Root Question - from rooted 5.1.1 to rooted 6.0.1 - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, before I start, I have spent hours researching all the files I need for this, but I am rusty as I haven't looked at rooting since I did 5.1.1. I have about 4 links, that all explain how to root to 6.0.1, but my question is: Most all of them say you need to rollback to 5.1.1 and then start the root process from there, or start with changing the marshmallow bootloader first, etc. If I am already rooted on 5.1.1 can I just use flashfire and simply use the stock 6.0.1 firmware, or do I still need to follow all instructions? Where exactly do I need to start if I am already rooted/unlocked on 5.1.1?
Here are the links I have been looking at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/note-4-verizon-bootloader-unlock-t3358913

http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...overy-n910t-t3-marshmallow-pe3-guide-t3406870
I just need someone to point out which link I need to use and where I need to start since I am already rooted. If I don't have to start at the beginning, I would rather not waste time doing stuff I don't need to. I thank you for the help.

if you are already on 5.1.1 unlocked then at http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144 skip the "unlock your Lollipop bootloader to match CID (start here)"

Thank you for your time. Actually, now that I think of it. How do I know if I unlocked my device, lol? I just remember rooting it... I assume its unlocked since I switched from Verizon to AT&T and now my verizon note 4 is running on AT&T network, or are you talking about a different unlock?

grab this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.vinagre.android.emmc_check&hl=en and check to see if your eMMC's CID starts with 150100 and ends with e54fc1200

Ah, I remember using that app when I first rooted, I must have deleted it. Yes the CID starts and ends with those numbers.

I will try this out.

After I complete the entire process, can I just use titanium backup and restore my backup to have all of my apps/settings back on my newly rooted device?

Looks like I ****ed up somewhere, and now I am on a non-rooted 6.0.1 .....ffs
I assume now I have to redo everything and drop down back to 5.1.1 rooted?

How to root my LG G3 (i have searched already!)

Hi guys,
I might get flamed, I might not.
I have searched on google on how to root my LG G3. I have used towelroot and it says something like it isn't compatible. I used stump root and it says its patched. I used purple drake and I manage to find my device but the error comes up about vulnerability.
Luckily with PDrake, I found my software version as I have been seeing 10f 10e etc everywhere and it seems mine is a v20f.
Into google it went and the search it very minimal on answers.
Do I have to rollback the software to a kit kat version in order to root??? Is there any other way or more importantly is it a safe way?
All I really wanted to do was change some of the UI sounds and I cant access the system folder without a root!
P.S. Is there up to date, guide on how to roll back?
Thanks!
Yes, you have to go back to kitkat, then I used IOroot and then install twrp via Bump

Thanks for the reply hgneto
Dammit, so downgrading it is.. <_< Been searching and you have to download custom ROMs? They are labelled with 10g/10f, are these related to the version of the phone?
Sorry, not clued up on all the jargon/acrynoms.

Here for downgrading.
What's your phone variant ?

This what I need? It says back to stock but I am assuming its just for the version you want?
I have gone through the files and not sure which one I dl?
Im from the UK, on three.
EDIT: @ Raptor - Not sure what you mean but its the LG G3, D855 v20f 16gb.
Seems it is the link I am supposed to be one, thanks.
Just not sure what rom I should be picking.

Ok nice, so D855 16GB from UK and unbranded ?
This KDZ should work. It will bring you to V10A, so Kitkat, and after that you can root.
If you have issues downgrading, I suggest you ask in the other thread, it is especially for this step.
Good luck.
BTW: doing that will erase all your data on your phone.

Again im not sure if it is branded or not. Its an LG G3, is LG not the brand? lol Sorry!
Thanks for the link, clicked it in another tab and doesn't seem to be working but ill figure it out.
So doing this process wipes my phone? So much for just wanting custom UI sounds :haha: No way around the phone wiping? I mean most of my stuff is backed on google+ but its just tiresome considering I have just put everything on there already with the phone being new..........
Thanks again.

