Lenovo P2 model differences - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

Hi all I've been looking to buy a Lenovo P2 and have noticed there seems to be 2 different versions- the P2a42 and the P2c72. Whats the difference? They're not available where I live so need to import. Thanks for your help!

Ah ok thanks. Are they identical apart from that? I really want to get one but i'm worried the china version won't get updates or will be missing all the google apps like play store etc.

You would need to worry about the frequencies that both models are configured for. Typically Lenovo has CN and ROW (Rest Of World), and with my previous P780, I had to set a custom ROM to make it work as ROW using Europe frequencies for GSM.
I heard that for the P2, this is the differences between the models but I'm not sure...

Awesome thanks. I've spoken to a supplier who has said they load the international rom on the phone- does that sound possible? And the 3G/4G bands are the same as the phone i'm using now so that's positive. Thanks for your help!

Hi, i live in europe and have bought p2c72 4GB/64GB variant, at first start i've check fw and it was p2c72 but when i put sim card and go by configure process fw has changed to p2a42 also i've get update to latest fw.
btw. on top of the phone between headphone jack and second microphone it says p2c72 and on the box of course.

That's interesting, did the box look like it had been opened? The 4GB/64GB is the version i'm really looking for. Did it have google play etc when you first turned the phone on and did the initial setup? Thanks for your help!

Box was sealed with lenovo sticker's, on 1st boot i was curious about fw and apps that was installed so i skip initial setup and check fw and it was p7c72, google play was in it and few other google apps also some lenovo no chinese apps were installed so i switch off the phone and put simcard and microsd and boot the phone and make initial setup, after it was made i get notification about system update so i made it, after reboot i've go to check security patch i notice that fw version change to p2a42, lte works normal but i don't know how to check which band are used now so (don't know service codes for lenovo), on first battery drainage i made SOT of almost 12h where on my oneplus3 after nugat i get only 3,5 h to 4h max also i wonder if p2 gets nugat and how horrible battery life will be.

Does LTE Band 20 (800 MHz) work on your p2c72? I have bought one yesterday and updated OTA to P2a42_S062_170117_ROW but LTE doesn't seem to work except from shopping mall, where LTE works on Band 3 (1800 MHz).

Try downloading "Network Signal Guru" app from the Google Play store.
This app should be able to display it. If you take a look at the screenshots, it shows LTE Band, which should read "B20 | 800 MHz" in the most of Europe I guess. At least in rural areas, which are usually covered with lower frequencies.
BTW, this app should also be able to display all supported LTE Bands (check the screenshots). It would be most helpful, if you could check it as well.
EDIT: Maybe even simpler is to use "SignalCheck Lite" app from Play store.

OK, thanks. It's hard to tell, which band is actually used. But it's great, that your phone actually works with LTE. Could you possibly share, where have you bought it?

I bought the P2c72 and it has a chinese ROM. It comes with a dual SIM and 64GB. Would anyone know if it is possible to apply the P2a42 ROM to the device?

[Q] Differenve between EUR and SEA version - samw d855 model

Hy!
I just bought a new phone and wanted to find out if there are any differences compared to the EUR version?
The model number is the same - it looks like everything is the same except at the software updates: its v10I-SEA-XX not v10g-EUR-XX.
The only difference I found is that the updates are arriving earlier.
Can somebody confirm the differences please?
Thanks!

Hi Jah
There is a work round to this you can access the hidden menu
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and on preferred network type, choose lte/gsm/wcdma
This way you can get 4G without having to mod or root the phone.
I am pretty happy with stock at the moment. I think you need to reset it each time you reboot but to be honest not having to do that very often either.
I hope that this helps

Yes also with magic menu 3845#*855# but once you restart you need to use the magic menu again as it lost LTE connection. Also this version is not covered by European LG warranty.

[Q] Lenovo Z90-7 (VIBE SHOT) 4G UK HELP PLEASE?

