Bluetooth randomly cutting - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

So my Bluetooth randomly cuts audio and starts stuttering... Any ideas? I'm full stock...
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

on what kind of device, and what version of BT does that device support?

It happens to me too, but only with cheap devices listening to music, it does not happen when talking.

Happens on my Echo & 2014 Audi A4. People say disabling wifi will fix it. 7.1.2 looks like it IMPROVES it but doesn't RESOLVE it.
I say returning the phone and buying an iPhone will fix it...because both my Echo and my Audi worked fine with my iPhones.

It happens with my Sony headphones mdr-x950...
They are pretty good I guess...

EL29: Much improved bluetooth stack

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but ever since upgrading to the latest leaks my bluetooth has been way more solid. I used to have all kinds of trouble with disconnecting and not pairing with my car (2012 MyFord Touch), those problems have now disappeared.

I don't use Bluetooth in my car, but since loading EL29, my brother has finally stopped complaining about the sound when I talk to him with my Bluetooth headset.
Oh thank Jesus! This has been confusing me ever since I got this phone. Bluetoof worked great on my Evo4G, but not on my E4GT. Great to hear. I'm hoping this fixes the popping and crackling noises too.

It's a high quality Kenwood car stereo that worked flawlessly with my Evo4G and didn't have popping or crackling noises before EK02. The sound quality to the caller has been terrible on the E4GT the whole time however. But I see where you're going there, helpful.
fortunately, for most of us, phone call audio quality has never been much of an issue..
I'm 100% stock 2.3.6. No issues here.

This gives me hope. I've had troubles with my phone disconnecting and the reconnecting to my A2DP headset repeatedly while streaming audio. It never behaved that way with my Epic.

[Q] Fix Poor Audio Quality Over Bluetooth?

Switched from the Nexus 5 to the G3 last week. Love it so far, but noticed that the audio quality over Bluetooth is horrendous in comparison to my previous phones.
This is connecting to my 2013 Honda Civic. Previous phones that sounded great in my car were the Nexus 5, HTC One, and Note 3. The G3 sounds really bad. At first I thought it was because I was streaming music, but I tried local content with the same results. Anything base-ier or heavy just sounds muffled/distorted when the song gets loud. It pretty much sounds like a really low-quality stream.
Is there any way to fix this or is it just an issue with the phone?

After testing it seems more so that when my Moto 360 is unpaired the quality goes back to normal. My guess is that the phone itself is having the issues, not my car.

Same thing here. Quality sounded like a low bit rate, compressed and distorted. Old M7 sounded great, so I knew it wasn't my head unit.
Read this thread and tried disconnecting my Gear Live watch, and got a much better sounding stream. Kind of a crappy trade-off. Hopefully it's something that can be ironed out with a software update, and not an actual hardware limitation on the BT module in the G3. Like I said, my old HTC One M7 handled both without issue.

My M8 had some weird BT audio issues at launch, but an update a few weeks later fixed it. Hopefully this will be the case with the G3. Is there any easy way to re-pair an Android Wear watch? When I unpair it on my G3, I end up having to fully reset the watch to put it back into pairing mode.
Same Issue
Did you find a fix?
Im having the same issue with my LG G3. I have a 2009 Acura TSX. Verizon told me today that my phone is not compatible with my car because my car's bluetooth is out of date. I am skeptical because it works fine just sounds crappy.
Anyone else having issues? Im going to investigate further. If other peoples Verizon G3 does not have this issue, then Ill know it was lies.
Viper4Android makes a nice improvement in the quality once you get it tweaked properly. Made a dramatic difference in my car and over my BT headphones.
I have a 2010 TSX and it works perfectly with my g3 (D851). Sounds great
Does your tsx have the navigation package? What about your phone is it Verizon ?
I'm going to call Verizon again. Really bugs me. Love the phone other than this.
I've paired with my Car and a Sony Shake stereo. Both sound great, especially the Sony.
I am having the same low quality issue with the BT audio on the G3. I was using the M7 and it sounded great. I tethered the M7 off the G3 and used the M7 BT through the car stereo just to make sure I was not imagining things. There is a huge improvement in audio quality when using the M7 BT as opposed to G3 BT.

[Q] Jaybird Bluebuds X problems on Galaxy S6?

