Car mount and flip cover

I'm looking for car mount for my new note, i had Nokia universal car mount what i used with my desire, but that is too small for my new phone.
I really like note flip cover and Samsung original car mount doesn't work..
I looked for amazon and found this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Twist-Phone...CH32/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1340797760&sr=8-3
Is that good, will that work with note flip cover and will the suction hold? It's pretty cheap, so don't know if it's any good
If you have any car mount that you have used with flip cover, please share

I use the Mountek Car Mount, cd slot mounted.
The flip cover is folded around the back which isn't ideal but it works fine. The power cable going through the bottom base helps with securing the whole unit into the mount.

After trying a few mounts this works the best for me.

yeah i read about CD mount also, but that isn't going to work with me, my radio is behinf the front panel, so it's pretty deep in there compared to normal setup (2din radio, ~1.7din slot... it was fun when i noticed that...).

Dock that works with Draco Bumper

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any docks that work with the draco bumper. I'm only asking because the draco bumper seems to be quite large. I've had to buy 3 different aux cords because they wouldn't fit, and I don't want to waste time trying out different docks.
You could always consider buying a 'universal dock' that clamps to the sides of the phone and then plug the phone in with a normal cable. It's not really a dock per say but it'll definitely do the job of holding your phone upright/horizontal.
If you need a link to one just let me know.

I have been using that for a while. all my devices and my GF's devices have a the metal plate installed (and most, like the s3) have it under the battery door, so you cannot see it) and I have one for the car, and one for work. anywhere i go, with whatever i take, i can mount without looking. I also ziptied a cable to it, and am running a tasker script to start car mode (triggered by bluetooth to my alpine ex-10)
and yes, you can easily use the camera with it.

Would this cancel NFC and if its a metal plate do you lose any reception? And how sturdy is it? I wouldn't want it falling off because of a few big bumps on the road, and I thought strong magnets aren't good for our phones.

I do not have a way to check the NFC cancelling...
there is no reception loss, as it is is as large the battery only, and the antenna is up top, away from the plate.
big bumps?
i live in central PA, and drive a car lowered on coilover suspension (and turned pretty tight too) and the phone has not budged an inch. perhaps i should do a review.. with the camera running during an autocorss and going over nasty bumps.
magnets mess up harddrives.. not phones.

Nexus 5 universal magnetic Qi Car Mount

Hi all,
I looked up a long time to find a magnetic Qi car charger, but couldn't find one.
So i decided to built one on my own.
It's just an little adapter to connect a Qi Charger with an universal car mount and stick some magnets on it.
I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone or Qi Charger, or not working mounts!
What you need:
- Qi Charger BC252W
- Adapter
- universal car mount
- thin cardboard (500µm - normal for candy packing) or plasti dip
- Magnets
- superglue
All together about 70€
more about the Magnets:
the easiest setup with good strength should be 8 magnets of 6x4x2 mm.
That's what I'm using atm without a bumper.
Because I don't have a bumper I can hardly tell which magnets will be the best for this. When I tried with a chipcard 8x4x3 mm looked pretty good, but didn't try the effects on the charging current.
The Adapter is 3D printed online at sculpteo and I published it there sculpteo and at shapeways.
That's how it looks like:

For mounting to the glas I used Car Mount 1. But you should be able to use any mount with this universal connection interface like Car Mount 2, Car Mount 3, Car Mount 4 or Car Mount 5
The new special thing is, that the Nexus 5 is build to fit with a magnetic interface on a Qi charger.
Because of this there shouldn't be any problems with the magnetic field. While testing everything works fine.
Source: ifixit
How to build:
- get a flat screwdriver and remove the upper rubber of the Qi charger with the glue
if you are using 2mm tall magnets stick the cardboard under the rubber. When using 1mm tall magnets the cardboard should placed under the magnets.
- imagine a square and stick the magnets with your glue at the corner, so they look 1mm over the inner ring
put some attention that an edge look to the micro usb port
- cut the rubber in pieces so it fits between the magnets
- stick the pieces with glue between the magnets
- fit up the Qi charger on the adapter (if it's not strong enough use some glue and please tell me)
then it should look like:
using this now for several month and it works great!!! fine charging and no drop (german streets)
Here is a video of how i shake it and how easy it is to mount and dismount!
If you like it, show it to me and spend a beer or two
Edit:
Cheap Version:
didn't test on my own!
what you need:
- Qi Charger BC252W
- superglue, maybe a powerstrip
- universal car mount
- magnets
- thin cardboard (500µm - normal for candy packing)
All together about 40€
How to build:
- remove the upper rubber of the charger
- stick the magnets to the Qi charger. For this imagine a square and stick them to the corners,
so that the magnets look about 1mm over the inner ring
- cut the rubber in pieces so they fit between the magnets
- stick the rubber on the cardboard, and cut them off and stick them between the magnets
- cut off the 4 hooks of the mount, so there is a plane surface
- then stick the Qi charger with the powerstrip or with superglue to this plan surface
Which glue did you use to stick the magnets to the plastic?
that's really wonderful....really like the way you have utilized the things...good job man....:good:

