My SD card became corrupted last night with IO errors. Lucky me I took the pictures I could off of the thing, I put a new SD card in and let it DL my music overnight. I wake up and it was off. I've gotten to the homescreen, but after a few seconds it freezes, That's the farthest i've gotten. Every other time it freezes at the LG logo and refuses to turn on. I find most success when I take out the SD card. That's the only other time I got to the homescreen.
I'm on a VS986 G4. I'm not sure if it's water damage from something as small as rain or whatever.
I had my G4 out in the rain with a protective case before this happened. It wasn't too wet but he most it hit was the screen. Things started acting up when I charged it.
In fact, I checked the water damage x thing. Nothing is bleeding, so it's probably a bootloop.
Seems like your case is not the famous hardware defect bootloop but some other damage. It may be damage due to the moisture of the rain. Basically there is a rule when your device get wet by accident you must let it dry completely before you plug into. If there is still moisture trapped inside and you plug it then you can damage it permanently. You can try let it completely dry out and retry. If the device is still malfunctioning you have to take it for repairs.

There is no way anyone can tell you if this is the hardware defect issue or not in a forum. You described some other issues as well in your post. It may be the hardware defect and it may not. It may be another damage. If you are inside warranty send it for repairs immediately. There is no other way to know what's the culprit.

alright so i was driving, someone cut me off, my tilt2 fell off the center console into a cup of soda.
when i pulled it out i had the screen with the red, blue, green, yellow or whatever.
so i updated my driver on my computer cause im using vista, then i did a hard spl flash to put it back to the stock version. i left it plugged into my computer with it on the att world phone screen and it stays on that for about 10 minutes and then finally starts up, everything comes up fine including my previously loaded background but i get the apparently popular microp wrong version 0 message saying it needs to be updated. btw once it loads everything has extreme lag. i keep seeing that its a hardware problem but some people seem to fix it doing another hard spl flash (which ive tried and didnt work). now if it is a hardware issue, usually its from people dropping their phone on the ground hard or whatever, but would it be that from falling 8" into a drink (also heard htc makes their stuff waterproof???)
bottom line is the phone is still under warranty, but under my friends name who i bought it off of, do you think ill still be able to get it repaired under warranty or am i just screwed and have to buy another phone? or does someone have a solution to this problem?
Waterproof? Not even close! Whoever told you that is dead wrong. I think Motorola has a new phone that is very moisture resistant, that you can submerge it. But that phone is very unique in that regard. Cell phones are not typically waterproof, or even water resistant in any way. Dropping the phone in soda is absolutely the cause of your issue, and its a hardware problem.
Warranty will do you no good, unless your friend paid extra for the type of insurance that covers damage that you caused. There are moisture sensing stickers inside the phone (change color when they come into contact with moisture). Warranty service will know from these that you have water damage (in addition to soda being inside the phone!). They will charge you for the repair or a new phone.
Your best bet is to turn off the phone, take the battery out, and dry the phone out as much as possible. Some people put their moisture exposed phones in a plastic bag with rice, which is supposed to help dry it. Or put in a warm place (some say on top of the refrigerator). Dry it out for a few days, then try to power up again. Since you dropped it in soda, it may be a goner, since there is other gunk inside your phone now besides just water.

