Which Nougat-based ROM? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this - I don't have a high enough post count to add this to the ROMs forum.
I currently have OOs 4.0.2 installed, but I am looking to change as there is a feature that, in their infinite wisdom, the OnePlus development team decided to remove. There are a couple of features I'm looking for:
- the ability to enable or disable SIM cards as when I travel I want to switch SIM so I don't get hit with roaming charges
- the ability to change the notification tone to a local MP3 file, not just choose from the sounds in the OS (this is the direction that 1+ has decided to go)
Is there a Nougat-based ROM with these options? I tried an earlier build of RR and CM14 - they had the second thing, but not the first.
Thanks,
Brian

Anyone?

On OOS 4.0.2, you can enable and disable Sims and switch data.
For notifications, you will have to look elsewhere.

The reason I ask - on OOs 3.2.8 (and CM13) I could do both, and on several Android N-based ROMs I could change the notification tones but not enable and disable SIMs. I'm looking to do both - if nothing for this exists I may go back to something based on Android MM.

I have the same problem with the sim cards, but currently there is no fix for it. We have to wait til it gets included ?

Best rom for helium?

Hello all,
I am looking for a stable fully functional rom for my 3GB/64GB Helium.
I have tried Miui - but when I found out that there are (major) issues with using a smart watch (or more specifically with android wear and notifications) I decided to look for other options (as my watch has to work!)
I am trying now Lineage for Helium - what other options would I have?
What would you all recommend?
Thank you for any suggestions...
I use RR 5.7.4, I have zero problems with it.
I use Global Beta 7.1.19, I have zero problems with it )))

I tried the global ROM and had several issues when using my smart watch:
the silence / DND toggles are mixed up ( I select "silent" and it triggers "DND" on the phone)
no notifications of any kind arrived on my watch.
I did some search and found no solution (other than others confirming they had the same problem).
If I cannot use my watch with the phone then it is a no go.
Or are you successfully using an Android Wear watch - can you please tell me how?
"I use RR 5.7.4, I have zero problems with it."
Thank you for the reply. Do you use by any chance a smart watch as well ? Do notifications work?
sorry, i don't us smart watch.
I'm using the Xiaomi.EU Rom.
https://xiaomi.eu/community/forums/miui-weekly-rom-releases.103/
I've also rooted and xposed without much problem. While I'm interested in LineageOS, Xiaomi.EU Roms are much better than the official ROMs and the development team is excellent.

I remember you from my old z2 times. Now i have Samsung tab s3, but thinking about switching to mediapad m5 as development on my current tab is very little. happy to see you here. thanks for your effort
I installed your Resurrection Remix a couple of weeks ago. I am really enjoying it, and not running into many problems, aside from the aforementioned magnetic case not turning on and off the tablet. I do want to ask you though (and forgive me, I'm not super tech savvy in regards to this, so my questions might be a bit dumb), does the kernel you use allow for over and under clocking? I've tried setting this in "Kernel Adiutor" and the cpu speeds I set never stick.... however changing the governors does. And does your kernel allow for fast/quick charge?
Regardless, thanks a ton for bringing a bunch of ROMs to the M5, I really appreciate it!
*Edit*: I just wanted to add, that one problem I am running into is that sometimes my bluetooth crashes. Seems to be random, and only starts working again when I reboot the system.

Do these ROMs work on both LTE and Wi-Fi only variants of the tablet?
Likely a problem with ASOP, but WiFi only tablets have an annoying amount of phone like features that can be disabled (or detected and removed);
No SIM card icon
No SIM card message
Volume buttons control ringtone , should control media volume
I'm sure there are other annoyances

I also have an Wifi only Mediapad and long searched for a fix for this.
A few days ago I found an answer and added this line to my build.prop:
Code:
ro.radio.noril=yes
Especially the "No SIM card - No service" text in the notification tray bother me and after adding the line it was gone and also the Settings for mobile networks disappeared.
I could deactivated the Phone and Messenger App, I don't know if it was impossible before.
About the Volume buttons, I am not sure, cuz I use the App "Volume Pie" that's default controls media volume anywhere.
Hmm... Why exactly did they ban your work?

