tab s 10.5 charging extremely slowly - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

even after replacing battery and charger. Takes 1 hour to charge 1% . this problem started few days ago:crying:any help?

Have you tried an new cable and charger, and check your charging port is clean.
Have you had any flickering on the screen, if so you might have a bad battery connection.
John.

Had the same problem, replaced the battery without success as well. Had to replace the charging port and it's been working perfectly ever since.

yh i to have replaced the battery still no success. yh most likely a faulty port.

This has just started happening to me. Sometimes it gets so bad that it dies on the charger.

I have had my T800 2 years tomorrow and the battery is fine, I use an magnetic microusb adapter so no port wear.
How long have you guy`s had your S1 before you started having problem with the battery? also do you game or use any apps that eat the battery or get the tablet hot as that is really bad for the battery.

i brought my t805 in july 2015. i hardly use it, as i use my nexus 9 which is way faster and easy to carry. i basically didn't use the tab s for a week or 2 and then when i plugged it on charge, it was taking forever to charge, so... :/
i ordered a flex cable from ebay for just £
5, it includes the usb port as well as the sd slot. Will be replacing that, hopefully it will fix the issue.

I wonder if the battery went flat while you were not using it, was it turned off or just in sleep/standby mode.
John.

haha no its not the battery as i have already replaced it with a new battery and still the same. i think it was turned off.

so how long does it take you guys to fully charge your t800/t805 from 0 to 100% while the device is powered off?

From what i have read around 5 hours for the 10.5" for a full charge when in sleep mode, maybe a 4.5 hours when powered off.
But charging speed depends on an compatible charger and quality usb cable, full charge current is 1.75 amps according to my usb power meter on my T800

hmm, because mine takes 3 hours to charge 18%. eventhough am using a note 5 fast charger and also tried it with official tab s charger too no luck.????
the usb ribon arrived yesterday, so replaced it. still no difference.:crying:

Have you tried more than one usb cable, as it make a BIG difference, like 0.5amp vs 1.7amp you can have the best charger in the world but if your cable is faulty or poor quality.
Your battery could be bad (how long have you had your tablet?), or your battery power connector could be loose/faulty(mostly 8.4" S1), or you microusb port could have become faulty.
Also if you use a third-party charger it has to talk to your tablet in an language it understand or you tablet will charge slowly, there are a number of different charger languages Samsung has a different one to Apple, or HTC that is why an Apple charger might only charge your Samsung tablet slowly.
I recommend everybody gets an "usb power meter/monitor" they only cost around $10 and it allows you to see straight away how much power you tablet is taking from you usb charger and some brands can trick you tablet into charging at full speed on an Apple charger, I bought an Belkin 2.4amp charger and it was only charging my T800 at 900ma, I changed a setting on my usb power meter and now my T800 is charging at 1750ma

Hello
After suffering slow charging, like 700 or little more ma Controlled by 3ctoolbox, Im now using a rampow nilon braided micro USB câble.
Now allways charging first at 1750 ma and fall ingénieur slowly from 80% to 100%, like a charging perfect mode must be.
The câble was baught at Amazon and work fine untill now. Verry small prize and quality.

surprisingly i tried charging it with a cheap 3rd party cable and it has charged 48% in 2 hours whilst it was powered off, so it should take just around 4 hours to charge 100%.
when compared to the other 2 official Samsung chargers which charged more like 10% in 2 hours. quite strange results

Your tab will charge at full speed approx 1.75amp from 0% to 80% and then the charge rate will get lower and lower as it get`s closer to 100%
So the first 80% charges the fastest and then last 20% takes a lot longer.
EDIT: 80% of an 7900mah battery is 6320mah So it should take approx 4hrs to charge from 0% to 80% with an 10% charge efficiency

10 hours to recharge phone ??????????

Can anyone tell me why it takes so long to recharge my phone ?
I use a charger cable from my computer (usb) to phone while at work --- then I also use it at home too.
Is it only the wall charger that does it fast ? not USB/laptop/computer ?
Last night it took me 10 hours (phone was on but I didn't touch it for 10 hours - internet/wifi/3g was OFF)
why does it take 10 hours ?
Is something wrong with the phone? battery? or is it the charger ?
USB only has a small amount of current that goes through it. Enough to power small USB devices and no more. I believe it's around 500mAH. But your phone is always drawing power, so the excess is what actually charges your battery. Your wall charger is 1000mAH which means there is plenty of current to charge your battery even with heavy usage.
Tl;dr: USB is weak and 10hrs is normal. Wall charger is much more powerful and faster.

