I've seen a decrease in battery performance but this has only been my first day on the update

I haven't noticed any difference. Still fast and battery has been good.

Seems the same to me. I'm on Elemental's kernel though.

Mine is back to the way it was before the 7.1 update.....better.

mine seems like its the same

It depends on what you have enabled, that will make a difference from 7.1 to 7.1.1. For example double tap to wake and lift to wake, you're turning on sensors and having them running, using more power.

"only" ddtw, actually tuns on the digitizer 24/7 waiting for you to ddtw. I don't think it uses too much, at least I've not noticed.
Ive noticed the radios working differently too..

If screen brightness is over 70-80â„… the battery will gone be flat in 6 h keeping just to 50â„… the battery is holding like 14h its strange but the usage is not showing nothing strange,or maybe my phone is defective...

My home has weak (or non-existent) cell signal strength. Since 7.1.1, Mobile Standby uses twice the power compared to anything else, and as a result overall battery life is hugely reduced. Under 7.1, the battery curve flattened off nicely overnight; now, it just continues downhill.

Can you not change the radio? I'm not sure if their backward compatible but worth looking into

I've wondered the same thing, but until now, I've been happy to keep my Pixel in original, stock condition.
Will see how it goes over the next few days, but might have a go at changing the radio if it's as bad as it currently seems.

Battery is still good for me.

Battery life has been great for me no issues since 7.1.1

Yeah my battery has been good now too... Idk very weird maybe it was the DTTW or maybe the new version needed to sit in for a few days. I don't know... But whatever thanks for the update guys!

i have a few tweaks in my build.prop that have seemed to helped with my battery, along with su.d scripts that run on boot that have helped alittle.

My pixel XL (unlocked bootloader, stock otherwise) shows 25% battery, then suddenly powers off the phone. When I plug into power while off it shows 0% battery. I power on phone and get into OS and it shows the same 0% or 1% and proceeds to charge properly. However, when it gets down to 25% again it just powers off and says 0%. Is my phone's battery toast or am I missing something?

did u try calibrating the battery with any of the free software on the market !
i used to get 3 hours "seriously" out of this phone ... after deploating and calibration it can last 12 hours with heavy use !
I've started using an external battery charger (one of the official lg ones from Ebay) and an extra battery, and just swap them out when my phone dies, and I've noticed on the few occasions where I charge my phone by plugging it in, even though it says 100% (and I've done all the battery calibrations and everything) it doesn't last as long as when I pop in a fully externally charged battery.
My device battery life also got better in comparison to the first days i used it. But for some reason i experience some strange usage right now.
For example:
In the morning from 7 - 10am 100%... later 10% in 15 minutes, with phone in standby-mode.
I checked after i'd make a phonecall, hardware consumption for radio was on 99,9%. After reboot it was ok again, but later hardware consumption for the screen was at high level. Strange... everyday a new experience.
Turning LTE off helped my Spectrum last 24+ hours. I turn 4G on whenever I really need it, though. And with 4G on all day, I can get 12-16 hours under moderate use.

+1, better battery life than stock ROM
I have honestly never seen a phone go through battery quite like this one. I love the phone to death. It feels solid in the hand, and the screen quality is amazing. But I can't deal with the battery going like this. I input a new APN so it would just use HSPA+ .. but does that actually stop the LTE radio from searching? (I am in a non-LTE area)

Yes our screens are a big consumer of power but there are plenty of disadvantages to AMOLED: heat, image burn (like a plasma tv), image quality and longevity of the screen. The more pixles that are lit the more power it uses, to the point that it uses more power than IPS with large areas of the screen are lit. This along with image retention is why CM7/9/10 has black as a background for everything and stock doesn't. Think of it as LED/LCD TV's vs Plasma. Similar power curves between them.
BTW the little program above dropped my idle power usage to only 5% over 8 hours. I will be trying it with cm10 to see if I get similar results.

[Q] New Battery - Better Android System Usage?

I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running Lollipop. I've noticed I have been having fairly poor battery life over the last few days with Android System taking up the most usage. I purchased a spare battery for my Note 4 yesterday and I have been using the new battery with my phone. My android system usage is significantly lower with the new battery. Does this mean the older battery is defective? Or is it something else with the phone? Has anyone experience the same circumstances?
And yes, I have a SD card installed and I have factory reset my phone and wipe the cache after I installed Lollipop.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully it won't start up again. I just feel it's weird because a new battery shouldn't affect what is using the battery but rather how long the battery lasts. Isn't that right?

