[App] [No Root] 45 Fake Apps from Moto Z Stop OTA, MotoCare & A Lot of VZ + Moto Apps - Moto Z Play Themes, Apps, and Mods

[App] [No Root] 45 Fake Apps from Moto Z Stop OTA, MotoCare & A Lot of VZ + Moto Apps
What I have done here is to provide a means of disabling system apps which were not meant to be disabled. The apps come from the latest MM system dump from a VZW Z. They are parsed as genuine updates. These apps crash on our phone (Forced Close or FC).
Here is all the safe fake bunch of ZApps (latest MM) which I have sorted through and have on my VZ phone right now. It was a lot of rebooting and dealing with some persistent FCs (keep SM, link below, under the OK button).
There are numerous FCs on boot but few to none after that, none persistent.
Try them out! See last attachment. About 25 MBs in 45 apps, all not disableable, until now!
For dash 2 phones leave the VZ apps alone. With some apps it is not named as VZ but if the installer does not notify you about it being an update then do not install the fake. Get https://play.google.com/store/apps/...te.com.google.sites.android.appinstallhistory to keep track.
Be aware, what not getting a persistent force close means: if you try one and then uninstall, you must reboot (hold power button) to get the real system app to work again. Read more for uninstall steps.
List of fake apps to nix from safe zip file:
VzwUnifiedSettingsApp breaks Visual voice mail playback.
DroidSettingsExt breaks settings, battery. It also breaks Hotspot and more I am sure. Just uninstall as needed.
Same for SettingsExtn. Breaks Adv Calling, settings.
Also Fake GPS notifier sends Google maps into a tizzy after a while.
Example for Fake Motocare:
Enable Dev options, show sys processes, notice motocare runs 24/7.
Download MotoCare.apk in attachments, at bottom of post, which is a Moto Z app.
Install/Update this MotoCare with this foreign app.
Motocare is no longer in processes.
Example for Fake motocheckin (OTA-Update):
Download 3c_checkin.apk in attachments, at bottom of post, which is a Moto Z app.
Install/Update 3c_Checkin.apk with this foreign app.
When you check for updates (pic 2) it fails.
You can return the phone to normal update ability by uninstalling the z app.
Go settings, apps, show system apps (3dots), find moto checkin, choose disable. Reboot not needed.
There is no stock app to uninstall these foreign updates. But be assured:
Super Manager uninstalls these apps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gpc.myweb.hinet.net.TaskManager
Free version works fine.
See pic 3 & 4.
Also these all system app updates persist in safe mode.
With the Fake motocheckin in control you must put up with a total of 2 forced closes after a boot up. As well as when an update becomes available. There is something else that calls on it sometimes when no update is ready.
The checkin app is one of the keys to the update process.
One link I found: https://www.darklaunch.com/2015/04/10/disable-motorolaota
I posted at the Lenovo forum. I wonder how long they will permit my post.
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-Z...-Nougat-until-stable-operation-is/m-p/3546371
I was so bummed about the Debloater ADB being foiled by our latest patch, I tried what worked on my Maxx years ago.
WARNING THE ABOVE MODS I DEEM TO BE SAFE ON OUR PHONE. YET YOU ARE USING THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK. USING THE OTHER APPS BELOW MAY LEAVE YOUR PHONE FORCE CLOSING AND SAFE MODE MAY NOT HELP. YOU MAY HAVE TO RESORT TO A DATA RESET FROM RECOVERY.
Update, I have tried many of these apps and none do anything but cause a persistent FC.
Apps from a system dump.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/themes-apps/moto-z-dump-t3413718
My condensed (privapp & app only) Mega link 900 MB, see attachments
Use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.zdevs.zarchiver
I encourage others to see what other tweaking we can achieve by installing other useless 'Z apps..
This statement does not apply to the attachments:
For those that may get a persistent FC, I got one and I thought I would have to FDR.
I did have S Manager right beneath the OK button. So with quick fingers I was able to uninstall the offending app.

If any have not taken the Dec patch, you are elected (lol) as a tester. Please test this?
Thank you.

