Sweet, but anyone know the difference between the 8996 and 8996 pro CPU roms?
Can either rom be used or do you need a specific device?

Sweet, thanks...
Glad I asked as I REALLY don't wanna kill my SD821...

They should have made the 821 available for both variants

I agree but I think they probably pushed out what they had at the time...
It was a large amount of waiting for this device, around 6 months from showcase to release....
The person I bought my phone off said it was because ASUS had some supply problems back in August/September., though that could've just been to fob me off too....
Though saying that I really had to pick and choose. Over here in Oz the Zenfone 2 was ever really released, not in stores or through the telco's so this awesome phone won't even get a 2 second blurb in any of the media again... So much for local warranty.....

[GENERAL HELP] Post Your Questions Here Instead of Making a New Thread

Many people are joining xda on daily basis. Some of them join the forum to get custom ROMs while some join in order to get some of their problem that they are facing with their phones solved.
There are dedicated threads for ROMs but what about HELP/QUESTIONS??
People generally straight away start a new thread to get their doubts solved. But this can lead to chaos in the forum.
I'm creating this thread as an alternative to *New Threads* that aim to resolve a question.
Not only this, this thread can also become a Database kind of place where people can look if their question is already solved or not...
I request all members of the ASUS ZENFONE 2 sub-forum to help and answer some questions posted here if they can.
I hope you guys get the idea behind this thread...

From where you got the info about the prices? Or is just a guess? I also think that the high specs version would have the price of 299.
Anyone knows how are these processors with the battery life.?

Camera Details On lower end version. is unknown
To my understanding atom processors are nowhere near the performance of current generation ARM.. Has anything changed? Is this cpu comparable to anything released in the last year?

Benchmarks report the higher end one in zenphone 2 is comparable to snap Dragon 805. Not sure about battery efficiency.
In terms of real world performance, the Intel CPUs are very satisfying. I have a very old CloverTrail CPU in my Venue 8 tablet, and it feels just as snappy as the Snapdragon 800 in my phone, even though the 800 blows it away in benchmarks.
The big question is how is the ROM and dev support going to be for this phone.

That's good to hear! I'm excited about this phone assuming 1) unlocked bootloader + source release and 2) Dev support
So since I am new here and found this thread I had to ask..
I am intrigued by the Zenfone 2 but I like the Oneplus One as well..
I am an iOS user (got really tired of it.. ) and I am going to switch to Android.
The advice I've been given is to search if there are going to be custom ROMs and support before buying a phone!
Is there a reason to wait for the Zenfone 2 over the Oneplus One?
(Planning on using a custom ROM so it will have "pure" android (propably CM, dunno still searching) )
Thnx in advance
Considering the specs on the ZenFone 2 are basically the same as all these 7-10" Windows tablets, how long before you think before we see full Windows 8.1/10 on the ZenFone 2?

Having owned the OnePlus One and a Note 3 with CM11, they are both very nice. I have a good feeling about the ZenFone 2 though. More "open" hardware. You may also look at the Lenovo P90 (much bigger battery). The #1 advantage of the ZF2 or the P90 is that they both run 64bit processors, so they are ready for 64bit Android.
Is the Zenfone2 gonna work on Verizon Network?