Nice mount !
I got 2 questions before I maybe try to do this :
- Would this work with the official bumper case ?
- I plan to use a NFC chip to activate several things when I put my phone in my car. The chip would be located on the car mount. Would the Qi + Magnets + NFC combo work together or should I expect some problems (I could workaround the need for the NFC chip on the car mount, but I'd prefer this chip on it)
BTW, that's the damn thing I was looking for everywhere without any success. If I manage to make it and get it working some day, you'll deserve a beer for sure.
EDIT : Third question, about the BC252W, which I didn't know before. I could see that it uses a 1,5 A current which seems good. However, do you know if it keeps the phone charged once the battery is 100% full ? I could not find the answer.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have a case, so I tried with a stack of two chip cards. The N45 8x2 magnets are to weak to hold your phone secure, but when I receive the N52 8x1 I'll try again, cause they are much more stronger.
The range of the charger is about 1cm and the range of a NFC card is 3cm. When Qi gets enabled it will disable NFC, but when you don't move to fast, it will first recognize the NFC tag first and later the Qi charger.

what of the "How to build" is not clear?
when you see the charger unmodified and then the modified picture, I think you know what to do.
But let me know, if you are not sure at a step.
I bought them at a webpage for those magnets.
when you search for "n45 magnet 8x2" in google you see them.
But I think the "N52 magnet 8x1" are better, so I ordered them at ebay, but they are still not here.
My car mount only offers a 1" rubber ball ("B" size), like the one on this product.
I could maybe find an adaptator, but I wonder if it would be possible for me to alter the 3D model of your adapter to make such a "B" size ball protrude instead of those little holes, without making it breakable. I haven't got any skills in 3D modeling...

Nice work. I was thinking of doing the same thing with the same charger. Still waiting for magnets though.
Any heat issue with this magnet arrangement? I'm not sure about the exact coil location for this charger, but I assume the magnet overlaps with the coil a little bit.

yeah it overlaps. the coil has the diameter of the inner ring, but there is no heat issue at all. It's warm, but not to much.

Nope, he specifically mentions including magnets for the Nexus 5 and 7 in his video, since the back of the N5 isn't shiny. He also has an update showing the Nexus 7 sticking to the magnets.
Any chance you'd give us the .stl file for the mount clip? I have access to a 3D printer and would love to print something practical for once.
Hello,
I finally got the 3D-printed part and the Qi charger. They both fit very well together.
However, I ordered and got some 8x1mm N52 magnets, but they don't hold the phone very well. They stabilize the phone horizontally (not a lot) but can't hold it vertically. My phone got a case (the official bumper) but I tried without this case and it still doesn't hold the phone well. They're less efficient than magnets inside the new Google Qi charger (which can't hold a phone vertically though).
It has nothing to do with your video in the first message. BTW I could record a video of my magnets to show how they perform if needed. So I wonder if my magnets are bad (and if they're really N52)...Did you try your N52 magnets ? If they work, where did you order them ?
Could this be related to the fact that my magnets are 1mm thick instead of 2 ? I doubt it because I tried to stack them (I ordered 20 of them) but it wasn't enough to really hold the phone, even when I stacked 4 x 5 of them.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT : I tried magnets before gluing them on the charger, so I didn't ruin it. So I still wonder if I should order the same magnets from another provider or try ordering thicker magnets.