Anyone having any Bluetooth issues with the S6? In particular, with the Jaybird Bluebud X earbuds? I emailed Jaybird support to see if they are aware of any issues. Based on my research, I cant tell for sure if there is a known issue or not.
Basically, heres whats happening. This is the first time Im using a Bluetooth headset but pretty confident this isnt a settings issue.
Bluetooth pairs fine. But if my phone is not within a foot or two, or not in direct line-of-sight of the earbuds, the sound cuts in and out, or totally out. So if I put the phone in my pocket, I lose sound. If I hold the phone behind my back, I lose sound. Bluetooth stays connected, but the sound goes out abruptly. It doesnt get distorted or faint, it just cuts out. If I bring the phone back in line-of-sight, or close to the phone it works great. But it kind of defeats the purpose. I had to hold the phone at my chest on my walk to work this morning in order for it to work right. If I cover the top half of the phone, it goes out (eerily similar to the old iPhone issue with the antenna, if you touch the frame a certain way it seems to go out). But sometimes depending how I touch the controller-side earbud, it goes out. Its as if anything that blocks the line-of-sight or sensors on the phone/earbud, it blocks sound. I tested this in Safe Mode as well and the problem is still there.
For whats its worth, I have a Jambox at home and the S6 connects fine with it, no matter where I am in the apartment or how Im holding the phone. So I really doubt this is a problem with the phone but who knows. I have my old S4 on KitKat at home that I will test with tonight as well.
Some new information after some testing at the office this morning.
Tried the earbuds with a Galaxy Note 4, and iPhone 4S, and the same problem is happening. So thankfully it doesnt look like an issue with the S6. I'll be sending these earbuds back for a new pair and report. If problems continue, obviously I'll be trying another kind of earbuds.
Stopped and picked up the Plantronics Backbeat Go 2. So far, these are working perfectly though they may not be quite as loud. But its good to know it doesnt appear to be a problem with the phone. Must be some kind of compatibility issue with the Bluebuds. I have a replacement set of Bluebuds on the way so Ill report back if they work any better than the first pair.
My bluebud x does the same. Walked over a foot away and the music stops. Walk back closer to the phone music comes back on.
Received my replacement Bluebuds and the same problem occurs. So there must be some kind of compatibility issue.
Jaybird says they are unaware of a known issue but I find that hard to believe.
So Ill be using the Plantronics for now since they seem to work fine.
Samsung S6 issues
I recently purchased the JayBird BlueBud X and literally had the same issue. It connected and paired perfectly fine, but it only lasted for about 10 seconds before the sound went away. You could press any button on the BlueBuds and it would start up again for a few seconds and the sound would go away again. It paired perfectly with my sister's Samsung Galaxy S4 and my friend's iPhone 5. I called their technical support and they suggested, I send it in and get a replacement. I wasn't having any of that BS. I just returned them. Sadly, they were the most comfortable earbuds, I have ever worn. There is some compatibility issues that need looking into.

The same thing happens with my LG Tones, the antenna seems to be in the left side on them and having to go through my body to the phone in my pocket is just too much. It's been an issue with both phones I've used it with, the S6 and the S4 before it. Bluetooth in low power devices just seems to have to be super weak.
Has anyone found a fix for this problem as yet? I have the same issue with my bluebuds when I am at the gym as well.
You don't know how much effort I put into figuring out it was the phone and not the bluebudsx. Ended up returning and getting G new headphones 3 times, before sending in my phone to be replaced. Figured out that the new phone was still dropping the connection too, so it had to be the phone and not the headphones. It really sucks because I run twice daily, and Bluetooth made things so much easier. It looks like just bad hardware from Samsung, so there won't be a fix coming. Just gonna have to used wired headsets again...
Oh and for the record, I'm not having issues with distance causing drops. The drops occur randomly after usage, anywhere from 5 minutes to 6p minutes into my run. So everyday is a new day when I go running, since im always worrying about when my music will cut out and mess up my rhythm. Tested bluebudsx with my N5, Note 4, and EVO LTE. None cut out randomly during runs. So I came to the conclusion it has to be bad hardware on the S6.
glad I saw this, I was considering these for jogging/exercising, I'm presently using a Samsung HS3000 with a pair of Beats UR Beats, guess I'll stick with that combo

No issues here and i use them all the time at the gym. Always go drink some water and leaving my phone behind without a hitch. Galaxy S6 W8 Variant with XtreStoLite 1.4a (5.0.2)
Xtrestolite is a Rom for S6, right? That makes me think that it maybe a software issue with the phone not a hardware issue.
I'm wondering if it has to do with 5.0. 2 Android. Has anyone flashed the new 5. 1.1 release? If it is software that's causing issues, maybe something was changed between versions. I would test it myself but I need to stay on 5.0.2 for personal reasons.

Just got my jaybirds and my S6 (G925T) is running 5.1.1 and is having the same issue. Music will play for 30sec-1min but then it cuts out. The bluebuds x work fine on my Nexus 7 which is also running 5.1.1

It seems like I was able to fix the issue for my S6. I enabled Bluetooth HCI snoop log in the Developer options and then copied the file (btsnoop_hci.log) to my computer and found in Wireshark that my Logitech bluetooth adapter was showing up a lot even though it was not paired to my phone. I disconnected the adapter and found that I can play music without the dropped audio. I'd recommend everyone to take a look at their logs and see if there is any weird traffic from other bluetooth devices. It's somewhat disconcerting that a device not even paired to my phone could cause problems with the headphones.

