Is there a way to backup and transfer all apps fully without root? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

My Pixel XL just arrived, and it is amazing. I can't bring myself to switch though until I am able to transfer all my non-system apps over.
Typically I use titanium backup, but that requires root (which might take a while). I tried using Helium but that said some apps wouldn't back up and transfer, so that kinda defeats the purpose.

Thanks for the note about Helium, as I had wondered about that app...
At this point I don't yet have a Pixel (I have the Silver XL on pre-order).
However - I was wondering about using Samsung's Smart Switch. When I got the Note 7 I used it to get my GS4 stuff on the new phone, and then put it back to the GS4 after the second recall (LOL ).
Has anyone tried Smart Switch with the Pixel/Pixel XL?

I didn't use it, but I thought the device setup offered that.

device setup does it, and there are a couple of other ways to do it..you dont need root to transfer all your existing programs over..

The device setup didn't copy over private app data I was sad to find out. It just told the pixel to download the same apps from the app store.

Check out helium backup. Just used that for my fiancees phone and it worked well for us.

Device setup just tells the phone to download all your apps from the play store. Some of them support some backup features via that method, but not very many. Doing that, I'm back to square one with apps like Tasker, my RSS reader, or some games' progress. A full backup via titanium + root would restore all that data.

If you look at the screenshot in my original post, Helium can't backup every app because some don't allow it. With root + titanium backup, all apps are able to be backed up. With Helium, something like 1/3 of my apps can't be backed up.

In this case there were only 3 that couldn't be backed up with helium. These were no big deal because they can just be resigned into again and be fine and didn't rely only on local data like all the other applications I needed to move for her. And the phone can't be rooted yet that I'm aware of.

In my case it is 47 that can't be backed up :/
Yeah, no root yet. Root would solve my issue.

Can anyone show a list of useless apps of T-mobile USA DEFY?

Hi guys, first I am really happy to see a DEFY section in XDA !
Well, there are many apps in Tmo(usa) defy, I have rooted it by using Z4 root.
Can anyone show a list of useless apps that I can safely remove ?
Thx a lot!
Here's a screen cap of my removed apps folder. I've had no problems at all since removing all these apps.

If anyone knew what all of them did that would be excellent. Not sure I'd want to remove 'Browser' before knowing what exactly it is it browses.
Damn that's alot!!
Thanx for the list. I would like to clean up as well, but like to first know what certain packages do, especially as I have not seen them popping up anywhere:
ArcPhotoworkshop
ArcVideoEditor
esmusica
This Kodak Perfect Touch thingy
hiphopofficial
revolver
truecountry
Is there a good way to find out which packages depend on other packages and/or services ?
all of them - use asop 2.2 custom rom

How to reinstall them?
If I uninstalled them via Titanium backup. I made a backup before uninstalling them but if I try to reinstall for example: Wi fi calling.apk via titanium backup nothing happens.
I already wiped the phone but the apps are not there anymore. How can I restore them?

You do realize you're in the Defy forum and there's no such thing?
can you tell us how you removed all those apps once the phone is rooted? Can't seem to find anything on removing the bloat... just lists of what people have removed.
Thanks

I thought I had it figured out but alas I still stomped.
You'll need to install a File manager that can access root directories and then delete the APKs using that.
The most popular one is Root Explorer. Try searching for it in Market.

[Q] First Kies Backup on My New Sprint Galaxy S3 Contains 7778 'Other Items'

What's going on with this backup? Many of my apps from my other Android devices (HTC EVO 4G, ASUS Transformer 101, Kindle Fire) automatically installed when I logged into my Google account. I've also uploaded ~350 JPG's. But where did all of these 'Other Misc. Content' 7778 items come from? The backup via USB has dragged on for over an hour now with 2500 items to go. Kies provided no warning of the time the backup might require, gives no indication of how much longer it's going to take, and just cautions me not to disconnect my phone.
This is why I don't backup or restore with Kies. It takes forever and you get all kinds of stuff you probably don't want. I don't check the box to have Google back up my phone when I flash a new Rom either. I like to install everything fresh, especially with a new phone.

I understand...Kies backup sucks. I've since rooted the Sprint Galaxy S3 and am using Titanium Pro. Thanks for the reply.
You bet. Can't go wrong with Titanium Backup. I have system apps backed up from a couple dozen leaked ICS roms on my E4GT. If I flash a new Rom and something is missing that I want such as the ICS Calendar, I can restore it with TB.

do you have a copy of the asop clock anywhere? I can't figure out how to set the default alarm sound in the touchwiz one....
Sent from my SPH-L710
Not sure what clock you are talking about but I have a desk clock that's pretty cool. Are you familiar with the 7zip application for Windows? I think their is a Mac version, too and you can download it free. You can use it to extract apks from roms and then either add them to another Rom before you flash it or copy it to your pc then move to your phone. If you want an app from a Rom, download the Rom. Open 7zip and on the left corner of the app navigate to the Rom. Once the Rom is open, click on system>app and you'll see all the apps in the Rom. (There's a few in Data>app too.) Right click the apk you want and select copy, paste it somewhere on your computer, then add it to your phone. If you want to add an app to a Rom, open system app with 7 zip and drag and drop the apks you want into the folder. Exit 7zip by clicking the up button in the upper left of the program. I'll pm you the desk clock. If you install it, you'll get a clock widget that looks like this