damn thanks for the great reply.
Further more, I was at my friends house once, and he has a black berry (same charger as my SGS3) and he passed me this cord to charge and it honestly charged the entire phone from 5% to 90% in like less than an hour...
not sure wtf this was but is it possible ? is it bad for the phone ? for the battery ?
10 hours is not normal. And the average wall charger that comes with your phone is 750mAH, not 1000. The 1000mAH chargers are quick charge ones.
The fact that the blackberry charger worked well on your S3 tells me that you should get a new charger.
where does one find one of the quick chargers to buy ? (1000mAH)
you can find all sorts of chargers on amazon. you can find inexpensive ones at walmart too. i would recommend buying a samsung charger for your samsung phone. hold onto the one that came with your S3, even if it takes forever to charge. just use it to connect to your pc for file transferring, odin, etc.
Even though charging quickly seems good but if you can afford the time then use the one you already have z charging too quickly affects your battery health negatively , a slow charger will make sure your battery stays healthy for a long time , mind it by slow I mean a 750 mAH one not a faulty one in case yours is faulty .

The S3 charger is 1000mAH. I have two of them that came with my phones. And anytime I connect my phone to my computer I can leave it connected for hours and only charge a few percent. This phone just draws a lot of power.

thats interesting because i have 4 samsung chargers. 2 came with my old S2's and 2 came with my 2 S3's. the output on all 4 is 700mAH. i got robbed. of course, connected to a PC the output is max 500. even at that, i still get a better charge than a few percent when connected to a PC for hours.

[Q] Battery takes long to charge

I just got a t-mobile version of the S4 and I'm loving it, but I noticed it is very very slow to charge.
Aside from light to medium usage i didn't touch it much between last night and today. I had it plugged in and charging via USB, but it maybe charged about 40-45% in 6+ hours. My old phone (LG G2X) never took this long to charge.
More Info;
This was using the Stock T-mobile Rom
I have since rooted and installed CM10 nightly on the phone, It appears to suffer the same issue
Between 9:27 to 10:00 it went from 67% to %74, My LG went from %39 -%56 in about 20 minutes. By those quick number it will take 7 hours to charge the S4 while only 3 to fully charge the g2x
Is this normal? is there anything i can do to fix/test or alleviate this?

The question for you is the source? If you plugged it into your compy, it will take forever as standard compy USB ports (USB 2.0) provide only about 500 mA. The stock S4 charger is 2 Amps.
The fix, plug the phone into the wall using your stock charger. If it is still slow, it is probably your battery. Good luck.
Make sure to use the charger that it came with. Ever since I started using the stock charger my battery charges fast. Also it could be your plug so test it with another just in case.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium HD app
Yup it was the charger, I have chargers pretty much where ever i go so i just used those. With the stock one it works great but i ran into another issue. I plugged it in and it was taking a really long time to charge with the stock charger, something like 3% in 30 minutes. I had to unplug and plug in the cable again and it charged normally.
Is this something I should worry about?
It could be possible that the cable was not properly seated in the phone, or the charger end was not properly seated in the wall cube. I wouldn't lose sleep over it unless it happens often. Could be a phone problem, but sounds like a one off to me.
Yea my lady like to use my charger with her HTC phone because it "charges faster". The S4 stock charger has the highest amp rating and provides juice at the highest rate to any device. :good:

There are a few factors here.....
1. The charger itself. The original Samsung is a 2A charger. If you use a different one (most are only 1A) it will take twice as long to charge.
2. The USB Cable. Believe it or not, not all cables are the same. With the standard charger and cable you will be able to charge @ 1900mA. Less then 2 hours to fully charge a completely dead battery. But.... plugging some USB cables into the standard charger will limit the charge down to just 600mA.... taking 3x_ longer to charge.
3. The other is the kernel. If you're using a newer custom kernel Samsung has limited to a max of 1200mA with the screen on & full 1900mA with the screen off.
Lastly, you can download an app on the playstore called Galaxy Charging Current. This will show you the charging rate should you want to test your setup.

This man speaks the truth. I use CurrentWidget and set to manual update. Whenever I'm testing cables/chargers, I plug in a known good cable (charges at 1900) to see what the charger is putting out. I do the same with a known good charger (2A - iPad and S4) and test the cables

How long does it take to charge z1c using usb on laptop?

Hi, it's taking a really long time to charge my z1 compact using the usb port on my laptop (macbook air 2010).
It's been an hour and i'm at 27%.
Is this normal?
Also, is quickcharge 2.0 enabled on our phones? Would it make usb charging from a laptop faster? (I think mine is just 0.5 A, whatever Apple gives you).
Not sure on laptops but on my PC I could charge it for 3 hours to 100%.... While on dock I could charge it like 50minutes and it's full. Quickcharge 2.0 works only on chargers with quickcharge 2.0 support. Hence it won't work on laptops. And it's alot more slower since laptops has lower current output on USB ports than usual outlet chargers.

i charge using the dock an it fully charged my Z1c at least 3 hours. how can u fully charged yours at 50 minutes only?
I guess it depends on what you plug the dock into. I haven't timed it but I'm pretty sure mine charges from about 40% to 100% in under an hour. I plug the dock into a usb power adapter.

