They pump them out boy ... "Report: Samsung to unveil Galaxy S IV smartphone in March
http://www.latimes.com/business/tec...g-galaxy-s-iv-rumors-20130123,0,1891292.story
At least they're not going all Apple and putting two models out in one year.
Plus, Sprint won't release the S4 until Summer based on a March unveiling. If the rumor is wrong, it could be Q3 for us.
I like to see the new phones, but I just got the s3 a couple months ago.
They'll probably be on the s9 by the time my upgrade comes around again. lol
sometmies i wish that they did better technology sooner, but at least they're making new stuff that is actually cool. it gives me something to look forward to, though i upgraded in october so i'm gonna be waiting quite a while. but hopefully i'll be able to pull a blackfriday deal on the s5 or s6 by then lol
Re: They pump them out boy ... "Report: Samsung to unveil Galaxy S IV smartphone in M
Whoooo I have my upgrade in June so if I decide to stay with sprint I will definitely get the S4

Please discuss devices other than the S3 in the sticky thread

Farewell T989 Community

While it's been a great year run, albeit with a few hiccups, it is time to retire my Hercules.
I can remember June 11th, 2013 as if it was yesterday. Waiting patiently for UPS to arrive (and eventually waiting until 10 pm, but that's another story). I received the package from HSN. It was my brand new T-Mobile Galaxy S II. After setting it up and then sleeping. I set off to root it! (No custom rom at this point.) I was surprised at all of the information I found here coming from the somewhat barren Optimus L9. I rooted it and immediately changed the DPI haha. Idk why now because that was the only time i ever changed it! About a month later however all the trouble started. The SIM card slot was broken (one of the pins) and I had to mail it in. So I did! Anxiously waiting for it to arrive again it made its way. I then re rooted and installed a custom rom... that night I was awakened by the sound of the phone rebooting over and over again endlessly.... the power button was suck.... I called Samsung (after trying the many fixes listed here) and sent it in..... it came back a week or so later... 2 days later.... same issue! So then I sent it back AGAIN talked to a manager..... they said theyd just give me a new one.... 2 weeks later it came back....... fixed but not new.... I slapped CM10.2 on it and was super happy. This would be the end of all the warranty issues finally! I then just flashed roms occasionally mainly from Hell Devs and enjoying my time in these threads. I almost crapped my pants when I had Kitkat for the first time . Here we are now though over a year later. Yes this device has caused me many headaches with its somewhat horrible battery life and somewhat odd FC's and RR's but this device is what made me love Android and know that by ditching my iPhone 4 I made the best decision ever! It is now time to say goodbye however. As I have just purchased my first current gen Android device. The Galaxy Note 3! I can't wait to see what lies ahead of me now with this great device and I hope to see many of you over there in the T-Mobile Note 3 Threads! I love you all and thanks so much for making my T989 what it is today, and for making me love android
ps - I messaged a mod about making this thread but never got a reply. I hope its "legal" to post this here, I really wanted to say goodbye and thank you I love you all!!!
I was there too. Have worked up the line through the phones and forums listed in my sig. Good times at each stop.
goodbye! take care!

Generic G4 question

I started with iPhone many moons ago, then transitioned to Android / Samsung back around the S3 days. Been with Sammy ever since, but they are starting to get like Apple in that they are VERY unfriendly to the mod community and they go to great lengths to stop it. They are also killing their phones with Bloatware.
I am toying with going to the G4 with my next upgrade (coming from Galaxy S5). Does LG tend to have a major security war with their users or are they a little more lax? Does rooting void their warranty like it does with Sammy?
Thanks in advance.
~Vol
All root voids warranty first of all, that's why many go back to stock when returning or getting a insurance replacement. Lg is by far one of the easiest phones to get root compared to Samsung even within an app as well. Go with lg, plus the software is by far simpler and not complicated like touchwiz
So LG hasn't pushed anything into their design like that stupid Knox hardware fuse from Sammy that can't be reset once tripped? I have my final choices narrowed down to the G4 or the HTC M8/M9. Since I've never had anything other than Sammy, I'm taking my time deciding here. I'll be stuck with whatever I choose for the next 2 year cycle.
I was a long time Samsung user. I've he Galaxy S2 through S4. I opted for the G3 over the S5 and don't regret it at all. I currently have an AT&T G4, and love it so far....just waiting for root!
If root and unlocked bootloader are essential, I'd wait to get the phone. LG has replied to several queries indicating that they won't be offering an officially unlocked bootloader for any model other than the 815 variant. I haven't seen anything indicating that they'll be fighting the users like Samsung does, but they're not precisely welcoming or accepting that we want to unlock and root our phones either. I'm sure the devs on xda will work around it, but there's no time frame as to when this will happen and it's not guaranteed.
That's helpful info. Root will definitely be essential as I have a car stereo interface app where it's required. Ugh. I hate technology decisions! There's never a black & white winner.

