Contact Sony about Wear 2.0 for SW3 - Sony Smartwatch 3

The Sony Smartwatch 3 is fully capable of housing Wear 2.0 and has the same specs as half of the devices that are getting the update. Also, it has NFC which you could use with the new Android Pay! I'm not sure if the NFC on the SW3 is full fledged but either way, I think this device should receive wear 2.0 regardless of how old it is if the specs can handle it. If you think so too, email Sony and if a lot of us do it maybe they'll notice. Here's a copy of what I sent them:
Very disappointed that the Smartwatch 3 will not be receiving Wear 2.0. It's very unreasonable as it has the same specs as half of the devices that will be getting the upgrade. In fact, it has better specs than some! The SW3 has NFC which is now finally going to be useful with Android Pay! Just take one good look at any website that just posted about Wear 2.0 and you'll see it's not just me that's upset about this. This device is a great smartwatch and is fully capable of housing Android Wear 2.0.
Update!!: Sorry, guys! I haven't been getting any email notifications from this thread. I had no idea so many people have been viewing it! Here is the link to where you can send them an email: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/swr50/contactUs/mail/?region=en_GB
Hope this works, fingers crossed.
Update 2: I will be making a separate thread but here I see a link to a change.org petition I made because the other one wasn't very persuasive. https://www.change.org/p/sony-wear-2-0-on-sony-sw3?recruiter=680990369&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=share_email_responsive

Well stated!

Which sony email that you used? Can i have it too?

Hello SW3 users.
My concern is that the new app delivery model will make our watch a dumb watch. I bought this watch less than a year ago just for the fitness apps, and without them for me it's completely useless.
To the OP: if you share the email address that you've used we can concentrate on a single target!

http://www.xperiablog.net/2017/02/08/sony-smartwatch-3-not-on-the-android-wear-2-0-list/
This just makes me wanna crawl in a corner and cry. I dont think its Sony's fault I blame stupid Google because if it wernt for them all snapdragon 801 devices would have Nougat offically but because they dont wanna give them vulkan support they dont. Same with the SW3 and its a load of crap with the SW3 if we dont get it because most watches only have 2 cores enabled so if they enabled the other 2 wouldnt that count as extra power? Snapdragon 400 should be enough for wear 2.0. I will be really sad if we dont get wear 2.0.
Edit: Huawei watch doesnt even have NFC. Unlike some other watches we also have wifi too i cant see what would be missing to support wear 2.0.

I have sent a message to Sony via the Xperia Care email form.
using the email link on this page.
http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/
and they replied, with the content being:
"We can advise that currently we do not have any confirmation as to whether or not the Sony SmartWatch 3 will receive the Android Wear 2.0 update, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you. We do appreciate your feedback regarding this and will pass this on internally.
For further information regarding software updates we would recommend that you check our blog regularly as any announcements would be made there. You can visit our blog at: blogs.sonymobile.com. "

Thank you. In relation to your query, no announcement regarding this has been made at this time, so I do not have details to provide regarding this.
We would be advise to keep checking the Sony Mobile Blog for information on updates on the release of any update for this watch however - ht.tp://blogs.sonymobile.com/
Steve.: OK so it's neither a yes or a no?

Sony UK told me today on live chat that they won't upgrade

It's the same as with KK for the Sony Xperia SP, a very popular device. It was on their site and then suddenly it wasn't anymore and then the final message NO KK for the SP.
I really doubt it that SW3 will get AW2.0 for the reasons that all big companies are not interested in updating, only selling new.

Likewise, I assumed as much when I bought the watch late last year - very much case of "good price and I'm not going to expect much from a device over 2 years old".
Shame though!

Sad, it's very sad...

