Bootloader unlockable? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

With the new direction google seems to be going, does anyone know for sure that this phone wont be locked down? I know it sounds absurd, but this is not a nexus....any insight

Seems like if you buy the Pixel from Google you will be able to unlock. Through VZW... no. That sucker will be locked down.

It was on a live stream on CNET where i heard that too. All bootloaders except Verizon`s are unlocked appearently.
Will not be buying these phones however because of the idotic pricing in the EU mainly, 1000 euro`s for the Pixel XL ha ha.

Don't confuse carrier/network unlocked with bootloader unlocked... It seems like I shouldn't have to explain that on a place like xda, but here we are!

I believe the pixel comes bootloader unlocked everywhere but verizon. I need to verify that thanks.
Or maybe comes bootloader locked but a code will be provide it by google to unlocked it everywhere but verizon.
Thanks

I sure do hope the bootloader is able to be unlocked on vzw i like having the option even if i dont use it

sticky shi..., bootloader must be unlocked, especially for that price.
Anyway, I do not need Android phone without root.

There's a statement from Deutsche Telekom answering a query from a German tech blogger that Pixels bought via that provider will also be bootloader not unlockable.
I still doubt that cause they haven't done that before. We'll see and cross our fingers...

I preordered mine on the UK EE network. Does anyone know if the BL will be locked? Thanks

G4-Locked Bootloader?

It's the deal breaker for me. Will the G4 like the G2 and G3 have a locked bootloader? The phone itself looks great but if LG do this again, they can forget it.

I am afraid now a days you will have to look at the M9 or Nexus if you want an unlocked boot loader. Of course it will just be a matter of time before that will be bypassed like on the G2 & G3.

My Note 4 came with an unlocked bootloader and my Z2 last year was unlockable. I had the G3 for a month and gave up with it as it took too long for a work around.
I was talking about an across the board unlocked, not dependent on variant/carrier, etc. Those two are the only ones besides any "Google Play Edition" phones, which I haven't seen with the current generation,by which are going to be factory unlocked. Good luck in your search.

Actually, that is for bootloader unlock. It is a feature of lollipop. I am surprised to see it outside of nexus however. Checking that option does not unlock your bootloader, rather it is a security setting to allow the process to happen. With Nexus, you must check this option before you can use "fastboot oem unlock". It has also been the cause of many soft and hard bricks on the Nexus 6.

Hello everyone. I think this might be a good sit to ask my question. My wife is using the pixel xl on Verizon, I have it unlocked, rubbing dirty unicorn, and has not been touched firmware/rom wise since almost a year ago. I have been using my OP3T and need help updating her firmware, radio, modem, ROM and ask that jazz... Backups abs restores are funny I remember that, but not specifics. Please, can someone point me in the right direction so that I can get her phone up to date as painless as possible... I'm so sorry for the lazimess on my end, this device turned out to be very complicated when it came to modding, and I have a newborn baby so I can't commit tree time to scour the forms, not to mention? Wife dies not like to be without a phone.... We are on Verizon (Fi was awful) so maybe a return to stock and keep BL unlocked, then root... do you still use boot-to-root? Or will magdisk work? Magdisk.zip did not flash for me. I hour someone understands this post abs is kind enough to respond.

Now how in the hell did he get so darn lucky? I've been wanting to unlock my bootloader since I got my Verizon pixel XL since October... Wtf? Not fair.. ? anyways.. I'm still willing to contribute to the exploit of bootloader unlock for something more recent to work... Shame the depixel8 exploit team didn't want to 1up and find us another way.
Dollar short, day too late I suppose... But anyone having an idea to get this done please PM me or post us something....please!!!!!?

?????? How were you not able to unlock the bootloader, did you mean 2016 October or 2017 October? I got my Pixel XL on January 2017 from Verizon and was able to unlock the bootloader.
Unfortunately it was October 2017.
I just wish I could figure it out myself.. you'd think some HTC tool would work maybe since it's made really by HTC and not Google technically. Anyway, someone up for the challenge? Any takers? Please? Lol

Certainly not the US version but if the OEM unlock option is available in settings then I guess it's possible on the few other places that got the snapdragon.

I don't think that is correct though. I'm pretty sure my S9 has been left on for over a week and it hasn't appeared.

The OEM UNLOCK appears but all of the usual unlock proccedure produces no Bootloader Unlock when it resets.

If it were stolen and "blacklisted", I doubt the device would be working fine.
Unless "blacklisted" is only effective for use in the USA, as Google suggests.
Google:
............... Blacklisted phones can’t be used in the United States, but some companies can unlock them for international use.

Mine is a Verizon phone purchased form UAE, it also shows blacklisted but it works just fine. I receive monthly updates without any problem, even adb sideloaded android pie full OTA when it got released. Main issue with mine is that I cannot unlock its bootloader so obviously can't root it but i believe you can unlock yours and root it.

If it's working and it says it's blacklisted, it's probably a U.S. only thing as Google suggests.
Clearly someone managed to get Google financing and stopped making payments. So no, you didn't buy a stolen phone. Anyway, the blacklist carriers use here in the United States is only effective if the phone itself is in the US. In your case, where you are in Pakistan, the device will work normally even though it's blacklisted.
For a period of time there was talk of every carrier worldwide using the same blacklist, which would really ruin your day. As of now, obviously nothing has come of it.
Generally a IMEI will only be blacklisted in the country it was reported stolen.

I think I am?? I can definitely see when a message is delivered and read. I thought those were both features of RCS
I have Tmo phone and when I go to message settings/chat settings have options to send read receipt and share typing indications, so I believe those 2 are RCS functions, just called chat. I find them completely useless for me and disabled them promptly, but if you need it, they seem to be implemented on Tmo branded phone, but I don't know if they actually work.

Okay. I was curious if it was hitting you with the unauthorized software error
Yeah. I dunno. Personally I would try to Odin the latest stock image of the carrier build and use the CSC that wipes (not home_csc). See if that has any affect. If you were in the mood to troubleshoot, depending on how important it is to you.

TMB/TMB/TMB is T-Mobile device
TMB/TMB/XAA is unlocked device flashed with T-Mobile rom.
The last part (XAA) will always be XAA on an unlocked device.
As to the original question:
Delivery and Read receipts are working between the 3 Note 10+ devices the family has here. All from T-Mobile (TMB/TMB/TMB).

Someone else will have to answer that part as I don't know enough on the technical part of that and how the services work with the provider themselves to answer. I did do an edit to indicate my T-Mobile devices all appear to be working for the RCS features of delivery and read receipts.