I have android security patch up to July 1st and build mcl24.246-36
I'm thinking of trying this, but unsure what exactly I need to do.
I see mention of a checkin app, but when I click on the link it says root is required, and my moto z is the verizon version, and so I don't think can be rooted.

Look down to bottom of post. Do you see attachments?
If not get a browser
Just click on the attachment and install.
That link is only to show evidence of it working.

yep, I see the attachments. I'll try it later and report back
edit: I only observed one "motocare has stopped" message upon boot.
was the second force close message also for motocare? or for 3c_checkin?
edit 2: it works! not ota update messages since installing the motocare and 3c_checkin above

So far I haven't seen the force close message for 3c_checkin (one the one for motocare), however the ota update message has seemingly been disabled. So I can verify this worked for me :good:

Please post a SS of your sw patch date.

Here you go

Ok people,
Please post if the OTA stopper works (or not) on the Jan patch.
So others, including me, may safety continue blocking N 7.0 while on the Jan. patch. Nougat should be a train wreck for Music players....
Thank you

I found out for myself. Fake Motocheckin still works on the January patch.

Updated OP new fake apps extending battery ? life.

The following is superceded by the 45 app attachment in OP.
Removed (installed fakes) NFC and Beam from VZW phone!!
See screen shot
Many other apps and processes too.
Edit, Omit (disable from settings, apps OR uninstall from SM):
package access helper, it is needed in the install process.
EAB, used to view contacts.
Adding Keychain (fake) actually streamlines browser password logins!
But breaks call History.
There are 10 FCs only on boot up.
Oh yea, for pic 2, fake apps stop with DM service. This pic should have been last.

CM7 Market problems since last week

Hey people,
I'm currently located in China and I've got serious problems with the Market lately.
I'm using and been using CM7 on my Moto Defy for months (almost since CM7-Jordan beginning) and I've never had such Market problems before.
So I'm wondering if
1) other users from China can tell me if things are the same (or fine) for them?;
2) anyone have hint/suggestion on how to fix this after reading what I did/observed here?:
First, I'll say again that I've never had problems with Market before; none getting it installed (through gapps zip) on CM7 when updating/reflashing ROM or Nand backups/ none with downloading or upgrading apps with the Market app.
But all in a sudden last week, I noticed that the Market was not reacting quickly. I was testing 111004-1128 nightly (which has a newer Superuser file included) then after SU updated itself automatically [coincidence???], all things broke loose, Market would not connect and give me errors. SU would also alway stay in the "Not Installed" List of my Market apps (even after reboots and logins).
I've then tried to install the Superuser Market update fixer app (big mistake I think now) but that just made things worst. In an effort to get the Market going again, I did clean it's cache and eventually it's data which basically resetted all my listed apps in the Market.
Following all that, I did numerous fresh installs [maybe 10 at this point]: RSDL Froyo flashing and CM7 and gapps installs [with and without restoring old working CWM backups] and with countless install combinations of older CM7 builds and gapps versions.
On August's gapps, Market always gives me the "No connection Retry" even if I can get connected to Google services since my wifi indicator turns blue or green (depending on theme/CM7 build used) and Talk and Gmail logs in fine.
On June's gapps, login seems fine: I can browse apps but as soon as I try downloading something, I get stuck at Downloading 0%... and it seems to put the servicee in some sort of bootloop since and other apps icons do not display until I get "Download failed to install - Try again" and click OK. Market will also FC as soon as I select anything from the "Just in" sections.
I've tried clearing Market's cache many times, started Talk, signed out and back in, let my wifi on all night to leave Market to update. I've even created a new gmail account and tried it on yet another fresh install with June gapps; nothing works and this drive me nutts!!
I can go on my desktop, use a VPN service to log in to my Market account and install something from there; it will be pushed on my phone alsmost right away. But again I can't install anything from the phone no matter what.
That would be fine with me, but that means that for any special apps that otherwise would require me to use Market Enabler, I will not be able to do it from the desktop either.
It's not a question of having DroidWall or anything else I've installed blocking something out; like I wrote; I've tried many clean installs without restoring or installing anything...: same.
So, has The Great Firewall" finally caught up to Android Market and stopping use of any Vending.apk from withtin China? Are they recent changes from Google? Or am I having other Market setup/install problems here? What's your take on this?
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help in advance.
Cheers.
And PLEASE do not "full quote" this long post (sorry for that btw) .
Market has been blocked by GFW. I can't access it either unless using VPN.