OK guys we can't stay and just look, we have to do what we can.
The Asus Zenwatch 2 have A.W. 2, is a square watch like the SW3 the screen is just 0'03 ' bigger, the processor is the same, the SW3 has NFC an important features of A.W. 2 something that haven't the ZW2silly. There are our argument, you can had other if you want.
Now we have to create a polemic about programmed obsolescence we have to contact the tech press of our country. Google and Sony will not want to be in this case. In France programmed obsolescence is now an offence.
I believe in you, contact specialized press and consumer association.:fingers-crossed:

Welcome to Sony Xperia Support, my name is Didrik F. I’m currently reading your question. Please provide your e-mail address and contact number for personalized support.
Claus 10:38:20 am
Does the Sony Smartwatch get upgraded to Android Wear 2.0?
Didrik F 10:40:21 am
Currently Smartwactch 3 is not on the list of smartwatches to be updated to Android Wear 2.0. There is however a possibility that it might receive it later.
Claus 10:42:10 am
Ok, but you are stirring up MAJOR confusion, since several retailers and articles states that it WILL be upgraded. And other users had that confirmed by your english support. Then all of a sudden you either say it wont (message from the english support) or says it might. Either way you are backpedaling from previous claims (and a lot of info out there confirming the upgrade)
So just be honest if you ran into unforseen consequenses.. (or are considering a Smartwatch 4) 10:43:03 am
https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch-3/general/upgrade-to-android-wear-2-0-t3495518 10:44:14 am
Didrik F 10:44:25 am
We currently don't have any information about any possible unforseen consequenses or if/when Smartwatch 4 will be developed. You can however find more information about the Smartwatch 3 and Android wear on our blog.
https://www.xperiablog.net/2017/02/08/sony-smartwatch-3-not-on-the-android-wear-2-0-list/
Claus 10:44:31 am
https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch-3/general/leak-aw2-0-somewhat-confirmed-t3417669
The first link is confirmation from your own support. The other is a commercial advertising the watch with aw2.0 10:45:37 am
In the first post you can find several links to ad's, articles and other that hints the upgrade. Can you understand the confusion? 10:46:19 am
.. but the confusion start spreading around page 5
Didrik F 10:48:41 am
I can understand the confusion, but currently the Smartwatch 3 only supports Android Wear 1.5 and we currently don't have any information about it possibly getting the newest update to Android Wear 2.0.
Didrik F 10:50:48 am
I can see that you were in contact with the XDA-forum, which we do not have any direct contact with. So I can neither confirm or deny what they are telling you.
Claus 10:53:44 am
Those are dedicated users THAT IS QUOTING EMAILS from both your english and french support stating that the watch will get updated to Android Wear 2.0.. It is not XDA telling me that it will.. It is users quoting mails from your own support. Untill you suddenly backpedaled a few days ago.. Something tells me that you had unforseen beef with google, but you wont admit it.
We just want what was hinted to us in both support-mails and ads (which admittedly was taken down again, but well documented). Its not to be rough, but I smell a class-action lawsuit incoming. 10:54:52 am
You have some VERY dedicated customers. And it doesn't quite seem like you know how oustanding a product your watches really is compared to the market. You should really embrace this niche. 10:55:57 am
Didrik F 10:56:42 am
I'm sorry, but as I said, we currently don't have any more information about Android Wear 2.0 and if it will be released to Smartwatch 3.
Claus 10:57:17 am
Ok.. And the earlier mails from your english and french support was a mistake, or?
And one last thing.. I reached out via mail support several times, but haven't got and answer: The swr510c adapter, briefly on the market in japan, will that be back in stock? Either in japan or elsewhere on the globe? 10:59:14 am
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-SWR510C-Wrist-Holder-SmartWatch/dp/B017YHTYKI 11:00:04 am
A piece of plastic, currently going on ebay for same as the price of the watch.. So I think its sought for.
Didrik F 11:02:56 am
As we are only the support for the Nordic market, I cannot answer questions about the other countries markets. If you want information about when items will be in stock in our E-store, I suggest that you contact our E-store support.
Contact info: https://sonyestore.zendesk.com/hc/sv/articles/205363242-Kundtjänst
Claus 11:02:58 am
The metal band sells for 300 dollars, this piece of plastic for 150.. You treat the watch as a foster-baby, and don't see how dedictated a user base and how well made a product you actually have.
But thanks for nothing I guess.. 11:03:31 am
Didrik F 11:03:47 am
Sorry, I gave you the wrong link. https://sonyestore.zendesk.com/hc/sv/articles/205363242-Kundtjänst is the correct one.
Is there anything else I can help you with right now?
Claus 11:04:53 am
Yeah... I might actually need some contact to the support/estore for japan, to get answered if it will be back in stock there.
Didrik F 11:07:27 am
If you have a market-specific question I can only ask you to contact that specific market. We have no direct E-mail adress or phone-number to them. The best I can do is to send you a link to the Japanese website, which is in japanese.
Claus 11:08:33 am
Ok.. Then again.. Thanks for nothing and have a nice weekend.. I have the PS4, Sony mobile, 55" TV and a watch.. Will consider my future engagement in the light of this.
Didrik F 11:08:46 am
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia Support! Have a nice day!
If you need more information regarding our products, please visit www.sonymobile.com

