I have MOTO Z PLAY XT1635-02 STOCK ROM bought in Brazil from VIVO and has NO FM RADIO (the app). Damn!
I don't know if there is a FM RADIO CHIP or not. But I tried to install MOTOROLA FM RADIO OFFICIAL APP from Google Play from link below and says it's not compatible with this phone. Damn again!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.fmplayer&hl
Anyone solve this issue and could help us with some more information?
Thank you!

Weird, according to gsmarena it does have FM radio
m.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_z_play-8310.php
I'll take a look at my z play later tonight

The chip is there, the feature is disabled. Generally speaking, FM radio is disabled on premium phones. It's understood that carriers and manufacturers want customers to subsidize premium phones on big data plans, so the trend is for those phones to drop FM radio.
Rumor has it that it might be enabled via build.prop. I haven't found a reliable source confirming that it'd work.
As a workaround, I ordered a $2 USB FM radio on eBay, and will listen to radio through that as a separate device from my phone.

I heard of a method for doing this. I have also bricked a Moto phone in the past by editing the build.prop. I heard the way to do it in by grabbing it via ADB, editing it on the computer, then pushing it back via ADB. Going to try it once I set up the phone.

From what Ive read the G2 has FM Radio capability. Any way to get the FM radio APK off of the Vision rom for use on G2??

I'm fairly sure it does not have an FM tuner.
You could always use an app like Radio Time that can live stream any FM station on the globe practically.

So if it is even possible, it will need a proprietary headset adapter thing as an antenna for the FM radio. I'm not even sure THAT info is correct. However, HTC's site makes no mention of a radio.

heck even apples ipod nano can listen to fm with ANY pair of headphones. its required since nano doesn't have a built in antenna. Fm radio isn't listed under the G2's chip specs though same went for the N1's. though somehow the N1 got radio. maybe the same thing will happen to the G2. once we get root.

They pulled up the page for the Desire Z, here is the compare page for the Desire Z & G2. Granted that it still states that the G2 has a FM radio, the ROM capacity is at least correct.

FM Transmitter

Our GSII comes with a built in FM Transmitter/Receiver chip. I haven't seen a link on this. Has anyone unlocked the potential of this hardware feature yet? I would love to be able to transmit an FM signal.

Here's the tear down of the phone. http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Epic-4G-Touch-Teardown/6481/2
The phone has the Broadcom BCM4330XKFFBG 802.11 a/b/g/n MAC/Baseband/Radio with Integrated Bluetooth 4.0+HS and FM Transceiver/Receiver. Not sure if we're going to have to be rooted to utilize this hardware but we have the internals to broadcast our music to our cars with our phones alone.

Hmmm....think of the possibilities. With a lot of states requiring hands-free cell phone operation, could this be made to work as hands free device for your vehicle? It would definitely save us consumers from having to buy yet ANOTHER piece of hardware for our phones, which can damn near drive our vehicles for us anyway.
Are there any in the market that has been tried?

Noone has gotten fm transmitter stuff working for any phone with these chips, even og epic had the chip capable of this. Probably the feature cause interference so it was not enabled. It would be a killer feature and u would imagine one manufacturer would enable it if they could. So native something preventing then if doing that. FM Radio.. anybody

Does anyone know how to enable the FM radio inside the G Pro (assuming ATT kept it inside). I know from past smart phones that FM radio ability can lay dormant inside the handset until software enables it. This was the case with a windows phone recently. I do know that the international model had the FM radio. I need to know if ATT removed the FM chip or disabled it with software. I hope some one has root ability to offer some type of FM radio on this device (or using the Bluetooth radio as FM). Thanks for any help!!!!

Default settings are usually best.
It's more likely to work if you're rooted though.
If there is no FM driver in the kernel, an alternate kernel may help.

