Possible to Sideload Security Updates - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

I'm thinking of taking my AT&T Note 5 to StraightTalk to save some money. From what I've read I'll no longer be able to receive the "monthly" security updates if I'm not on the network any more. If this is the case, is there any way I could download them and side load like we all did with the MM update?
This is my first carrier branded phone after a Nexus 5 and a Galaxy Nexus, so being locked to a carrier is a whole new/horrible world to me.

Yes is is possible . You will loose all your data , but if you ok with this let me know what is your build?
If you never download anything from AT&T server you need to read more. I can do it for you just need to know about your build.

I have the same question - unlocked my at&t note 5 and am using cricket. I went through ODIN to get to 6.0.1, but my company requires a more recent android security patch. While it's a bummer to have to once again factory wipe my dang phone, I'm happy to give it a try. Do you have any links on how to download from AT&T server - I always get forbidden (and have tinkered with useragent settings with no luck). Thanks!!!

[Q] OE1 Update / Odin Back

So I have read alot about how to downgrade from 5.0.X to lower versions of android to4.4.2 and 4.4.4 just isnt possible. Well, I made it happen tonight. It took 3 days to figure it out and I will gladly share how i accomplished this, and upload all the files. I didnt mess with the boot loader because frankly, I dont know how. Everything was done through ODIN as well.
But I am in need of help/ questions answered first.
My phone is 100% paid off, and I am 100% paid in full with sprint so it was my understanding as of FEB of this year upon request they HAD to SIM unlock my phone per my request... So here are my questions
1 - If i flash AT&T roms, or any other carrier ROM over to my sprint note 4, will my phone still function properly? And if it will, does that give me a better shot at getting the phone away from INVALID SIM error and putting in my MSL code.
2- is it really NOT possible to domestic unlock a phone from sprint with android L? if not, why would sprint tell me they could domestic unlock my phone?
3- I have been given my MSL, been told by sprint my phone is unlocked, and cannot get a prompt to enter the MSL so I can keep my note4 when i move to a new carrier. All I keep seeing when i put the SIM card into my note 4 is "INVALID SIM" , I have seen the SSU unlock APK and tried to use it but the lowest version of android i can find is 4.4.4 for the note 4, and SSU states it only works on 4.4.2 and lower.
Can anyone help me get this stupid thing domestic unlocked?
OK here is the issue if I understand correctly.
You want to unlock your phone Sprint has provided you the unlock code.....
Since the Phone was shipped with 4.42 or 4.44 depending when you go it ........ that means you will need to be in that Android version for it to work not running lollipop(5.x)..... Then :
Switch off your Galaxy Note 4.
Take out its battery.
Pull the Sprint SIM card out of the slot.
Insert a new SIM from a different wireless carrier in the SIM slot.
Place the battery back in the mobile.
Power on the phone.
When prompted, type the unlock code that you received from Sprint.
It will complete and you are done

Sprint's policy for DSU (Domestic SIM unlock) is phones *launched* after Feb 2015 will be eligible. Unfortunately, as the Note 4 launched last year, it is not eligible for DSU. The MSL code allows you to edit the APNs to go to another CDMA carrier., but will not unlock the SIM slot for domestic use.
Sorry.
Sprint will unlock a device from Sprint's network under the following circumstances:
Any associated Service Agreement, Installment Billing Agreement, or Lease Agreement has been fulfilled including payment in full of any applicable early termination fees or end-of-lease purchase options
The associated account is in good standing
The device has not been reported as lost or stolen, associated with fraudulent activity, or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
Generally, if you have a device that was launched prior to February 2015 and it is capable of being unlocked, Sprint will provide a bill notification and/or text message when you are eligible to have your device unlocked. The bill notification will direct you to Sprint Customer Care who can assist in efforts to unlock your device.
For domestic SIM unlockable ("DSU") devices launched after February 2015, Sprint will automatically unlock the device when it becomes eligible.
For inactive devices, customers must contact Sprint Customer Care to request that their DSU-capable device be unlocked and may have to take steps to perform an over-the-air update to ensure the unlock programming has been relayed to the device.
The note 4 is capable of being unlocked. Sprints policy is they AUTOMATICALLY unlock them if it was launched after FEB 2015.
Now, can you tell us how to Odin backwards from OE1?
thanks
Can't I'd back wait til oe3 is out I made the mistake and paid the price

Sorry to burst your bubble but you're wrong. Note 4 is clearly on their list of phones they will give you the MSL or the ISU (International SIM unlock), but not DSU. Read for yourself: http://www.sprint.com/legal/unlocking_policy.html
Moving on in 3 - 2 - 1.....
Just swap for tmobile or Verizon note 4 ..post an ad. Meet at the store. Verizon is unlocked out of box. It will work on all but sprint. Tmobile will work and I believe Att with Sim unlock but don't quote me. Just an idea.

Can US model unlocked Note 8 from Samsung be 'converted' to a Verizon branded Note 8?