This sounds not so far fetched..
I live in the US, and I see the same type of behavior at my college.
I can get to the app, but when downloading it sits there for a century.
the idea of censorship isn't something I would blame, nor shrug.
Her are a few things I should try...
Use a spare gmail account to test with, and see if you can reproduce the same results...
Try and use that same vpn, configured through your phone this time, and disable any apn/data settings other than wifi... Now try.
Edit:
P.s. What ROM are you using? The cm team has a stable out now.. Guide that a shot...

My OP was a long one, but I think that i did mention somewhere that I've tried a new gmail account with same result.
My vpn use encryption and will not work on defy ;(
Strangely, from all my recent tries at getting gapps to work properly, it seems that I can only use 2G data to do the first account setup. And that seems to 'work' only with June gapps package.
Recent update (on RC1.5):
I've also managed to get my installed apps listed again by playing around with 2G data and installing and uninstalling a standalone 3.1.3 Vending apk as update and undo it.
I was able to download 2 or 3 apps (out of 50 trials) also by fiddling w data enable/disable.
But again, never before, in 4-5 months using CM7, I had to turn on data past the initial Google setup and I've never had any download issues either....
So i don't think that it's related to TGFW and will keep digging...
On 7.1 now but no change..as
I did flash june gapps w 7.1 but never got any setup to do since no factory reset. Will try a clean install tomorrow or the day after...
Thanks for your reply.
OK I finally got it to work after all.
I just tried to fix the fix the problems caused by the new Superuser update after trying a recent nightly in just the worst possible way over and over.
So what you have to remember is:
1- to NOT signin to your Google account using data and do it over wifi. So select "Skip" on the screen showing "Create an account", "Sign in" or "Skip" and go ahead with other settings: your baseband, wifi and especially turning off "Data enabled".
2- always use the latest gapps version, not the June one like I tried many times
3- Install gapps along with a fresh CM7 zip install; not a nand restoration.
4- after reboot (if needed by Defy Baseband Switcher) just press the Market icon and set up your account then
So wipe data, cache and Dalvik and install CM7 zip (RC1.5 is a good one to start with) and and latest gapps zip and follow the above.
Sorry for this useless thread and for me trying to get this working like a chicken without a head
So @ TimelesslyPrecise: if your downloads do not start, it might as well be because you did setup your account over data the first time.
So just start from scratch again:
- backup your apps [with TB, the newest (and free) Astro file manager or other];
- do a fresh CM7 install (no need to reflash Froyo) but do as above;
- restore your apps;
- then just click on the Market icon and sign in.
Don't worry if at first your apps are not listed under "My apps"; they will eventually come back with usage.
@xcjiang: yeah I knew that, but that doesn't mean that the Market app on the phone doesn't work.
Sorry again about that.
Cheers.
Didn't worked for me...
Instead I found cause and solution elsewhere http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295222
To cut the story short, problem is in way that Market don't get DNS right.
Solution is to install app that will change DNS for every wifi connection DNS to OpenDNS (my choice) or GoogleDNS. I'm using DNS Changer.
Now enjoy superfast Market

I Also did have the Google Play Services that was using 85% of my battery consumption.
I was using the latest version. It did not change.
BUT, It's not the Google Play Services itself, but the location Services.
So go into settings then locations. You will probably have modus big accuracy, change it in only device (GPS).
I did it this weekend. Today after 10h 15m on batterie Google Play Services isn't even mentioned
I'm getting a good battery life in daily routine too. I think one reason is Stamina Mode. I think it needs some time to get use to how user is working with the phone and by time it starts to save the phones battery.