Interesting. I'll try that, but I'm thinking I have a different problem since I can be walking around or running outside and connections will still drop randomly.
I am having the same issue on Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +. Soooo annoying. The only pattern that I was able to figure out is that sound will cut out every time there is a Bluetooth interference. Even when there are no other Bluetooth devices within miles. When ever you have any other apps running in the background that try to connect to Bluetooth devices sound will cut out. For example when u have some fitness tracking app trying to connect to a Bluetooth device that is not with you. It seems that there are few different ways that your sound cuts out and all has to do with Bluetooth interference or searching. It would be awesome if someone has a solution.
Samsung GS6 and Jaybird Bluebuds X connecting
Hello all,
I was having the same issue with my Samsung GS6 ATT running 5.1.1.
I would put the phone in my pocket or walk a few feet away and the signal would drop out (skip).
Reading all the posts on here stating it wasn't the buds I tried the one thing that possibly on mine can cause the bad signal.
I removed my case! (OBLIQ case)
Since doing that I can walk 30 ft away without being in line of sight of my phone with no drops.
I'm having no issues during training, with my new pair of Jaybird Bluebuds X and my Galaxy S6 running Stock 5.1.1. BTW I'm using a Ringle SLIM case on my S6.
It's there any way to show battery percentage on an Android Phone? . This is possible on IOS.
Excellent troubleshooting, icj217 - I experienced this same issue to where the audio would drop between every 5-8 mins on my GS6 using the Bluebuds X (regardless of distance). I've cleared all the paired devices (including the Bluebuds X) on my GS6 and re-paired the headphones and they seem to be working fine now. I'm wondering what's going to happen once I re-pair all my other bluetooth devices. If I inherit the problem again, this will be just another reason to dump the GS6 and go back to my Nexus 5.

Joying 4.4 Rk3188 - BT call audio missing

Hey guys,
I purchased this unit from Amazon and absolutely love the radio, but I've tried to get 4 different modern phones to connect their call audio through the radio, but all I get is silence. I can hear the unit switch audio inputs but nothing comes through the speakers.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015IVIN9U/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
However, BT music streaming works just fine.

I ordered another unit in case one was bad, but still have the same problem.
The manufacturer seems responsive, but I'm losing patience, any suggestions to fix this problem?

Have you tried with another phone?
UnfortunatelyI tested with 4 phones:
Iphone 6s plus
LG V10
Samsung Note 5
HTC One M8
Almost feels like something is not wired properly, yet everything works fine except call audio.
What would cause media audio to work via BT, but not call audio?
The only item I can think of is the BT settings on the phone, but all phones were configured for call and media streaming.
Did you ever find a resolution to this issue?
Have been bench testing my new unit for that past week, was sad to discover this. At least it is able to alert a phone call in various ways.

Yes!
I sourced my amplifier using the rear RCA outputs on the Joying HU, after realizing that most manufacturers output call audio to the front channels only, I resolved the problem by moving my RCA cables to the front set of HU outputs.
Hope this helps others.
I ran into this with my wife's Iphone 6 today. My LG G3 works great, but the Iphone keeps switching back from bluetooth to itself for call audio. No amplifier in the car.
We are going to try updating the iOS on it and see if that makes any difference...

I could be way off here, but similar thing happened when I switched from Android to an iPhone. Found out that if you answer the call from your iPhone, it will switch to the iPhone earpiece. You have to answer incoming calls via the hands free device (your steering controls or the touchscreen) to keep the audio going through the Bluetooth.

Bluetooth suddenly extremely flaky

At the beginning of last week I got a new bluetooth headphones, worked great and far better than the old one. But then on Friday I started getting constant disconnection issues on my XL. Sometimes it will stay connected for an hour, sometimes it's barely a minute. I've noticed it seems to disconnect more regularly when watching youtube videos (Vanced, via Magisk) than when just listening to music through Play Music, but this might just be because I use youtube more than I listen to music.
I've tried using the headphones with my laptop and while I've not tried using them for a prolonged time, I've not had them disconnect on me, so I'm starting to point my finger at the phone. I'm trying to get hold of my old headphones so I can test with those as well, but I'm definitely thinking it's a problem with my phone. I even tried loading on a new factory image and starting from scratch to try and write off a software issue, but the issue has persisted. My main question is why on earth it just started happening one day. I don't think I dropped my phone or did anything else that would cause it to start disconnecting like this. If anyone has any suggestions I'm more than open to trying things that can help fix this.
Thanks!

Wow that's a bit extreme for a Bluetooth fix. Maybe your headphones you got just don't work well with the Pixel 2 XL. Are you moving around with the headphones and is the phone far when this happens? Maybe it's Vanced and try comparing with regular YouTube app? Do you use other Bluetooth devices and are those having issues as well?

Well, I just fished out my old headphones, and they are unusable. youtube and play music are both extremely stuttery, though it doesn't seem to be losing connection. This has all been with the headphones less than 1m from the phone, both for the old and new ones, and using local music so it's nothing to do with streaming either. It's a little strange that they exhibit such a different symptom to the other headphones, though the old ones were some cheap unbranded ebay job from china of dubious quality and unknown bluetooth version while the new ones are actual branded ones, and bluetooth 4.0
And yeah, pretty extreme, but I'd been messing around a little in my root explorer and trying to get something unrelated working. I didn't think anything I'd done would have anything to do with bluetooth, but figured it was better to nuke'n'pave to rule that out as well.

Unfortunately, no, just the two sets of headphones. I do have a laptop though, but I have no idea if it's possible to connect a phone to a laptop and use the laptop as a speaker for the phone.
