Need help, Screwed up my VZW N910V Dev Ed "Software update failed" message - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Earlier today I had a VZW N910V Dev Ed. I tried flashing firmware through odin and now it is borked.
when I try to boot normally, I get loops of the samsung screen.
I tried this guys solution AND CAN NOW BOOT INTO 5.1.1 BUILD NUMBERLMY47X.N910VVRU2BPA1
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/help/verizon-note-4-flash-odin-t3470166
WHAT A VALUEBLEPOST!
I'm guessing I have to start from scratch.\ and I don't even know how to start from scratch.
I eventually, would like to be rooted and on hsbadr's newest "EmotionOS" 7.1.1 rom
I don't know what to do next.
THanks!

Since you can boot into BPA1, you can use this video and this guide to root your phone.

After I follow this guide, how would I then move onto habadr's 7.1.1 EMotionOS"?

After following the guide above, you will gain root on BPA1.
Then from there, you'll use this guide by hsbadr, to upgrade to marshmallow. It's a long process, but it's worth it. Also, make sure that you have a mobile data connection during the marshmallow upgrade, because your Wi-Fi won't work. After you've update to CPJ2 using this guide, you can then flash EmotionOS.

I forgot to tell you that if Kingo Root doesn't work, try King Root. Also, if you get a root successful message, don't even use root checker, as long as you know you've got root. Just move into the adb steps, temp root is very touchy and can reboot your phone at any time, so try to go through the adb steps quickly.

Used king root and learned to be real quick.
I then pasted all those ABD commands and got twrp installed but when I rebooted, I got boot loops. :-/
so I booted into recovery and wound up installing Jasmine rom 4.3 ( Mjust happened to have on my original old micro sd ) to avoid starting all over, and it seems to have taken!
Looks like I still have root.
Seems to run fine without installing oscar Kernel and SUper SU, should I still install those two?
Can I uninstall king root?
Im thinking I should make a backup through twrp, what do you think?
Thnaks again, can't wait to proceed to Hsbard's 7.1.1!

Yeah, you should probably make a backup in twrp, just so you don't have to start over again if anything goes wrong. Were you running 5.1.1 or 6.0.1 before you flashed JasmineROM?

5.1.1 from the video walkthrough you suggested,
Seems to run fine without installing oscar Kernel .
Thanks again, can't wait to proceed to Hsbard's 7.1.1!

You're welcome, please post a screenshot of your About Phone section, I want to see what build and baseband you're on, and yes, you can uninstall King Root. The boot loop that you had after rooting could have been fixed by pulling the battery and or SD card.

Okay, so it seems like you're on the correct baseband, however, you probably shouldn't have flashed JasmineROM after rooting. You skipped the second guide that I posted. After you root stock 5.1.1 BPA1, you then need to upgrade to 6.0.1 from there before you can flash EmotionOS. I'm not entirely sure if you can still use the second guide that I posted since you're no longer on stock BPA1. For the most part, I think that you can, so if you're willing to risk it, use that second guide I posted to update to 6.0.1, this is also where you'll be needing a data connection since the your Wi-Fi won't be working.

I panicked at the boot loops and thought to myself, "what do I have to lose by flashing jasmine, a 5.1.1 rom?"
My other option, I thought, was to start all over again, which I still may have to do.

Honestly, I have no idea what the problem could be, as I'm on T-Mobile and not Verizon. Try asking around the CM13 thread and see if another VZW user has the same issue.

will there be an update to the PurpleDrake method on the D851 with the new 10m update? for it to work properly?
YOu can still get rooted if u are on 10m. I did. It wont exit properly so u will need to pull the battery after it is done.

Correct. However, it does not install TWRP, nor the custom Boot.IMG to prevent triggering the root counter. I too would like to see an update to include these items.

I see your concern.. you can manually install twrp but i have no idea bout the boot.img
i did all except that. Someone mentioned you can flash back to stock and it will fix the root counter. If you ever need to send in your phone that is... but i do understand its easier if this would be one package kind of thing.
IDK how to even check that yet. LOL. I have already rooted and unrooted, just to familiarize myself with the process.

Yes, but as stated above, it will glitch. The glitch just freezes on the permaroot steps. Once this happens, removing the battery and rebooting still keeps your device rooted. With 10M, currently, you will have to manually install TWRP. I recommend downloading the IMG file online, and using Flashify to flash it.