What I mean by branded is that you might have some Vodaphone software on it or from an other carrier. Unbranded means it's a pure LG phone unmodified by the carrier.
LL can't be rooted so you have to downgrade to KK.
For doing so you need to factory reset your phone using a KDZ or a TOT file, and there is no way around wiping the thing doing that.
Yeah that's a lot to modify a sound, but eh that's the deal as of now. And mind that if you downgrade to KK and root, you can't get back to LL if you are rooted. (Well you can but your phone will become a brick)
If you want a rooted LL, you need a custom rom like CloudyG3 for example.
Cheers for reply, already hit that thanks button.
Seems a lot for custom UI sounds, think ill wait until someone develops something. In the mean time I will continue to search for the ability to mod the system audio file without a root
Sorry to hijack, but can I confirm that the way to go from stock lollipop to rooted lollipop is to downgrade to Kitkat using the links above, then root, then install a rooted Lollipop rom?
Thanks

Yes. LL has been rooted, but it´s way more complicated than previous versions of Android. You can wait, but it could be weeks, months or years for an universal safe and stable method
And the G3's locked bootloader isn't helping too....

can we add root to locked G4? i do not want to unlock bootloader yet h811

is it possible to add root to locked bootloader.. if so can you give me link..
does it work on LP and MM?
what can i do with a locked bootloader?? what options do i have?
thanks.

As far as I undestand yes. You need an specific LP version but Im still trying to find out this. The thing is that every root method is now outdated and my phone came from warranty with a newer version. I just dont know how to proceed.

Ok, according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/psa-warning-try-to-downgrade-g4-t3197675 (bottom of first post) you can safely downgrade h811 from 20i to 10n
This whole situation could be clearer tbh

Things to consider:
Windows 10 may not work. I tried for over a day trying to backup my stock system.img using Windows 10 until some guy from another forum told me Windows 10 was probably having incompatibilities with the drivers.
Rooting. I had to make a VirtualBox virtual machine running the last version of Ubuntu (Took me 10 mins in total -downloading-setting the VM) but I also downloaded the files directly to Windows and copied them to Ubuntu. When I was rooting Ubuntu was missing files that were not compatible to copy & paste from Windows to the Ubuntu VM. So download the root_inject files directly to Ubuntu.

Yup that is the low effort root. That one is good when you have a stock room available, in your case V10N.
I went with the Ubuntu one because the version my carrier installed seems to work pretty good so I just needed root and had to do the 3 step rooting method with Ubuntu.
Enjoy!

I suspect I have a broken TWRP for Android 4.4.4, the stock firmware of the phone. I downloaded the most popular one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-820/general/htc-desire-820-root-easily-t2913064) and didn't realise it wouldn't work with Lollipop. I eventually, would like to be rooted and on hsbadr's newest "EmotionOS" 7.1.1 rom
I don't know what to do next.

Since you can boot into BPA1, you can use this video and this guide to root your phone.

THank you for your guidance!
After I follow this guide, how would I then move onto habadr's 7.1.1 EMotionOS"?

After following the guide above, you will gain root on BPA1.
Then from there, you'll use this guide by hsbadr, to upgrade to marshmallow. It's a long process, but it's worth it. Also, make sure that you have a mobile data connection during the marshmallow upgrade, because your Wi-Fi won't work. After you've update to CPJ2 using this guide, you can then flash EmotionOS.

I forgot to tell you that if Kingo Root doesn't work, try King Root. Also, if you get a root successful message, don't even use root checker, as long as you know you've got root. Just move into the adb steps, temp root is very touchy and can reboot your phone at any time, so try to go through the adb steps quickly.

Used king root and learned to be real quick.
I then pasted all those ABD commands and got twrp installed but when I rebooted, I got boot loops. :-/
so I booted into recovery and wound up installing Jasmine rom 4.3 ( Mjust happened to have on my original old micro sd ) to avoid starting all over, and it seems to have taken!
Looks like I still have root.
Seems to run fine without installing oscar Kernel and SUper SU, should I still install those two?
Can I uninstall king root?
Im thinking I should make a backup through twrp, what do you think?
Thnaks again, can't wait to proceed to Hsbard's 7.1.1!

Yeah, you should probably make a backup in twrp, just so you don't have to start over again if anything goes wrong. Were you running 5.1.1 or 6.0.1 before you flashed JasmineROM?
5.1.1 from the video walkthrough you suggested,
Seems to run fine without installing oscar Kernel .
Thanks again, can't wait to proceed to Hsbard's 7.1.1!

You're welcome, please post a screenshot of your About Phone section, I want to see what build and baseband you're on, and yes, you can uninstall King Root. The boot loop that you had after rooting could have been fixed by pulling the battery and or SD card.