The most I can suggest is wait for MWC if Sony doesnt unveil a new SW4 then there is still a chance that we could get AW2.0. On most sites they only say that the moto 360 and lg r watch arent getting it because they are 2014 devices with no wifi or NFC but they don't say anything about SW3. Dont forget SW3 is Sonys only android wear watch. Either it gets the update or they make SW4. Lets just wait till MWC I cant see what the point of making an SW4 would be at the moment. Most if not all watches have basically the exact same specs as SW3. I even compared our watch with the 2015 Huawei watch and we actually have a bigger screen, mor mah on the battery and NFC. Yet the Huawei watch gets the Dev preview. I think maybe it could be because the SW3 isnt as expensive as most other watches and is seemed less premium and more as a sports watch. I dont like that because it can still be a nice looking watch with the right strap. Im just trying to work my head round it. Its really is like KK on the SP again.
Contacting Sony Support is kind of pointless because you will find in different regions they will tell you different things. In one place they will say yeah well get it and in another no we wont. Its the same with their bravia support because me and a few others have been contacting them about HDR which they now claim on their site our TV has but it only does something with the content through USB. So yeah its not Sony I think you should be blaming but Google as Sony wanna be first to issue 7.1 as an oem and theyre still supporting their 2015 bravias which is good. They also still support their own old consoles too. I think we should be contacting God damn Google not Sony. Google even killed off all snapdragon 801 devices by refusing to support vulkan with the chip. The snap 801 device are really good too. Google refuse to do the drives for them. SCREW GOOGLE!!! Theyre the ones to blame if we dont get the update.

(BOOTLOADER UNLOCK SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN) Operation: Mosh started by [TSON]

OPERATION: Make Our Selves Heard (#OPMOSH)
Motorola Mobility Inc. has become famous for its lies, slanderous ways, and tendency to flat out prove time and time again that it cares not for its customers after they walk out of that store with their phone. Since the early days of Android, post Droid 1, we have sat down and took our locked bootloaders like a man. There came to be a boiling point - and a full-out war was launched on their social media sites. Sound familiar? The same thing that worked with HTC and now with Asus. We received a generic "second half of 2011" timing. Guess what! It's now Q1 2012, and not only have they missed their deadline, but they have IGNORED all bootloader-related questions, given NO official announcement of their plans still being in motion, and thus must have forgotten that we are a core, dedicated community that wishes nothing more than to enjoy the phones we were given. Let's make ourselves heard again, turn the heat up, and make Moto (like HTC) get off of their asses and DO SOMETHING. Everyone counts!
Moto's Facebook - Moto's Twitter - Petition
TRY TWEETING:
@Motorola - How about those unlocked bootloaders you promised second half of 2011? @HTC cares, do you? http://moto.ly/icsboot
TRY POSTING ON THEIR FACEBOOK WALL:
@Motorola - I'm a faithful Motorola customer, and I'm starting to have second thoughts. Honor what Android stands for, openness, and give us the bootloader unlock tool that you promised "second-half of 2011". http://moto.ly/icsboot #OPMOSH
MAKE SURE TO SIGN THE PETITION AS WELL:
We'll be throwing this Moto's way after we get enough signatures.
We NEED to be heard to get anywhere. Spread the word to your Facebook friends, your Twitter friends, your Google Talk friends, your favorite Android news site... Spread the word! Bring freedom to the Android ecosystem, like Andy Rubin and Rich Miner intended.
Thank you SO much for your support. This community is amazing and I know our endeavors will be successful. See you on Moto's Facebook!