With the 720p model, it'll be a 5 inch phone, right?
Go for ASUS you wont regret it!
If the price is acceptable, this one definitely will be a hot item.Asus is very committed in costumer satisfaction.their is extremely fast in software upgrading. Asus strategies in marketing have fortunes both side.for example, after zenfone 5 Lte out with kitkat ,month later(l believed its take a month just because its had a different cpu vendor) all previous Zenfone series also received same upgrading and all leftover stock in market becomes high demanded until need to refill. Now zenfone 5 is conquer over 4 Asean country and the funny things is I,the early owner of zenfone 5 still use jb because its alredy bugless in last jb version(finally usb OTG support) .In my country, zenfone 5 is one of hot items and now I'm very proud to shows off my fone to my friends cause its so popular. Now zenfone its definitely on theirs list.Thank you Asus for my dignity
WHAT about GPL compliance of ASUS.... was there any word about device tree and source code???
how did xda opened a thread for zenfone 2????
Hello everyone
I intend to buy a new phone but with dual card. I wanted to buy Xiaomi MI Note, but the cost is huge so I gave up. I stumbled upon a phone AusuZenfon2. As I watched some clips on YT seems that his camera much good. In Xioamia Mi Note camera is even better than the iPhone 6 Plus. I hope and Zenfonu 2 will be good camera.
What interests me is:
1. How satisfied are you with you thus far zenfonom users in general?
2. Procesor which is located in the Zenfone2 (64-bit Intel Atom 3560/3580 Quad Core Processor (Running at 1.8 / 2.3GHz) PowerVR Series 6 - G6430, with OpenGL 3.0 support), so I interesujeu which rank this processor in compared to the Snapdragon family? 800, 801 or maybe 805?
3. Does really feature HDR blacklight gives such good pictures in low light or is just marketing trick?
4. Will it will be 4K recording and slowmotion 240fps in zenfonu 2?
5. Zenfone 2 will have two models, one of 2GB and the other 4GB Ram. Is the difference only in RAM or a even a change?
Advance very grateful
PS I see the comments someone goes dead motherboard. How is this happening? And if this is a common problem with this phone?
P.S2 .. I looked at photos Zenfon 5 :crying:and unfortunately photos are bad phone that I now have a Xioami Mi3 and captures a lot of good pictures. Will Zenfone 2 have a better camera than Zenfona 5?

Unfortunately not. Verizon works on CDMA network which is not supported by Zenfone 2 and is not supported by a lot of other phones. Verizon also uses LTE network and it is currently the broader LTE network in the USA. You can check the coverage here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/. The Verizon LTE network bands will be supported by some models of Zenfone 2. You could theoretically use Zenfone 2 on Verizon, but then you have to use voip instead of standard calling and depend fully on the LTE in general.

Nobody uses the Zenfone 2 because it's not on the market yet. I have Asus tablet based on (an older) Intel SoC and I'll try to answer to your questions on the base of that experience:
1. I'm really satisfied with the tablet. It is fast, stable and modest in energy consumption.
2. Intel 3580 is generally considered better SoC than any of Snapdragons you mentioned and has better Antutu Results. Besides only the newest of Snapdragons 805 (and 810) is 64-bit, but both are 28nm, so they are likely less energy efficiently than Intel Atom 3560/3580, which are 22nm thick.
3. It's not a market trick. You can get live tests of camera performance.
4. yes.
5. It's not known yet, but I assume that Asus plans to offer entry level model with Intel 3560, 2GB RAM and lower resolution and high end with Intel 3580, 4GB RAM and higher resolution. Starting price for the first model is supposed to be $199 and for the second one $299. Additional ROM will probably increase the price. And there are still modifications which are not sorted out yet regarding LTE antennas regarding selling territory and 5 inch model which is currently still a big mystery.

Thinking about buying a Zenfone 2, worth it?

Guys I wanna know how are the custom roms and how the phone works. I have a S3 with an Exynos CPU and devs have a hardtime to make AOSP roms to my phone. Does this happens on Zenphone 2?
Ditto Im on N7100, Im seeing x86 as potential to exynos, except if the source is leaked to developer someday developer will stopped updating or facing problems when Asus stop updating their flagship arround 2016
Im considering it with Redmi Note 2 Prime... it has Octacore but lack of NFC and only 2G ram
I might still happy with my N7100 (the also canceled Lollipop yeah,,, rite done with samsung, no need waste money for flagship anymore or buy Iphone if you want flagship) untill Prime arrives in my country or ZE551ML fix the battery issue, then Ill upgrade to one of them
above 1.8Ghz processor eats battery like a pro without good software
Btw this is general section I dunno if this question can be here or not
I'm currently running a 5.1.1 AOSP ROM, with the developer looking at 6.0. The ROM runs flawlessly; this phone really shines with lightweight Android on it.