I think so. I mean, the only thing I could think of that might reduce ASystem with a new battery would be if the new battery didn't have NFC. Then MAYBE ASystem will go down just because the system wouldn't be detecting the NFC chip. But even then, I wouldn't expect a huge drop in %usage.
If the old battery was defective, I also wouldn't expect ASystem to run high. If the CPU were bad though, then it definitely would because the cpu may not enter deep sleep, so the phone is always technically on. (I had the happen with my old phone. Had to get it warranty replaced).
Just keep an eye on it for a few days to see if things continue to stay good.
Btw, what battery? OEM? Third party? Large capacity (like a 6400mAh battery)?

The new battery is just OEM. and thanks for your input.
So...with the new battery about 10 hours of run time and 4.5 hours of screen time (mostly YouTube). I am at 8% battery life? Is this normal?
Also here's my setup
- Bluetooth off.
- Location On - Power Saving Mode
- WiFi on and connected, look for WiFi network is On. Always connected to WiFI is on.
- YouTube @ 15% of Battery and Screen / Android System both taking up 14%.
- Screen Brightness on Auto
Is this normal or should I be getting battery life out of my phone?

I think many people report 4.5-5 hours of constant screen on time, so I think your getting normal battery life.
I usually get about 1-2 hrs screen on time, but my phone is in standby for tge rest of the time. I usually then get a day and a half of battery life (or 2 days).

Old/Bad battery

So I got a brand new pixel XL a few weeks ago. I was reluctant about the whole thing because even though it's a new phone. It has been sitting in a box for over a year without being charged or anything. So long story short, I got the phone and the battery life is awful. I took it off the charger this morning and within 5 min of being off the charger it's at 96%. I typed this and that's it. My work issued phone is a standard iPhone 7. Absolutely destroys this pixel XL in battery life. What is your experience with this phone? Do you think it would be worth ordering a battery and putting a new one in?
Depends on what version of android you are using. 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 were great with battery life, 8.0 sucks and I have heard people in the beta 8.1 are saying the battery life is spectacular.

I didn't even consider the fact that a phone sitting in a box not charging for a year could effect the condition of the battery...is this really a valid concern? Would that really degrade the quality of the battery?

Something is wrong then as you have said, 8.1 is awesome on battery.
I would bite the bullet and factory reset it, and hold off putting any apps on it, or making any settings adjustments for a couple of days.
If that works, go slow adding apps. If it doesn't yeah get the battery replaced.

Battery's don't like to sit. That's why a lot of people that have cars that sit or recreational vehicle put battery tenders on them. Maybe this doesn't apply to the batteries in our phones
I don't know if all battery types work the same. Car/boat/etc. have lead-acid batteries, the old rechargeable and battery phones were nickel-metal-hydride, and modern phone batteries are Lithium Ion. They all have different characteristics when being used and stored.

I guess my only concern is a phone is going to get good battery life while on airplane mode. Maybe not. But with that enabled I won't be able to use the phone for anything so it will just be in doze which would result in good battery life. I understand what you mean but I don't know if it will really show me results that are useful

Valid point. But I think a bad battery will continue to drain, maybe not as fast....but too fast for while on doze.
I've always read that the battery percentage isn't too accurate above 90%. Also, don't the phones stop charging once full and trickle as it depletes? There's apps that had been made to do this as well since it's supposed to be better for letting lithium batteries. I'd give it a day or 5 before thinking your battery is bad.

I have had the phone for a few weeks and have just been kinda dealing with it. Maybe it's fine and I was just expecting more from it. So far it just has not been all that impressive.
Edit: your comment about the first 10% not being that accurate. There may be something to that because it does seem as though the first 10% goes fairly fast then it slows down after that. Maybe it's just something g that I need to get use to

Google Pixel 3 XL thoughts on battery?

So my pixel 3 XL is arriving on November 1st (UK) and I'm curious about the battery.
Of course I know the phone is new, takes time to bed in, and for adaptive battery to work it's magic - however, I've read and watched videos on YouTube about how the battery isn't quite as good as the pixel 2 XL, which I find surprising.
I understand that the battery is a tiny bit smaller, but with the more efficient sd845 I would have thought it'd more than offset the loss of the smaller battery size. In quite a few comparisons they're saying the phone hits 0 much faster than the pixel 2 XL.
So for those of you with the phone, what are your own anecdotal feelings on this?
so far, havent had much time to use the phone without it being charged on pixel stand.
I did leave it off the charger since yesterday, and it is on par or better than with my pixel 2 xl. right now it has 60% with 2h 20m of screen time, was off charger for approx. 14 hours, just had it plugged into computer for a few minutes to do a backup.
Doing just what I normally do (email, web, feed, etc), though I did watch a couple 4K UHD videos on youtube for about 20 minutes.
I charged mine fully, and then non-stop used it right off the full charge since I just got it. I got over 6 hours SOT with 20% left. This was all while the phone was being set up, syncing, and being constantly played with. If I can get over 6 hours SOT a day, and still have juice left I'm quite happy with it.
My battery life is almost exactly the same as what I got on my 2 XL. I'm good with that. It still would've been nice to get a little better battery performance. Also, my phone shut down last night at 5% battery left. Not cool. I'm gonna see if it shuts down early again tonight and if it does I'll have to send it back. I also noticed that the battery meter is getting stuck on certain percentages and then skipping a percentage here and there, just like my 6p, Pixel XL and 2 XL did. Must be a Google thing.

