Unboxing
Packaging comes with: 1x HDMI Cable, 1x Power Supply (12V/3A) from Delta (major PSU OEM, great quality), 1x Wi-Fi Antenna, 1x Multi-Language Setup Guide, 1x Products Brochure and the Mini PC (of course).
No Air Mouse/Keyboard is included, neither the device has an IR Receiver (unlike its predecessor) so it can be only powered on using the physical power button, located on the left side.
Device
Minix’s design never changes, just like the NEO-U1 and NGC-1, also this one has the same Chassis Size (13.8x13.9x2.8cm), pretty compact and lightweight enough. Considering that the size is always the same, i won't show you again any measurement this time.
Here you can see it compared with the NGC-1
On the upper side only there is only Brand Logo with a black background, the whole chassis is black, no more dark-grey as on the NGC-1.
On the front side there is only Power LED, it turns Blue when the device is running. I do not notice any different color for the Standby state.
On the left, there is the Single Wi-Fi Antenna Connector (the internal Wi-Fi Adapter should supports maximum 1x1 RX/TX) and 1x Kensington Lock. As you might notice there is also an Hole, but i still have to find its usage.
On the right, there is the TF Card (Micro-SD) slot, 3x Standard USB 2.0 Ports, 1x Standard USB 3.0 Port and a Power Button. Compared to the NGC-1, there is an extra USB 2.0 port.
Just like on the NEO-U1, all USB Ports are well designed here, you won’t have any kind of problem even with big USB Sticks. Well Done Minix!
The rear features 1x Headphone/Microphone Jack (like Smartphones), 1x DisplayPort Connector, 1x HDMI port, 1x LAN 10/100/1000 port (Yes, Gigabit Ethernet), and 1x 5.5mm DC in.
On the lower side there isn’t anything important at all, absolutely clean.
Testing (Windows)
First of all, i won't test Linux on this device because: 1) It is using as SDIO Wi-Fi Card that doesn't work on Linux. 2) Atom CPUs are known to have issues on Linux, unless the manufacturer uses some special alternative hardware.
Minix provides a pre-installed, and genuine, Windows 10 Home distribution on this device, and on first boot you’ll need to configure everything just like a clean installation of Windows. No Third-Party apps are installed, completely clean.
The major question is always here, i don’t know why Minix choose to use the slower Intel Atom x5-z8300 instead of the x7-z8700, it would have provided a nice performance boost, and unfortunately the lack of performance this time is pretty noticeable.
It comes with a pretty rare Wi-Fi card (Broadcom BCM4345, SDIO variant) that should supports 2.4/5.0GHz Networks at a maximum speed of 433 Mbps. As regards its performance, it behaves quite well with my 2.4GHz WiFi Connection, but it wasn't able to see my 5.0GHz 802.11n Connection. Thanks to my intelligent VDSL internet provider that provides an 802.11n WiFi Router even for 100MBps Broadband Connections, i won't be able to show you any WiFi 802.11ac test.
UPDATE
In order to fix the 5.0GHz WiFi issue, it is necessary to update the WiFi driver by following the Minix Forum's guide. Pretty easy to follow, and fixes the bug i mentioned before. Thank you "Ken" from Minix.
Due to Windows Licensing issues, Minix had to use a 32GB eMMC instead of 64GB or higher, reducing the available storage to any additional software. Unfortunately this isn't replaceable, so you have to use an External HDD or MicroSD to avoid space issues. Anyway, it is made by Samsung and its speed is decent, comparable to other 32GB eMMCs. Without any software installed, only 13.1GBs are used.
USB 3.0 (and also 2.0) Performance is excellent, my Sandisk Ultra 64GB got maximum R/W speed, probably the only Mini PC together with the NGC-1 where I managed to get this speed. It is nice to see that Minix cares about USB Performance.
Benchmarks
I have used PCMark 8 (Home, Creative, Work, Storage), GeekBench 3 Pro (64-bit), CrystalDiskMark x64 (benchmarks provided before), x264 FHD Benchmark and CineBench (OpenCL & CPU) to stress the device in the most complete way.
PCMark 8
PCMark tests are the most complete ones, and their score isn't All tests have been run using the Native/Conventional mode in order to not accelerate any benchmark with OpenCL or anything like that. It is better to use the real Hardware Power.
Creative
Home
Storage
I wasn't able to complete this test, crashes everytime without any valid reason.
Microsoft Office
Work
GeekBench – CPU Performance is one of the fastest between all x5-z8300.
https://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/8124225
x264 Benchmark – This is a new-entry to my benchmarks list. Why i found this useful? Because it provides some data about the Video Encoding capabilities of this Mini PC.
CineBench – Another new-entry, this benchmark also provides some comparision values. What is interesting to see is the OpenCL test, it score is higher than the one made on a Core i5 with HD4000, but the CPU score is much lower though.
Summarazing all Benchmark Results, it is clear to say that this isn’t a device made for Gaming, but also some daily tasks such as Web Browsing suffers a bit.
Also, I have recorded Chassis and CPU temperature while running all benchmarks, including stress tests. (Ambient Temperature 23°C)
Yes, this CPU doesn't get hot at all.
Video Playback
I have tested the common Big Buck Bunny videos together with an Extra Samsung UHD video, available on every different format so that the device can be tested completely. I have used KODI to play these videos.
Stereoscopic 3D
Full HD (1920x1080 x2) 60 fps: Smooth, no issues.
Full HD (1920x1080 x2) 30 fps: Smooth, no issues.
4K 3D Videos have been skipped, this device isn't powerful enough to play such videos.
Standard 2D
480p HD (854x480) 24 fps: Smooth, no issues.
720p HD (1280x720) 24 fps: Smooth, no issues.
Full HD (1920x1080) 60 fps: Smooth, no issues.
Full HD (1920x1080) 30 fps: Smooth, no issues.
Full HD (1920x1080) 24 fps: Smooth, no issues.
4K, Quad-Full-HD (3840x2160) 60 fps: Smooth, sometimes stutters but only if you use KODI menus.
4K, Quad-Full-HD (3840x2160) 30 fps: Smooth, no issues.
Samsung Ultra HD 4K 60 fps 10-bit (EXTREME TEST): Completely messed up, pixelated, laggy and causes the CPU to load at 100%

