What happens to CM based roms? - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Now that cyanogenmod is changing /turning into lineageOS, what will happen to cyanogenmod based roms?
Will it be a smooth transition to building off of lineageOS, or will it be complicated, with kinks to work out.
I'd really appreciate it if any developers could shed some light on this.

[q] aokp/aosp

Ok, Ive falshed many roms and have got to know many things about roms, kernels etc.
I'm still confused with one thing though....
What's AOKP & AOSP??
Ive seen many roms with that written and a few with Not AOSP Written on them.
Anyone Help me out here?
Thanks!
AOSP - Android Open Source Project.
AOKP - Android Open Kang Project.
An AOSP ROM is a ROM based on the Android Open Source Project from Google. An AOKP ROM is a modified AOSP with various tweaks and customization.
Kang is a word that is somtimes misconstrued to mean stealing other's work and to some it has a negative connotation. In reality though, it's starting with another's work and building on it to (hopefully) make it better. It makes sense that most devs appreciate being mentioned when their work is in play within a particular rom so that's why we often see a list of mentions when various tweaks/mods/etc are utilized.

AOKP Android Open Kang Project
AOSP Android Open Source Project
Just do a quick google/forum search for more info.
Thanks soumya_digi & zeeshansohail
But for AOKP is just mean the http://aokp.co/ project or all project based on a AOSP?
I mean, if I take a CM and do some change, will be a AOKP?
No right?
So AOSP are all the rom based on purecode, AOKP is just the aokp.co project.
CM is one of the AOSP
AOKP are just the rom maked by team kang, maybe also based on AOSP project..
I'm confusing.

[Q] How does having SOURCE effect AOSP roms?

Is this only a big deal for TW users or will the benefits help out with AOSP roms as well? I personally prefer AOSP roms (MIUI and CM9) so I'm really hoping that this recently released code will help those roms become more stable. Can someone briefly explain the significance of the source code being released and what it means for TW and AOSP roms? Thanks
You'll see some kernel tweaks/improvements and possibly better battery life. And we have the kernel source, not "source". "Source" would imply to me that we could build the whole ROM which we can't. Just FYI.

Build AOSP Lollipop ROM

Hello Devs,
I think the new Lollipop version is great but at the moment we only have CM12 ROMs for our S4 Mini. Can someone of you build a pure AOSP Lollipop ROM for our device that other dev's can use as base for other ROMs? I do not like CM and at the moment I'm using SlimKat but it looks like there is no update to SlimLP in the next days so it would be great if someone can build a pure AOSP LP ROM.
I would do it for myself but I have no experiance in ROM development. I found this thread but I'm not sure how to add our device. Also I found this and this repo on GitHub but I do not know which from them (or maybe both?) I need to compile the ROM or if I have to change something on them because they are for CM and not for AOSP. It would be great if someone can teach me these steps because this is often my problem when I try to learn something about Android ROM developemnt.
Yours sincerely
Cilenco
Cm12 at the moment is just aosp, give it a try it's very good

OrionOS is preety stabe
Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
And they also with 7.0.x?
Tesla N (looks childish is that the normal theme?)
Tesla N is official and stable but has a few very minor bugs(which are. Also present in all other N ROMs at this stage.
Still Tesla would be your best option. For the theme, you may flash the Pixel Launcher and stuff and you can be more stock.

All AOSP ROMs are CM based so unless you're running OOS, you'll be running some sort of cm based ROM. Also OOS is a lot more stable and has a better camera than CM/AOSP. Pretty much everything else is the same
I'd recommend Tesla N. Camera sucks on this ROM but I use a ported OOS camera app. There's minor issues with the ROM but you can really use it as a daily driver.

Not all AOSP roms are based on cm. There are many non cm based roms available for op3 like slim, pa, orionos, tesla, and more.
Most of them are fast and stable so try to find one that suits your preferences.

Hmm I thought the underlying base was cm and then it the respective devs customize it to their liking... Well at least it was like that on the S6 but probs different since we actually have all the sources for this phone.

Many custom ROMs are based on CM, which is itself based on AOSP but heavily customised. There are a number of other custom ROMs as previously mentioned that are based directly on AOSP code.
We don't really have all sources for this phone. OnePlus has only released the essential sources (kernel, dash charge, etc).

Any custom ROM development other than CM/Lineage?

Just curious if there is any custom ROM development for AOSP, Slim, Omnirom going on? Would be good to have other base's set up for our device and being maintained as it would give more options.
AFAIK no. Even if there were its 99% chance that it is based on CM/Lineage and has changes that just add some stuff but dont go really far from them.
The ideal scenario would be to have an pure AOSP ROM so that anyone can have a clean and easy start to build upon.
So far I think ParanoidAndroid is the only ROM that is also based on AOSP and goes side-to-side with CM/Lineage but currently they don't officially support HTC 10.
Although, I think I saw a branch for pme on their Github so you never know...
There's slim,aokp,and acip N here. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=search&s=Pme&type=files
Just search 'pme'
But I believe they are CM based . I am too waiting for pure AOSP .