Are you me?
Seriously, I got an H815 but it's a US model with locked bootloader and it's really a drag. I can't decide between this phone or my S5 with everything unlocked and a plethora of ROM options. The camera is soooo good :-\.
Get the g4 and be patient like the rest of us all. You can go and get the m9 but all up to you.

Sorry to go off topic.... tell us about your car stereo interface app that requires root - if you don't mind. Or you can simply PM me if nobody else is interested. Thanks!
Thanks for all the comments. I tried to thank everyone with the links, but the web site tells me I can only do 8 per day.
rfarrah - I have one of the new Pioneer NEX model radios. Pioneer puts out their own interface software, but it is horrid (and has been for years . . . . . . . never any improvements). I use AR Liberator which is awesome, but it has to have root to work. There is another popular third party app called AppRadio Unchained, but I've never messed with it since it costs freakin' $30! Maybe I'm just a cheapskate.

Honor 8 Pro (C432), still no Oreo...

Hey guys,
I've been using my Honor 8 Pro for a year now, I really like it.
But there's a side to Honor/Huawei that I really dislike and that is the lack of software support/updates. I've been waiting for the Oreo update for months now and still nothing. Even worse, I'm still on B185 and check for updates every day and never an update available. We're almost in April and this seems like just lazy company policy. "Screw those 1 year old phones" or something like that.
However, I have been reading on a lot of forums that a lot of people in Europe (C432) have already received the update... What's the holdup? I don't really understand this rollout in phases and how they select IMEIs for receiveing the updates...
Anyone able to tell me what's going on with this? It feels like I'm in a Monty Python's joke or something!
Thanks in advance!
Same here. Looks like nobody in Spain had received the OTA either.
Same here, I'm in Malaysia(C636), still oreo update, although just received B189 update.
Has anyone in Sweden got Oreo ?
Try with Firmware Finder from Huawei.

It doesn't work because the firmware is IMEI linked, so once downloaded you can't install it if your IMEI is not in the list. And if it was in the list, you had had received the OTA. It makes no sense, I know.
Thanks everyone for the responses.
I've tried getting in touch with Huawei/Honor customer support and they're useless... No info whatsoever.
I probably will sell the phone and buy something else, which leaves me a bit sad because I really like this phone... No more Honor or Huawei for me. They're very bad when it comes to software/security updates.
Again thank you everyone for your input!

The update pretty good from me. Bought since july last year, received july, august, september, november, january up until february security patch along with oreo emui 8.0. Yeah i just receive oreo 2 days ago... its pretty late but never mind as its pretty much the same... The only best thing for me is the Game Suite app and can change screen resolution to FHD... Better games frame rate. I'm from Malaysia.

Looks like the EU version (C432) is the forgotten one, stuck with B185 from last September...
I was on B189 before receiving 8.0 in late February (C432). Have you tried to boot it without a SIM card and searching for updates on WiFi?

