Verizon Google Pixel XL with Bootloader Unlocked Root questions - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I purchased my Google Pixel XL through Verizon when it was released. I'm now looking to root my phone completely. Does anyone know if the phone can be rooted?

He is fine, look at the second screenshot. Its already unlocked.

Hello everyone. I think this might be a good sit to ask my question. My wife is using the pixel xl on Verizon, I have it unlocked, rubbing dirty unicorn, and has not been touched firmware/rom wise since almost a year ago. I have been using my OP3T and need help updating her firmware, radio, modem, ROM and ask that jazz... Backups abs restores are funny I remember that, but not specifics. Please, can someone point me in the right direction so that I can get her phone up to date as painless as possible... I'm so sorry for the lazimess on my end, this device turned out to be very complicated when it came to modding, and I have a newborn baby so I can't commit tree time to scour the forms, not to mention? Wife dies not like to be without a phone.... We are on Verizon (Fi was awful) so maybe a return to stock and keep BL unlocked, then root... do you still use boot-to-root? Or will magdisk work? Magdisk.zip did not flash for me. I hour someone understands this post abs is kind enough to respond.

Look at the first screenshot. By the unlock slider it says 'bootloader is already unlocked'.

Now how in the hell did he get so darn lucky? I've been wanting to unlock my bootloader since I got my Verizon pixel XL since October... Wtf? Not fair.. ? anyways.. I'm still willing to contribute to the exploit of bootloader unlock for something more recent to work... Shame the depixel8 exploit team didn't want to 1up and find us another way.
Dollar short, day too late I suppose... But anyone having an idea to get this done please PM me or post us something....please!!!!!?

?????? How were you not able to unlock the bootloader, did you mean 2016 October or 2017 October? I got my Pixel XL on January 2017 from Verizon and was able to unlock the bootloader.

Unfortunately it was October 2017.
I just wish I could figure it out myself.. you'd think some HTC tool would work maybe since it's made really by HTC and not Google technically. Anyway, someone up for the challenge? Any takers? Please? Lol

damn wife tried to help me, and i think she screwed me even more...

So I just got my Evo, and out the box it already had the Anti-Root OTA Update installed... well she took hers to sprint today since she couldnt get Netflix to work, and they told her there was an update availible to fix that. so she downloaded it on hers and now netflix wirks great for her.
So she comes home, and grabs mine and updates it for me... trying to prove to me that she knows how to do some things... Now my software number is 4.24.651.1... yay... wonder when THIS one is gonna be cracked so i can finally root this thing!
sorry dude the root method isnt availabile yet but devs and unrevoked are workin on it i think they will have root method out by october bro
Leave her...
I believe you can flash the ruu back to 2.2 and root.

You can't be serious?!? Within 6 days people can find a way to root the EVO 3D, but the Gingerbread update that's been out for a month, can't be cracked?
I'm in no situation to get upset, I guess. I don't know a thing about how to do it, but I had to replace my rooted phone due to a cracked casing, and I just received the new one 2 days ago.
I'm missing all the goods....like Synergy.
when they think they know it all, let them do the hard work

Originally the Evo was rooted before it actually launched (thanks toast!). HTC has gotten better locking the Evo down since then.
Does this give you free access to her purse now? LOL
nm....Frustrated with Spint
Tell her that you have made a choice to leave her for your phone. and you want to have great sex with the HDMI port on your phone. lmao!!!!! Cause we all know it is that small since you can't tell her NOT to touch your phone. lol! but then again, girls will be girls. they'll do what they want anyway because they actually think they know what they are doing because some idiot at sprint told her that. lmao. anyway. hahahhahahahahaha. The only reason I root is to use the SO CALL FREAKING 10 DOLLARS a month they are stealing from us. Use as much internet as I can. hahahahahaha
Every one of you who would even joke about your wife the way you are should be ashamed of yourself. As for the OP, you should be kicked hard in the junk for such a disrespectful thread title.

4g test device ????

Hello all. I been on the forums a long time but never needed to post until now.
I just bought a HTC One from Gazelle and when I was on the phone with Verizon activating it, the rep asked me to verify that I had the right imei numbers. He stated to me (and it shows on my Verizon page) that it is a "4G TEST DEVICE " Sure enough when I went to the apps page I see apps for:
Dev Tools
Google Settings
HTC SSD Test Tool
Power Usage Reporter
PVS Info
RxD Test QMI
User Trial Feedback
Before buying this I knew I wanted to flash to the HTC One developer Edition. But at this point I am not sure if I should take any special things into mind as this is a Verizon test/development phone. I am content to use it as it is except it won't let me update to the latest builds for the phone. It is running software 1.09.90605.6 which if I understand correctly is a old version. Does anyone have advice? Do you think and of the rom cooks would like a dump from this rare find?
Thanks all

Well I want to flash this to the developer version, but before I do it I wanted to see if any of the rom devs wanted to capture the current image from the system before I do as I don't know how valuable this phone stuff is in its current state. (remembers back when the first android equip dev hp touchpad landed in the hands of the public on accident)
Definitely. There's a bunch of debug tools and hidden APKs cut out from the final release builds that can give us more insight into the radio hardware, for example.
I would ask around, maybe sonic would know.
off topic, im Curious how was the condition of the phone? I almost bought a phone from them but was a little leary
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
Being that no one showed much interest and was running a pre release version and couldn't update to the Verizon kitkat rom, I have to wipe the whole phone clean. To the point that I bricked the phone and I had to use fastboot command in recovery to flash the stock Verizon rom before I could update. Needless to say I was up in the wee hours of the morning doing this.
The phone had nicks, on the aluminum casing and there was a small deep scratch in the middle but considering this phone was probably used a lot in a test lab its in pretty good shape.