Cyanogenmod titanium settings question

Can anyone tell me the file to look for in Titanium Backup to restore all
my screen layouts/widgets/apps? It was easy to find on my old Evo, think
it was called Desktop or something. I see nothing that looks like that in
my Titanium backup of Cyanogenmod?

are you referring to a batch restore of system files and apps as well as app data?
If this is the case open Titanium Backup:
Click the Check-mark at top right,
go to restore missing apps + system Data and click run.
Check off all the apps and system files you want to restore or just restore all and click the top right corner again and wait!
(I would suggest that you only restore system data from previous version of same ROM)
No, I just want to know the name of the file to restore that saves
my 5 screens layouts. The file that restores all your desktop widgets and
apps so you don't have to move every single one, one by one. All my apps
are restored, but all of the screens are blank-no shortcuts for apps there at all.

If you're using a custom launcher, it will just be the name of that launcher (e.g. Nova, Apex, etc). If not, the default one built into CM10 (or CM9, for that matter) is called Trebuchet (version 0.2 as of the 8/15 build). Make sure to do app+data, and then when you restore later restore app+data as well (and as a system app, so widgets work properly).

Do you happen to know how to get the screen to show it is charging and the light show charging.
There is no way to know when you are charged, in CM10 8/15

Yeah, I don't believe CM10 can do that yet. It can do LED notifications for everything else, in a very customized way (System Settings > Display > Notification Light), but that won't do charging or fully charged stuff from what I see.
I have not used it much myself, but a lot of people swear by Light Flow LED Control (free version market link), it can handle most any customization you want, including charging-related ones. They recently updated for the GS3 from what it looks like, too.

Any backup apps since Titanium is not working?

Titanium backup doesn't seem to work on this tab (or maybe on 4.3 yet) They updated it but that didn't do it. Anyways now that roms are rolling out I would like to be able to flash without losing stuff Any suggestions of an alternative app for now?
Titanium backup works perfect for me on 4.3 stock and cm10.2

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work?
I was able to restore fine, but when I go to backup everything and then try to copy that fold to my computer it does not work. I can copy anything and everything else off of to tab to my computer but not the Titanium Backup folder..
Make sure TiBu is closed when you don't that.
Also, copy rather than move...

Working cine for me as well, restore and backing up. Didn't do anything special. Are you moving the files while the device is locked or awake?

I also had problems with Titanium Backup but it turned out to be problems with permissions even though I gave it full permission. When I loaded up the SuperSU, it said it needed a binary update, and after I did that the problem disappeared. See if you also need an update (it required a reboot).
mine works with no issues on stock 4.3 rooted
The only thing that seems to not stick for me is breaking an apps market link
Well I just backed up just the data in twrp then just restored after I flashed the new ROM. Seems to work great. Better than messing around with tb

Rom Toolbox Pro works fine for backups
As user "gahsan" said, try updating SuperSu binary. Worked for me.
Anyone have trouble uploading to Google Drive? I always get a network error. It worked fine downloading the backup I had but it won't upload. Tried removing Drive and readding but it didn't work.

The easiest way to do this is by closing TB and then go in your file explorer (i use ES file explorer) and rename TB folder. I usually add an S in the end and when i copy them back, i remove the S. The reason is that TB backup files are being used by app in tablet rather than USB storage. Thus they can not be read.
Also you can freeze TB from Settings.
Then connect your tab via usb and copy it.
I hope that is easier !

Question Transfer App Data (without root)

Hi all,
I have a Huawei P20 pro (not rooted), from which I want to transfer all data to my new Poco F3, including app data (so that I don't have to enter any logging/prudential.
I.E. WhatsApp, Banking app, Amazon, etc).
What's the best way to do this?
Using PC or just apps, I'm happy with either.
Google search shows many options but under all someone says it doesn't work or didn't transfer app data.
Thank you in advance.
Pretty sure you need root and app called swish
Try clone my phone app...

Like you can't lol... Adb root is probably disabled , /data/data is unreadable without root - no app you will download can acces it.
Read up on shizuku , maybe it's elevated access can reach /data/data but I seriously doubt it - it would probably have to be a custom module that spoofs itself as the target apps.
Is bootloader unlocked ? There are guys out there offering bootloader unlock for 30$ or less. If money isn't an issue and you really need data that's the only way
I forgot to mention but have you already tried huawei backup/clone app? Maybe OEM app for cloning actually has access to /data/data

I haven't tried Huawei backup app as I assume it wouldn't allow me to transfer data to another manufacturer (Xiaomi).

What do you guys think of Mi Mover app?
I understand now (thanks to Rstment ^m^) that I cannot move app data, however this app claims it can move general data from storage and app (without app data).
Does it move files as it is on the old phone or moves all pictures in one folder, etc,?

Use app on huawei phone and follow instructions, or maybe it's as you say... Regardless try that first as it's most likely to be able to reach data , if no I'm pretty sure poco f3 already has an app for migrating
