can't install apks - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I feel dumb, it doesn't know what to use to install an apk... I've never had this issue before.

Try settings - storage - explore - downloads
And select your downloaded apk. If that doesn't work, download file explorer and select it from inside there. Idk why it sees it as an apk this way and not when you select open or from the notification.

I've never had to do that before... Maybe this is the first phone I've had longer than a day without flashing...

I downloaded a ton of APKs last night. When i found the apks in the file folder and ready to install. O was prompted to choose package installer or a different program

You should be able to just install the APK directly from your phone as long as you have unknown sources enabled. You can also install it using adb by using the following command: adb install filename.apk

Wasn't that easy. It doesn't know how to install it if you open the file from notifications or the downloads app.

I had the same problem at first, but I downloaded androzip and installed my .apks just fine. I only have two apps I side load old beta of fb and the chat enabler antaresone wrote to keep messenger in the native app.

Yeah to get it to install XDA labs I had to delete data for Package Installer under apps.

[APP] Facebook 1.6.3

This version includes features such as Facebook chat, allows you to tag friends in statuses, and home screen in landscape.
Please read directions as I am not responsible for anything the happens to your A7
Requirements:
Uninstaller for Root(Found in Market)
Root Explorer(Found in Market) or a Alternate File Explore App
Facebook 1.6.3 (Found here: www.apktop.com/facebook-for-android-1-6-3.html )
Open Uninstaller for Root, scroll down to the Facebook App and then click backup App, after click Uninstall
Next open Root Explore and navigate to /sdcard, once in /sdcard navigate to download folder will you will find and copy the file: com.facebook.katana.apk
Once copied you will need to paste apk file in /system/app (may need to toggle MOUNT R/O), after apk has been pasted, click on apk to install and you are all finished
facebook should be installable as a normal application. while the root related instructions are necessary for removal, i would just suggest tapping on the new facebook apk in the file manager to install ( w unknown sources enabled in settings/apps).
your facebook will be updatable via market after install that way, w out need for system app removal in the future.

Thanks,I just did it your way but the only thing i don't understand is how is it updatable if it doesn't appear in "My Apps" in the market?
mmm, manually installed apps might not show up in the old patched market, but i think they do in the new market (havent patched or ported that for a7 yet). i know i see manually added apps on my x10.
if you were to look up the facebook app in market, you may see it listed as updatable still, tho it may not show in your downloaded apps.
if youre not seeing facebook or the other apps youre posting in market at all (search), then youre not using my patched market.

Uninstall apps on ICS SGN...

Hi all,
I have downloaded fifa 12 and after realising that it don't work, I immediately proceed to uninstalling it.
The problem is fifa 12 downloaded an additional resource of appx 1.2gb. And removing the app doesnt remove this 1.2gb.
How do I remove an app entirely... else I think I wasted a lot of storage spaces.

Download a file manager
Form my G-Nex *****
how did you uninstall it? i'm assuming if you just uninstall via the Play Store or Settings, then reboot, the files would disappear.
If the game put its files where it should they are deleted automatically when you uninstall.
I uninstall through settings ... however my used storage still stands at 3.2gb

Get a file manager go into sdcard/Android/data and delete it there
A Filemanager is one way but often there is a much easier way with ICS:
Identify the orphaned files/folder via Settings > Storage. Most of the time you can just delete the unwanted files right from this menu or at least get the location of the files to delete them with a file explorer.
damn was going to get fifa aswell.
FIFA not working????????

This is a great non-bloated file manager. Free and open source.

Default Downloader app stores apk as zip files

Hi,
When I use the default AFTV stick Downloader app, all apk files I download are saved as zip files which can't be opened by the app. When I download the same file with Es Explorer, the files are stored as apk.
Any idea how to tell the downloader app to store files with their original extension rather than zip?

Answering my own question. It seems there is an issue when you want to use this app to install apk files:
http://www.aftvnews.com/tag/downloader
Here it says:
"""
The current 1.1.3 version of my*Downloader*app in the Amazon appstore is not compatible with the new*Amazon Fire TV 3. When you try to install an APK file within Downloader, the APK does not install and a message saying “No app found to handle this file” appears.
"""
The blog also says that an updated version of the app is supposed to fix this issue, but apparently it's still not properly working with version 1.1.7 I'm using.

Those previous issues have nothing to do with APK files being downloaded as ZIP files. The reason why some APK files don't get saved as APKs is because the server that the files are hosted on is incorrectly reporting the file type.
Enter the URL of the file you're downloading into this page: http://www.webconfs.com/http-header-check.php
That page shows what the server hosting the file is declaring about the file. The "Content-Type" header field is supposed to be "application/vnd.android.package-archive" for APK files. If it is not, then my app ends up saving the file as whatever the server tells it the file is. In your case, the server is telling the app that it is a ZIP file. Technically, the app is not doing anything wrong because it's trusting that the server is configured correctly, but I need to change it so that I don't always trust the server. I'll hopefully address this in the next version of the app.
Your best options until I fix this is to either host the file on a correctly configured server, or use another app, like ES File Explorer to either download the file or rename the file to .apk.

Question Unable to convert any app into system app (Rooted)

So I am rooted, got android lost installed, the app that offers some useful features in case your phone falls into wrong hands. However I've been struggling to convert the app onto a system app in order to prevent it being wiped out in case the unfriendly fellow performs a system wipe.
All attempts to convert this app and any other app into system app fails with error message 'no space on system storage' I've tried this using apps2sd, link2sd, root essentials and all failed annoyingly.
Is there any specific way to get this done on Android 11 on the OnePlus 9 series. I've had no issues doing this on my 7pro, 6T and OnePlus 8.
The op9 have dynamic partition with a where so far (system, vendor, system-ext) are write-protected. if you want to install an app as a system app you have to do it with magisk modul app systemizer and a therminal
That's extremely helpful. But after installing the module. Can you help with any specific method making an app a system app? I am kinda stuck on what to do after installing the module. Thanks a million.

Here's what happened. The Magisk module Systemize lost support from the original dev. You can no longer on Android 11 and up select the app from the list(because it doesn't list of does list but is random characters instead of names). HOWEVER, you can download the app APK from APKmirror.com or other sites, find the file path and copy it e.g. /sdcard/download/yourapp.apk go to Systemize in terminal by opening terminal and typing
Su
Systemize
(Select option 3) 3 - Systemize given apk
Paste the file path of the downloaded apk
Choose if you want system or priv-system
Voila

-install the app the normal way
-copy it's folder from data/app to somewhere you remember
-rename it to something clear with no space like "lost" (also rename the apk inside)
-uninstall the app
-open Mixplorer or any file explorer and give it root access
-go to system/app and paste that folder and give it 755 permission
-reboot
if still not work use the recovery file manager to paste on system/app (after mounting system)

System folder is read only. You use the Magisk module to Systemize. See my above post