Thanks, that fixed the SIM card messages, just need a patch to get sensible tablet control of the volume buttons.
I would seriously avoid this, there is something very bad smelling about OpenKirin.
The developers want to remain anonymous, there is no source code for audit, and of you ask awkward questions along these lines on the telegram channel they suddenly get very abusive.
All signs that something is not entirely right and there is something to hide.. (included malware or data harvesting???).
Huawei is now a huge player, and therefore a prime candidate for mass day harvesting from anyone that flashes a closed source ROM like this.
Anyone knows how to root after installing LOS?
Usually I would use TWRP to get it, but the stock recovery does not support it.

@Signor Rossi it's actually the same procedure as from this this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m5/how-to/root-root-guide-huawei-mediapad-m5-t3786157.
What's the difference between the ROMs?
Well, check the ROMs own development pages. Openkirin simply build them for us, that's all. They are not "making" them.

Flashing ROM due to issues

Hi everyone.
I am fairly new to ANdroid phones.
Recently I purchased the 9 SE and received yesterday. Absolutely love the form factor and feel as well as the HW but the Xiaomi SW is shocking.
The issues I have are:
1 - Waveup does not work (wile I understand there are inbuilt alternatives DTTW etc, I like using WaveUP)
2 - Unlock with bluetooth (will only work with Xiaomi devices)
3 - Notifications disappear
4 - No LED to nofify of incoming items
5 - Much Mi bloatware that cannot be removed
I am considering flashing XenonHD + Okita Kernel.
Can anyone advise if this will resolve any/all of my issues?
Thanks a million
Basically, yes. But there are other bugs in the aosp roms. Also we have no led light so nothing will fix that.
I would suggest xiaomi.eu 11 it's the fastest and most stable ROM without bloat right now
Either way you need to unlock the bootloader which can take time. I would start that now.

Thanks for the reply.
My main gripes are the bloatware and bluetooth at the moment.
Yeah, read about the LED and am a little surprised as this is a very useful feature.
Also the weird way notifications are handled are well, just weird....
While the handset is really nice and sleek the OS is not great at all

Stock Miui 10, I agree with you. All those issues are fixed by xiaomi.eu 11 beta
Bloat removed, notifications working well, generally closer to stock than Miui has ever been

I have updated to 11 stable but unfortunately it has not resolved my issue with smart unlock.
I have a Garmin Vivimove HR and no matter what I do, I cannot get the phone to allow the watch to unlock the phone.
Actually, the phone will not stay connected to the Garmin watch at all.
Very frustrating
Help with Bootloader unlocking and ROM selection
So finally getting round to unlocking Bootloader as I recently bought Sony WH-XB900N and cannot get the phone to make calls via the headset (apparently something to do with (selecting HFP or HSP for the profile - can't find it anywhere in teh settings) and, along with some of the other issues described in my original post, I've had enough of this ROM (MIUI 11.2.0) and Xiaomi believing they are entitled to control how I use a device that I own (Xiaomi are worse than Apple at this point)
Was about to do it earlier with the miflash_unlock tool and received the message "unlock will erase user data" which I didn't realise would happen.
I discontinued the operation.
Will unlocking the Bootloader on the Mi 9SE erase all my data? - If so can anyone advise the best way to proceed?
Also, is there a ROM that will address:
1. Unlock with bluetooth (will only work with Xiaomi devices)
2. Much Mi bloatware that cannot be removed
3. Allow calls from Sony WH-XB900N wireless headset
Thanks for any help.

