that's the link for the docking cab of build 14393.448:
Code:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/dflt/2016/11/microsoft.ms_docking.mainos.cbs_7f41c945c5c080e97ab97a5af2318c60198e8f9c.cab
that does not mean it will work. i never tried this because i am sure it won't work.
afaik it's a hardware limitation of micro-usb and usb-c (3.0) is needed for it to work.
the snapdragon 801 supports usb 3.0 already but that doesn't help in that case.

Thank you sir! Just Updated smoothly! I've got the docking brick available to me to use tomorrow so I'll check it out and let you all know how it goes. I'm sure you're right about the hardware limitation but lately I've been really interested on how these updates and spoofing work so well. The jump from 8.1 to 10 especially... In my way to put it, it's almost as if it doesn't flash on pre determined partition tables/device specs and more so to do with the registry and building the jump off of what is currently available in the registry.. Neat stuff! Although these are my assumptions. If anyone knows what actually goes on during the update process feel free to school me

I was curious to see how the docking experiment went...

Jasjar serial cable

Anyone know if an RS232 cable is available for the Jasjar yet or have I got to use one of these awful RS232/USB convertors?
Regards
did you ever get a lead that worked ? I can't find one and I'm trying to work out if I can hack my old IPAQ one up. cheers

A converter isn't going to work. They all require a USB Host port.
yes
also interested into this old fashionned but necessary tool to console to routers for example.
so up for this topic
I am interested also.
I was thinking about this a while back though. I think the only way this is going to work really is through a bluetooth or IR adapter.
Obviously those would require external power. Doing it with an IR adapter should be relatively easy to program, something along the lines of a PIC 16F64 or 18F452 would be more than enough. However, would it be usable? When controlling a router I would like to use the keyboard. The IR points dirctly towards the user.
However, I have little experience in how BT works, so would not be able to even think on how that would work.

Its a guide to making a GPS IRDA but I'm sure it could be suitably modified.
Bluetooth to usb
How about this: http://www.neteon.net/cat.aspx?clvl=3&c1=1&c2=177&c3=107
It's a serial to Bluetooth dongle. I don't see any WM drivers but I would think that the bluetooth stack on the latest "cooked" ROMS would support serial host since that is what most bluetooth GPS receivers use.
If it wheren't for the $108 price tag I would grab one of these myself and see if it worked.
Maybe in a few weeks. If someone else gets a chance to try this one, please post here and let us know.

Can Desire work as USB host?

Hi. I'm wondering if desire can work as a USB host like droid does? I cannot post links, but I think you know what I'm talking about. Would be nice to use a real keyboard with it..
I can't add anything useful so this is a shameless bump I'm afraid!
As far as I know though, USB Host is a software or firmware capability, and that for a few years USB hardware has been capable of both (cheaper to make one chip than two).
Would be fantastic to copy images etc off to a portable hard disk.

Actually im pretty sure it's different chip. For example, the HTC G1 was possibly the most hevily modified phone in history and they never got usb host on it. The different chipset is called USB OTG http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go Ive spent ages looking for datasheets to find out if we have a compatable chipset but could never find any.
removed, not relevant

oups, jumped the gun, this is not what it was about, I have no idea if the Desire can do that, I'd be interested if it could though
I think it´s posible...
Don give up yet ppl, our desire it´s perfectly capable usb-otg device. They omitted this feature because of deadlines, desire hd and z have it and htc plans on marketing an dlna adapter in q4 for them.
Notice desire (bravo) capabilities before reaching the market : http://gdgt.com/htc/desire/specs/
and after http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2251&c=htc_desire_htc_bravo . Knowing that I´m searching the web for hacks to enable usb-otg on mi bravo like the guy that did it on his droid. cheers

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702742 - USB Host mode for Desire
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694427 -Nexus One USB host driver
Hardware on Desire(Bravo) and Nexus One(Passion) are nearly identical to each other internally.
From what I remember of the Nexus One thread (I owed a N1 before my Desire) you need a special cable (in order to provide power to the secondary device) and special drivers (to provide the host side) but it is possible.
edit: and I forgot, you need to flash the kernel, to use USB host mode, Flash back to use USB slave mode.

