If i rooted my phone and want to go back to the original FW or i missed something and never worked and want to reflash my phone again with the untouched FW, Is it okay? or my phone will be bricked as a result of bad rooting?!
need to know that.
Thank you!

I am ok with computers but very n00b to smartphones.
I downloaded SDK, enabled USB debugging, in CMD my serial came up so that was all ok.
I put the update.zip on the sd card of the phone and turned on the phone with vol down + home key expecting it to let me choose the update.zip but I got a yellow android triangle screen with the android bot icon using a spade and underneath it says
"downloading.....
Do not turn off target!!!"
What have I missed?
Thanks in advance

Did you enable USB debugging on the S? It's off the Settings|Applications|Development menu.
In the CMD shell, did you go to the android-sdk-windows\tools directory and run 'adb reboot recovery' with the USB lead connected?
Thankyou
I did it, I didn't put in the command shell, I rebooted it thinking the vol down + home would bring me into the recovery screen
How do I confirm it worked? It looked like it was doing stuff.. *edit I found the superuser app*
Wow sounds great! Custom recovery anyone!? Just got back from romania, nice little treat!

Hi,
i'm new to this..I have a I9000 and maybe I wan't to root it.
But I have some questions first and i I hope anybody can help me.
1) Can you go back to the stock settings ?
2) Do you still have your warranty?
3) Can you put a costum ROM on it? Example: Can you use the ROM they use on a nexus one?
4) What can you do more when u are a superuser?
Thnx
worked perfectly (first method) fast and simple
I have root now
can't wait for custom recovery.
the busybox in here was not very good had to let titanium backup update to its version of busy box.
If you want the full featured busybox, why not taking this one?
removing apps..
can someone help me out please, i cant seem to find a way to remove apps that are already installed from samsung...
Do you have already root? Then you should open your command line where your adb binary lies in and type the following:
Code:
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
ls
and identify the packages which you don't need and remove them by typing:
Code:
rm PACKAGENAME.apk
rm PACKAGENAME.odex

[Q] Question: Supposed Quick Root Method Usning Androot/Rom Maqnager Need Help!!!

Ok so I started the method previously posted before it was linked back to nbecthers method because it supposedly works but I flashed the clockwork it wouldn't flash my custom rom (CM Mod 6.1.1) and returned me to the stock then I tried the correct method and it won't let me adb push flash_img/data/local or mtg0.img to data/local either so I can't cd, chmod the commands to then boot into the stock recovery and flash esprimg.zip followed by clockwork(update.zip cause its already applied but NAND protection stops it from working I guess) because I no longer have a stock recovery to exploit or whatever I have clockwork I have since used androot and root explorer for root used to copy flash_image and mtg0.img to data/local and exploid is in the sqlite_stmt_journals as it should be... So can I run the commands to run flash image and mtg0.img and exploid again from and android shell off my phone with su permissions from androot temp root and then flash a custom image or am a screwed? Or should I run the exploid command toggle wifi and then the flash/mtg commands from android shell or what cause I'm away from a pc and I need to do this to my phone plus it goes to the triangle screen and nothing works I gotta pull the battery...
Honestly, start from ground zero of the updated for 12/30 root method and you will be just fine. Just messing around earlier today I unrooted and rerooted my phone a few times. Stick with eugene373's method from step one on and things should work fine.

I recommend using the one involving the exploid file, it's very simple.