Yes. And tried Hi-Suite tool too, no success. I've asked in other forums too and looks like they haven't released anything newer than B185 for units sold in Spain

Pixel 2 XL... Yet another "Still worth it?" question

Hey guys! I assume there are many posts about this however I would like to know what you think now in the middle of June, even closer to the release of the Pixel 3. Is the Pixel 2XL still worth it? I'm from the UK and found a deal for £23 a month on a two year contract. I never ever had a Pixel or Nexus device before, always owned HTC devices. To be more precise I owned only htc devices before and I loved them. However they let me down by the lack of support/software updates/security updates in the past couple of years. My previous contract is up and I'm ready to upgrade. I have been waiting for the new htc u12, but read so many bad things about it already though the phone is not even officially released... When the Pixel 2XL was released last year I was actually amazed by the phone and the pure android experience as well as the camera! And I'm still loving the whole phone... So my question is, do you think I should grab that £23/month deal on a 2 year contract, should I wait for the Pixel 3 or that won't be a huge jump (notch is a no go for me!), is the Pixel 2Xl will be a worth to mention phone in the next 2 years? The only thing I'm sure about at the moment that I am sooooo tempted to get it, but also a bit hesitant... What do you think?
I bought mine outright for £629 in April and couldn't be happier. The Pixel 3 XL looks like an incremental release, so I'm happy to wait until the 4 arrives in October next year. The build quality is superb, updates are guaranteed and the phone is, to my mind, the best Android available. I would say go with it, although if you can hold off for a while, the price will drop the nearer we get to the launch of the 3. I hope this helps.
Im a pixel 2 xl user and i really recommend it for you dude you will have an amazing experience. Dont hesitate
? I went ahead and ordered it! ? it's coming on Thursday! Ohhhh the excitement just kicked in! Thank you guys!
Congrats! Enjoy your new device!
You'll never want a non-Google/pure Google phone again. Just the immediate updates alone make this phone sooo much better. I mean, I'm on a very stable Android P, in June, a couple months before its official release, and probably 9+ months at least before any other mainstream phone gets it. Also, this thing is super snappy. It definetely moves faster than my friends iPhones even.
Aaannnddd, if you DO want to get the 3 in October, Google with offer you up to $400-500 (might go up with the 2 xl over the xl) towards your trade in.
I'll seriously never go back.
Thank you everyone! Yes I am extremely excited! Just the fact I never had any other phones before but HTCs and this will be a whole new world for me. It's coming on Thursday so I start reading up all the rooting/flashing guides so when it's here I can start playing with it. ?
You made a good choice - enjoy your new phone!
Then we'll help you root that sucker so you can have some BIG TIME fun! ?????

Haha! ? Thanks! Good to know I'll have some help here if I'm stuck! ? ??
Just ordered mine yesterday and should get it tomorrow afternoon. Been on Android since 2008 and this is my first stock pure-Android experience. Been waiting too long for this!

I agree with this, once I got my Nexus 5, I haven't gone back to non Google phones. If only they were still cheaper like the 5 lol
I just picked one up yesterday. Swapped from an S9+. I love it. The blue shift of the "should have used Samsung" display is there, but it doesn't bother me that much. I don't view my display off angle normally anyways
Pixel 2 XL is pretty much amazing! Cleanest Android experience you can get on the market right now. Growing and decent custom rom support; root support and twrp support. The Pixel 3 probably won't be worth it, the snapdragon 845 isn't that much of an improvement over the 835; unless you really want 4k 60fps video and like 10% performance boost (like nothing in the real world).
Panda color? It's the one

That's true. Stock Android flies on the 835, the SD845 would only help with the 4K 60fps.

I got the ? as well. It looks amazing! I picked tomorrow for delivery as I'm at work today, but already read through all rooting and flashing guides and it seems pretty easy and straight forward! Can't wait to get it, this waiting will kill me today and tomorrow I'll be in the window waiting on dpd... ?
I've just purchased a Pixel 2 XL as well - just a few days ago.
Since the Galaxy Nexus days I've using 'Google' phones. Decided to try a Note 8 and shortly after, decided it wasn't for me. Switched back to the trusty, clean, reliable and bog free Pixel.
I had the Nexus S from Samsung a long time ago. I loved the phone, especially the size and the curved screen. I just couldn't get past how slow it was. That one should not have bared the Nexus name being so slow. I didn't go back to pure Android after that phone because of it. I wish I wouldn't have judged by that phone alone... I've been missing out all of these years.
