Apps auto updating - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I checked off the box in the play store to not allow auto updating. However some apps are still auto updating. For example fb and instagram auto updated. I still get notifications that there are updates available for other apps. Is there something i can do to shut off auto updates for these apps? Thank you

there is an option in gplay store too for removing notification for apps update. facebook and instagram update because there is facebook installer or so installed on system partition, which is not related to gplay store and therefore they still update...but why do you want to turn off auto update and even the notification?

Go to Settings / Apps and deactivate everything with Facebook or Instagram in its Name
You maybe have to choose "show system" in the Apps Menu

Sorry for late reply. I do not want apps updating without my permission. A lorry of times these updates make the app worse for me.
I also noticed that since the last sysytem update (2.38) my battery is significantly worse.
Im thinking about rooting they phone just to get rid of fb and instagram on phone. Wanted to dl the old fb apk that did both need messenger.

I do the same thing, I like to read what has changed in apps before updating also. there has been many times where the update has broken an app and I couldn't go back due to it not being a system app. I like viper rom cause in the installer I can remove system apps like facebook and Instagram before the initial system install and never have them auto update.

non market mandatory update for market yahoomail app

I have downloaded the yahoomail app from the market a while ago and it was working fine. But since yesterday I am getting a mandatory update for the app from a non market source. That menu keeps popping up and if I cancel that menu the app shuts down. I am wary of installing the non market update because it is literally asking for every permission on the planet including making phone calls and sms, read contact data etc. I can't understand why a mail application needs to have permissions for making phone calls or sms etc.
Can anyone here confirm if they are getting the non market mandatory update for the market released yahoomail app. And see if this is a legitimate update as when downloaded it shows as if it is not from yahoo. The app is unusable nowand even after uninstalling and reinstalling from the market I still keep getting the pop-up menu to download the mandatory non market update which I am reluctant to do unless I am sure it is from yahoo.
The update is automatically popping up from mobiledl.zenfs.com as seen after downloading it and I can't use the yahoomail app now because of not wanting to install the non market mandatory update and is about 2.2mb in size
I have two HTC desire phones both unbranded handsets, unlocked, stock 2.2 Rom and have not rooted the phones and am getting the non market mandatory update on both the handsets when I try to open the official yahoomail app which I had downloaded from the market.
Hello,
just look here androidcentral.com/yahoo-mail-android-requiring-market-update. It was just a mistake from yahoo

Thanks for the link. Looks like they have pulled the update file as I am no longer getting the update notice and can use the app again now.

[Q] Market Update Notifications and Auto Update

I have the Market setup to show me when updates are available and I have pretty much most of my apps set to allow auto-update.
The only notifications I ever get are when I reboot my phone (not just shutdown as I have quick boot on, but a full reboot) Then the market comes up and will tell me if there are updates, otherwise I get nothing. And it seems that none of my app's auto update either, when I do open the Market and there are updates for the ones I have selected to auto-update they require a manual update.
Any solution to this?

apps that say (manual update) have changed there permissions since the last version.. thats why a manual update is required, so you can review its permisssions.

That answers that one then, thanks for that.
As for the rest, is there some sort of sync profile I may have disabled which is stopping the Market from checking for updates do you know, or is it just the Market app which is actually rubbish.

its always been the same as you for me, even on my old desire, i think the market only checks for updates on boot

Mystery of the phantom app updates.

For a week or so now, my GNex has been popping up "available app updates" notifications at least once a day. This wouldn't be too unusual, but when I click the notification to go to MyApps in the market, I never seem to see all the updates.
If the notification says there are 5 available updates, then I click through to MyApps and find 3 updates available.
If the notification says there are 3 available updates, then I find 1
And if the notification says there are 2, I don't see any at all.
Seems like there are two apps on my phone that are either causing update notifications to appear when there is no actual update to install, or they have updates available, but I can't see them in the market for some reason. In either case, I have no idea how to figure out which apps are causing the problem.
There can often be problems with having multiple Gmail accounts. You get a notification for the update from an account other than your primary Gmail (but then you click into the Market and its your main Gmail acct). Not sure how to fix it, but it is mildly annoying.
If not, you can try wiping data out of the Market and re-entering your credentials.
Well if it helps I was also noticing that as well but like you said I went to market and nothing was showing .so for some reason I scrolled through my aps and clicked on google + and when it pulled up it had the update option so I updated and don't remember seeing any after so if by chance you have google+ on your phone check it just a thought cause that is where mine was coming from so far
Usually, you just need to wait for some times
Usually it happens to google apps (maps, google+, etc) so check them and also check your "Not Installed" list cuz sometimes those installed apps that need to be updated show up in that list instead of "Updates" list.
Not sure if its fixable with clearing data for market.
I also had this problem recently with Google+ and had it previously on my Xperia X10 with the facebook app. Possibly a problem with pre-installed apps which are then updated in the market.
Just do a manual install/update of the suspect app and the notifications will go away.
For me it was easy to spot the rogue apps as there was only one at a time causing the problem, so the update notification specifically said there was an update to Google+.

I had the same problem last week.
Google + showed an update notification, which wasn't displayed in the Google Market. I noticed that Google + was in the "not installed" list, so I opened it there and manually updated it by clicking on the "update" button on the Google + market page.
Any chance you have auto updates on?
i get this same problem too. vvery often i get notifications saying "4 updates" and really there are only 2 updates. it just happens sometimes for no reason i can see. and no there aren't any manual updates during this time. it's truly some weird bug, or something is getting counted twice either my 2 gmail accounts etc.

Yep, this was the answer. Google Music and Google+ were the culprits, and since they were pre-installed, they weren't in my installed apps list. I had actually checked every single app in my installed list individually, trying to find which ones had the updates. I didn't think to go through the uninstalled list.
I've had this happen from time to time. I fixed it by clearing market data, and then the market showed me the app that needed updating.
I've been getting it too and I think it's been caused by me having apps installed from a different market than what I am usually authorized to install from. ie I'm overseas and I have Google Music etc.

Is this the end of the road? Google Play Store installed Whatsapp no longer working.

It happened on July 25th 2018.
I was managing without rooting, with only side loaded Google Apps (Thanks to this forum), managing to get by with pretty much everything I needed in a phone. Occasionally I will hit a bump saying "Your phone doesn't support this app" because the Android is some defunct version. I will either get by without the app, or side load the apk and manage.
But, starting yesterday, WhatsApp is quitting out immediately with no visible error message. It just doesn't run. I think it happened after the latest WhatsApp update which happened on July 25th 2018.
Is this the end of the road?? WhatsApp is something I need in the phone.
What is my way forward.. other than buying a new phone?
For me, wapp sideloaded from play store works good. Some lags from sideloaded apps but is ok. Maybe u have an virus, I recommend to reinstall your rom

I side loaded WhatsApp Messenger version 2.18.217 from apkpure. That is working. Just lost a day's worth of messages. Not too bad. I also disabled auto app updates for Google play store.
But I still have one question. Since this WhatsApp version is side loaded, and not downloaded from Google Play Store, should I still be concerned about auto updates, or can I turn auto updates on, and this will remain undisturbed?
Thanks..

Question Gmail notifications still don't work

From the early june i still have no notifies for mail in gmail accounts. I try all the possible solutions, also a new Clean flash of the original rom, but the behavior is the same: i receive the notifies only manual opening the gmail app.
Try switchcing with custom rom (crdroid) and notifies works, but i need the original oos, so it's not a solution.
I think that is a play service related problem due to on the end of july after a update of play service the notifies come back to work... But... Another update stop them working.
Have you got a working solution?
I start a new work that use gwork suite, so i still not receive also the work mails .
Thanks
The same issue. (Battery optimization turned off)
Try this, worked for me.
Reset the App permissions, it may be that an app or apps or something connected is causing the issue.
Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > see all apps > select three dots > Reset app preferences.
Then reboot.
This will not delete your apps data but you will have to provide permissions for all your Apps again.
Then ensure Gmail has Notifications enabled in its App info>Notifications.
Download this latest version of Gmail from apkmirror

Problem solved since installed it.
For me it stop working sometimes and when it does i reboot the phone, then go to settings, accounts , Gmail and resync it, then it works again

I've downloaded Oneplus Launcher 5.2.26 together with the Gmail app. Maybe the launcher is the reason for it being fixed.
BTW Launcher 5.2.26 fixed a lot of bugs on the launcher and now the 120Hz is better but not perfect. Scrolling too.
And dont forget to check "Dont Optimize" under Battery
I have installed latest Gmail and Launcher but not help.

I have the same problem with notifications. Until this is fixed, I'm using FairEmail to pull my gmail and the notifications work.
This really is not a issue limited to Oneplus. All my Android devices have poor Gmail notifications. I was under the impression that it was optimized using Doze: https://developer.android.com/training/monitoring-device-state/doze-standby
If you use something like Outlook Email, notifications are not restricted in the background. I would rather use Gmail, but it does not send notifications reliably. So, Outlook it is.
15th of november... Still have notifications problems.