USB Host does nothing? :(

So my USB host wire came today! i plugged in my flash drive and nothing... No messages no LED lights... nothing.... I tried plugging in a keyboard and nothing happen either... I am using calkulins e4gt 2.9. I tried looking in the ROM's thread with the search feature I found someone asking the same question but no replies...
Does anyone have any ideas?
who said usb host was working?
USB host support has not been included in any ROMs/kernels as of today. hopefully some devs start to take an interest (like jamcar, who is trying to get it working on his DARKSTAR rom) but DO NOT pester the devs for this tho, if you ask once and it goes ignored, leave it.

if by stock firmware you mean Android 2.3.x i dont believe so - it was only working with the initial stock firmware for the int'l version at release then for whatever reason Samsung decided to disable the feature and every update after that had it disabled. but from conversing with jamcar:

it seems much more likely that with all the buzz and releases/tune ups for ics roms, some devs might add the necessary drivers/etc to wake it up

afaik, hes the only one trying to incorporate it. and for that he gets props
I thought usb host would have to be enabled by the kernel not just the rom. Such as how it works on the tmobile version by flashing a custom recovery kernel. Darkstar rom might support it, but it has to be done in the kernel also, but I may be wrong.
I hate when they have a feature then take it away.... WTF is the reasoning behind it?! people would buy less Samsung laptops or something?! Arg... Now i wish i went with another brand...

i actually think its the other way around. according to jamcar, its already present in the kernel. and i think because he saw that, he thought it would already be supported in his rom when it evidently is not (dont mean to put so much pressure on him)

To shed some light on this situation the international galaxy s2 has had this feature from day 1. It was also used in the marketing of the s2 as a feature Samsung was proud of. Long story short sprint had Samsung pull it from our device. I have no info as to why Sprint had them do this. Kind of like how Sprint had them pull the nfc chip without any explanation i guess...

No you cant use a gsm kernel on a cdma phone but the usb host code is a part of android since honeycomb. ICS has it too. Hopefully it will get re-enabled once we have a stable ICS OTA.

USB OTG/Host Mode

Now that the source code has dropped, are any developers considering adding USB OTG/Host Mode anytime soon? I'd be willing to donate if someone got it working or was actively working on it.
For anyone wondering what this is: USB OTG/Host Mode allows you to connect other devices to your E4GT (IE: Flash Drive, HDD, Keyboard, Monitor, DLSR Camera, etc.) and use/access them. It is supported by the International SGS2 and the US Carriers, but for some reason Sprint disabled this functionality in the kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802740 credit for this link goes to dberend! It's a usb otg helper link, but our phone are missing some modules if I understand correctly. They end in the file extension ".ko"
Last I heard Agats kernel was recognizing that a OTG device was connected! I'm not sure if it is working completely yet though.
Responses are appreciated!

USB OTG/Host Mode lets you connect a USB device to your E4GT, like a Thumb Drive, External Hard Drive, Keyboard, xBox Controller, etc. It's useful for a variety of reasons.
If this is in the wrong section, will a mod move it? Thanks in advance!
Why would you want to reprogram a perfectly good chip?

Yeah its a very useful feature. I heard a few people mention the E4GT supports it, but that it was disabled in the kernel
It doesn't appear that very many people are interested in this, should I let this thread die?
i am still interested in this
I would use this function for sure.. even though you can already make these by combining a power cord with some kind of microUSB-to-USB adapter.. basically a "powered" mUSB-to-sUSB adapter..
Before I read about them, I bought an adapter that I thought would work, but not the right one.. then I read about making them yourself is possible.. but I never tried it yet..
If they were an already built accessory, I would use it to mount a multi-port USB hub, then connect a keyboard and mouse.. I of course would need to figure out how to use both the HDMI out AND the USB hub.. it would be seriously sick to use your phone literally like a mini PC!

The SGS2 International and SGS2 from other carriers supports it, but for some reason Sprint disabled it in the Kernel? I'm not 100% why its not yet supported..... all I know is that its possible, and I want to be able to mount my Flash Drive, HDD, and plug my phone into an HDMI converter for my HDTV and bluetooth a mouse/keyboard combo.... mini-PC, like you said

Very interested, there is an app for controlling Canon DSLRs that I want to use which requires this.
Thanks for not flaming guys. I'm moving this to general as it looks like it could become more of a discussion thread.

I am also interested. I bought a few of these usb cables on ebay- but none worked. I would like to use a usb keyboard...which right now I am considering buying another bluetooth keyboard.
I'm also extremely interested. Would be very awesome.

Will the HTC Media Link work on stock JB?

I was planning on rooting my One recently but just realized that the media link may not work on another ROM as all the instructions mention Sense. Does anyone know if this is the case?
i highly doubt it as it probably uses htc's proprietary wireless mirroring. IF the new media link is just miracast, it should work on AOSP

Ah, that's a shame. It came as a pre-order bonus so I'm not really losing money but It was a lot more useful than I expected. But If I recall correctly, isn't the One's microUSB port a MHL port as well? Would that work to display onto a television?
It will work with the Wifi Media app, sometimes it seemed like I got inconsistent results.. But for the most part if the video is compatible it'll do it.
It doesn't mirror the screen, but it will stream video, pics, and audio.
I used to use this with my evo lte when I was running aosp roms

yes it has a mhl port. Doesnt need a power source either.
you could always sell your media link and get a miracast enabled device, such as:
