Hi,
That answer was written by me. Until now that's all what we know but hopefully it can be released much sooner. Unfortunately, nothing is certain yet.
We'll inform the community as soon as we can promise at least an approximate release date.

So I guess you work directly for UMI as a software engineer or community manager?

Yes, communication and a bit of marketing. Sorry but you cannot expect engineers to pop up here.

I have not seen many UMI brand phones which have released source codes, but I was wondering if you have any plans of releasing the kernel sources and/or full sources for this device.
I am looking to buy this phone, but I would like to be able to compile my own kernel and ROM for the devices I own

dont be waiting for nougat.i have a z3+ with nougat and in android N everything is worse than mm

The new Ulefone Gemini Pro was presented last week on MWC 2017.
http://www.stuff.tv/my/features/ulefone-gemini-pro-almost-carbon-copy-iphone-7-plus
This phone also has a X27 SoC, but it is already running Android 7.0.
So Mediatek released Nougat-drivers for X27 a few weeks ago to Ulefone.

This makes me sad.

Well its quite possible some dev could work some magic , bet the main boards are not too different from a reference board by mediatek , umi spec has well known components for screen and camera so possible to hack a port from same soc or even just tweak a few drivers and swap kernal ...we need a dev

Are there any sources out?

Not from UMI, there are phones with mtek socs running nougat , there seems to be phones with other components the same running nougat. So the ingredients are out, problem is cooking this into a working ROM would be a big job.
I recall when mm came out my HTC had a hacked together version that worked quite well, but the source for loli was out so there was a starting point.
Linage os would clearly be the place to start , find a mtek soc based ROM an hack I guess, beyond me , but someone who understands could prob work something

Not in a million years

I hope they release soon so we can get you a customized rom, because the original is leaving to be desired, its customization is very bad. Congratulations to all programmers who are interested in customizing a rom for our Z.

Looks like it won't be too long now till 7 beta ....

Waiting anxiously ....

Redmi 1S Kernel source to be released in early Q1 2015 [ Update - Released ]

Update 2 - The source has now been released on Github !! Here it is -
https://github.com/MiCode/H1S_kernel
Enjoy and Happy New Year
Update 1 - Donovan Sung, kernel development head of Xiaomi has himself confirmed on MIUI forum that he's going to release the sources on 31st December 2014.. So guys rejoice, bugless Lollipop isn't far away !!
Guys.. Today I have got good news for you all... A friend of mine emailed Xiaomi Kernel Development head asking when they are going to release the source code for the public !! This was the reply he got from him ( See attached image )
that is a good news! its better late than never. but I guess for a device like this, pushing kernel source while releasing the product is very very imp. It limits its true power. due to this restriction cm12 development is getting seriously delayed.
and the weird thing is, my old device huawei y300 is getting cm12 nightly as early as 1st week of dec. The build is ready and almost everything is working. only some minor bugs, which will be polished. and here devs are working hard to get the primary source ready. its a real pity!
It is really a very good news.It may also happens that our redmi will enter into the android one device list that earlier told by hugo bara.:highfive:
Can you post more details? Maybe show the full email sent by your friend?
That's the complete mail. 1st one for Hugo Barra. And 2nd one was the forwarded mail.

See the next post after yours.. I mean the one above this !! He posted full details.....
Glad to see at least it will be released [emoji3]
i spammed a lot in miui forum about this...finally found it win
Dreaming to get a Custom kernel
Early Q1 could be two months from now (at least), I wouldn't call it a win, it's really really late. Also, this is a private email not an official announcement, I'm sorry but I don't really trust them. They could be answering that in the email so they don't get more requests to release kernel sources in a while. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with Xiaomi, each day they remind me a little bit more to Huawei...