Would backing up my phone, via PC companion, doing a factory reset, installing the update, then reloading the backup onto my phone be a good idea? I really rather not go through the hassle of setting up everything again

If by backing up your phone you mean like, keep contacts, bookmarks, messages, etc. yes it's a good idea. But if you mean to keep apk's data that would be a bad idea as it may exist the possibility that some apps might crash. (Especially Sony ones due to new API and framework changes).
it works for me, the only issue that i have is when im playin some games ... example " super stick man golf 2 " i turn off the screen and i cant go back to the game, i msut close app and reopen is anoying to do that, after that im vaery happy and pictures and very good more than 4.3

[Q] Google Play Store Keeps Crashing on Rooted Note 4, What to do?

I have a Sprint Note 4 which is rooted and yesterday I downloaded Lucky Patcher and the Modded Google Play Store to replace my stock Google Play Store. So through Titanium, I backed up the stock Google Play Store and then I uninstalled it, since the Modded Google Play Store would not let me install it without doing that. I also cleared the cache and data on Google Play Store and now it just keeps crashing all the time. When I try to download something, it starts to download and then immediately it crashes and gives me the "Unfortunately, Play Store has stopped working" error. I get the error no matter which version of Play Store I use now, whether it is the modded or the official version. I tried clearing data/cache to Google Play Services as well, to no avail. When I try to restore my backup of Google Play Store through Titanium it stays frozen with "Restoring Google Play Store 5.1.11" and I end up having to force stop Titanium. This is so annoying! What can I do? Thanks so much in advance!!!
1) Go to Application manager/All, scroll down to where you find these three: Google Services Framework, Google Play, and Google Play Services. Force stop and delete cache and data for the first two (in order given). You won't be able to force close Google Play Services but choose Manage storage and scroll to bottom to clear all data. It's annoying that they may try to restart, just clear again and reboot quickly.
2) If that doesn't work, got a nandroid backup?
3) Re-flash current ROM, if no.
4) If stock and no backup, consider another ROM or start over with Odin stock tar.
Note: options 3 and 4 may require clean install.
Note 2: I've tried to suggest from least inconvenience to most; hopefully, the easier methods will do.
Edit: you may also see an option to uninstall update to revert to the original system application; consider that as option 2 or 3 for Google Play.

Ok I just did that now when I run Play Store it doesn't crash, instead it is says " Check your internet connection and try again" It seems as if it isn't recognizing that I actually do have a connection? I heard that if you go to the files on the phone to "etc/hosts" file and put a "#" in front of the second IP address in the hosts file that it will work but I just tried that and it didn't so I reverted the file back.
Also I tried going to settings>accounts and removing my Google accounts and re adding them but Play store still says I have no connection (which I clearly do). I made sure my date/time settings are right as well. This is happening with the modded play store and the official 5.2.12 Play Store.
YouTube randomly crashes now as well and gives me "unfortunately, YouTube has stopped " Google play store is still not recognizing that I am connected. I think I have tried just about anything besides flashing back to the stock ROM
Did you try step one again after swapping the Google Play versions? Worth a try, if you didn't.
One more thing: Lucky Patcher creates an Odex file. You should use the Lucky Patcher option to remove the Odex and restore the original. If you're ROM is deodexed, Titanium may not fix this for you. You can manually check for Odex file as well. Titanium is also useful to check for unneeded dalvik-cache files.
And one last suggestion I omitted: in recovery, delete all cache and dalvik cache and reboot.

Hmmm it is working now after hours of fumbling around with settings. Both the Modded and official newest Google Play Stores started working after I turned off "Google License Verification Emulation" and I had to turn off "Google Billing Emulation". Very stressful lol but they were the default settings and I didn't really want to mess with any of the settings as I am just starting with Lucky Patcher.

Was that Google Play version 5.2.12?
I flashed that to system yesterday and everything was working except that it didn't populate my applications and notify updates until a day later. I had to search for updates that I knew were available. Today, the apps populated and I got update notification for available updates. I think it may be part of the battery savings that lollipop is supposed to be bringing; less Google Play wakes.
Consider that your manipulation results may have been skewed by Google not immediately syncing the update.
As for my experience, I did find myself doing step one and considering flashing the nandroid but waited for applications to sync. They did finally sync this morning. The longer sync of apps may have been induced locally by the use of Xposed module "Recent Apps" which can be configured to force close apps and remove from recents, reducing wake times.