Okay, so it seems like you're on the correct baseband, however, you probably shouldn't have flashed JasmineROM after rooting. You skipped the second guide that I posted. After you root stock 5.1.1 BPA1, you then need to upgrade to 6.0.1 from there before you can flash EmotionOS. I'm not entirely sure if you can still use the second guide that I posted since you're no longer on stock BPA1. For the most part, I think that you can, so if you're willing to risk it, use that second guide I posted to update to 6.0.1, this is also where you'll be needing a data connection since the your Wi-Fi won't be working.

I panicked at the boot loops and thought to myself, "what do I have to lose by flashing jasmine, a 5.1.1 rom?"
My other option, I thought, was to start all over again, which I still may have to do.
I will precede Saturday night, after my out of town relatives leave.
I AM SOOOOO HAPPY, WHERE I AM AT, THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH FOR YOUR CONSISTENT HELP AND ADVICE THROUGH THIS "ORDEAL: I GOT MYSELF INTO!!!!

APN = VZWINTERNET
Preferred Network type was Global then I tried a few others like CDMA + LTE/EvDo and LTE and GSM/WCDMA/LTE but no 4g
I also flashed BPA1 modem from here as suggested in the forums but still no 4g LTE

Honestly, I have no idea what the problem could be, as I'm on T-Mobile and not Verizon. Try asking around the CM13 thread and see if another VZW user has the same issue.

root info?

Hey all!
I'm new to Samsung completely, I have experience rooting, as I've had multiple Nexus devices, and other rootable phones. Just never had a Samsung. I recently took the Oreo OTA update, and was wondering about the best rooting method? Ive read that you lose secret folder. Is there a way to keep that?
Basically I just want to debloat more and theme without having to use Andromeda, as that is annoying.

Thanks I appreciate your help.
Rooting for Verizon is not happening as of now as they Lock the Boot-Loader and just Phones aren't as easy to Root now
Yes it will work fine on oreo, as long as the 2nd to last number of the version you are on isn't a 3. Example:
Good: G950USQU2CRB7
Not Good: G950USQU3CRC6
^-- That right there is a no no for now
But afaik there is so rom in existence for 950u with a 3 there. Just something to watch for in the future.
You don't need to flash back to nougat stock first either. Your should be able to go straight to pcr. If you have trouble with the first step you can try flashing part 2 first, followed by 1 then 2 again, but i fine expect you will have any issues.

If you have nougat or a specific type of Oreo root is still possible with PartCyborgRom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...root-partcyborgrom-aqk3-samfail-odin-t3717702)

So basically what I'm gathering is, it downgrades the bootloader or kernal to a rootable state, then with wizardry I can flash a Oreo rom?

Not exactly, this is a root/rom combo. So it will downgrade you back to Nougat version 2 bootloader firmware, root your device, and flash a ROM all at the same time. So there is no way to flash a different ROM since the rooting process and ROM flashing is built into one step.

True, but if anyone is still lucky enough to be on version 2 bootloader on Oreo they still can downgrade to Nougat version 2 bootloader and use that Root/ROM combo to root their device since it works on ver. 2 bootloader but not 3. And yeah, screw Verizon!

Yeah its flashing an engineered firmware, and it trips knox which is needed for secure folder I think. I looked on my S8+ and couldn't find secure folder anywhere, so I'm guessing the ROM removes it.

Whatever happened to those days. S**t, the last few ROMs I was flashing on the N6 were all pretty much the same. I miss being pissed off that one rom had all the things I wanted but looked hideous. Then everything got CM based and themes were everywhere. Then it all just got the same. Then it all got locked down. Almost like Android and Google were playing the devs getting them to make the mods, then them steal them, and incorporate them, then lock it down.

I'm sorry for this basic question, but does the phone being carrier unlocked make any difference? I know that has nothing to do with the bootloader; I'm simply asking if the phone not being Verizon-specific has any effect on rootability ... I was just about to purchase an unlocked S8+ when I saw this thread and almost spewed Mountain Dew all over my monitor. I had no idea Verizon had squelched root, although no surprise there, right?

if its unlocked and international version, and you use it on verizon, you can still root without any problems from verizon. only verizon variant there is that crappy problem

Yeah there is root for all carrieres (verizon, tmobil, sprint, att) but its limited and the bootloader is still locked. I would still get a the international version, better root, more Roms, etc...

When you say international version, is that simply the carrier unlocked version? And do you know if there is a certain model number or letter designation after the model number I should be looking for? I'm shopping on Swappa and eBay and need to be really careful. Thank you for the help, by the way.