Please accept my apologies if this has been asked/answered ad nausem, but after searching the forums I still don't have a clear answer.
As the title suggests, I want to know if it's possible to convert the Note 8 I purchased from Samsung into the version that Verizon sells in the US? Is there a process I can follow to reinstall the ROM on this with the Verizon version to include the bootloader so that it has the exact same image, bootloader, software, etc. as if it were purchased as a Verizon branded phone?
If there isn't a process I can follow, by chance can a Verizon Wireless corporate store do this?
I've been a Verizon Wireless customer over 10 years and have always purchased their branded phones, however with this Note 8 I decided to go with the unlocked version from Samsung directly and now I'm thinking I should've went with the Verizon version. Hoping there's a way to put the complete Verizon build onto this phone.

I bought the unlocked version from Samsung and I am on Verizon as well. I just downloaded the official Verizon Note 8 firmware and flashed it to the phone with Odin. It's really simple but it does erase the phone. If you want to go back to the unlocked firmware you can flash that with Odin as well. P.S., you do need know what you are doing when it comes to using Odin, but a little reading and you'll be good to go.

Is that a difference in the hardware, or the firmware?
I.e. will you be able to flash an Unlocked phone with Verizon firmware and use Band 46?
I have note 8 unlocked. I flashed Verizon firmware and have band 46. I checked band selection in service menu, band 46 has a star next to it. It means that this will be usable when Verizon activates it. Unlocked firmware doesn't have band 46.

I also bought an unlocked Note 8 from Samsung. Only now I have not voicemail notification and no way to receive my voicemail except by *86. I went weeks waiting for voicemail notification to show up, then when I called *86 I discovered I had messages that were over a month old. Verizon said there was no way to get voicemail from my phone since I didn't buy it from them, and Samsung said I had to have a Verizon phone. Any help?

Google voice....or flash carrier Firmware
Hi there. I did create a post for someone else, ill post the link here.
It's for STOCK Verizon or Unlock US N950U or N950W.
I did the test with all US CARRIER firmware and everything works 100%.
Hi there. You'll need to have your Note 8 Bootloader version on level 2, meaning 2BQK2, 2BQJA or anything with 2 before the last 4 digits.
1) tmobile SIM card in device
2) Odin v3.12.7 make sure extract
3) 2BQK2 firmware extract all files
4) put all 4 set of firmware files in the right manner, bl,ap,cp and csc. Don't used home-csc only CSC.
Odin and firmware https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673791459329067572 2BQK2

Unlock firmware
1) any carrier SIM card
2) Odin v3.12.5 Prince Comsey or modified Odin, make sure extract
3) 2BQK1 firmware, extract all files.

First instructions is for if you want stock US CARRIER BLOATWARE FIRMWARE, second instructions is if you want SAMSUNG STOCK FIRMWARE. Follow steps and everything will be fine, happy flashing.

I did heard about Gigabit 4G LTE from Verizon for last month release, but no show yet. I don't bother with the video calls and Visual voicemail, Verizon firmware don't have Samsung cloud, I'm losing too much other stuff to used. All I used is stock Samsung firmware, if Verizon had the cloud no problem, but they don't. Better performance on U1 firmware anywhere and white pages id which is better than what the carriers offer.

anyone looking into the at&t and T-Mobile variations of the TAB S4 yet?

Just a quick question, but i have yet to see any discussion on rooting or roming and of the gsm versions of the tablet, Verizon has had the tablet the longest, but they are a no go with bootloader unlocks so its probably pointless, but i have some small amount of hope for TMobile and and a lesser amount for at&t version. thanks for answering, i bought the tablet anyways because it is literally the last good Android tablet left, root or no root so ill make it work either way, and themes will fix most of my issues anyhow

I had the T-Mobile and Verizon variants of this tablet and neither has "OEM Unlock" for the bootloader so rooting is not possible right now and most likely will require an exploit to be found to allow this. The community is small with these tablets from what I have seen so far.
Also, neither had the latest version of Firmware so Linux on DeX does not work on them yet. This could change any day when an update is rolled out but you will need to wait on the carrier to roll that out.
That said it is a Great Tablet!
fine to know i guess, all i need is a normal Android tab, might mess with the dex stuff but not why i getting it, i would only have rooted it when Samsung gave up on the tablet anyhow, as they always seem to do with the tablets in my experience
I bought the Verizon model not realizing it couldn't be rooted. I returned it.
Another big reason not to buy a carrier branded tablet is that it will be throttled data if using a voice line on TMobile.
However if you buy the Korean model, you can root, use your voice sim for full data speed voice and text apps, and get 6GB of ram.
This is the one I got shipped to the US. No issues whatsoever : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Ga...-LTE-Unlocked-4K-Record-SM-T835-/253816928507

The T-Mobile build was ARJ3 but it was the September Security Patch and a U1 bootoader. Linux on DeX looks like it needs at least the October Security Patch. Good Luck!