Conclusions
This Mini-PC should have been configured in a better way, Minix choose to use an already outdated CPU that shows its lack of performance even on some basic daily tasks. It's a pity because we are in the Q3 of 2016 where Minix could have choosen something newer such as the Atom x5-z8350 or anything more powerful. Anyway, i'm not saying that this isn't a good device, its primary usage (Video Playback) is still perfect, and some basic tasks can be managed without major issues, but you can't expect a super-smooth experience.
So….do I recommend it? Well...this is an hard question. If you want the best x5-z8300 Mini PC available on the market then Ok, i can recommend it, this is the most complete available with this CPU, but if you need more performance i highly recommend you to choose the Minix NGC-1 or any other device that with a better CPU.

My review Tronsmart ARA x5 PLUS
Here is the release of the New ARA X5 Plus Cherry Trail z8300 2/32 GB
Much the same Spec as previous model with a few improvements
Obvious is the external Wifi Antenna.
Feels a little heaver than previous model more on this later.
At first switch on, Windows 10 location login and pretty quick
A few other settings to be setup, asked for wifi connections done.
A bit of an online update reboot and we are in Windows 10.
So a few more updates and install some apps wifi speed 5g good.
Ara X5 plus seems snappy no lag at present, while doing first scan with Defender,
Windows update while installing other apps performing well for a 2/32 GB unit.
While typing and sorting out images the Unit has done the updated.
Being windows 10 all will be pretty much the same a few torture test later to see any improvements.
Ok let's get inside and have a look see.
So we now have the PCB sandwiched between 2 pieces of alloy block that will be great as you can see by post 1 (forgot to take a new one)
Also an extra block on the underside to the cutout base area of CPU excellent this will keep it thermally maintained.
You can see the Wifi is a plugin module and we have the External and Internal so coverage is improved and good.
Also removal of the tin lid, Heat sink has good direct contact to CPU with thermal Pad
Note sure the rating of the Pink Thermal may alter at a later date if required
We have the new improved Battery ? And also a Reset Button yet to see if it does good or bad.
Look at the OS system.
Previous Model Tronsmart ARA X5 ram Test
Tronsmart ARA X5 PLUS Tests
As you can see by the Stress test, the idle is around the 50c jumps up to 75c and pretty much sits there without complaining to much.
You will also note that Ram Speed is much improved over the previous model
Previous Model had a Bench test of around 570 so a little improvement has to be good.
Current Free space after doing all updates and removing old version etc 1115 as of the 2nd March easy up date.