No, it is the Modded Google Play Store version 5.1.11 right now that's working but there's a newer version of it that is out. The # is used in scripts to comment out; meaning ignore that line in your host file.
As far as LP, there is a help link to read. Discussion threads on LP may get closed on XDA; LP may be a useful tool but leans toward piracy. Not saying this pertains to you but there was a thread that the developer participated in that xda allowed to remain open with a warning. That should be sufficient, unless closed as well.
Edit: found the thread and warning http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45933638, post 21.

Google Store Crashing but only when rooted.
Why is it that when running stock lollipop 5.1.1 on Galaxy S6 Edge is it that Google Play Store constantly crashes when I'm rooted.
When no root it works fine and dandy.
Soon as rooted the bloody thing crashes constantly..
The only way I managed to keep rooted was to use stock google play store and prevent it from updating.
This I can cope with.. If anyone else has come across this issue and found a better way to fix it please let me know
My note 4 lollipop 5.1.1 device has rooted but fix problem in Google play when I update big file(like no system apps) apps so when it's completely update after start beginning wht can I do it

Hey guys, I've disabled update notifications through play store and I've disabled auto update system under developer settings as well but this keeps popping up every now and then and I can't figure out to block it. I'm rooted on August 2019 pie build. I've searched the services for play services and play store and can't find anything related to what this update might be from.
I've searched around Google and XDA and haven't found anything regarding this specific pop-up. Anyone have any info?
Following..
I have same issue, but mine is more out-of-date than yours! [emoji16]
Hopefully we'll get some answer here, I have not been able to prioritize this issue in normal life, and this holiday season is not giving me any more time for sure...

The annoying part is it doesn't pop up as a notification or an app that would show up in overview mode otherwise I could just long press on it and figure out what process it's coming from. I gotta figure it's from one of the play services but there's so many different ones and nothing I've seen really stands out like updater or anything like that.
Just letting you know, if it pops up & you accidentally hit the update button, turn off wifi & data, then clear the cache/storage on Google Play Services to stop the update.

I think the process is android system, notification section, it should be listed as download or update or very similar, just turn it off.

This is funny. People are here denying updates, and I'm here wondering where my Dec update is. I still haven't gotten it along with a ton of others.

I'm on a 3a xl and I got my update Dec 2nd. You can always manually Flash the update it's all ready to download
Also interested in blocking this popup.
Bump
Just found this command to try in another system update blocking thread. Trying it out now. Not sure how often the pop-up appears but I usually see it about twice a week
pm disable com.google.android.gms/.update.phone.PopupDialog
I haven't seen any negative side effects to using this yet but if someone thinks so please let me know.
@CruelSun @ShatteredHalo
Just to let you guys know the command I previously posted has worked. It's been over 2 weeks now and it has not popped back up at all and nothing is broken that I've noticed so far.

There is nothing with update or updater listed that I can delete when I use titanium. I think Google combined it with play services.
Any idea where it would be located for manual deletion? I've searched through both system and priv apps folders and found nothing that would indicate it is the system updater?

Does the "pm disable com.google.android.gms/.update.phone.PopupDialog" need to be run on a rooted device?
I tried on my unrooted pixel 5, but get the following error. Unfortunately I can't root because of my banking apps.
Code:
adb shell pm disable com.google.android.gms/.update.phone.PopupDialog
Exception occurred while executing 'disable':
java.lang.SecurityException: Shell cannot change component state for com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.update.phone.PopupDialog to 2
at com.android.server.pm.PackageManagerService.setEnabledSetting(PackageManagerService.java:21042)
***
I found the answer myself. YES it needs root
I have tried to run this 'pm disable' command and run into the Java error. I am rooted, though with ADB, trying to gain root or anything, everything seems to get a 'permission denied' error.

Question Android 13: APKs not from PlayStore now crashes at the opening

Hi
I was on Android 12 and signed in to the beta program 10 days ago.
I've noticed that APKs that were fine on Android 12 are not working anymore on Android 13 Beta.
APKs are crashing at opening.
I thought that may have been an issue related to the beta version of Android but couple of days ago Android 13 stable rolled out (I've signed out from the beta) but those apps are still not working.
I've found older APKs for a couple of apps and one works and one not.
How can I solve this without a factory reset?
Thank you in advance
What are the apps that are crashing? What does a logcat show when the app crashes?
Google introduced restrictions in A13 for side loaded apps. No longer can they use accessibility apis nor can they access notifications etc. Just speculation but if the apps you are using are old they may be crashing because of these changes.