Hi guys,
I have just bought this phone and flashed it with the latest firmware Android 5.1 as per the post on this forum. I am now very worried because my phone only seems to be connectiong to 2.4ghz network instead of 5ghz. Also I cannot get mobile data working.
What ROM/kernel did you flash? Many ROMs run 5.1.x

Hi I used this rom Z90a40_USR_S118_1505272046_Q2020131.4_ROW_qpst
which was mentioned here on the forum as the best for Android 5.1
Hey man, I've done some research and it seems your ROM/phone should support LGT(4G). I would highly suggest completely wiping your phone, reflash ROM/ Gasps/ kernel (if you have one) and see if the issue persists
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
The seller says I can send the item back for a full refund but unsure if he will give me a refund as I've changed the ROM to 5.1 The worst thing would be sending the device back to China
Okay, have you tried manually setting your APN? Fallow the steps below and findnthe APN settings online for your carrier, let me know what happens.
Many users have told me their 3G/4G LTE data network connection is broke after installing a custom ROM. *Well, in most of these cases, it can easily be fixed by manually setting the APN (Access Point Name). *This applies to any GSM networks such as*AT&T or T-Mobile. *For CDMA networks like Sprint or Verizon, they also use APNs but you don’t have to set them and should work out of the box.
Every carrier uses its own APN Settings to get its 3G/4G LTE network working on an Android smartphone or tablet device. *Now, these APN settings are usually “downloaded” automatically to your*phone*when you insert a SIM card. *BUT, there are times where the APN are not selected automatically OR when the APN settings are not downloaded.
In those instances, your 3G/4G LTE data will not work but that can easily be fixed.
Step 1. First, browse your Settings menu and find the “Access Point Names” menu. *This is usually under “Mobile Network Settings” or “More*mobile Networks or “Mobile Networks” under Settings menu depending on the Android device used.
Step 2. Once you are in the APN Settings menu, first thing you should check it that the APN is on the correct one. *If the correct APN is not checked (sometimes this happens), simply check ON the correct APN for your carrier. *That will make your 3G/4G LTE data working right away
tep 3. There are also times where the wrong APN is listed or there’s simply no APNs listed. *In these rare cases, you can simply add a new APN, hit the “+” button.
Step 4. For APN setting, the “Name” can be anything. *“APN” setting is the most important, usually you only have to fill this out for your phone to work.
For T-Mobile, you can set the “APN” to “fast.t-mobile.com”. *AT&T, you can set “APN” to “phone” or “pta”.
Now setting “APN” will get your data working but you still need to input additional settings to get your MMS working.
ep 5. You can usually Google APN settings for your carrier. *Whether you are in Thailand or in the U.S., simply Google for your APN settings like:
Google “t-mobile APN 4G LTE” for T-Mobile 4G LTE APN settings in the U.S.
Google “True Move APN 3g” for True Move 4G APN settings in Thailand.
Eventually, you should be able to find the full APN settings for your carrier whether you live in Hawaii or on North Pole.
Once you have the correct APN settings, simply input them into your APN settings on the phone
Step 7. Next, make sure to select the new APN Setting you have saved. *Within 5-30 seconds, your phone should start picking up 3G or 4G LTE signals and your data should be working again on the phone.

When I go into settings and network it only gives me the options to pick a 3G network. I did a lot of research before buying this phone and was assured it would work on 4G within the UK my old phone the Sony Xperia ZR worked on 4G fine. I do have the latest nano sim.
Here are the details of the Lenovo Z90-7 As per GSM Arena
Technology
GSM / HSPA / LTE
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands LTE 800 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - Lenovo Z90-7
And from my network operator's webpage I get the following info
4G from Tesco Mobile (o2) uses the following network frequencies:
800 MHz (0.8 GHz)
Am I having this problem as I flashed it with new firmware?

I believe the phone doesn`t have the LTE 800 frequency.
Search other websites than gsm arena.
That`s why you don`t get 4G.
Hi Friends,
Thanks for the quick replies I really appreciate the help. In regards to the APN settings I've checked these and these seem to be correct.
So it *Should* work EE
Interesting, I was hoping the APN settings were the cause. I'm sorry you couldn't fix your issue. I'm sure you will have better luck with your next device.

Valter84 you are correct I spoke to the seller and he advised that there is a mistake on the listing the phone does not support the LTE 800Mhz frequency.
So it *Should* work in the UK on the network EE which uses Band 3 FDD LTE (1800mhz). I've tried an EE sim and it still does not work at all on 4G.

Hi, I have the same trouble as you , anyway I have not flashed my Z90-7 yet. My chinesse seller from Aliexpress claims , that this phone supports all usual LTE frequencies including 800 Mhz.
But I can use here in Czech republic at T mobile provider only 1800 Mhz which covers only Prague and Mlada Boleslav . Rest of our country covers LTE on 800 Mhz only.