To Whom It May Concern,
The independent communities that you catered to with your announcement earlier last year are very very excited for your bootloader unlock solution. However, the "second half" of 2011 has come and gone quietly; why is it that the public has received no notice that the bootloader unlock solution is still in works? A small-scale petition has made its rounds about the Android community, and has already gained over 200 signatures about 4 hours after being made public, without the help of any news sites (yet): http://www.change.org/petitions/motorola-mobility-inc-unlock-all-smartphone-bootloaders-2
Clearly, the demand is still quite strong (as can be seen on your social media networks, Facebook and Twitter), and it would be quite reassuring to the communities that not only pay for your devices every upgrade opportunity, but also help develop the Android operating system that we all know and love, to have an announcement that the bootloader unlock/relock solution is still on track for a timely release. This would also potentially double as reassurance to on-the-fence Galaxy Nexus/HTC smartphone buyers to go with the Motorola Droid RAZR, with its KEVLAR backing, 4G LTE speed, powerful 1.2 GHz dual core processor, and new bootloader unlock/relock solution instead. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
A Motorola Mobility Entusiast.

I did my part, but the outcome so far is not good: look at my exchange with the bozos @ moto europe (read from bottom to top, I extracted it from the last email):
Me:
Your answer, while not as clear as I hoped, falls clearly in the 2) category: Contrary to its previous declarations (yes, it means lying) and in contrast with its competitors, Motorola do not intend to provide unloackable/relockable bootloaders. This information will be transmitted to the relevant newsgroups and social networks.
In case you wonder, it is not a positive message: There is no reason for an official relockable bootloader to void the warranty (Motorola provide such a bootloader on the Xoom), and the benefit of such a bootloader is maximal after the legal waranty anyway (for devices no longer supported by Motorola but still enjoying an active developer community).
Best regards
Moto europe:
Dear Mr xxx,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We would like to inform you that from Motorola Customer care service we will never give any means to unlock the bootloaders since it will void your phone's warranty. If you are a developer, please contact Motodev at http://developer.motorola.com/
Kind regards,
Motorola Mobile Devices Contact Centre
Me:
Sorry, but your answer is in total contradiction with previous Motorola
declarations:
Motorola official position in 2011 (from
http://www.groubal.com/motorola-lockedencrypted-bootloader-policy/ )
Bootloaders: It’s our plan to offer an unlockable/relockable bootloader,
currently found on the Motorola XOOM, in future software releases
starting later this year, where operator and channel partners will allow
it. Going forward, check out MOTODEV, the Motorola developer network,
for the latest information.
Exclusive: Motorola RAZR will be the first phone to incorporate
Motorola’s new bootloader solution
Posted by Irwin Proud on October 21st, 2011 3:02 PM - In Carriers,
Exclusive, Modding, Phones
Another example from
http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope/posts/234252379967105 :
Motorola Europe @Martin Malinowski the software version featured on
Motorola RAZR has been built with an unlockable/ relockable bootloader
included. However, whether that feature is enabled is dependent on
carrier and operator partner restrictions. Thanks.
Now there are two possibilities:
1) Confirm the previous Motorola position (that bootloaders will be
unlocked starting from end-2011). In this case, an apology for the delay
and more precision as to which device will get the update when would
strongly be appreciated. Note that the carrier and operator partner
restriction does not stand in Belgium, as phones are sold without
constract and not within operator outlets.
2) Infirm the previous Motorola position, i.e. "Sorry, we lied". And let
your customers pay back this behavior as it deserve.
I would appreciate a clear answer: 1) or 2).
Thanks,
best regards,
xxx
Moto:
Dear Mr xxx,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We are very sorry to inform you that Motorola will not unlock any bootloaders or give any methods to do so since this practice will void the phone's warranty. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.
Kind regards,
Motorola Mobile Devices Contact Centre
Me:
Dear Motorola,
Last year you promised that, late in 2011, you will start to distrubute new bootloader solution that can be unlocked/relocked, subject to network provider veto.
In Belgium, phone are sold network-unlocked and in general electronic retail shops intead of network provider outlets. In means that the veto do not apply in any way.
Still, although we are now in the early days of 2012, we have no news of unlocked bootloaders.
Unlocked bootloaders allowing custom unsigned kernels are extremely important to the developer community, they allow experimentation and community support, while locked bootloaders with signed kernels makes the job of the community much more complicated. Note that even on a signed kernel, phone can be rooted and custom modules loaded, so the locked bootloader fail to secure the phone for the end user, while it is a huge annoyance for the dev community.
Your main competitors (HTC ans Samsung) have unlocked their bootloaders. You promised to do so. Now it is (more than) time to honor that promise.
I love my Defy, but with locked bootloaders I feel it does not have the support it desserve from the community, and having experienced the effect of a locked bootloader, it will be the last Moto device I buy if Moto do not honor its promise.
Regards,
xxx
To all, feel free to post the exchange in any media you see fit....