You can bypass those restrictions by going to the app info page of the app and clicking on the 3 dot menu in top right corner.

Wasn't aware of this, thanks!
I don't have any issues with manually installed apks...
Hi, i have the same Problem with every sideloaded App.
There are no 3 dots in the right Corner.
I don't know exactly how to bypass Them
Waiting till the weekend to update, but what APKs are giving the error?

Do those apps need Accessibility and/or Notification Access permissions? If not, then I don't think the 3 dot menu needs to be there as it is only for those specific permissions (or whatever other permissions Google might add to the list in the future).
For example, I have Adaway installed but it doesn't have the 3 dot menu because it doesn't need either of those permissions. The same for App Manager.
I am really confused with this new "session-based install" security.
What are "session-based install" and "non-session-based install"
Play store app install --------- surly "session-based install" 100%.
3rd-party store install --------- is said also to be "session-based install".
Firefox download an apk --------- is said to be "non-session-based install",
But how the firefox different from a 3rd-party store????? a system white list something?
safetynet, selinux, forcing many settings, anti-rollback, non-store app restrictions.........
I enjoyed so much that google throws sht tons of troubles to billions of advanced users, to fight an enemy that may not even exist.
(how many people have their phone bootloader secretly unlocked remotely by a hacker and installed root malware, unknowingly?)
Gives a warning is good eg. bootloader locked warning is great IMO. But force the hands and keep finding ways to screw the advanced users as hard as they can, to get the "everything is under my control" status is the wrong path.
I read the news that malware devs have already found a way to bypass this restriction.
In the end, like many others, It achieved nothing, except giving trouble to advanced users and devs.
A global bypass must be also on the way, especially from China. Millions like 90% of APPs are not store-based in China since the google ban, and people are used to download apk from every companies' websites as we do on Windows PC.

3 APKs from the company I'm working for (not on PlayStore) 2 sideloaded apps, and a LADB signed sideloaded APK
For example you cut and CC cleaner keeps crashing all the time.
Same here. Almost every app not from Play Store keeps closing right on tap to start them.
Tried to sideload them per USB with full rights. Same.
My company apps that didn't come from the play store are opening without a problem
Thats Vers Strange, indeed.
Every sideloaded App, modded or Not does Not work
Thought it was me...this is bs!
What's the next step...start posting logs I assume?
It's not EVERY sideload for me but about 1 in 3 I'd say.
btw...I got an 'install failed' trying to install/flash the viper4android mod not realizing how old it was...now I'm seeing lotsa audio/sound related crap in logcat reader. If I AM 'currupt' somehow, will just a rom re-flash fix a magisk issue or do I need a full wipe?
Tia for any guidance offered!

Me too but looks like is some security thing from Android 13. I really hope that somebody finds a workaround soon or I'll have to switch back to 12

12 won't work right on the 13 bootloader, and you can't downgrade the bootloader.
When I initially tested flashing only the 13 bootloader on my Pixel 6 Pro, while still running Android 12, it booted fine, I unlocked the phone, and all looked normal. But I didn't launch apps, especially Chrome, YouTube, and plenty of other things. If I had, I would have noticed problems that others have had since then. It was since found that certain/many kinds of apps will not work right running on Android 12 when you have the 13 bootloader installed.
I know this above is not what this thread is discussing, but since you mentioned it, I just wanted to point out that if you're on any Pixel 6/Pro/a with Android 13's bootloader flashed, you won't be able to use stock Android 12 on it. You'll be able to flash everything but the bootloader, boot it up, and unlock it, but before long you would discover problems that you wouldn't be able to work around and would effectively make your phone unuseable for many things that we take for granted.
By the way, hopefully you have the 13 bootloader flashed to both slots. Having the 13 bootloader on only one slot is a little dangerous.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot --slot all flash bootloader bootloader.img
Guys, but are you talking of sideloaded apps, or apps installed as apk?