I purchased a Galaxy S3 from a local rep that shows to verizon as a 4g test device also. It has been this way since i got it approximately 2 years ago. It also has a similar stamp on the front face as yours showing which test device number it was.

G4-Locked Bootloader?

It's the deal breaker for me. Will the G4 like the G2 and G3 have a locked bootloader? The phone itself looks great but if LG do this again, they can forget it.

I am afraid now a days you will have to look at the M9 or Nexus if you want an unlocked boot loader. Of course it will just be a matter of time before that will be bypassed like on the G2 & G3.

My Note 4 came with an unlocked bootloader and my Z2 last year was unlockable. I had the G3 for a month and gave up with it as it took too long for a work around.
I was talking about an across the board unlocked, not dependent on variant/carrier, etc. Those two are the only ones besides any "Google Play Edition" phones, which I haven't seen with the current generation,by which are going to be factory unlocked. Good luck in your search.

Actually, that is for bootloader unlock. It is a feature of lollipop. I am surprised to see it outside of nexus however. Checking that option does not unlock your bootloader, rather it is a security setting to allow the process to happen. With Nexus, you must check this option before you can use "fastboot oem unlock". It has also been the cause of many soft and hard bricks on the Nexus 6.

Seems like if you buy the Pixel from Google you will be able to unlock. Through VZW... no. That sucker will be locked down.

Or maybe comes bootloader locked but a code will be provide it by google to unlocked it everywhere but verizon.
Thanks
I sure do hope the bootloader is able to be unlocked on vzw i like having the option even if i dont use it
sticky shi..., bootloader must be unlocked, especially for that price.
Anyway, I do not need Android phone without root.
There's a statement from Deutsche Telekom answering a query from a German tech blogger that Pixels bought via that provider will also be bootloader not unlockable.
I still doubt that cause they haven't done that before. We'll see and cross our fingers...

You have probably gotten a "golden" IMEI... we know a few Amazon phones leak through the system and can be unlocked, we hear rumors from time to time of someone getting lucky.
I don't have any more Amazon Prime devices here anymore, but would be curious to have others try but I expect you just got lucky. Be aware that returning to stock after modifying the device could be problematic as we have no firmware images from the amazon software channel and a different software channel won't flash, but custom ROM's work.
Remember, you have gotten the code... so your Moto warranty is voided no matter what you do (although Amazon will likely honor it if it's within return window). Tread carefully, few people have been in your shoes. :/

Did this today morning, with my Moto G5 plus amazon prime and now with the ROM][8.1.0][POTTER] Pixel Experience already.
the amz version can be unlocked now it seems I got it also
I hardly read up on my G5 Plus here because the phone was unrootable, but I thought I'd come see what's new and WOW.....how cool is this. Now I'm unlocked, have TWRP, Magisk, and I'm happy with the phone again, even though it's not my daily driver. I had a fun afternoon.
I know we don't have the stock image to restore, and I DON'T EVEN CARE. LOL I'll have to put my TWRP backup somewhere safe or just use custom ROMs. I was too excited to NOT toy with the phone today.
I just tried mine this morning and I can confirm that it works!
If you are reading this and haven't got your unlock code, at the least, you need to do it soon. Just make sure to read ALL the Moto disclaimers and especially these forums so you know what you're getting into.

Maybe that was the reason that the page was down. A little mistake on Motorola's side to let devices through that shouldn't?
Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs
Doubt that scenario, I tried it when it was down and received the same answer.
maybe it's due to the cell updates being current.
I've been wondering if I reset the phone, would the phone be back to the way it was when I purchased it without the updates.
maybe it needs to be out of warranty ?
no that wouldn't make sense, haven't seen any post about the g4 being unlockable
it would be interesting to hear from those people who supposedly had their Amazon G5plus bootloader's unlocked.
I have the amazon exclusive...the xt1687 updated to March 2018 patch.
what I wonder and don't know is if I were to do a factory reset, would it go back to the condition before I did the updates?

If you do a factory reset, you'll still be on the March update. I've attached a screenshot of my phone in dual screen. I have the same phone, XT1687, too. I happen to get the unlock code before the website went under maintenance. I was able to install TWRP for recovery and Magisk for root.

it would be interesting to hear from those people who supposedly had their Amazon G5plus bootloader's unlocked.

Your software version isn't relevant actually... The code generated and issued is the same across versions of Android.

There's nothing you can do. your phone can't be rooted.
