Wireless charger? - OnePlus 3T Accessories

After having a series of Nexus devices for many years, I was initially slightly disappointed that this device didn't have wireless charging as I loved it, as it gave me ability to simply throw the device on the table overnight and forget it.
I do appreciate how incredibly quick dash is... But old habits...
I bought one of these.. As it was so cheap...(£7)
Aventus (Qi Receiver) OnePlus 3T Ultra Thin QI Wireless Charger Adapter Receiver Card
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N9CZ7RB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6pFOyb7XR00NV
It's frightening thin and light and is hardly noticeable under my case.
Anyone else use these..?
Will they over heat the device?
As dash charging seems incredible in this sense.
Thoughts.....

If they're made well, they shouldn't really cause any problems. I used to use a Nexus 5 with a wireless charger, then later bought one of those receivers for a tablet so I could use the same charger. I find that even by wireless charging standards, these receivers are slower than normal.

I use a similar unit on my 3T and works like a charm. I couldn't go back to plugging in either after my Note 5.

I have one of those or at least a similar one and one thing I noticed was that it never went into deep sleep because it thought mtp was plugged in. So it stayed awake.
So watch your wake locks and if it seems your battery is draining that is why. Only resolution is to stop using it.

I've got one on my N6P, but mine's an older version with quite a big plug. The actual charging works fine. I was looking to get one with a slimmer plug but I'm worried about it breaking when I'm doing updates via cable.

Keep in mind that the Nexus 5 has a 2300 mAh battery and the 3T is a 3400 mAh battery (48% larger) and the max input doesn't change with devices so it might be "slower" in terms of %/minute but that might just because of battery size.

Wireless Charging Questions.

Been thinking of getting a Wireless Charger for my N5 but I have a very important question. Will they work through a case? I use a case on my phone and there is absolutely no value to a wireless charger if I am going to have to remove my case to use it. So I am wondering if you can place it atop the charge station while in a TPU or plastic case and still get a charge? I would also like to know how much slower Wireless Charging is than regular AC charging? Thank you.

Yes, wireless chargers work with a case. I've used the LG WCP-700 wireless charger with my Nexus 4 flawlessly with countless cases on the Nexus 4. I fully expect the results to be the same with the Nexus 5. Wireless chargers are very convenient and work great. Just make sure to get a reputable one and don't cheap out on a $20 eBay one.
i also heard that once ur phone is fully charged..the wireless charger will stop charging
I know the LG one stops charging when full. It also trickle charges so if your phone or tablet falls below a 95% charge it starts charging it again till full, then stops again.
All "Qi" standard chargers will work with the N5 with varying degrees of success. They all will generally charge up to a distance of ~3-4mm from coil to coil so they will usually charge thru cases with no problem although there may be a slight degradation in charge rate. I have used several different Qi chargers - the Google Orb, the Owlpad car charger, the LG WCP 300 and the Metrans MWT03. They all charged my N4 'case on' with no trouble although the N4 did seem to charge slightly quicker without the case on. I even mounted the Metrans inside of my desk just under the laminate surface and it charged the N4 fine thru the laminate and TPU case. The Orb was easily the best of lot and charged the fastest, the Owlpad was probably the worst but it was used while driving with the phone generally being used for GPS, music streaming etc and under those conditions, it barely could maintain charge with screen on. With the phone off, it charged fine.
I just got my N5 today and tried it with all of my chargers and they all worked fine, if anything the N5 is less picky than the N4 about placement.

Shouldn't have problems charging through a case

I bought the owlpad for my N4 and the N5 doesn't play well with my N4 Owlpad. The coils are not aligned and there is little wiggle room in the phone holder. Owlpad does make a N5 version (or a $29 conversion kit to make the N4 Owlpad into a N5 charger). Overall, I wouldn't recommend wireless charging for a car dock. Wireless chargers can't charge at the same rate as a cable and if you, like me, put heavy use on your phone while driving (GPS, bluetooth, music streaming, etc), the charger at best will barely maintain charge and often will lose charge. The beauty of wireless charging is being able to drop your phone at home or office and have it always 'topping off' without bothering to hook up a cable. If you put heavy use on your phone in the car, I recommend direct cable. For the home or office, I definitely recommend wireless. Since going wireless with my N4, my phone seems always fully charged when I leave home or work.

