[Q] GPS without Data/Network connection

Hello all,
I have a HTC Desire with Froyo, rooted.
I wonder which application are you guys using if you want to use GPS without a data connection.
I will be on rooming on my next travel and I am bit lost with what to use. I will be travelling to Spain.
I have found this thread about Offline GPS app but I am not sure if this also applies to Desire.

I use CoPilot works awesome....no data needed!

Is this a Free solution? On the Market I only can find a paid option.
Which I then assume each map would also have a cost involved?

This one does not seem to be to bad... The maps take some time to update but is no data and does what it says. Nevertheless I can not get it to work with navigation. It only displays maps and my location. Will not help me with navigation.
Next step is to try Copilot, navigon and NDrive

[REQUEST] Can someone modify the NFC app

Can someone modify the NFC app to work while screen is off or locked? I've seen it done for other devices like galaxy nexus.

wouldn't that eat up battery? i think this would prevent the cpu from deep sleeping. could be wrong though...

MOD for Galaxy Nexus exist

Have any of you guys tried renaming your NFC.apk to NFC.apk.bak and putting the hacked version in?
I know for my SGS2, that nexus one worked fine.

If someone is modding this, could they also silence the notifications. I tried replacing the ogg files with silent ones but it just broke NFC.

I got quite a few tags and loved the screen off version on my GS3. Would be amazing if someone could make this happen for the N4.

I have downloaded and built the google source, and am trying to modify NfcNci.apk to get Nfc's to work while screen is off. I am new to android so I am still figuring out stuff, currently I am getting the below error, if anyone knows what I am missing.

All APKs are signed with a digital certificate. Certificate needs to match whenever you try to install an update for an app ("update" meanign same package name and higher version code in AndroidManifest). Also, Android allows for some special treatment when multiple apps are signed with the same certificate. See Signing Your Applications on the developer site.
I don't know for certain, but this would be my first guess.

Maybe you can ask one of the guys who did it for other phones. This is the thread for the S3 for example.

[ORGANIZATION] Porting CM10

Hello.
I'm starting a project for porting CyanogenMod 10.1(or 10 maybe) for Samsung Galaxy Y, and I will use this topic as organization and recruitment.
Before posting, read this about ME:
1º - I don't promess anything and don't know if this project will go forward(will depend if i go make progress, if people help, have a lot of things).
2º - I'm not a experienced programmer, I have only knowledgs in Java(for android applications, windows applications and LEGO) and aren't much, and web stuff(PHP, HTML, CSS, JS).
3º - I'm brazilian. Actually I'm registered in a English class(but its Basic 3), and don't know much well of the language.
4º - I will try port and organize people to help in this project, but how I said in 2º I don't have much knowledge in porting or something facing to this.
If you hope on me, read this about PROJECT:
1º - Almost all people want help, and make this topic has become disorganized, so: only people who know something useless or want be a tester(maybe you will BRICK your cellphone) will enter in the project.
2º - The project aren't going use the XDA for interaction between their members, because anyone can make a post with a lot of **** here(we will use something like OUR forum).
3º - The release will be TOTALLY free(I'm saying this because today I see one brazilian blog selling jelly bean for galaxy y, and this sucks).
4º - Other rules will be discussed later with the members.

Hello, When using my dasaita i have message or information on the screen from the car. For open doors it works well but the other messages appear with invisible background. It happened with : ice warning, activate or deactivate rearwiper, esp, stop/start.
How can i fix this trouble.
I also have trouble of electric parasites when using rearcam. How can i fix it too ?

Hello you'll have to edit the canbus.Apk. You can do it by using Root explorer to find the folder ,then rework it with paint for exemple. you can also translate also in your language if not existing yet (with notepad).

The solution requires rooting the device. I wonder why the manufacturers haven't fixed the problem. Maybe they are not aware of it.
Anyway, since I don't own the HU (yet), is it possible for you to upload the canbus.apk? Even if I don't buy the HU, it would be interesting to check the messages the canbus sends and experiment with the translation.

I install another rom. Hal9k rom. Its not so difficult To do and the forum can help you. I ll can send you the canbus apk when i go back home. What is your language ? I ll tell you if your language already exist. You have To know that some trouble already exist. Sometimes information from canbus appear very quickly. Another member is looking for repair it.

Thank you for your quick reply and time you spend to help. First of all, my language is Greek. My major concern is the messages sent through the canbus about car functions and notifications (for example, ESP off, low fuel, low ambient temperature, unfastened seat belt etc.). When upgrading the factory screen the goal is to add features without losing any.
Is Hal9k ROM addressing these issues? In this thread there is an image of the missing background. It would be very nice to have an updated image with the corrected version.
You mentioned a problem about quick message disappearing. I don't know if there is a specific thread for this problem. Speaking of this, isn't the OK button (seen in the quoted thread's image) responsible for releasing the message? Does it work properly when being pressed?

For the background i can help you. I m not sure that you can add more information from canbus than original. Button OK is present. It work. But i dont use it because message dissapear after des moments. To be honest i dont know if all messages appear. For seat belt it doesnt appear for me. I have for esp wiper light maybe other but i dont know exactly. I ll send you Another message when come back home

I have a Witson MTCE HU installed in my Peugeot 207cc. I have the same issue of the background
I am modified the canbus.apk but when I put it in the system and restart, the messages will no longer appear
I am still testing different possibilities and will keep you updated
Any ideas are also appreciated

Hello Today i'm using The V4 from Hal9k. i send him a message for the trouble with the background. He solved the trouble. If you update i think that you can havea background.
but actually , on this new mod, i unable to modify canbus apk by myself. (i dont look much)
Another members will try to do his own canbus apk but he's very busy and it will be for Peugeot 208/2008.

I will contact @segu45 to see if he can help me.
I decompiled the apk with APK EASY TOOL and Im not sure which PNG to edit (box1, box2 etc) to make them a solid color.
It should work after compiled, unless the rom has some specific signature that it checks for (contacted hal9k to ask about that)
I will only migrate to android 9.0 when theres a custom rom for that.

I have the .apk with the darkest backgrounds and almost all the colored png In the next few days I will put a link for those who want to change it. It is the last one, valid for all Rom in android 9 and for all vehicles. If someone wants to translate into their language, I can send it in English and when it is translated, compile it in the apk.