This seems to be a worldwide problem outside China. It is nothing to do with APN settings, etc.
A company is selling this phone on Amazon USA and they have specifically mentioned 4G does not work in the USA.
I am based in the UK and 4G doesn't work. I have flashed the phone and have now android 5.1 installed on it, but until official EU version of this phone is released we will be stuck with 3G

Dear people, wake up, many Chinese markets are deceiving customers by providing them misleading information. LTE bands is one clear example. Chinese LTE bands are diferent and they just flash the device's ROM for multi-language and add Google Play to make it "international version" but it is not. DON'T BUY IT!
I double checked with this company minideal.net which i cannot recommend. The company confirmed full FDD LTE (4G) functionality on following frequency bands: 800/1800/2100/2600MHz. But my smartphone IS NOT WORKING on 800MHz in The Czech Republic because it is only 1800/2100/2600MHz in fact. Within the PayPal Dispute and Claim they completely turned around their statements concerning LTE bands.
Complete tests were made with my network operator provider to rull out other problems. You can easily check that in these comments and in some fair e-shops where they don't twist the truth.

This is correct, the phone doesn't work on 800MHz. However it should because Qualcom 615 supports 800MHz. the reason it doesn't work is because the modem is probably locked within the ROM. I am hoping once this phone is release european version then it should work at 800MHz.

Hi, i already have had the European version of Lenovo Vibe Shot (chinese name Lenovo Z90-7) in my hands. I purchased it recently to compare the Czech and the Chinese model concurrently. All worked perfectly well with the Czech model. The device connected to 800MHz LTE band (band 20) INSTANTLY after the Android system start. No setting necessary at all. It connected to 800MHz T-mobile band in the Czech Republic. While with the Chinese only 3G or less! Another LTE band (2100MHz perhaps) worked well - Vodafone Czech Republic. So LTE hardware is ok but 800MHz missing...

Well, i consulted this with some mobile phone services earlier and they did not recommend updating the ROM like that. Your device can end up dead after it. The ROM must be perfectly tuned to the particular HW specification of your device to avoid the fatal consequences. It is quite risky... i was thinking the same way. I am disputing the seller via PayPal asking for partial refund to be able to re-sell the phone to someone who can do without 800MHz.
Also you cannot freely update the android system without loosing the multi-language and Google Play... So shopping mobile phones in China? NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR ME!

Ok, i understand your point. I was thinking the same way. Some mobile phone services would refuse to update the ROM like that though, because it can kill the mobile completely. And who will take the responsibility? The Chinese dishonest dealers should! Let us tell them, we don't like their deception and lies! They are playing the "we don't know" game, but they surely know enough about the differences between Chinese and non-Chinese LTE bands.
But yes, there should be a way to change the ROM the same way the distributors of the real European version of this phone do it. Only where shall we get that ROM and ROM update done? Because, as i have already experienced, the local (Czech) Lenovo representation has no interest in helping owners of Lenovo products purchased in China. How predicable...

Euro Rom - missing LTE band 3

Hello guys
i got the OP3 A3000. i got mine from the official website and its the American version.
ilive in Israel, and there for my device wont have a LTE band #3 like the European versions come with.
my question is, if ill install a Euro rom..would it include the missing LTE band?
* is the anyway other way to pass this issue or installing the missing band ?
thanks in advance.
Eli
Nope. The bands are defined outside of the rom, I'd assume in the modem configuration.

Unless you have the encryption keys to program the baseband...
There's a thread here where people have been trying to change bands without success.
My friend you should check if the phone has the band you need before you buy the phone.
A3000 model it's also for China region.
tl;dr - bands can't be changed

The internet told me to go to Engineering/Service Mode/Menu. The app Shortcut Manager Lite shows no such thing. I REALLY want to lock my band to a certain one as my phone always decides to choose the slow one. It's easy on Samsung phone or so I've heard. Did Google block this?
I don't mean the LTE only or CDMA/GSM selection. I mean the specific LTE bands. (For eg. 5,40) No Verizon. International unblocked version.
Cheers. Thanks.
Bump?
Also fun fact, my parents call the Pixel XL The Megapixel. Hehe.
Sorry for bumping.
Had the same issue with the Nexus 6P even after trying different radio versions with Cyanogenmod 13 and Android 7.1.X stock. On the Nexus 5X I didn't have any problems accessing the band locking option but I found this to resolve the issue on the Nexus 6P: http://www.trona-tech.net/network-signal-guru-on-nexus-6p/
I had to flash the "Engineering Radio" that I found using that link...perhaps one needs to flash the equivalent "Engineering Radio" on the Pixel to enable band locking with Network Signal Guru?
If you flash a custom ROM you can get band locking.
Fyi, on one of the official XL builds I was able to do the locking in that app. Haven't been able to in any of the last few builds. I told the developer but he wanted me to test and find what build/radio it was but I ain't got time for that.

