ridiculously slow transfer speed - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

PC : HP 250 G4
OS : Linux Mint 18
Device : Pixel XL
im using the type c - type a cable that i received from google.
the problem is transfer speed, it is RIDICULOUSLY slow.
Using the same usb port and cable i can transfer at the rate of 24-28mbps as long as transferring from the phone to the pc. However, when it comes to moving files from the pc to the phone, transfer speeds slow to a crawl, im talking an average 250kbps.
Just for testing, i attached my nexus 5x (same cable and port) and moved the same files back and forth. From the phone to the pc i got an average of 24mbps. Then from the pc to the phone i achieved an average of 18mbps.
This rules out any driver problems, cable flaws, or usb port faults. The only variable left is the device itself. Im currently trying to restore my data after flashing the newest factory image and im getting an eta of 20ish hours. Has anyone had similar experiences?

No, just transferred all my data back, because I made a flash all with latest images. And it was faster than my nexus 6.

[Q] Should I buy This device?

Hi, I'm mainly from the Samsung Galaxy S 4G forum and I am considering buying this device, before I do I would like to ask a few questions:
1. Just 2x checking, this runs an android ICS port, right? if so is it fully functioning?
2. What is your default clocked processor speed?
3. How much RAM & System memory does this have?
4. Are there any major drawbacks to this device?
5. Would the 7 in. screen be an issue for typing notes during my college classes?
6. Is it possible to mount devices (ex. phone, camera, etc..) through your micro USB port with a type B male to A female USB cable?
7. Does anyone have any major regrets about buying this device?
8. How fragile is this device, compared to most phones? (I just want to make sure it wont shatter after a 3 foot drop since i have a baby brother)
9. How is development? How many active devs do you have? (i just want to make sure I'm not buying a device that has a dead dev section)
10. Does this have expandable memory? (ex. micro sd)
Thank you so much and sorry for the newb like questions, I will remove them as I research tonight if I find some answers to these questions.
Thanks Again!

Hope it helps.... emjoy
others have answered the specific questions so here's my take on the general ones:
4. Are there any major drawbacks to this device?
No 3G is a pain in the ass. I feel like I'm limited where I can use this thing fully. If I want to play a little WWF during lunch, I gotta stick to places that have wifi. I can't just whip it out and get directions while out walking, or look something up on the spur of the moment. If you have a phone that can act as a wireless hotspot, this is no biggie.
Also, nothing major but I've found some basic customization and tasks have been a bit harder than expected. It took forever to get a proper screenshot program working... should be built into the OS. I'm still trying to find a randomized wallpaper changer. Little things like that... it seemed like people were on top of this stuff when I looked into customizing my phone.
5. Would the 7 in. screen be an issue for typing notes during my college classes?
I find the screen more than enough to do anything. Feels big and clear. Also, swyping with this thing in portrait mode is perfect, you don't have to be as precise as you would with a phone, but it's not so far between the letters that it slows you down. If you already use swype you'll be golden for note-taking.
7. Does anyone have any major regrets about buying this device?
No, I'm quite pleased with it, and the price is amazing for what you're getting. The lack of 3G still gets on my nerves and I would gladly have paid an extra 50+ bucks to add that functionality.
8. How fragile is this device, compared to most phones? (I just want to make sure it wont shatter after a 3 foot drop since i have a baby brother)
I got a screen protector and a cheapo (like 6-10 buck) carry case. I've dropped it twice from waist level or so and the case kept it fine. I'd say if you get the case you'll be ok, but an unlucky landing facedown onto blacktop might crack the screen or something.
9. How is development? How many active devs do you have? (i just want to make sure I'm not buying a device that has a dead dev section)
I feel like it's pretty good but I don't have much to compare it to. One thing I really liked is the devs made it SOOOO easy to root and install a new rom/os/bootloader/etc. I got the appropriate usb drivers, used the KFU, and in no time I was able to back up my stock image, get a good bootloader going, get a new launcher, get root, and even get some sort of hack that gives you access to both the amazon marketplace and google play store. Most apps I've installed work fine, a handful that were made for the phone do not, but they make it very easy to DL, install, update and uninstall apps.
4. there are some drawbacks:
-no bluetooth
-no volume buttons
-only about 6 GB of useable storage space
-no upgradeable storage (except through mounting something on USB)

[Q] MHL and MTP issues

Here is my question...
I have lost the ability to both see my phone (GSM Galaxy nexus) when connected to my Windows PC and the ability to us HDMI out via the MHL cable. Not sure I've ever seen anyone with this problem before.
Here is what I've done to troubleshoot...
- Ensure MHL/USB cable is working by connecting to my Verizon Galaxy Nexus (yes, I have two Nexii). Tried different charger.
- Tried different TV.
- Rebooted
- reflashed ROM (Modaco)
- Wiped, changed to stock ROM
- Tried different USB cables, USB ports, PCs.
- Rebooted PCs, tried different combinations of plugging cables/ phone in.
- Dug through settings
- Different batteries
- Googled.
If it is a hardware issue, Samsung is saying that they cannot help me with my UK purchased Galaxy Nexus.
Any ideas from the community. My last step is to go in on a Nexus 4...

Sounds like usb port damage. There are plenty of tutorials and information on replacing it yourself or like you said get a new phone. Those that have had your same issue here have also fixed it with realigning the pins in the port using a cocktail sword or something similar. Cleaning it out could help as well

Bluetooth issues

Hi guys, I'm a proud owner of a nexus 5x coming from a nexus 5, I'm happy with the fact that the 5x comes with Bluetooth 4.2 , the signal range in connection is really good HOWEVER for some reason my Bluetooth transfer speed is really slow, to send a 4mb song it takes about 2minutes??? What's going on here, and ive tested it from other Bluetooth devices running bt4.0 and bt4.1, this is really concerning due to the fact I haven't got a type C to USB cable to transfer files yet, so I'm relying on bt4.2 which is supposed to be dramatically improved in transfer speed. I also heard that the 6p also has Bluetooth issues so, I don't know if both phones have this issue?
Please guys help, thanks.

USB-C Hub (USB 3.0, SD/microSD, etc) Compatible with Pixel 2 XL

Anyone have or found a USB-C hub yet that will work with the 2 xl to hook up external HD/thumb drive/microSD/SD cards? Preferably with power input so you can use a powered 3.0 HD like a passport.
When traveling I like to be able to backup my photos from my main cameras (sony Nex 6 and Gopro) to a hard drive or drives, and right now I am using a travel router. It's ok, but the transfer is slow, its a little glitchy, and a little bulky, and I would like to streamline the process and the equipment. I've tried using hubs and cables in the past with my Nexus 7 2013, but it also was not very good and the transfer speeds were awful as I had to go from SD card to tablet, tablet to hard drive. Hoping to go straight SD card to hard drive this time, and at 3.0 speeds if possible.

Following up - something like this (basically a MacBook hub). Anyone have experience with one of these working and any idea what file system formats are supported?

I'm looking for one to transfer my dslr pics to the pixel but the one I have keeps telling me that is unsupported
Comments in this one say someone used it with their camera... no experience myself tho.

Same boat. I would like to use it as a hub/transfer point for my external drive, camera(s), and SD cards and then to maybe let it upload the days shots to my server at home while sleeping (if I have decent wifi).
There are obviously some more options for this coming out with hard drives that handle this specific task, but still not ideal IMO.

I purchase it, let's see if it works. I did a combination of the OTG and a 3.0 usb card reader and I needed to purchase an otg enabler in the play store. That works but is kinda slow reading. Let's see how this new one works

Got this hub, and did NOT worked... Dammit google, this is a must for me... Works with the s8, Moto z2 and even Huawei 6x....
The only way that I can achieve what I want is to use the stock google otg with a 3.0 sdcard reader and the app plugin for solid explorer

Thats a bummer. Using the otg adapter in the box I can see a USB thumb drive no problem, but so far plugging my other USB hubs into that adapter give nothing. Ideally I need a USB 3.0 and SDcard on a hub so I can transfer straight from camera cards to the thumbdrive/external drive. going from the camera to the phone, then phone to the drive is tedious at best.

Question Regarding The Type-C USB 2.0 Port

Hi guys, could you please check somethings for me?
1. What speed or how much time does it take to transfer a file with size 2GB from your PC/ MAC to the OnePlus 11?
2. What speed or how much time does it take to transfer a file with size 2GB from the phone to your PC/ MAC?
3. What speed or how much time does it take to transfer files(audio + video + pics taken using the camera) combined amounting to 2GB from the deice to your PC/ MAC and vice versa?
I am forced to ask this because I always bought the Pro edition of the phones and those always had the best hardware combinations, my current 9 Pro has USB Type-C 3.1, combined with the UFS3.1 I am getting fantastic read write speeds be it one file or numerous files. I am almost sure that the type-C USB2.0 port will be the bottleneck in using the very fast UFS4.0 that the 11 has, it is a shame that the company cheaped out on it, I transfer a lot of data between my phone and PC and this will be the biggest deal breaker for me, hope you guys/ gals assist.

I was able to move a 1GB file to my phone from the PC in roughly 15 seconds
I was able to move that same file back to my phone in roughly 15 seconds
This is the same speed I get with my 9Pro and 8T on the same file.

Where are you seeing this speed, I was talking about connecting the device to a laptop/ PC and then moving files between them, while using my OnePlus 9 Pro in Windows 11, we get a copy action popup that shows only the time needed not the speeds, as @JWhetstone02 said before I am also getting the same speeds on my OnePlus 11 that I got on my 9 Pro, I had moved around 150GB of data in less than an hour, while had more than 2000 folders and 40000 files, the speed for moving data within the phone is stunning, I have seen speeds move above 500MB per second when I used Solid Explorer to move some things around.

You have to use a 3rd party usb cable not the one that comes with the device as they are only usb 2.0. They only have one of the usb 3.0 pins in the cable. You can see the speed by opening up task manager , selecting performance, then selecting your hard drive. If you do this when there is no other activity on the drive you can get a good baseline when you start the coping to and from the phone. The one plus 11 is deffintily at lot slower then my one plus 9 pro. I just got the oneplus 10 pro to replace the 11 and I am so much happier with the speeds.

Actually I am using the USB cable that I got with my 9 Pro, since that phone has a type-C USB3.1 port maybe the cable that came with it is also of the same type, I will check it out with the cable that came with 11, will also checkout the task manager to gauge the speed, good to hear that your issue was solved.
If you got 150gb to move in 30mins that would be on par with the oneplus 9 pro. I was never able to achieve that. My sample size is only 1 phone so that is much so there could be another issue like drivers that play a role.