Ok so in my never ending struggle against the Evil Eclair/T-Mo/HTC NAND Protection and the Futility of Trying to flash a ROM With the "Supposed AndRoot QuIck Root Method" As well as a fine point from Nbetcher that the Engineering build must be flashed because Android has NAND protection while running. I have devised my own "No PC ROOT Method!!!"
Required Files (Tested For MT3G SLIDE Latest OTA Unrooted Stock)
1.Download Androot From Location of Choosing (I'm Using Version 1.6.2)
2.Download ESPRIMG.zip (ENG build)
3.Download SlideEng-Package.zip
4.Download Custom Rom Of Your Choosing(Mine Is CM 6.1.1 Stable)
5.Download Android Terminal Emulator(From Market)
6.Download Root Explorer Android (Requires Root) (From Market Or Some Place Online)
7.Download File Explorer (Dev:Adao Team)(From Android Market)
8.Download Latest Clockwork Recovery(I Used 2.5.0.1)
Please Not I Am NOT The DEV Behind these Apps nor am I Resposible For Any Damages You May Incur To Your Device or Warranty by using this Method! Also Before anyone says I repped someone off remeber I accidentally discovered this using 2 failed methods because they essentially cancel each other out.(The Latter Nbetchers works just not after the AndRoot One)!!!
So...
1st Download/Install all needed files from market( File Manager Android Terminal Emulator)
2nd Download all zip images, Recoveries, Roms, apps from phone browser Directly To SD ROOT(Google em until I get links up on Dev Forum)
3rd. Unzip SlideEng-Package.zip To Root using File Manager or Other Zip Program for android(Andro-Zip Works Well)
4th Change Name of Clockwork to Update.zip(Case Sensative)
5th Install AndRoot And Run Root Me With Install Su & Temp Root/Unroot After Reboot Selected(Or Else You Will Boot Loop)
6th Install And Run Root Explorer then Copy and paste flash_img and mtd0.img to /data/local on android device by multi-select copy then RM R/W in program in upper left on data local folder.
7th IMPORTANT!!! Long Press and hold each copied file and set permissions to allow read and write on both user and the lowest option (I Think Dev or system)
8th Run Android Terminal Emulator and type the following commands verbatim spaces included Pressing enter after each line($ n # will be there provided you follwed all steps if not go back to androot and root again):
$ su
# cd /data/local
# chmod 04755 flash_image
# ./flash_image misc mtd0.img
Now power off and reboot using VOL-DOWN + POWER
It'll reboot into the HBoot Screen and ask if you want to Check ESPRIMG.zip after Verifying it will ask you to flash Select Yes (VOL-UP) And Wait DO NOT POWER DOWN OR TAKE OUT BATTERY!!!
Once its Completed it will ask you to Reboot select no Instead and Go To Recovery
Now Select APPLY Update.zip to flash CLOCKWORK RECOVERY YAY!!! :-D Now We Can Flash a Custom Rom With Root and Even Go As Far As S-OFF!!! But Please Be Sure Its Already On Your Micro SD...
Select Wipe Data Factory Reset by Scrolling with VOL- UP/DOWN or Track Pad and Use Power/Trackpad TO Select.
Now Use Install Zip from SD Card to Install Custom Rom(Flash GApps Second if downloaded and desired if using CM Mod 6.1.1) Now Reboot And Enjoy!!! If you Wanna Flash Anything Else Use Rom Manager From Market and Som Custom Roms to Boot into Clockwork!!! Thanks to all the Devs and their tools and immense knowledge for Making this Possible! Thanks To All The ROM Chefs Too!!!

Rooting method: When the regular way fails

You will need the following software:
Superuser
Root explorer
Visionary r13
Z4Root
Terminal
and the rooting files provided in the other post...place those in the root directory of your sd card.
Why use this method?
I noticed that some phones cannot be rooted using the traditional rooting method through terminal. My phone an my friend's phone were not easy to root. My brothers rooted with the visionary method.
When that fails, you can use this one...that I discovered while trying to unroot my phone using many different methods.
The method:
- First make sure superuser is running.
- make sure usb debugging is on, and third party apps is checked.
- Open visionary, make sure the mount as R/W after root is checked and do a
temp root
- Open z4root and do a temp root.
- run terminal and type: su
- keep terminal open but switch to home screen
- open root explorer
- press mount as R/W
- navigate to that "root" folder on your sd card with the root files and open root.sh and then click execute
- switch back to terminal and type:
cd /sdcard/root
hit enter and then type:
sh root.sh
and hit enter...the phone will do some stuff and after it's done, reboot it.
Once it is off and about to start, press power button and vol down button at the same time. It should have s = off on it.
reboot again into the OS and open z4root and do a perm root.
After that is done, it will keep saying rebooting but it will not do it automatically so go ahead and reboot it with the power button.
Once the phone has booted again, uninstall z4root and visionary and anything else except root explorer.
That's it! There is no such thing as un-rootable!
what's z4root used for when visionary does temproot for you?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
You may not need it but when I was attempting to root the phone, that's what I used.
I am thinking you can follow the steps, omit the z4root steps and just use visionary.
For some reason my phone did not want to unlock just with visionary.
Dont work for me,,,,i try all the stuff here,,i dont know what im doing wrong,,cause the phone said s.off but when im reboot the phone still on
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Wait it says s-off? Then you're good, all you do after the reboot, is run z4root and perm root it
If you follow the directions that grankln posted and do it right then you wont have any problems rooting it. If someone follows that guide and correctly it will root their phone. Its proven to work so if its not working on someone's phone chances are high they aren't doing it right. This thread in unnecessary especially since there are already a few methods of rooting already posted. You are just going to confuse people more

I've never seen that guide fail when all steps are performed correctly. Even in irc, when people say that that method doesn't work, I walk them through the steps and it magically works when it failed every time before.