Lol it's not useful to know that it worked at one point on a stock rom build? You must not be very bright.

More the fact a developer volunteered to resolve the problem and asked you for some information and you refused to help. You're the worst kind of user.
Great point. So all of us on this forum aren't using our phones as daily drivers and are willing and able to spend hours to flash various builds and radios and do testing and increase risk of bricking?
There are different levels of users on this forum you know.

Great to hear! If you don't mind can you share your:
1) PureNexus Version
2) Radio/Baseband Version (perhaps the same radio from 7.1.1 stock?)
3) That you're still using the free version of Network Signal Guru you lock LTE bands?
Thanks!

When you say out of the box, you mean not rooted, right? If so, could you share the app? I really want to lock bands but don't want to root. Any other tips/feedback/suggestions would be appreciated!

Yes could you please share more info...are you using this app on stock rooted 8.1? Name of app? And would you happen to know what are the preferred bands? I'm on metro pcs using a tmobile apn if that matters...
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA Labs
Out of the box, I mean install application and that's all
Not needed flashing modified radio.img etc..
Network Signal Guru, available in Play Store.
I'm rooted, stock 8.1, all working fine.
Which bands I prefer? It depends on the carrier and country.
Here in Poland (and probably most EU country's) LTE bands are 3, 7, 8, 20.
And the better band is the one that is less loaded and on which I have better speeds.
Just test it.

Look..You're in US so you need to look for US band on T-Mobile.
I've found this article:
https://www.phonearena.com/news/Che...on-T-Mobile-and-Sprint-use-in-the-USA_id77933
Based on this, T-Mobile US bands are 2, 4, 12, 66, 71**
**Rolling out in 2017.
T-Mobile
Finally, T-Mobile has been the loudest and arguably the fastest growing 4G LTE network, especially in the big cities.
2017 Update: T-Mobile has won a big 30MHz chunk of spectrum in an auction held this summer. The frequencies that it is now allowed to operate are in the low-band, 600MHz band, and are referred to as 4G LTE band 71. The new band 71 is rolling out to cities in Wyoming, Northwest Oregon, West Texas, Southwest Kansas, the Oklahoma panhandle, Western North Dakota, Maine, Coastal North Carolina, Central Pennsylvania, Central Virginia and Eastern Washington by the end of 2017. This is expected to boost its coverage by 6 million people to a total of 321 million Americans.
Currently, T-Mobile's main band is still band 4 (AWS) in the 1700 MHz range. Band 2 is used in markets where band 4 is not available, but the two are also aggregated for better coverage in markets, where both are available.
Band 12, on the other hand, is where a lot of T-Mobile's growth happens. While at the beginning of the roll-out in late 2014, few phones supported band 12, currently, most popular phones do and the increased penetration of the lower-frequency band makes it preferable.

But, I don't know if this tech spec is current.
Someone else from T-Mobile US need to confirm.
For example EU bands are not current, because based on this, in Poland we have bands 3, 7, 20 (1800, 2600, 800) but we stating to use LTE900 (band8) and also slowly starting LTE2100 (I don't remember which band it is).
So best for you is to test downloads speeds on your every band, just uncheck all in Network Signal Guru, leave only one, save and test download speed with some speed test app, back to NSG, select different band, save and test again and again and again...
Look for best band for your needs.

Global

It does exist a Global model for mi6?
A global ROM hast he band 20?
Not at this time. Perhaps in future but it's unlikely as they reveal MI6 for taiwan and it wasn't a global version.

Does the official global rom come with Google Play installed, or does it still need to be added?
Also, can you download and play movies from Google Play, or use the download feature on Netflix? Neither of those work on my Mi4C.
This is the only thing holding me back from ordering a Mi6. Really hoping that stuff works, since the Mi6 is not China-only like the Mi4C.
Enjoying it so far?
anyone know if this would work in the usa on gsm sais it supports band 4....http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Offi...-Mi-6-6GB-64GB-Smartphone---Black-379852.html

But does this actually matter if, for example, on EE in the UK you get 4g via other bands too... so would it actually make a difference?
Curious if anyone here has tried it on EE in the UK?

I believe EE doesn't use band 20, so it's golden.
I come from a Moto X 2014. I'm on three and I've had LTE coverage everywhere I went. Mind you, I'm in London and if I venture into the country I might not get LTE there, as band 20 is also used by three, possibly in less populated areas.

Hi, thanks... I hope so, I want to get one for my wife... This site says EE do use band 20, but not exclusively, so I don't know if it is a regional thing, different bands working in different areas or what. https://willmyphonework.net