Hi,
Great to hear that somebody tried it and the adapter fit well
Yes I tried 8x1 N52 magnets and find out that they have the same strength my 8x1 N45 had.
So I contacted the vendor and he told me there is no big difference. At least they where exactly the same, just sold different.
When I looked more into it I found a formula:
Strength = magnetisation x volume
N45 8x1 = 2262
N52 8x1 = 2614
N45 8x2 = 4524 <- used in video
N52 8x2 = 5228
So yes you need the 8x2 magnets to get the power.
When you use the bumper try the N52 8x2 magnets.
If they hold it with the bumper please tell me
Gesendet von meinem GT-N8000 mit Tapatalk
That's strange because even when I stack 2 (or more) of my 8x1mm, so it becomes a "8x2mm" magnet, it still isn't powerful enough. My magnets are maybe defective.
I don't know if ordering magnets of bigger diameter (> 8 mm) might help.
When I order neodymium magnets, most of the price is freight so I'll probably order a lot of different sizes to try them all. I'll post news when I'll get them.

Car dock

Has anyone seen a car dock for the G4? Or know of a good one that they recommend?
I had a universal one from my old phone.... couple comments on those types. Look into one that clamps from the sides(so maybe ones for iphone?) The one I have is bottom and top and it barely fits thanks to the size of this phone. Also, I doubt there will be one where you can still use the back button(thank you knock to unlock!) Finally, this phone is bigger and thus heavier. The mount I have is one that plugs into the "cigarette lighter" which works for my car. However, I would imagine you might have problems with a suction cup mount especially if it is a cheaper one.
I always used to buy the factory car mounts, but I switch phones so often, that it was getting a bit pricey. When I bought my G3 I bought the iBolt MiniPro. Finally, a mount I can use phone to phone. Here's the link to it on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-IBUC-33418-miniPro-Connect-Kit/dp/B00IJZYRCK
Ok thanks I'll check it out.
I got this one from my local Target and I love it... http://www.scosche.com/mounts/magicmount-landing. The best thing is the little metal price that you need to stick on your phone works just as well slipped inside of the back cover making it a non-permanent solution.
I highly recommend the iOttie One Touch mounts. You just push the phone into the holder, and there's a button in the middle that releases the spring loaded side clamps that locks the phone in place. To pick the phone back up, you squeeze a couple of tabs on the side right where you'd grab the phone naturally. I've got the old style in my car, and the new one with the telescoping mount in my wife's. Both are great.
They also have the very sticky type of suction cup that you renew by just running water over it. Ours both stick to the consoles that even have some texture on the plastic.
I've got the smaller size mount that I've had since getting an S4, but hers in the bigger size. The G4 fits OK in either.
Places like Meritline have them on sale frequently. I paid about $12 for the first one, and $15 for the newer one.
I got this iBolt when I had my Note 3, works great with the G3 and G4.
http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-xProDock-car-speakers-extended-Batteries/dp/B00AOCSFYC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434102989&sr=8-1&keywords=ibolt+car+dock
I have one of those magnetic vent mounts and it turns out that the piece of metal fits perfectly behind the plastic back cover. Those magnets are strong enough to work through cases, though I have not received a case for the g4 to test it out.
They are usually on sale on amazon for $6
Update so got a cheap case from amazon and the magnet didn't work behind the battery cover, will try the plate between phone and cover like I had before with my S4. Only problem is the case back is rounded.
More sturdy - Waze user
I was thinking about getting the Qi sticker for the LG G4, after they get more in the US, then picking up the TYLT VU car charger http://www.tylt.com/vu-car/, but that would put it to far away in my vehicle.
So get either the ProClip https://www.proclipusa.com/ or the Pro.Fit http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/shopvsm.htm custom mount for my vehicle and then use the RAM Mounts http://www.rammount.com/components to convert and link them together in a good position for Navigation and Waze use in Horizontal or Vertical position.
This would allow me to use the Qi Charging (not capable on my current phone as it is a few years old) with any new phone I purchase, as why I am in this section is that I am leaning towards the LG G4 for my next phone.
Speaking of proclipusa they make custom smartphone holders and since their G4 holder is not out yet, they have a page to sign up and get notified when it comes out.
http://www.proclipusa.com/targetsections/lg-g4-car-phone-mounts.aspx
I'd highly recommend the Spiderpodium and just bend it into shape. It's super versital and minimal, but works fantastically as a car dock for my G4 and other phones. You can mount it in an air vent or really any sort of receptical, I have a slot for CDs and it Does just fine in there.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00U8...iderpodium&dpPl=1&dpID=413qHPi24pL&ref=plSrch
The official maker is Breffo, but that one is very inexpensive and looks just fine.
These are the two I have in my cars.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IOQ3K6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00
Both are strong enough to hold the LG G Flex in the Otter Box Defender Case. I threw the metal plate on top of the battery put the leather cover back on and no issues.
I've just ordered a Brodit universal cradle (I swear by Brodit cradles and custom wired charging cables). I have installed a couple of 5v 3A USB voltage regulators wired in to a MicroUSB cable which pokes out just underneath my Brodit cradle location. Should give me plenty of juice for charging with Nav running.
According to Brodit, the universal holder is suitable for phones between 62-77 mm wide with a thickness of 6-10 mm. The G4 is 76.1mm wide with a 6.3mm to 9.8mm curved depth. Hopefully will fit fine! Will find out tomorrow!