Returning to the op's question, if I connect the phone to my macbook pro and then close the lid, the phone stops charging immediately. It charges just fine if I leave the lid open. I only tried it once overnight so I don't know how long it took to fully charge.

Charger suplied with my z1c is EP880.
About 2hrs20minutes from 5% to full battery.
And i think that is good, charging full battery in 50minutes isnt good for battery health.
Same as yours also... EP880. It says here output is 5.0VDC and 1500mAh. I'm pretty sure the battery is ok as it's holding a 2-3 day lifespan before I can drain it to lower 10%. Although I'm no power user. I mostly use the phone for texting and web surfing... The most battery hog usage I can do is reflashing ROMs in recovery which could deduct 1 to 4% of battery after reboot. Our electricity standards here are 220v of current.

Nice shot Riyal.
Same battery/charger/phone but 250% faster charging?
Thats a riddle for sure, laws of physics says that one of factors in equation must be different.
I suggest you to check yours battery in service centre.
2300mAh (healthy) battery can be charged with stronger charger in 50 minutes, ofcourse that isnt good for her longevity.
But with ours EP850 charger thats impossible, battery or electronics inside phone must be messed up.
Calculating with an output of 500mA from an USB 2.0 port, the charging time (0 -> 100%) will result in approximately 5hours. (Note that the battery is normally never at 0mAh)

Nah no need... I'm pretty sure battery is ok as whenever I charge it on my PC it's charging slow also like any other phones. So I think this is just really qualcomm's quickcharge 2.0 kicking in... Anyways I observed the phone. It's not heating up or whatever probably it's just because of the battery quality. It must be having good chemical reaction when charging hence less waste on energy.

Yours phone is .114 firmware also?
Well, something must be different, my phone and others are charging 2 or more hrs on EP880.
Found something interesting...
I have a energy monitor (http://www.elv.at/elv-energy-master-basic-energiekosten-messgeraet-1.html) between EP880 charger and the wall outlet.
If I use the usb cable EC801 (witch comes with Xperia Z1C) on my dk32 dock, the e-mon. shows about 7.5W energy consumption @~50% battery level !
If I use the usb cable EC450 (witch comes with my Xperia P) on my dk32 dock, the e-mon. shows about 5W energy consumtion @~50% battery level !
Conclusion: Phone charges much more faster with EC801 !
I like the older cable because its much more flexible then the new one - so that's the reason I used the old one and than I saw the differences on the measurement device....
FYI: Charging power is also depended on battery level -
Whats yours charging times (from 5-100%)?
Mine 2hrs-2hrs 20min.
I have EC-801 cable and DK31 dock with hims factory cable, same charging times on both.

[Q] Battery problems: not charging when in use

My 12.2 Tab Pro loses about 10% charge for every hour in use: about right, I think. It takes about an hour to charge about 10% when not in use: rather slow in my opinion.
When I am using my Tab while connected to the mains, it will not charge. In fact, it loses about the same amount as when it is not being charged.
Using in this context is reading books (Kindle), reading newspapers (PresReader) and web browsing.
I have tried USB 3 and USB 2 plugged into a mains plug, and USB 2 directly connected to a mains plug. I have tried different cables and plugs. They all behave similarly.
Should it not charge when in use?
Are you using the Samsung charger and cable that came with your tablet?

Amongst others, yes.
I have same problem with mine. Battery can die super quick from 100%, then a restart shows it with 60% (as example) battery. Are you rooted? I've seen others with similar problems, but no answers. Thinking of sending back to get fixed

Mine doesn't take an hour to charge 10%. You probably have a defective unit.
If it takes an hour to charge 10% using the stock cable and charger, there's a hardware fault somewhere, be it your cable, charger or the tablet itself.

USB ports do not provide enough current to charge these devices. I understand that, when on, the power drain exceeds input from USB sources. I use AC with adapters rated at 2 A. I also have a car charger with that current rating that plugs into the car lighter. USB ports, whether in computers, cars, or airport lobbies are useless.
If you are using wall plug rated at 2A and are not charging, then one of the 3 components is bad (charger, cable, or phone).