Bro.. Its better late than never !! And they will surely release it.. Same was the case with Mi2, they released the kernel source of this device after 9-10 months of release but they did release it !! Redmi 1S was released in May, so you can expect the kernel source to released by February !!
Coming from a mi3 user...ppl in our forum are really pissed with unavailability of the sources till date...we have received many such egs from mr Barra(he'll release in a week or so)but nothing has happened....hope it's for real this time
Wow bro
Hats off

AOSP on these devices is hand built based on trial and error, knowledge of coding off what lil source is a available, and the blood sweat and tears of other developers with bits and pieces from different hardware across many devices to get it to work, since it's like building custom firmware from the ground up through reverse engineering because everything is proprietary.
HTC is building nougat and testing, and they have all the source code and hardware drivers, firmware, etc, and I've seen some predictions it may come as early as quarter 4 I believe, and then we'll have custom sense roms. But the developers will have to build up AOSP, and they've worked their butts off to get CM with Marshmallow as far along as they have.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that once HTC releases the Nougat update, especially the kernel source, 3rd party ROMs should come easier, or at least ease development. At least, that's what I've observed from my 5 years on XDA.
Last official news about the nougat update from HTC was back in August, stating Q4 for unlocked versions...
as for AOSP/CM, even though CM is still in alpha/MM its came a long way and can be used as a daily driver. So if any dev decides to take on nougat at any level after the HTC release/sources i'd be happy
There's an alleged leak of the Nougat update for the 10 here. Not sure how legit it is though, but if it turns out to be true then the update isn't too far away. On the plus side, it looks like HTC will finally allow us to customize the quick settings tiles.

that's actually screenshots of the HTC Bolt, or "HTC 10 Evo" depending on where you live. Translating the screenshots shows 3GB total RAM....
My experience in previous major version updates and HTC elevate participation makes me feel like they're already quite a ways into testing builds, and I have been VERY happy with HTC's rate of development and support life cycle on devices from the M7 forward. I think the nougat release for the HTC 10 is going to be sweet, as a personal side note.

Yep you are right, can confirm it. Typing it from that device
But nonetheless nougat on the 10 will look the same and it will be out very soon I think. Shouldn't be that long anymore. Testing stage should be very advanced by now. But we will see if in November or December

Yawn! Color me totally underwhelmed.
People have to keep in mind that devs need the official oreo to fix bugs and other stuff in oreo roms for our Potter. Some might not care and I get that, but we still need the stock oreo rom.

What's up with the kernel version? Sure, it's not the newest update at 3.18.71, though apparently this is to ensure Qualcomm and other driver providers can keep supporting the chips. I'm hoping that Treble can make this simpler for those devices with native Treble support...
Rebasing to a new kernel version during an upgrade is tricky. QCOM and other chipset vendors tend to stick with a particular kernel version for the lifetime of a chipset family, and just backport the desirable features and fixes. If we move the kernel "ahead" of our chipset vendor then they have a much harder time supporting us. Since we try to get the upgrades out as quickly as possible, we stay aligned with the chipset vendor's kernel as much a possible.
I suspect that Google will continue to pressure chipset vendors to keep their kernels up-to-date, so maybe we will see some changes in 2018. We will also ask Google to consider a kernel update as a "security update" rather than an a full-fledged upgrade. This removes a number of barriers to getting new kernels into the handsets of consumers as quickly as possible.

Theoretically it will be released in January or February but nothing confirmed from LG. It probably takes so much time because Android 8.0 treble support is not as good as 8.1 so they have to rework it.

Xperia XZ1 Compact - Android 10 Update

Here we go guys, Some manufacturers already showed their roadmap to android 10 (nokia, one plus etc) today.
Im creating this topic to discuss the Update Release for our Phone, so we dont have multiple threads for discussing it. News and things like that are welcome.
Android 10 will be released very soon for the Pixel.
Now let us pray that we are also going to receive it. And hopefully not like in 2023.

Yep, and Official Android 10 binaries 5 posts above is just an illusion, you are completely right !
I'm hoping for a full Android 10 Sony branded update, but not holding it hope.
We've got AOSP support, but there's a lot of driver and codec deficiencies in that build, like losing aptX and H.264.
https: developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/supported-devices-and-functionality/current-platform-functionality-maintained
Hey Sony - please make a Difference and keep updating Devices to latest Android for (at least) 5 Years.
i'm sure that would also increase Sales !