Installing Openelec on Tronsmart ara x5 plus, as HDMI Audio in Linux is Working
Tronsmart and their developers have implemented HDMI Audio Output under Linux kernel 4.4/4.5 and released Openelec.
Now you can enjoy both Windows or OpenElec on Ara X5 Plus.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjOn-KA_oZU&feature=youtu.be
Audio output works great via HMDI cable and speaker jack(system->setting-system->audio output->audio output devices, choose USB Audio device)
Now Openelec can let Ara X5 Plus as great media player.
Tronsmart checked 10bit, [email protected] ,3D ISO,
Blu Ray ISO, AC3/DTS 5.1 pass through etc, all works amazing also WiFi and Ethernet working,
You can enjoy Add-ons from Kodi too.

The AC3/DTS 5.1 pass through dont work on hdmi!!!
On hdmi we can have only 2.0 sound!!
With 10bit, [email protected] there is no way. only software decoding to 1080 works with low bitrate, but now way to get 4K 10bit.
How do you get the micro SD card to stay inserted in the Tronsmart ARA X5 Plus ? It beats me...
and the reson for the new BIOS update ?

My Vorke V1 also has arrived. Amazing little computer. It supports 2560x1440 Pixels over HDMI 1.4 what is great.
What is quite interesting though, the Intel Celeron J3160 is supporting up to 2.24 GHz in Turbo Mode (but according to the Intel specification, the CPU does not seem to offer Turbo Mode). Very strange but as long as the little computer can do better than mentioned in the specs, fine with me.
The 4GB RAM is no shabby one either, it is a PC3-12800 (800MHz) one also made in my case by A-Data Technology, same as shown in the previous posts. Vorke seem to pick quality components and this is great to know, too.
And all this for 199 USD including the Windows 10 Home Premium 64 bit OS, that is quite a steal. What also impresses me is the quiet fan. There is a constant wooosh coming from the little box, nothing annoying at all not disturbing (less annoying than a notebook fan), no high pitched speed changes, nothing to worry about, simply a constantly spinning and almost quiet fan, this is much better than expected and also a very pleasant surprise.
Would I recommend the Vorke V1? Yes, absolutely, solid, low noise and good performance, perfect for home office and as a surf station, simply great. This is, by the way, also a great little computer for people on a budget. Add a screen, even an old VGA one, a mouse and a keyboard and off you go. Perfect, also for countries that could not afford high priced hardware e.g. in a class room configuration.
What I also noticed regarding the power supply, mine came with a completely different lyangel AC adapter, model LY036SPS-120300W3, rated at 12V 3A. The power supply does not get hot at all.

Do you manage to use the infrared receiver ? I didn't find anything under windows neither linux...

Hi!
Has anyone done some Fan Mod on this? the tiny fan can get a bit loud for using it as a quite mediacenter, and for now I just opened the bottom and place the box under a big laptop cooling fan.
I was wondering if anyone already tried to put a 120mm fan on the bottom.

Onda V820w CH DualOS - Win 10/Android 5.1 - Intel Cherry Trail Z8300 tablet Review

The Onda V820w CH DualOS is an 8-inch, dual boot tablet PC, that runs both Windows 10 (64 bit) and Android 5.1 Lollipop. The “CH” in this model's name denotes a Cherry Trail Atom Z8300, Intel's latest 14nm, low power SoC processor. There are other Onda tablets with similar names, but the majority of them have the older 22nm Intel Bay Trail processors. Most are either single OS Windows 10 models, or have Android 4.4 Kit Kat as their second operating system.