AT&T version Unlocked-No Updates

As the headline states, I bought a Fold on launch day here in the U.S. My only option was the AT&T version as best buy was allocated only 6 units for the entire state on launch date and they were all AT&T models. Well, I am a T-Mobile user so I got the phone unlocked by a third party. Cost me $55 and had to hook it up to my PC but the phone was unlocked in less than three minutes. Phone is awesome in every aspect and although I still have bloatware and the AT&T logo on startup, the phone is amazing.
Problem: I see articles and postings about updates to the phone. Security patches, firmware updates that happened in October and now November yet my phone get none of them. Did some research and read a lot of back and forth over whether it was Samsung or AT&T or T-Mobile as to who would provide updates. Well, T-mobile doesn't carry the phone, AT&T will not update an unlocked phone of theirs and Samsung smart switch also does not work with AT&T branded, unlocked phones.
So here I sit with August 2019 security software and old firmware. with no way to get these updates. It's been ages since I rooted (or Jailbroke) a phone but it seems like this might be my only option unless you guys can suggest a way for me to get these updates. I would prefer to find a simple easy way to get this done over rooting but I don't even know if there is such a thing.
Any help or insight appreciated, thanks in advance for your time and efforts.

Change the s/w from AT&T ("U") to unlocked ("U1"). There's a thread in this forum with the files you need to download and instructions elsewhere on XDA. I changed my AT&T-branded Fold from U to U1 the day I set it up and have received two updates directly from Samsung. I'm currently on SK1 with the November security update. Leaving the phone running AT&T s/w prevents you from running call and messaging continuity and Hiya for caller ID and spam protection which are both pretty cool.

Ok, I read every page of this very long thread and am more confused than when I looked at the initial page. It has been several years since I have used odin to flash a phone. Would someone be kind enough to put a link to the latest U1 firmware and Odin download so I can get off to the right start?
I have AT&T Fold unlocked on the original firmware as I never received any OTA updates. Can I go straight to the latest one or do I need to do it in steps?
Much appreciated!
Edit: Just realized this was not posted on the long thread I was referring to, but still valid questions. There was another thread that was 14 pages long which I have been posting on as well.
I am having trouble getting the flash to work. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I think at this point unless we complain to samsung via the member app enough, it would only be through a custom rom. Its a shame really. Right now I would settle for just getting the text message function working right. It wont send out messages until after I reboot the tablet

Yes i can and it does work. But still I was hoping for them to make the tablet itself natively work this way. Just dont understand why they wouldnt. So now that would mean i have two lines that I can text from, but only one can make or take calls. Either way, I hope there is someone who has the tablet for tmo and can tell me that it still CAN be rooted and flashed with custom roms. Im so hoping. If not it will be the last time EVER i buy carrier ANYTHING!!

Ive also seen where he has gts7l (s7 5g) twrp source on his github, but not sure if he is ready for that to be released or if he even still have the tablet. I know that he also has a 7+

Well if there's no unlock bootloader option then there's no way to get root as that's mandatory to patch the boot.
The only way might be to pay for an unofficial bootloader like you have to for the phones if the tab7 is even supported by the Chinese outfit that does this.
So i spoke to tmobile the other and from what i was told that their tablet devices come unlocked (ie no need for the toggle as its unlocked), but will not work unless you have the tab paid off or paid full price at purchase. Is there anyone watching that has the tab paid off that can confirm this?

They're uninformed. Went back to other T-Mobile tablet forums, they're all bootloader locked.
Even then, there's nothing they can push to unlock it. That's the way samsung sold it to them as a vendor.

The problem is that so so many of the CSRs don't know the difference between network locked vs bootloader locked. Huge difference. As I understand it the TMobile network locking is in fact application based and unlocking can be turned off at Tmo server level. But bootloader locking is totally different

Correct, with tmobile however when they do the network unlock it would also (usually) allow for the oem unlock feature to be available or at least thats how it worked with other devices. With this, it should clear any block from that is set by Tmobile, however we will still need to go through whatever process to unlock bootloader.

Nope. Never has a US version samsung been able to be unlocked by any push update from a carrier.
The only phone was the sprint Note9 I believe, which was sold bootloader unlocked as it was a very different version.
But they have to be bootloader unlocked from samsung.
Everything else has to be unofficially unlocked using sampnwed.
Samsung is very different than oneplus in them allowing carriers to use tokens for unlocking.

I've had my t-mobile tab s7 for a rew days. What I've noticed is that tmo/Samsung has looked the app down so you can't make calls. The Phone.apk is present just not the ability to make calls. Move on to something. Also the oem unlock is missing from developer systems. And to add one last thing. Im unable to send text messages without rebooting the tablet. My model is the T878U. I hope there will be some changes but not holding my breath

DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE FROM VERIZON EITHER. Even though my galaxy tab s7 is unlocked, not only does Verizon do the same as Tmobile but Verizon also blocked T-Mobile 5G bands. I wanted to bring my Galaxy S7 to T-Mobile but T-Mobile 5g bands are blocked by Verizon firmware. Good business sense for Verizon since Verizon has almost zero 5G coverage and everyone who wants 5G is forced to Tmobile. And even though its not the blazing fast higher frequency 5G, its pretty damn damn fast compared to 4G and sadly especially fast compared to the only two competitors. And its almost everywhere LTE is now.