Well I've just charged it once so maybe it'll get better. Every Google phone I've owned has had a battery meter that sticks on percentages here and there so I'm not looking for that to change. I just hope it doesn't keep shutting down early because that's something I'll send it back for.
Take this with a grain of salt as I do not have a sim card and only use as a media device but battery seems pretty good. At least on par with my iPhone XS Max which has one hell of a battery in terms of power consumption. Though with the pixel I probably get lower than average standby drain due to not having cellular.
Battery life is just OK I think. It gets me through a day with moderate use but not sure yet if it is better or even with the 2 XL.
Battery gets me through the day. It gets me through the day and more if I drive somewhere since my car mount has wireless charging built in.
Battery life for me so far is great. I'm sitting at 18% at midnight after being off the charger since 630am with just over 6hrs of screen on time.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
Its just okay for me... I think I got better on my 2XL so far. Maybe 4-4 1/2 hours of SOT if I'm lucky... right now i'm at 80% with 38 min
Mark me down for about 6 hours SOT on average daily after about 4 days of usage.
I try to goto Greenify immediately to see the list of "who's talking to their mothership in the background".
.
I read the always "ON" display dragged the battery down and did not "really" add to the phone so much. . . . Is it 'on' by default ? . . . . I mean, if you're staring at the screen "that much", well . . . .
.
( for those with root ), Greenify made my last setup last more than two days / almost three ! . Subjective as to what need to always "run".
Battery has been pretty much a disappointment. It is nowhere near a One+ 6 or iPhone Xs Max - I'd even say worse than the Pixel 2XL.
Mainly disappointing since the screen brightness is so low even running full brightness outside makes it barely tolerable. This is after a couple of days but don't see it getting better.

Oh forgot a most important thing! I use a pure black wallpaper. OLED displays don't use any power to display the black color so it only uses power to illuminate the icons when you are using a black wallpaper. Saves a ton of battery. Use a black background wherever you can. Dark mode is your friend.

Question about location. Did you turn it off on the top or bottom? I remember when I was on andriod before there was a way to turn it off and on in the control center.

Android 10 Battery life

after the update my battery life simply sucks. Anyone else experienced this issue? Is factory reset needed?

You really need to give it time for the new update to settle. You won't see the real outcome maybe after a few charging cycles.
The battery is adaptative and gets better and better after time.

Mine wasn't great yesterday, today it's great so far. Turn off usage access for digital wellbeing, then restrict battery and data. That alone made my battery life way better.
Battery life is fine on my end and everything works as should. Came from stock pie, updated to Android 10 via OTA.
Battery drastically worse since upgrade to 10. Overnight, with WiFi, Bluetooth, and mobile data all turned off, it drains 30%.
Before update, was usually 3 - 5% overnight drain.
WTF???
Yes the drain is bad. The battery goes down fast on my pixel 3 xl (no root, stock).
30 mn of screen for 30 % of battery :-/
Is this good?

reboot phone while plugged into charger and clear device health services, your issue is same has mine, i wont bother telling you the other bit i do because ppl think its bollocks and start calling me a troll, but you can look for the thread possible fix for idle drain if you wish to try it. Issue go away after clearing the app, but sometimes comes back when updating the app. Also toggle wifi network to something else and back just to let device health services see the wifi after you cleared the app.

This is about what I get as well (5-6 hours SoT before needing charging). I only updated to B6 before the final, but everything works great, and I'm having great battery life.

I get the same battery life, if not more. Definitely happy with it.
Boe323, thanks, i will take a look about your method. I wish the issue will go out.
I also experience way worse battery than with Pie.
I turned off usage access for Digital Wellbeing and will try the Health Services thing and see how it goes from there...

How long ago did you update? Clean or dirty install? Have you tried using something like Better Battery Stats to see what's actually draining your battery?
Battery is the same for me 4 to 5.5 screen on time.
Mine Is Better than before..
I think Google pay could be the difference.. with It the drain is worse than without.
I try the health service. Look like better, 4-5h of SOT.
But it's strange, my 100% on the up right of the screen is not a full 100% in the setting/battery.
I have to continue to charge to full 100% in the setting.
From 100% full to 98%-97% is fast, few minuts of using, like 1mn of Gmail and 1mn of SMS. Oo
After that the battery is ok.