I might have the first defy dead from water damage from what I can find. My defy recently underwent repair for an earpiece problem, where they replaced the entire motherboard, but not the front panel, which was what they did the first time. my defy took a light, probably 10 second dip into a pool, but it ended up taking in alot of moisture from what I can tell.
I removed the battery. I tried shaking out as much water as I could, with a sort of rapid pendulum motion. The water marker on the back of the phone was and still is white. when attempting to boot the phone up (I know, my mistake), I could see water/moisture behind the glass. I removed the battery again and let it sit in some rice in a sealed ziplock bag. Moisture looked gone. The phone just booted to the M logo, and the indicator leds turned on. After a while the screen went black and I think it displayed a red led. I tried lightly blow drying it on low heat to maybe try get more moisture out and then put it back in the bag.
Now, im wondering if my defy is dead. After the quick dip in the pool, the phone still worked and showed no signs of water damage. just dried it off, and stuck it down on a table. When I came back, the phone was off. I thought nothing much of it, and tried rebooting it. this was the first time I saw the phone display the motorola as well as a bunch of leds. After my first drying attempt, it booted back up normal and the phone was functioning 100%, but i still saw moisture behind the screen, so i took the battery out.
Im not sure if my defy is salvageable. the moisture indicator is still white, but im sure there are other signs of moisture inside the phone if I tried sending it off for repair. Im going to try leave it in rice for another day or two, try to get it booted then. If not, I might have the first water damaged defy
Wait for some days or else open up the screws if you are confident with it and dont damage anything just explore something and u will find it out...........BE CONFIDENT

If your warranty is ok.then go to moto service center or wait for some days till it gets dried...........Water in your screen wont dry up until u clean

I just purchased a GSM Galaxy Nexus From Google last monday. Got it on wednesday the first thing i did was put a screen Protector on it before booting the phone up.(ArmorSuit MilitaryShield) The phone work great on Thursday no issues what so ever. Then i Friday i went to the gym. Kept the thing in my pocket and wiped my hands before touching anything on the phone. (Waiting for otterbox to arrive)
I as soon as i get out i notice Condensation in the front camera. I soon as i received a text my phone hung up and reboot itself. After loading again to the home screen it hung up again as soon as text pop up again. I after 8 tries i final was frustrated. Took the SIM card out and swipe to the right with my finger to try to see if i could unlock it to the home screen.
I was finally able to get into the phone and turn on airplane mode before it hung up again. After i did that i Sut down phone and put the SIM card back in. Repeated the the same steps. As i turn airplane mode off the phone hung up again! (Seems everyone in the mother had to text me at that moment) I was able to make two phone call's before it lock up, but i couldn't hear them and they couldn't hear me. Called 611 then i was able to hear at&t computer but sound like the speaker was dieing. Then the phone lock up and reboot itself.
So i go into the boot loader. The phone was functioning perfected in the boot loader. Play with it for about 10mins. No hangs up. I found that weird. So i reboot the phone was able to get myself into the Factory reset. After that i did a hard factory reset.
So i call Google and they sent me over to Samsung. Samsung wants to do a replacement. I don't mind doing that i just don't like the fact they need a CC number just in case they have to Charge if the phone was abuseded which it wasn't. Baby the hell out of it. They asking me if the phone came into any touch with liquid. The the only thing i could think of was the solution the screen Protector Company sent. I didn't spray the solution directly on the phone but the direction told me to spray couple of sprays on the side of the SP that was going on the screen. (2 Sprays).
The Samsung rep told me the systoms don't sound like water damage. So after getting off the phone (About 1 hr) i notice the condensation was disappearing from the lens. So i took a quick blow dryer to it for about 30 secs. Turn the phone back on and everything been rock solid (Expect for wifi cutting in and out for some reason) for about 2 days.
So tomorrow Samsung fiance department will be calling me for my CC info. My question do you think i should send it in ? Do you think they will find water damage? Was this water damage ? Does the GSM galaxy nexus have Water Sticker ? I'm not able to find one. (Every where i googled no one had a direct answer)
I'm not trying to rip Samsung off i just don't want this to happen down the road again. If it was water damage ill just deal with it i guess.
I wonder if i don't open the new phone tey send me and just use my old 3gs in till i hear back from them... will i be able to send the Replacement phone back if it was water damage ? Just pay the shipping costs? First time dealing with something like this

Look at the water contact indicator under the battery and see if it is red. A wet apply screen protector should not have caused this, but be careful to not let water get in the speaker and crevices when applying. In the future if your phone does come in contact with water or condensation remove the battery and sim Immediately and place in dry rice for 24 hours, do not try to power it on. Many others are reporting wifi instability, check the threads for solutions.