[Xposed] (Security) Disable Quick Settings Pulldown on Lock Screen

This is just a simple Xposed module that disables pulling down the notification shade / quick settings tiles while on the lock screen (but doesn't break media player controls on lock screen). Only tested on Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL on Android 10 (more on this later).
Background: This has always been an annoying aspect of Android for me, and it's dumb from a security standpoint. Being able to pull down the quick settings tiles on a locked phone is dumb. Why hasn't Android natively built this in yet? Using this and Gravity Box to disable power menu on lock screen makes me feel a lot better in the event my phone ever gets lost or stolen. It's dumb that anyone can steal your phone and immediately toggle your settings (turn off WiFi, Mobile Data, toggle Airplane Mode, etc) and/or turn the phone off... I've been spoiled for years by the OG HTC devs (particularly LeeDroid and Team Venom) and their ROMs with these features baked in, so it's back to using Xposed to fill that gap for me and my wife, lol. Anyway, I pair these mods along with the Lockwatch app from Play Store and it gives me more peace of mind. Hey, anything to increase the chances of recovering a lost or stolen phone, am I right?
Credits / Technical Details: This module is based off of char101's published Xposed Repo module, and all credits and thanks should go to him. This is the first app / APK I've compiled so it was a nice learning experience, but it was all based off of his source and I really just needed to remove a few lines of code to get it to work properly with our phones. His mod worked fine and disabled the quick settings pull down on the lock screen, as intended. The problem was that it would also prevent media player controls from functioning (and I would assume other possible functions as well). To fix this, I just removed DISABLE2_NOTIFICATION_SHADE references from the code, leaving DISABLE2_NONE and DISABLE2_QUICK_SETTINGS untouched. The mod still works perfectly as intended. Only tested on Pixel 4 / 4 XL on Android 10. I'm sure it would work on other devices as well.
I really just did this on a whim for me and my wife's own phones and wasn't planning on sharing it, but I figure other people may have also wanted this for their P4's as well, so enjoy. Again, all thanks go to @char101!
Installation:
- Download .APK file attached to this post.
* If you have char101's original module installed already, I would highly recommend uninstalling it first.
- It's an Xposed module. Install the APK and enable in your Xposed Manager.
- Reboot and test.
Based on: https://repo.xposed.info/module/com.github.char101.qslock
Source for modified module: https://github.com/i5lee8bit/xposed-qslock-P4mod
Just noticed something that worried me at first, but turned out to be nothing of concern afaik, but in case anyone else gets spooked by it: I just noticed last night that if you launch the camera while on the lock screen, you can still pull down the notification shade. Same can be said for other apps that can be active over lock screen (e.g. Phone app during active call).
However, the quick settings are still inaccessible while locked. The notification contents that do show will follow the same rules as your settings, so if you have it set to hide sensitive notification content (which you probably should... otherwise 2-factor authentication is extremely pointless if your device were lost or stolen), you still won't be able to see the notification content itself, just that there is a pending notification for that particular app.
I hope you're finding the mod useful, for anyone who is using it. Please let me know if you find any issues with the module, thanks. I'm by no means a developer, but I have more free time than usual for obvious global reasons and it's a fun learning experience while the free time lasts. =)
I've been using the original NoQSInLockScreen, and while it did the job, it really bothered me that you couldn't use media controls on the lock screen (or expand notifications).
This mod took care of that problem. Really happy with it!

Just wanted to let you know, as a fellow (now former) user of this mod, that I found a better way of doing this! So just thought I'd share:
Using GravityBox app for EdXposed framework you can simply define which individual QS tiles you want to secure. That way you still have access to the QuickSettings pulldown menu from the lockscreen (unlike this mod which disables it altogether), but things like Wi-Fi, Location, Airplane Mode etc. are secure and not accessible until you've unlocked your phone. It's a much more practical and elegant solution in my opinion.
Check out my post on this from Reddit where I describe the steps if you're interested:

Can't wait to try, does your mod support Android 11?

I completely forgot about this mod, haha. But thanks for letting us know!
As @nanquan mentioned (a long time ago, lol), you can also achieve (essentially) the same thing by using GravityBox. It is indeed a more "elegant" solution, and since I already use GravityBox heavily, I now just use GB's tweaks to lock down the main comm tiles.
But I'm glad this still works, for those who still prefer to use it for whatever reason. I can see it still being useful if you have a lot of custom QS tiles and want to keep it all locked down.

(Question) Active Edge/Squeeze gestures support for any rom.

The world of development on pixel 2 XL devices is huge, I have gotten used to turning on the flashlight by pressing the edges of my phone with AOISP rom, the problem is that I cannot change rom due to almost no developer includes the Active Edge code by Google licenses. Is there any way that I can install it through Magisk / Xposed, or anything on a rom that doesn't support it? I want to change to a rom that supports face unlock. From already thank you very much. And I thank with all my support to the developers, who do an amazing job, greetings from Argentina.