Thank you for the response. Do you think its worth rooting since 5.0 is coming out soon? I still want to root but will I have to unroot in order to get the 5.0 upgrade? or better yet, will the LG get the upgrade any time soon. Sorry for these questions. And also, since this phone has the top notch camera resolution, will rooting affect the camera?

I unrooted to ensure I get the update. If you are rooted, and have not turned off OTA, you might get the OTA, and it might break something. I personally like the LG camera better than any other so far. Another reason I went back to stock. Rooting and keeping the stock OS, should leave the camera alone. If you flash a different ROM, your mileage may vary.
We should be getting 5.0 before the end of the year, officially. LINK

My apologies, that's for restoring stock... I see in your posts, you have it set to PTP... Mine was set to MTP. While "waiting for device" was on screen, I unplugged and replugged the phone. Aside from that, seems like you have done everything else properly...
Anyone else having issues making backups of AOSP ROMs? The backup folder is empty.

ZVH OTA update.zip

All righty. Here it is. It's 5.0.2 and it contains the Stagefright fix as well as who knows what else. Standard warning: you probably have to be bone stock ZVG to apply this. If you are rooted, this will probably break root, if it would even install at all. I could also be completely wrong. Have fun.
Download ZVH update.zip
Updates don't install on top of root. If rooted, reflash ZVE tot, upgrade, then redo LG One Click Root.

I tried restoring my stock recovery with Autorec and using the unroot feature in SuperUser but was still unable to flash the update.
I WAS able to get the ZVH update. You can root the ZVH update, use the LS980 Autorec app to flash TWRP and flash the hotspot mod too. I tot'ed back to ZVE and let my Sprint G2 activated on Boost go through the update process. Once i was on ZVH i did the above mentioned. It took a little time and some reading but my G2 is up and running like a champ.
I have root and can't update ZVH using TWRP. Can sameone explane step by step how would be possible ?

I've upgraded to ZVH, but I can't seem to root it. I've tried a couple of the LG_Root options and LG_One_Cick_Root_by_avicohh.exe but none are working.

OK. I'm working on something that'll get you guys hooked up. It'll be posted soon.
OK........ This is for the Sprint/Boost LS980. This info will allow you to root the ZVH firmware update. I have used this method on both Windows 7 and 10.
READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!! I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR DEVICE. THESE ARE THE STEPS I USED AND THEY WORKED PERFECTLY FOR ME.
You will need ADB installed on your pc. Here's an easy way to install if you don't already have ADB and Fastboot installed.

Maker sure you have a decent charge on your phone. I recommend 75% or more just to be safe. The entire process should not take near that but I always make sure I have enough juice in case I run into any issues.
This is only if you are rooted or your LS980 will not install the ZVH update OTA.
You will need to TOT back to an earlier build. I chose ZVE.
This thread tells you how to do it. Make sure you scroll down to the 2nd tutorial. It's the one for Sprint.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Thanks to @hyelton
Just follow the instructions and it will take you back to the ZVE firmware. Once you've reverted back to ZVE, let your phone update. It will take you through 2 firmware updates, ZVG and then ZVH.
NOTE 1: I downloaded the DLL file found in the Sprint folder. I had to use it instead of the Megalock DLL. Megalock gave me an error. The DLL in the Sprint folder worked perfectly so make sure you use it in place of Megalock when following the instructions.
NOTE 2: Once your phone is in Download Mode and you plug it into your pc there is a VERY good chance that it will start updating the drivers. LET IT!! It may take awhile so just be patient. Once it has completed, you can begin the process of flashing the older firmware.
NOTE 3: The tutorial states "99% of the time FlashTool will FAIL after 85% anything after 85% is just your phone rebooting so your safe". Personally, mine completed without getting stuck.
NOTE4: If you have trouble with Data, do a PRL update and a PROFILE update.
_________________________________________________________
OK....... once you've taken all the OTA updates and you are on the ZVH firmware you can begin the rooting process.
I have uploaded a zip with a tutorial on rooting the LS980. Make sure you unzip the entire zip file and open the README 1st!
I looked at several methods before rooting my device and cannot remember the original author of the tutorial included in the rooting process and files. I take no credit for this tutorial. If I could remember the author I would most definitely give him the credit deserved.

One last thing......... I also have the HotSpotMod working on my LS980. The ZVG zip in the thread will work for ZVH also. I had trouble with the mod alone so I tried using the WiFi Tether Router app found on Google Play after flashing the mod. I was able to get the hotspot working with the app. If you decide to flash the HotSpotMod, try it 1st. It may work for you. If not, use the app mentioned above and it'll work.
HotSpotMod-

Thanks to @Ascertion
EDIT: ADDED THE LS980 AUTOREC apk. You'll need it to flash TWRP.
One more thing. As far as I know, none of the custom ROMs have the ZVH patch for stagefright. If you flash one of those builds, as I understand it, you will lose the stagefright patch. Just wanted to make sure that info is known.

For some reason when I run the last "sh" command, the cmd window gives me no feedback and just sits there.

About ZVI update
Here http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=ALL&search=ls980 i've finded ZVI zip. But I've think this is the only source code?! Does anybody receive ZVI OTA update?
its odd everything seems to work until I reach the Send_Command.exe \\.\COM4 part
my COM is COM41 so I did COM41 instead idk if that breaks the process but basically when I run the SH command it just hangs Download Mode seems to be where most of my recent Rooting Attempts fail any ideas what would cause it to hang on running the lg_root.sh?
(update) oddly had to type ENTER rerun the send command then rerun the script now im rooted it looks like IDK why but thats an odd turn of events maybe this will help someone else ^_^
I'm already running ZVH and just got another firmware update notification today. Has to be another security update since it's only 231mbs. What sux is I'll have to TOT back again if I decide to take it.
Anyone else get the update yet?

I'm going to stick with ZVH. It's got the stagefright fix plus it can be rooted and has the hotspot mod. ZVI can't be rooted yet plus the changes made by the ZVI update, according to the info I've read, aren't worth losing root over.
Also, I may play around with CyanogenMod a little more. 12.1 runs great and progress is being made on 13.

Noob here! How can i UNroot my phone?

I want to UNroot my phone/restore my phone due to the fact that I believe I may have done something wrong in the process. I am on 5.0.1
When I turn my phone on, I do get the welcome screen saying my phone's unlocked and all but when I try to use xposed installer it says that my device is not properly rooted?
Specifically it says " The latest version of Xposed is currently not active. Did you install the framework and reboot?" When I try to do this, it says
"Xposed is not (yet) compatible with Android SDK version 21 or your processor architecture (armeabiv7a)
CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE: could not load library "libdvm.so" needed by" /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/cache/app_process";
cause by library "libdvm.so" not found"
And I believe I had a very hard time (when rooting) copying and pasting the SuperSU to internal storage. Not all the files were actually being transferred over.
I pretty much want to restore my phone so that I can try to root it properly this time.
When the tutorial on how root our phones came out, I feel as though I rushed it from excitement without properly educating myself on what to watch out for.
Maybe I am only HALF rooted? lol sounds so stupid. but my greenify works and superSU grants access to everything. I just don't understand.
My last phone was iphone4 and jailbreaking that was easy. This is something else.
Can anyone help? Thank you for your time!

Thank you for replying so quickly! :good:
Do you happen to know if this will automatically upgrade me to the newest OTA upgrade?
I want to stay on 5.1.1 so I can try to root it properly. And I've been delaying the OTA upgrade since day 1 and still doing so even with the supposed root I have on my phone right now.

If you're going to root your phone, you don't want to take the OTA. You'll just have to downgrade to Lollipop anyway.
Use ODIN and flash the full firmware. 5.1.1 should be good. @hsbadr has a thread in the Development forum with all of the firmware that's available. It'll save you the slow download speed of Sammobile.
If when you go into download mode and you see "mode: developer," you're pretty close to root. Flash SuperSU and TWRP and you'll be there.

Can you elaborate a little more on this for me? Because when I first rooted I made sure to do EVERY step. Read the forums and watched youtube videos directly linked from the forum.
The thing I just didn't know how to do correctly was flashing the SuperSU and TWRP (I THINIK)
I sincerely just remember trying to copy and paste some files into system storage? something like that... and not EVERYTHING was transferring over.
When I turn on my phone I get the welcome screen with the picture of the unlocked lock with "custom" underneath. So I know I must have done SOMETHING correctly.
Im just sincerely lost. It's quite infuriating .

Go into download mode. From phone off, hold the volume down, power and home buttons together. If it says "mode: developer" in the upper left hand corner when you get it in developer mode, your bootloader is unlocked. At that point you can pick up the instructions for flashing SuperSU and TWRP. You may need to flash the Emotion kernel... it's been awhile since I unlocked Lollipop.

As long as you use the stock firmware from SamMobile and follow the directions in the video, EXACTLY ......... don't take any shortcuts. You will need to join SamMobile to get the download but its simple and free.

Hey! Thank you for the advice!
I downloaded the firmware from @hsbadr ! Will that work? Or is it better for me to download it from SamMobile? I want to make sure I don't do anything incorrectly.
p.s. have you already rooted your phone?

SamMobile is very reliable but if you trust your source then you should be OK. I have done the root thing many times years ago but I'm happy with stock firmware and I need my devices to work without issue so I leave well enough alone.

Root Question - from rooted 5.1.1 to rooted 6.0.1

Hey guys, before I start, I have spent hours researching all the files I need for this, but I am rusty as I haven't looked at rooting since I did 5.1.1. I have about 4 links, that all explain how to root to 6.0.1, but my question is: Most all of them say you need to rollback to 5.1.1 and then start the root process from there, or start with changing the marshmallow bootloader first, etc. If I am already rooted on 5.1.1 can I just use flashfire and simply use the stock 6.0.1 firmware, or do I still need to follow all instructions? Where exactly do I need to start if I am already rooted/unlocked on 5.1.1?
Here are the links I have been looking at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/note-4-verizon-bootloader-unlock-t3358913

I just need someone to point out which link I need to use and where I need to start since I am already rooted. If I don't have to start at the beginning, I would rather not waste time doing stuff I don't need to. I thank you for the help.

Thank you for your time. Actually, now that I think of it. How do I know if I unlocked my device, lol? I just remember rooting it... I assume its unlocked since I switched from Verizon to AT&T and now my verizon note 4 is running on AT&T network, or are you talking about a different unlock?

grab this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.vinagre.android.emmc_check&hl=en and check to see if your eMMC's CID starts with 150100 and ends with e54fc1200

Ah, I remember using that app when I first rooted, I must have deleted it. Yes the CID starts and ends with those numbers.

After I complete the entire process, can I just use titanium backup and restore my backup to have all of my apps/settings back on my newly rooted device?
Looks like I ****ed up somewhere, and now I am on a non-rooted 6.0.1 .....ffs
I assume now I have to redo everything and drop down back to 5.1.1 rooted?

Downgrading from 6.0.1 - 5.1.1??????

First of all, let me say hello to everyone. I read the forums a lot but rarely post. This forum is a Great resource!! Thank you al for making it what it is.
Now, my issue. I have a Galaxy Note 4 SH-N910V which is currently running on 6.0.1.. From what I've read, I need to downgrade that to 5.1.1 just so I can root it, and then go from there. The problem is, I have to have root to flash a custom ROM. I seem to be stuck in a vicious cycle .
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get around this?
I want to root and then install a custom rom, but as you can see, I'm somewhat new to flashing and all that, and truth be told, I'm probably getting in over my head. It's all good though, i'muse to learning things the hard way
Thanks in advance!

You're correct, you will need to flash the bpa1 firmware for 5.1.1 and get your bootloader unlocked on Lp first. Here's a pretty good thread on the Lp unlock process and for downgrading your bootloader you can use this download. After you get unlocked on Lp, you can move forward to the unlock process for mm.
Cool, thanks. I've got it flashed to 5.1.1 but havent done anything with thee bootloader..

Hi Michael... I'm in the same boat as you... How did you flash the 5.1.1 rom?
I used the guide at the link below but I stopped at step 9 when I got stuck in a bootloop. I later found that a bootloop at that step is normal. You just pull your battery and leave it out for a minute and then fire it back up and it's ok.
Gonna give it another shot today.

Most of the forums on the note 4 on xda are very confusing because they include firmware/files you do not want to use to root and unlock.

You shouldn't get caught in a bootloop until you unlock. And that will be caused by the sd card. The process looks more daunting than it is. If you need any help, let me know.
I think I have a problem. I got to step 9 and got the bootloop so I panicked and flashed a recovery for 6.0.1. The phone works fine, but when I try to do a system restore it boots to recovery mode.it that top, in yellow, it shows 6.0.1. BUT,,, when I look at the "about phone", it does show that I'm on 5.1.1.
Should I continue with the process from step 9? Or should I just do a system update and start over with a fresh 6.0.1?
Edit,,,I should add that, I am able to get root with kingroot, but the phone reboots after a few minutes and root is gone.
