Unlimited data hotspotting - Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Questions & Answers

I have been searching for a while now and can not find an answer anywhere. I have a Samsung Galaxy s7 Active, a Samsung Galaxy s5, and a Samsung Galaxy Express 3. I have AT&T service with grandfathered Unlimited data. As you all know AT&T will not let you hotspot with the unlimited package.
But SOMEBODY has to have a way around it for one of the three phones I have. Hotspot is my only option for Internet because I live way out in the Styx and I'm not paying the insane prices satellite Internet charges way out here for such a small data package.
If somebody has a way to use my unlimited data package on one of these three phones I will swap my SIM card out whenever I want to hotspot.
Thank you in advance for your help.

As far as the s7 active goes I hear some people on the s7 active root (success) thread saying that the android 7.0 update they found allows you to use the native hotspot without having to root your phone and without having to subscribe to a hotspot plan. Don't know about the other phones as I never had them before.

Thanks I will try that

[Q] detection of free tethering with Verizon

Hi all
Please help ansswering any or all of the following:
1- can you tether with verizon without rooting the phone, just by somehow
creating new access point?
2- do you need to root in order to tether?
3- Will verizon find out you are tethering without the tethering plan and charge you for it?
i will bank everything that it is blocked !
We don't know yet how they will handle it because Verizon has never had a Nexus device. Sprint and AT&T block it, T-Mobile does not. On carriers where it is blocked, it has always been rather easily circumvented.

This is what people are doing to get unlimited.

I had unlimited on my one line but added the gf so i can get the nexus. Not sure how long this will last.

I believe you either need root, or one of the various apps like PDANet that might or might not work without root.
As far as being caught... easiest thing to do is not be stupid. If you've averaged 4GB/Month and then suddenly spike to 20 they'll probably suspect something. I tether with my rooted Incredible often enough, but I don't download torrents or anything... mainly MUDs or simply the want of a larger/more powerful means of web browsing.
Tapatalk Pro Sig. Yep, boring.

Fool proof tether? I got a msg from Tmobile

Is there any fool proof method that works for not being detected for tethering?
Just received a push message from Tmobile
Free T-Mobile Msg: To prevent future Smartphone Mobile HotSpot (Tethering) access from being blocked, add Smartphone Mobile HotSpot service here.

The system they use to detect tethering might not be perfected, I got one of those messages while using the browser on my phone.
Interesting, I'm just not trying to take a a chance of being kicked out my contract and I be damned if I'm paying for it... Refuse to go back to sprint

Basically since they came out with the unlimited 4g plan they have started monitoring it closely. There is one way around it that works for a while and if you dont use alot of data they wont detect it. But if you stream alot of netflix and stuf they will figure it out. You have to usd chrome on your computer and then get an app from the chrome store called user agent spoofer it tbink I5 is called. Then you set your user agent to firefox 3 or 4 and you shkuld be good. Actually the best way to do it is to use the android user agent because then it cant tell that you are not using your phone. The problem roblem with 5hat is you lose flash and some other stuff
What does the message say so far this month I have used 6.6 gb and still have about 10 days left on my cycle and last month I used about 4.5 gb. Haven't got a message from them yet
Probably a better way to ensure they can't track you is to set up a VPN on your laptop or tablet, like using your work or school.
Route all traffic through there and T-Mobile should have no way to tell what you're doing. Assuming encryption.

People like you are the reason Unlimited data doesn't exist on most carriers any more, and the reason T-Mobile will probably yank ours before long. That's solid work, way to ruin it for everyone.

Typically you can "end-around" the restrictions on tethering and creating mobile hotspots, but carriers are getting increasingly savvy about detecting this (though there is not a great deal of intelligence about the exact methods used by each carrier) and ultimately shuffling customer into plans that include tethering. If you choose to go down this path, I would recommend using it sparingly, and prepare for the possibility of a plan change.
Thanks!

Thank you! right now im already in a plan that includes hotspot but ATT charges an arm and a leg for this service! Im just looking for a work-around these charges and maybe bring my bill down but it may not be worth it if they can detect and change your plan automatically. Thanks again for the input!

They won't change it automatically, at first. They will send you a nice letter advising you are tethering and currently do not have a plan that supports it. I used it 1 day for an hour recently and got the letter. I have unlimited data and think they are specifically targeting these plans to get us off of them.

Question regarding Verizon mobile tethering

Good afternoon XDA, long time lurker first time poster.
A bit of info regarding my situation.
I currently have a Verizon Note 8 purchased direct from samsung, and have a grandfathered unlimited data plan from maybe 7 years ago. My issue is that tethering is no longer possible for me, and i was advised that I need to change to a new unlimited plan from verizon. I have heard some things regarding switching to this new plan with regards to throttling speeds, etc.
I have heard that getting an unlocked phone resolves this problem however getting a new phone is not possible for me at the moment.
Also, a famous mobile tethering app also seems to not work anymore after Nougat update.
Can anyone advise on the best solution possible?
You can't add the hotspot through the my Verizon app? I can add and delete mine on the fly...
You should be able to u just have to pay the extra charge for tethering.... "don't" change your plan

Question... should I purchase the Verizon or an Unlocked version Note 8

I am still on Verizon's grandfather unlimited data plan and I work remotely from home so, I need my hotspot. Is it easy or even necessary to root this device to enable the hotspot capability as I have it on my old rooted Samsung S5? (Yes, I am still holding to it only because of this convenience but, my phone is unbearable slow now after all of these "app updates").
Not necessary as I understand. Settings, Mobile hot spot and tethering

No it's not easy to root. If you do it, you will only get 80% battery charge. Verizon's will be unlocked or you can flash unlocked software to Verizon which would make it the same as buying Samsung unlocked. I can't say on tether hack but I feel like I've seen something on it somewhere, asked somewhere else. Maybe try Reddit's Verizon page or Reddits Verizon Unlimited page as well if it's not here.

I know were it would be located in settings but, not necessary trying to kick my carrier anymore money on top of my bill doing it the conventional way.

Both of these threads I listed have recent success stories for grandfathered unlimited hacks. The answer just may not be in the first post.