Great
I have played around with all the custom roms on here - they all work great but when news of ASUS working on 6.0 came out I went back to stock so I would be ready for it. Just do yourself a favor and get it from ASUS. Too many people on here have found out the hard way they overpayed for a CN model with WW firmware flashed on it. Get the right model and you will love it for a long time

I got the ze551ml - 4gb/64gb version. The problem people have been having is going to ebay or amazon or some dinky shop hoping to save a few bucks and wind up with a chinese phone with the global software flashed on it. The chinese model has lte bands that are not used in places like the United States and Canada. Just get it from asus on their website. They will ensure you get the right phone for your area.

So ZE551ML is good?
yup, it's good. the 32gb/4 gb versión is the Chinese version, you would have to flash the ww rom to get gapps. also I think it doesn't have some of the lte bands used on the states. go for the 64/4, 16/4 or 16/2 that sell on amazon at 299,229 and 199 respectively, they are all the 551 ML
Sent from my ASUS_Z008D using Tapatalk
Be aware of te limitations though (talking about ZE551ML/ZE550ML). Sim2 is only 2G and has no data support. Check the LTE band support of the version you get. CN, TW and WW have different LTE support.
All other ZenFone 2 variants that are not x86 (any other than ZE551ML/ZE550ML) may have poor third party dev support, and probably less attention from ASUS too going forward, as the x86 version is the flagship.
So guys, should I buy it or not? I don't wanna make another mistake like I did with the S3 on which I didn't have custom roms of AOSP with quality
Considering between Zenfone 2 and Moto G 2015 tho...
I switched from the S5 and couldn't be happier. Best phone switch I have ever done. If you do go with the Zenfone 2 I would recommend the 4gig version, it is well worth it
While I haven't used any CM or AOSP based ROM, some people say it's good for everyday use. I like the stock ROM, I only use a custom kernel (project T) and have the phone rooted and with TWRP. There are also some stock based ROMs, mostly to remove bloat.
The only advantage of getting the Moto G would be better battery life, but in everything else the ZF2 leaves it in the dust.

Should i buy a Pixel XL Marlin for custom roms ?

the question is in the title ^^, for precision, i would say that, since i have a phone, i use custom roms, the last i had was the samsung galaxy s5, the thing is that, custom roms have recurrent bugs on this device, we had to wait a long time to get a "stable" oreo rom on it, for example, camera and fingerprint were not working for a moment..
so i want to know if roms are stable and smooth on this phone, thanks

Reason I don't recommend you to jump on the Pixel is not much development is going on, The Device will be EOL on P so Major updates will stop some of the newer budget devices will still have that 2 years OS support and much more custom roms that you're after I think it'll be a better buy, Pixel XL isn't a bad buy by any means just I think better value for your situation is to be had on other devices
Which bands do you need? If you buy from official Xiaomi French store should have your bands but check before buying anything

Xiaomi Note 5 (Global) == Note 5 Pro == Whyred?

Currently I've got a Note 4 MTK, for which not a lot of ROM's are available due to MediaTek being annoying. I didn't check carefully when buying it, I saw a lot of ROM's for the Note 4, but that was for the QC version.
Looking to upgrade, and planning to buy from Goldway on AX again, they offer this version.
It is a Snapdragon 636 so that all looks good? And, they say it's already unlocked, which looks great to me.
So it would allow me to install LineageOS straightaway, correct?
I saw this topic as well, but that was about a 3GB version.
Just want to triple check, don't want to make the same mistake again.

Question Asus rog 6 pro or 6D.

So I don't know which one to choose. The rog phone with snapdragon 8+gen1 or the 6D with dimensity 9000. Some people say the dimmensity is better. Some say the snapdragon is better. Wich one should I choose? Is there a big difference between the 2? The one with the snapdragon would be easier to buy in my zone than the 6D.
I would take the 6pro, the sd 8+gen1 has a bit more gpu power, but the other one is a bit better in terms of cpu performance
none, wait for the SD8 gen2 refresh that will die on you after 1 year.
What do you mean? So i. Am interested to upgrade from an rog 3. Is there screwed up issues or ur just saying it?
important info if some on planning to get 6D it has LDDR5X ram
however the tencent version has LDDR5 without X
i got the tencent version and 100% sure about this info

Get ROG 5 at a good price and skip 6. It has inferior speakers too apparently. ROG 3 is an excellent device, I still have mine and use it sometimes.