I bought my Tab pro 8.4 in June 2014. I use it about an hour each day and charge it when the charge drops below 30 percent.
Recently I have noticed, it takes all night to charge. This should not happen. my Ipod touch charges in less than 1 hour and its an old version 3, (6 years old or more)..
I am using the wall plug that came with the unit, to charge it. It should not be taking 12 hours.
This seems to be a problem with these 8.4's.
there are a number of possible causes: bad battery, port, charger, power source, too many apps .... you might want to read this guide on how to fix an Android phone that doesn’t charge (or discharges) when connected to a power source to help you identify the cause and fix it

I have the exact same issue with My Galaxy Note Pro. It will not charge while in use and the battery drains extremely fast even with most all settings turned off and screen brightness turned down. I turn the tablet off every night to charge and the charging speed is extremely slow. I am using all Samsung OEM cables and chargers. Ive tried USB 2 & 3 cables with no noticeable difference. I am going to do a factory wipe and then closely monitor the power useage. Im starting to think that there is an issue with the Note Pro based on the sheer amount of users reporting the same or similar problems.
If anyone has figured out the culprit behind this issue, please pass it along!
Battery indication issues
I have the same problem with charging the Note Pro 8.4.
After some investigation and multiple tries it seems very much that the reported battery level is not in line with "reality".
It happened numerous times that while the tablet was on and charging, the battery level did not go up or only 1% every hour or so. After reboot the reported battery level was much higher.
I decided to throw some apps from the tablet which vastly improved the battery level indication and more or less seem to work as expected. I know from previous experiences with my Note 2 that some apps/widgets can wreak havoc on very basic functionality like charging. For example the stock picture frame widget on the old Note 2 had the effect the charging icon did not update. After reboot of the phone it was much better. Removing the widget solved the problem.
All in all carefully check installed apps/widgets on the Note Pro (8.4) because the firmware does not seem to cope well with certain apps/widget combination whatever that may be...

Slow Charging?

I have noticed that my phone charges super slow. A few times, while only surfing the web, my battery % went down while plugged into a wall charger. With the phone off, it would charge about 1% every 2 minutes. Surfing the web this morning for 15 minutes made absolutely no difference in battery %. I started when it reached 63% and 15 minutes later it was still 63%. I am using my old HTC charger, which was super fast with gs3. I dont know what the deal is. Can anyone do some testing? Screen brightness was at 50% while browsing.
Thanks

What's the amperage of the charger? Might not be enough for the G3 and its monster screen. The charger it comes with (based on what I'm seeing online) is 1.8 Amps.

I'd double-check that if I were you. It should be much higher than that otherwise (as you're seeing ) it would take forever to charge the battery. I believe the Optimus G Pro was 2.1 A so I think the 1.8 A I was seeing online sounds about right for the G3.

Ill doble check after work. I ordered a few new charging cables, one is 22awg charge only and the other is 24awg charge/sync. Maybe getting a few extra chargers would be a good idea. Does it matter if i get anything above 1.8A?
First thing to test would be trying the lg oem wall charger with the stock cable that came in the box. if it still doesn't charge properly then I would do a factory reset. I remember this issue when the N5 first came out and a factory reset fixed it
I got so many cables that in not sure which one came with the phone. I did get 2.1A charger just a bit ago.

I'm using the one from my G Pro (2.1A) and haven't had any problems with this phone or my last. Charge times are great and it's got a nice long cable.
The factory one is 1.8A which means it will take less than 2 hours to go from 0 to 100%. This however is dependent on what the phone is being used for during rid time. I've used a 2.0A charger without issue and both work fast. So if my math is correct to go from 0 to 100% will take ~100 minutes, thus 1.8A => ~30mah is charged per minute.
EDIT:
Also I checked on qualcomms website, and the max input rate SD801 SOC can charge at is 2.0A
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have a lot of issues charging with different cables and USB power sources. The stock cable works best on the stock charger, but also charges very fast on my Asus ultrabook with USB3.0 ports designed for charging.
Using basic cables in my car or on various other chargers/power packs, I get HORRID charge times. Do we need to get special cables or what? I bought a 2-amp charger from Sprint, and that cable also works wonderfully. Though for some reason the stock LG cable + 2.1-amp charger in my car can BARELY increase my battery % while driving. I have GPS and data running the whole time.
What concerns me is when I first bought the phone, it would charge just fine on ALL of my cables and power sources. It's like it got more picky over time, and I fear it's from that janky USB connection. The port seems offset, just as many others have reported here.

Have you ever figured out the slow charging issue? This is killing me. I love my G3 but I'm really considering selling it.
My phone is plugged up and it showed 19%, somehow it dropped down to 18%.

I used the OEM LG USB cord with my girlfriend's Galaxy S5 charging brick and it seems to work amazing. I guess the real culprit is the OEM charging brick from LG.

That wasn't the case with me. The original charger was the only one that can charge at 1.8a. All 2.1a that I got weren't even close. I bought 2 more g2 chargers and 3 kopi wires. Now there no issues. I want to try kopi wall charger. So far, their cords and car chargers are the only that actually work well.
I timed mine the other day and it charges a just over 1% per minute so slightly quicker than my Oneplus One and a fair bit quicker than my M8 all using their own chargers that came with the phones.

No. Simple math, 3000 / 1800 = 1.7. So 1.7 hours is the absolute minimal charging time, without any losses, which you will always have.
Also 80 minutes is simply impossible.