I emailed minuum and this was their response.
Thanks for letting us know! Unfortunately, based on current development priorities it seems unlikely we will have a finished version for the Moto 360 anytime soon.
If you haven't already, I recommend following us on your preferred social media network(Google+,Twitter,Facebook) and/or signing up for ourmailing listin order to receive the latest Minuum news, including any plans for a Moto 360 release.
All the best,
I joined the mailing list a couple days ago and put 360 as my watch. If demand is high enough, it will come.
I sent them an email as well saying a huge part of XDA is requesting it, etc.

So be patient. It'll come. iOS just has a bigger user base than Moto 360, so that gets priority

I had email conversation with Prem Business Dev @ Minuum. Since there was no demand the project was put on hold. Now they are working on a working beta.

Are you sure? This is an email I just got from Prem:
"Hi Omar,
Thanks for the input and we will definitely take it into consideration.
You would be surprised at the development resources necessary to completely rebuild Minuum for a circular watch face. Though we would love to just fully develop every cool permutation of Minuum, we are constrained by the resources available to us.
To be honest, the only realistic way we might be able to justify doing this is if the Android Wear A. officially opened up their platform to third-party keyboards and B. if a circular watch manufacturer engaged us in some sort of partnership.
Though this could happen, I don't see this being likely in the very near future.
Best,"
I replied back to him asking for a beta if possible or something that can at least be temporarily functional for the time being until greater resources are available.

Yes. From our conversion, it looks like they have been working on the Moto 360 and the keyboard is currently in development. I would like close to finish product to try because I have a feeling this might drain our battery.

It has almost no effect to battery life on my g watch. If that means anything. Couldn't be that much different

Agreed. Keyboards are not supposed to drain battery. Their coding is not that vast where it requires so much memory to be used. Someone got the STOCK android keyboard to come up by accident if you saw in the minuum thread. Maybe we can utilize that in the mean time? Anyone know how to enable it? I know adb has to be used. I'm assuming Minuum used the stock apk and built upon that.

EXCLUSIVE Sony Smartwatch 3 - Test Reports

These documents contain additional technical details, and internal photos of the device.
Confirmed WiFi, and full NFC communication.
Some of the images are clearly early prototypes, but this is the final report regarding it's hardware specs.
Enjoy
That would be great, but if these was made with prototypes we still can't be sure if final version has it or not.
This is so ridiculous. Come on Sony, why no one there cares talking about your own device?
They could lead the new generation of Smart watches but their silence means they probably don't care...