I have been testing this tablet for over a week, and it works incredibly well. The 8” IPS screen touch screen is very responsive, and has a resolution of 1280x800 pixels (WXGA). While 160dpi isn't “retina” level resolution, pictures and text, appear sharp and colorful. I have read some older reviews for Onda V820w variants complaining about the dull screen. The company must have upgraded the original panel, because the unit I received is bright, colorful and looks great off-angle. The capacitive touch screen supports 10 point multi-touch.
Movies can be played in high definition, and the Cherry Trail's 8th generation Intel integrated HD Graphics supports DirectX 11.2 and a second display using MicroHDMI. The GPU is roughly 40% faster than the 7th generation HD Graphics (Bay Trail) and can handle many Windows video games. The GPU also supports 4K/H.265 video acceleration.
The System on Chip (SoC) Intel x5-Z8300 processor is the slowest of the Cherry Trail family, but it ranked towards the top of the 2015 heap, and still provides plenty of power for a tablet. I ran the AnTuTu benchmark app under Android and received a composite score of 59,241.
The tablet's audio capabilities are sufficient for normal, everyday use. The small, mono speaker located on the lower rear of the case will not fill a room with sound, but provides acceptable dynamic range and loudness to watch a short video or understand human speech without sounding strange or tinny. Watching a full-length movie or playing music really requires use of the headphone jack or a Bluetooth audio solution.
The downside of having a DualOS system is the need to divide the 32GB eMMC ROM into multiple partitions. The Android system is left with only 4GB for its OS and apps. The Windows 10 partition winds up with around 21GB of storage. The remaining 7GB of space is taken up with multiple recovery partitions for both OS environments. File storage can be easily augmented by adding a MicroSD card, but this won't help much with Android app space that can be easily overloaded. The Android OS is available for applications that aren't offered in the Windows 10 store, otherwise most users will consider Windows their primary operating system.
Using Windows 10 on the tablet is fairly simple. While using the standard desktop, there is a keyboard icon on the taskbar for typing and data entry. Alternatively, “Tablet Mode” may be selected, which switches to The Windows 10 Tile UI, and the keyboard is automatically popped up as required. One huge benefits of using Windows 10, instead of Android, is the ability to share files and printers with other PC's on a home or office network. Microsoft has left enough networking options in Windows 10 home that anyone should be able to setup a workable and secure network.
The Onda V820w CH DualOS weighs 335g, or just under 12oz. The case is all plastic, with a concentric circle “fingerprint” pattern on the back cover to reduce slippage. There is a flush “Windows” button along the lower edge that serves double duty as the Home Screen button in Android. Along the top right side are the on/off button and volume rocker. The upper left side contains the TF card slot. The top edge has the Micro USB, Micro HDMI and 3.5mm headphone jacks.
The are 1.9MP cameras at the top, front and back. These is no flash LED on either side, and the cameras work best in well lit situations. Unfortunately, there is no provision for using the camera modules to automatically control screen dimming.
The WiFi is provided by a 2.4GHz Broadcom SDIO 802.11bgn chip. The SDIO interface limits maximum speeds to 100 mbps. Bluetooth 4.0 is included as well.
The only other electronic feature is a motion/gravity sensor that allows automatic screen rotation. There is no GPS, or even WiPS/WFPS location functionality. Any applications that require location must settle for manually entered zip codes or addresses.
Overall, the Onda V820w CH DualOS is a great value. It out performs most Chinese MediaTek based Android tablets around the same price point, and offers dual OS versatility.
Gearbest is currently offering the Onda V820w CH DualOS for $82.36 with free shipping