Any way to retrieve the necessary programming?
If the FM antenna pin is grounded, as it is in most "Western world" phones now, nothing short of an extremely expensive and/or "heroic act" will fix it.
Do you know, or can you afford to hire, someone with access to thousands of dollars worth of micro-soldering and multi-layer PCB reworking equipment. And the skills to use them ?
In 4 1/2 years devoted almost exclusively to FM radio on Android, I have only ever heard of 1 successful case: A Chinese Android tablet that had an easily accessible antenna jumper. He used my app but we could never enable audio, which can be another huge hurdle.
Vast majority of devices use a PCB ground trace, that can be thick and very difficult to break. Then you'd attach a wire to a 75 cm or more long antenna/headset cable. Never mind the few coils or caps etc that need to be installed too.
TL;DR: Forget about it and get a new phone with stock FM, or a BT/FM headset like Sony MW-1.

I cancel any order at any time on request. And have been doing so for over 2 years. Back then HTC Desire and Nexus One were big and I still support those (as best I can of course).
Now, GS3, HTC One and Xperia's are big and I'm now supporting those too.
It's a "crazy" job trying to support all these, on MANY different custom & stock ROMs, and nobody else is crazy enough to seriously try it seems.

I presume we were emailing about this ?
My ability to support a device is directly related to how much support I get from customers. If it's enough, I buy the phone to support it better.
I was dismayed all variants of the "normal" GS4 had no FM. I expected to buy one, but got an HTC One instead.
I'd be happy to get some GS4 variant with FM, again, if there's sufficient interest in supporting me. I'm working 70 hour weeks and making about the legal minimum wage here for those hours; That's nice, but don't imagine I'm living in app dev luxury or some such.

I'm not sure as ive seen you for first time now and i havent mailed anyone. I do know that developers have struggle with different roms and phones but codes for fm radio shouldnt be that hard. Even the S4 mini stock rom has a FM radio tuner, so missing it on cm10.1 was a bummer.

I think we can blame the US market for the lack of recording in most FM apps. I think there's some group or something that charges $10 or so for "FM recorders". And as always, US market effects often hit the rest of the world.
I think this is why there are virtually no MP3/FM players that record. It's a simple feature addition is many cases, so it's omission seems strange.
And only one company, Samsung, has (had) recording in their FM app on International high end phones (GS2, GS3, Note, Note2). And none of the US carriers sell/sold these International phones.
I presume that whatever groups demand ransom for FM recording have either never heard of my app, or figure I'm small potatoes and not worth pursuing.

Hi,
so I have tried turned off the RDS and it doesn't help.
I live in the Czech Republic and I found several stations with this problem.
The first was Country radio 89.5 MHz (Prague)
My phone is i9195 with Cyanogenmod 10.1 (problem is same on all modifications based on the same kernel) so problem is probably there.

[Q] Ant+ support or not ?

Does the G3 support Ant+ ?
I'm having mixed results with my searches... I found a few review saying it does, automated "versus" sites says the S5 has Ant+ support but the G3 doesn't... I don't see Ant+ on LG's website and the G3 isn't in the Ant+ Product directory (http://www.thisisant.com/directory/filter/~/60/~/)
I've even seen someone somehwere say that any device that has Android 4.3 is Ant+ compatible, but i doubt that because im running 4.4 (CyanogenMod) on my current S3 and it doesn't have Ant+ ... but then, maybe this is just an AOSP license-quirk kinda deal...
I'm really interested in the G3 but i'd really like to be able to connect all my bike's devices to it (which i can't do on my S3). One of these devices is a powermeter and it's too expensive to replace for a Bluetooth one (and there aren't any Bluetooth compatible head-unit for the bike, that i'd like to use).
Right now, there are 3 phones that interest me, in this specific order : LG G3 > Sony Xperia Z2 > Galaxy S5 (fugly)
If the G3 does Ant+, its the one i'm getting! Please help me figure it out! hehe

I update to Lollipop(checked system had AntHalSerice) and install ANT+ SERVICE and ANT+ PLUGINS. from Play store, ANT+ will be work , I used MIO LINK to checked is work fine.

Is this using the ANT+ Enabler app? Or are you saying the AntHalService is available stock after updating to Lollipop?