No, you have to downgrade. Check the resource Bible, they're a few threads on how to do it. Then you can root your phone.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.
........Death before dishonor........
For God's sake. Having root without write access to the system partition is next to worthless. If anyone has questions regarding rooting there phone then please read the how to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996. If you can't figure it out do not go ahead with a procedure you don't understand! Not trying to be a **** but what works is posted. Its proven. It does the trick.

II. Was installed busyBox but I can not install it and when the installation device works Risterat What problem
read about write system protection.
tutos are available on this forum (wp_mod.ko file to push in system/lib/modules, and run a command on the phone with a terminal app)
#su
insmod system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko
if im speaking chinese, dont try
but as you tried to change partitions before having write protection removed, you wont be able to do it without a restart until you reflash your rom (clean install)

2. Hopefully you were able to successfully install custom recovery and root.
Now this part is a bit tricky. Even with root HTC is stopping us from writing to system. For this we need to apply the wp_mod.ko module.
Download it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2707378
Copy this file to the root of your internal storage.
Now download Terminal Emulator from play store, run it and enter the following commands (you only need to do this once):
su
insmod /sdcard/wp_mod.ko
Once you do this go into a root explorer app and mount /system as R/W. Copy the wp_mod.ko file to /system/lib/modules
Now go to /system/etc and find install-recovery.sh. Open it with a text editor and add a new line at the end with the following:
insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko
Reboot! If all went well the wp_mod module will run at boot every time so you won't have to do it manually each time!
Congratulations, you now have a fully rooted Desire 816!

If you root with dodgy kingroot you must change kinguser to supersu as kinguser does not give the same root access permissions as supersu does and will cause problems...

There's a zip you flash via recovery probably other ways too, it removes all the kingroot/kinguser files and replaces them with supersu for proper root access. Really don't see the point in buying a Xperia device for the camera ect then unlocking the Bootloader and losing it yes I know there's a workaround for the z ranges but bet it's not as good as the real drm keys
Does this root the Sony Xperia M5 (E5653)?

Can anyone advise whether this works on the SONY M5 (E5653), as sold here in Thailand?
Thanks!

The problem is that the only way I know if via recovery and there is no custom recovery yet for this phone... I was not planning on unlocking the bootloader, but I do want a rooted phone.
I can confirm this method.
Works like a charm.
Not too difficult to do, all though I do like the "one click" magic
Hello, and thank you for the guide. I have some questions that I would like someone to address please.
1. After installing KingRoot, do I have to run the app and go through the rooting process? Or i just install it and follow the other steps?
2. mount /system RW says 'your device may not be rooted or is not compatible'
3. You say '-Open Terminal emulator and write code.
su
sh storage/emulated/0/mrw/root.sh'. However, when I type su, it says SU not found.
Thank you in advance all.
You didn't root your phone. When you install KingRoot you have to open the app and click on Root, you may have to try several times until you are abel too root it,just keep trying for me it took three times to make it work, for some up to 7 times, but when it's rooted it will show you the message that your phone is rooted and then you can follow the rest guide...

Hello, thank you very much for your reply. I did as you said and now I have SuperSU and kinguser is no longer there. I have one more question, if you dont mind. Is it OK if I remove Purify and SuperBattery now?
PS: I got a bit anxious while installing SuperSU, as it asked to delete other superuser apps, i said OK, and it stuck at 'supersu uninstalling'. However, I restarted the phone and everything was OK.

Hello but can anyone confirm if this method is just for root or also onlocks bootloader? I just want root access and don't want to lose my DRM keys!
Thank you
Works also on 30.1.A.1.55

Yes, just did it and worked on first try.
confirming its method to be root has been a success and should be noted that when executing commands from the internal memory of the folder mrw also be done through the external memory
Code:
su
sh sdcard1/mrw/root.sh
