be dreadful if you don't live near a major city due to the band frequencies.
We have lollipop, bad thing is no volte, @at&t probably get their updates next year.lol!!!

Unlocked 10 on T-Mobile US Band 12 Issues

I am having an issue with my Unlocked 10 I am not sure how to fix, or if there is a fix at the moment.
The phone works flawlessly and I love it, however, for some reason, regardless of the signal it wants to prioritize Band 4 over Band 12. I can use the LTE Discovery app to temporarily get it to 12 (in which the overall speeds work better the places I use the phone) but it shortly after goes back to Band 4. So needless to say it becomes an annoyance having to reset it from the App each time I want to be on 12.
Is there any possible thing I could to do fix this?
Its rather odd that you're getting better speeds on Band 12. Band 12 is a 5MHz sliver that is really just meant to patch holes in T-Mobile's coverage. I've never found it faster than Band 4 and I'm in a market that has 15MHz of Band 4 that isn't contiguous (so one 10MHz and one 5MHz) which means it needs carrier aggregation to even use them both.
That's one thing that I don't like about HTC phones compared to Samsung phones. Samsung phones give you complete control over the radio, including LTE band preference built in. As far as I'm aware, HTC has not implemented this ever while Samsung has had it at least since the Captivate (first Samsung device I owned). You're basically at the mercy of HTC's RIL.
Once an HTC RUU becomes available for T-Mobile, you could S-OFF and flash the T-Mobile RUU. Its quite possible that Band 12 is not optimized on the unlocked version.

On Verizon, will it work and any links for this specific version?

Hi guys. I've been a member of XDA for some time through many phones rooting, ROMing, etc., and customizing many phones. But I haven't done anything for awhile, still rocking the Note 4, and am by far no expert. I am really looking to get my hands on the Xiaomi Mi Max 4GB 128GB dark grey version. I've never bought a phone that wasn't compatible or made for my carrier, so I need some help.
1. Does anyone know if they will get these back in stock, or am I stuck purchasing a gold one?
2. I am on Verizon. From my understanding, it will work except LTE. Do you still get 4G but not LTE? Is it a huge deal really? Can you still stream on Netflix etc, without a huge lag? I've read from some users online it wasn't a huge difference.
3. Which version do I look for, International?
4. Would it work better on AT&T? Because I am willing to switch for the phone I want. If it's the same as Verizon, no LTE, then I'll just stay with Verizon.
Thanks for any help guys. I really want this phone. I was disappointed the Note 7 is still so small. The Note 4 easily fits in my pockets, so I can't see why they won't go bigger with all the use of media and internet these days. I know some people wear skinny jeans and already have an issue with the size, but that's why they have other options like the S7.
Also looking into the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra. Will that work any better on a US network?
I'll pay you $1,000,000 if you can get Verizon to activate this phone on their network. They would never let you use any of these phones on their network.

I thought you could use it if you put in the APN and stuff, but just not get the LTE? I guess not?

They block it from accessing their network. They limit what's allowed to run on their network. I even tried my friends Verizon sim in my Mediapad X2 and Mate 8 and nope, if it's not in their whitelist it won't work. That's one of the main reasons I left Verizon a while back.
Ok, few important things to share with you.
Consider the 32gb, 3 gig ram version because it has the most development, global ROM, and possibly lower cost. I'm seduced by bigger specs models but frustrated to no end by lack of global ROM, I've got the 64 gig.
Secondly I ditched Verizon for this very reason. Lack of open network and hassles getting devices to work.
Thirdly, look at network coverage in your area, pick the better of AT&T or T-Mobile. I've gone with T-Mobile and not looked back. Speeds are good enough at H+.
Finally, Lenovo Phab Tango device with US LTE bands is about to hit the market, so research that also. ?

THANK YOU so much!!! That was awesome information. Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, seems to be the only fairly current phone over 6.3" fully compatible in the US right? I've had so many cell phones over the last 15+ years, more than 15. I've never cracked a screen. But with having such a larger screen, it concerns me a little I have not seen anything about it being Gorilla glass. Other than that I'm sold. Not that there are many choices in that size compatible in the US, but it has pretty good specs overall. I only wish for a little bigger battery and Gorilla glass. But you sold me sir. I'll be waiting for this. Guess I'll be switching to AT&T soon. Thanks!
I have the data and sms/mms working on Verizon currently. Did all the troubleshooting with them and on my own. Not your typical customer, 32 years in technology network engineering. Been fighting with them to have it added to their system. Finally someone submitted the form for me waiting to see. As for now I have my Verizon number forwarded to my Google Voice.

note 10 plus 5G for tmobile

Anyone know if tmobile will get the 5g? I really see it as an upgrade from the note 9 if im getting 5G.
Or will the Verizon 5g model work with tmobile future 5G bands?
I believe 5G models for the other carriers will trickle out later this year or early next year. By the time T-Mobile builds out their 5G network to the point I need a 5G phone, I'll be on the N11 or N12. I wouldn't worry about it.
All the other big 3 carriers will get them. Verizon have a 3month exclusive on the 5G handset.
Qualcom is working on newer 5G modem, due to come out in the next few months, maybe it will find it's way into non VZW Notes. Personally I don't care, I'm on 200Mbs Wifi most of the time, which is fast enough for everything I do and otherwise I usually get 50-100 Mbs LTE signal, which is fast enough even to stream 4k video. At least in my experience most of the time limiting factor in download speeds is originating server, not the network speed, so 5G may not make as much difference as some hope. Also, once the 5G networks get expanded and many people start using it, they better upgrade infrastructure beyond 5G network, like servers and interconnects, because any network is as fast as it's slowest part.