I agree 100%. This is the first watch that combines that whole fitness aspect with android wear. They should be getting this watch out there in the media as much as possible.
I think they must be working thru some of the new parts of the android wear update.
Isn't the SW3 wifi compatible ? I checked the white paper and I cannot see anything... :crying:
I found the answer myself ^^ document 2407959 white paper page 3

Hi. The post I put up earlier shows that Sony can't tell us whether they will update the smartwatch. Could someone find a way to confirm that the watch will be updated so that I could by one
Unfortunately until it's officially confirmed individual emails from various members of customers services are likely to say different things.
Even official posts on Twitter or other social media site still do not guarantee android 2 on the swr50.
It's just a waiting game and fingers crossed...love my watch as it is now and yes aw2 would be nice but I did not buy it with that in mind....
What I also find suspicious is that aw2 is already out in preview mode for other watch phones yet nothing for swr50.
Not a good sign....But enjoy your watch now.
No mention of Sony Smartwatch 3 in list for Wear 2.0.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/12/22/14057656/google-smartwatch-android-wear-2-0-launch
android central also posted the list, no AW2.0 for SW3..

:crying:
oh well, time to save up for something else and move on. It's been great SW3, but it looks like your time on my wrist is almost at an end. Note to self - you're not buying a watch, you're buying a phone accessory, so expect to replace it as often as your phone.
i think they will manage it somehow, why they would confirm it on twitter, support etc.

On one hand. Getting AW2.0 would be good to keep the device alive. BUT... All or most of the AW2.0 Dev Previews were for ROUND devices and the UI looks to be made around that form factor. And the SWr50 is Square... I think AW1.5 better suits SWr50 more that AW2.0.

Good point. Also, the sources that told you which devices are getting AW2.0 can't confirm anything... They can only go off what information they have. As Sony hasn't given anything, we just have to wait and see. Them not putting the SWr50 on the list is just lack of information for the time being.
I have written to Sony Support a moment ago and i'll see.

No, they added round screen lists, they didn't take square away. Square watches won't have round menus.
Zen 2 and M600 are getting 2.0, anyway.

Yeah, I think it's best to get in contact with the technical department or something because I guess the people in charge of the commercial aspect (twitter/FB) will probably say something like that " Wait for the notification to appear " even tho they don't know much about current or future firmware developing of android wear.

Exactly
Just to add my thoughts.... The sony z3 had an android 7.0 beta but was never released with sony saying it couldn't because it did not meet googles hardware rules. Specifically support for opengl 3.0 or vulkon. I wonder if its the same for the smartwaches as they will be upgraded to 7.1. I know the sw3 has opengl 2.0 but not sure what each watch on the list has.(Apart from nixon and moto sport have opengl 3.0). Any way if its not that then maybe something similar.

Original HW support - will it still continue?

As we know original Huawei Watch is nearly 2 year old so that raises a big question: will there be anymore updates after initial AW 2.0 update? I hope there will be (at least some minor fixes & security updates) or does Huawei focus on their HW2 support from now on? I understand that there probably won't be big future updates anymore for HW1 (like AW 2.5 or AW 3.0). What do you guys think what the future holds for original HW?

I'm expecting the worse, to be honest. Unfortunately it's a trend every manufacturer follows, after merely 2 years of being launched they say like the soup nazi on Seinfield:"No more updates for you!"
This was posted by an official Huawei XDA account:
We noted this issue with our development team to see if maybe a future update can help resolve the issue. Should any of you have additional issues or inquires, please don't hesitate to contact Huawei UK Customer Care directly via the email, chat, or hotline options found at our Huawei UK Consumer website: http://consumer.huawei.com/uk/support/index.htm
This is is not to discourage you from discussing it further here; it is merely to say that Huawei pays attention to these types of posts to see what we can do to improve user experience.
So yes, probably.

Watch's update are a bit different than phone's update, manufactures cant do any change to their watch's firmware ,and updates will provide by google itself!
Google is more supportive of their devices so we should get updates more than we expect
Sent from my Huawei Mate 8 using Tapatalk
Huawei has just two watches to update almost with similar hardware, so it shouldn't be difficult to support them both, since even now the original watch is still on production lines.

They have at least 3. The Huawei Watch 2 has two different versions, with different hardware.