Do you think Samsung will find anything ? Sorry for all the questions. The lens on the front camera was white. Is there stickers inside the phone where the CPU is
I heard there was like 3 water indicators in the phone.
That I couldn't tell you, I've never taken the phone apart so I would only be guessing. You might could find out by looking for a "tear down" of the phone, there should be several online if you do a Google search. Is the phone continuing to function well for you? Besides the wifi?
Yeah its been running great. Just got off the phone with Samsung. I think i just keep this phone. I don't want to pay for repair cost's. If the phone dies in month then i guess it was water damage. I hope there's no corrosion on PCB. I would love to take it apart but i don't want to void the warranty to check. Is there warranty Sticker in there ?
The wifi thing might be my fault. My laptop does that sometimes too. I'm just freaking out. I love the phone. I don't want it too die. Just ran a CPU stability test for about 15mins. No errors the battery was at 42c temp. Went ahead and sut the phone down. Going to wait 15 mins then turn it back on.

Had an account here before but forgot my password and no longer have the email . Anyway, my phone got damp while out on a cycle ride last night. At first the screen was working and then it started to appear slightly green and had horizontal lines across it. Now the screen is completely blank. I left it in a bag of rice all night but no luck.
Just taken the back off again and had a look. In the very top left of the phone 2 of the pieces of solder on the back of the screen seem to have just fallen away after being wet. Is there any hope of repairing this, or do I need a new screen piece? If so where would I get one?
Also, it is still under warranty with my contract provider, I don't suppose they would repair it without figuring out it got wet?

It's unlikely you'll be able to repair it under warranty as there are indicator stickers that change colour when they get wet, and technicians check them upon admission into warranty. To be honest, if you've left it in rice and it still hasn't fixed itself, you're SOL. It's hard to tell where the damage occurred and it may be the screen or the actual logic board. You COULD give repair a try (DIY or non-warranty repair) though it may be pointless as it might not be your screen that's actually broken and/or other parts may be broken as well.

Does the fact that it still essentially works (sound, touchscreen, vibrate, I can still blindly click on apps etc.) spell hope that it's only the screen that works? Might give it to someone who has some electrical skills to see if they can repair it... If that fails I don't wanna drop £130 on a new screen only to find that something else is broken!
EDIT: Also, when connected via USB the whole filesystem is intact.
I took my oneplus 3 for a brief swim. I blame new fatherhood. It inhaled a lot of water. I turned it off, dried it, and put it in rice for a couple days. Soon after turning it off, it started getting hot. I'm guessing something important is dead. I'd like to go through the process of fixing it. I have to replace the rear camera which stopped focusing anyway.
Here's where I'm at now.
1. The battery charges.
2. The screen works.
3. It boots up in developer mode or whatever the volume button down + power is.
4. Phone won't boot into OS.
My plan from this point forward:
1. Open up phone and inspect.
2. Clean components.
3. Test with pc and go through unbrick guide.
4. Order and replace broken parts.
Questions:
1. Is there a diagnostic I could run to figure out what is broken?
2. If I'm replacing something major, would it be fairly straightforward and worth the effort to replace the internal components with 3T components?
3. Anything else I should keep in mind or any thoughts on what is likely wrong with the phone?
I guess by letting it dry and then turn it on again you killed something in your phone.
Water has always a bit salt and minerals in it and once the phone these minerals are still left and can cause various short circuits.
I know its too late now, but what you should have done is turning the phone down after the accident and then wash it out with destilled water to wash out the minerals and after that let it dry.
For example blackboxes of crashed planes are left in a box with salty water and then it gets replaced more and more with destilled water.
I'd recommend you to visit a phone fixing shop. Finding the problem by yourself will be pretty tricky without the right tools.

Thanks. That makes sense. My suspicion is still that the damage occurred prior to turning the phone off, as the off phone kept heating up as if something was causing a massive battery drain. This will be helpful next time. Ugh, next time. There better not be a next time.
As I've yet to start taking the phone apart, I'm still pretty determined to troubleshoot it myself as much as I can. So any other suggestions people have would be appreciated. I've been quite unimpressed with the techs around here...