Performance
The Mini S rocks an Intel Celeron N5095 chip, which is built on 10nm process, with typical Thermal Design Power of 15 W. This chipset has 4 CPU cores, 4 processing threads working at 2 GHz (Turbo 2.9 GHz), and an integrated UHD GPU working at 650MHz. The N5095 SoC. is featured in lots of mini PCs and entry-level laptops. It is definitely not a powerhouse, but should be capable enough for most people’s everyday computing duties. My review unit comes with 8GB memory, as well as a 256GB SATA3 SSD, but Beelink does offer other configurations for you to choose from.
Benchmarks
In the cross-platform Geekbench 5, the Mini S scored 645 in CPU single core, 2017 in multi core, and 2117 in OpenCL. Those are typical numbers for the N5095 processor.
In the Cinebench R20 CPU-crunching test, the Mini S got 234 in single core, and 787 in multi-core.
Running it through PCMark10, my review unit got 2,339 points. This is actually on the higher end of the performance rating, compared to other budget mini PCs I’ve tested.
Beelink doesn’t sell the Mini S in barebone, so all units will come with an SSD. The speed of the 256GB SSD in my unit is pretty standard for an M.2 SATA3 SSD, nothing exciting here. Still, it is fast enough to guarantee that booting into Windows 11 takes only a few seconds.
Daily computing
The Mini S was fairly capable for dealing with mainstream daily computing tasks. I could open a dozen content-heavy webpages in Microsoft Edge, play a 4K video, and edit my presentation in PowerPoint at the same time, without noticing any hiccups or delays.
Obviously, there are occasions where the Mini S wouldn’t make sense, like editing 4K footages from your professional DSLR, or designing complex artwork, but for lightweight creativity tasks such as editing photos in Photoshop and making a short video in for your TikTok channel, this would work great.
HTPC
This mini PC could also make a perfect HTPC or media center. According to DXVA checker, the UHD Graphics GPU is able to decode most video formats up to 4K, some even up to 8K. I’ve played many UHD Blu-Ray movies on the Mini S and enjoyed perfectly smooth playback.
Streaming videos online was a similar story. When I was playing an 4K/60FPS YouTube video in Chrome, neither the CPU nor the GPU was stressed too much. Streaming 8K/60FPS videos could be challenging for the Mini S, as I noticed frequent frameskip during the playback, since this mini PC doesn't really support 8K output, there's no point in doing that anyway.
Gaming
One of the areas where the Mini S didn’t do very well was gaming, as the integrated Intel UHD GPU isn’t really designed for graphics-intensive duties, and single-channel memory sort of made things worse. In 3DMark, the Mini S scored 2356 in Sky Diver, 606 in Fire Strike and 206 in Time Spy, falling behind the Beelink’s very own U59, which features the same processor, but has dual-channel memory.
LOL, which was quite smooth on the Beelink U59 at 1080P and medium settings, was just playable on the Mini S. The average frame rate was 44 fps, and I noticed some frameskip in intense battle scenes. Turning the resolution down to 720P could improve the average frame rate to 79 fps, but some of the fine details could become just a little too blurry on a large desktop monitor.
If you only play simpler, more casual games like Angry Birds, Plant vs Zombies, or games installed from Microsoft Store, then you obviously have nothing to worry about.
Power consumption and noise
This mini PC is very energy-efficient, as power consumption is at only 10 watts idle and 24 watts on max load. The Mini S stayed quiet most of the time, I could watch online videos for hours without hearing any noise from it. The cooling fan did spin up when the Mini S was under heavy workloads, but it was neither too loud nor too annoying.
The Mini S was also very stable. In the AIDA64 stability test, the temperature of the four CPU cores stayed below 90 degrees in 1 hour of running at full load.
Thank You jupiter2012

On to Windows
Installed we have Win11 Pro.
Startup is typical new Computer all the Questions, where are you, and agree with what you will.
Bit of an update, and more questions..
Then another reset and yep you guessed it more questions.
Part of the deal of a new PC and Windows.
The Trigkey Speed 3 should have no issues running Linux either installed or from a USB stick.
Most if not all of thee mini PC's have become pretty good Bang for the buck.
If you need a small footprint PC that can do Most its really no No Brainer.
They can do a job with ease, sure they're not a beast for high end power.
They can do Most media files, all the social games and most hobby orientated things.
If you dont need a HIGH end Desktop PC with sqiudabytes of Ram and Video Card etc this is for you.
Home Office, something for Homework, Media server, Netflix and a like piece of cake really.
Lets have a quick look around.
As the hardware is pretty good, and Windows being Windows it will just work with most things.
As with Linux and good all in one small form factor unit.
Again it depends on the need of the user.
Will have a quick look at what it has and some of the settings.
Nothing set just Booted, what you see it what you get.
On to Windows
So after all the Questions:
What we have:
All Good here:

Few things to Download and updates, should not take that long.
Bit of Info about what's going on with Hardware Info