Yep, the M8 has the mini-USB port flipped to what the G4 has. So car mounts made for the M8 won't work with the G4 unless you modify it.

I wonder if this will interfere with the NFC at all? I don't use NFC really so it isn't a big deal, just curious. Is it possible to stick the plate on the cover vice the battery since we have the option of a spare battery? Then I wouldn't have to worry about which Battery was in my phone.
Everyone you need to check out RAM Mounts! -- https://www.rammount.com/products/xgrip
I have two RAM Mount X-Grips. One on my motorcycle and one in my truck. RAM Mounts are modular mounts that you buy in pieces (they do sell kits) to serve the purpose you need and where you want to mount it. Due to its design it will securely hold most phones (my G4 with the spigen case fits) without any issue. It is easy to throw the phone in the mount and you never have to tighten anything down.
Example of configurations:
Motorcycle = handlebar U-bolt base + short arm + Standard X-Grip Mount
Truck = Adhesive flexible base + standard arm + Standard X-Grip Mount

Watch out for the magnet mounting types. I had one that used a small metal sheet inserted between the phone back and the phones case. It scratched the back of my HTC One M8! Otherwise it was great - but beware of the metal plate scratches.

Watch out for the magnet mounting types. I had one that used a small metal sheet inserted between the phone back and the phones case. It scratched the back of my HTC One M8! Otherwise it was great - but beware of the metal plate scratches.

Most of the better magnet mounts manufacturers provide protective film or sticker to be applied between metal plate and the back of the phone.
If anyone applies plate without sticker then it is their own fault coming from lack of imagination.

Anyone have any suggestion to a car mount for HTC 10? Possibly a magnet type so I can readily remove it. i.e. no clamp type mount. Also, hold it horizontally.
Thanks in advance.

The X-Grip from Ram Mounts has been a great investment. I've used it with M7, M8, M9 and now 10. It's even large enough to accommodate my Nexus 7 Flo (without a case).
You can find smaller mounts, of course, but you can't beat the X-Grip's versatility and construction quality. I also have their GoPro and Tough-Claw attachments. After all these years, I have not found a mount that could replace this one.

https://www.amazon.com/s/?url=searc...iphone+7+car+mount&hidden-keywords=B00V54LQO4 do you think this one will work for the htc 10? I trust this would come with the metal plates..
I am using sticky pads since the m7, it's the perfect holding thing, no marks, no scratches and not expensive

Really like this one. Works better on some vents and not well on others. So might have to experiment. But I'm happy with this.

Has anyone used the iOttie Easy One Touch 3 or Easy Flex 3 with this phone, especially with a case?

I'm concerned the buttons would be in the way, continuously being pressed by the cradle's arms.
I'm personally gonna order a Brodit holder, they've finally made the passive and active holders for our 10. (don't know when but haven't checked their website in a while)

The passive one probably as I already have a Tronsmart 2xQC3.0 charger and pair that with the universal suction mount as I don't want to do a direct install with the ProClip.
Hi
I have connectivity run through to my armrest console. So, I want to just open up the armrest console, slot the phone in to the mount with usb-c, close the armrest and away I go. Keeps everything neat and the phone out of sight. The phone won't fit in 'portrait'/standing up. I want it to preferably be laying landscape on the longer edge. That way I can have the mount up against one side of the console and still have room for other things, eg sunglasses etc.
The mounts I've seen on ebay, amazon etc, if I lay them on their side, seem like they would put the phone at a funny angle and/or not support the phone properly and put stress on the USB-C connector (bad!)
Does anyone have any ideas or pointers?
Thanks

this thing is great, but be wary of the magnet that you put on your phone, it can wipe your credit card. to avoid that you can use the freemount