Yes, they will work though cases. I had a Diztronic on my N4 and it worked great. The charging is a bit slower but rapid charging isn't the point of the wireless chargers.
Has anyone tried the N5 on the WCP400 (the google Orb) yet? I will tonight but am curious (and impatient) while I'm here at work.
EDIT: someone has; here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513200

So we have the easy answer here ("yes wireless charging works with a case") but no careful studies on charge rates.
The OP also asked how wireless charging rates compare to wired charging.
I would also like to know if and how much using a case for wireless charging affects the charge rate? I use the Google charger (I would post a working link but the XDA site is being *****y about my lack of participation) ( .. play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_Wireless_Charger?id=nexus_wireless_charger ) which also includes a permanent magnet to help align the Nexus 5 to the charger. This is important because if the charging coils are not well aligned charging doesn't work at all and there is much less than a centimeter of margin. Using a case definitely weakens the alignment field because without a case the phone "snaps" to the correct position, whereas with a case you have to feel the alignment field and for the most part position the phone over the charger manually.
We know the distance between the phone and charger coils affects energy transfer (inverse square law for fields), but perhaps wireless chargers automatically adjust the strength of the charging field based on charging amperage or feedback from the phone to optimize charge rates? This would help mitigate the effect of a case but there would still be larger distances at which the field cannot optimally charge the phone. What are these distances, and do some chargers vary the charging field strength based on any kind of feedback?

LuguLake 6000mAh Qi

Just purchased 2 or these today. Getting ready for my new Nexus.. I charged these up and to see if they are working put a Iphone 5 on the charger. Neither one of these chargers will charge this phone. Says on the site and the booklet that they support Iphone 4 and 5. Any thoughts?
Found the answer.
Models that Require a Wireless Charging Case / Cover Adapter:
Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 use directly if the QI receiver built-in back-cover case of the phone, if not QI wireless receiver is required
Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300
Samsung Galaxy Note II
iPhone 4 4s 5
The 4 and 5 if I'm not mistaken does not have qi charging capabilities, I think you need the qi receiver case for the iPhone to work. It's for all the iPhone.
The device will only charge wireless if the phone supports wireless charging. The Nexus 5 will work out of the box, a Galaxy S4 you would need the special back cover they sell. It will not charge any iPhone wirelessly at all. Not unless you had a special back or piece that turns the iPhone into a wireless charge ability. It will charge an iPhone though using the usb cable, maybe thats what it means by charging an iPhone.
This charger is best of both worlds, you can keep it on your desk for wireless charging and take it on the go if you have a long day.

If the price were a little cheaper I would bite but I'm not sure it is worth the price? Someone who has the product want to convince me?
Too expensive for something made in china.
Typical external battery efficiency = 70%
Typical Qi efficiency = 70%
6000x0.7x0.7 = 2940
Expect the phone to charge less than 1.5 times if you use Qi for power.
You'd better use it as a normal external battery that can also be used as a wireless charging pad.

Since the efficiency is so low, if you want to use it as a backup battery, you'd better use a cord instead of using qi.
As a qi charging pad connected to AC, it's fine, though.
I just got this today;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Qi-Wireless-Charger-PAD-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Note2-S4-Receiver-10000mAh-Battery-/141047804367?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&var=&hash=item20d71ab1cf
basically the same, a qi charger with a built in battery, but with 2 outputs.
great idea to have this as a qi charging pad at home and on a long day can unplug it and have an external battery pack charged and ready to go!
only downside is there isn't a light to show its charging the phone via qi.
I love this charger, IMO it's the best. Here is my review on it, highly recommend it.
I've been using this for a couple of months with my N4 and N7-2013, and it works flawlessly, though I can't speak to 'true capacity' as I've never drained it fully to test # of full recharge cycles it provides.
There's a slightly smaller capacity unit also available (I can't post links yet, but search Amazon for "Qi 4800mAH") that may or may not be a better option, the benefit of that smaller unit being, well, size, in that it is more pocket friendly. Though if you would also use your Qi for a tablet, the slightly larger footprint of the 6000mAH unit might be preferable.
How fast does these Qi wireless charging charges the phone?
I got the LuguLake charger Wednesday, and I must say at first I was impressed, however shortly after I was very, very disappointed. The flaws I have found, at least with the unit I purchased:
Does not charge a 2nd device while plugged into AC power
As of yet, I have been unable to get it to charge the internal 6,000mAh battery since I depleted it once.
I'm going to keep toying with it over the weekend, but either I got a defective model or I'm doing something wrong. Also, anyone with one of these bother to "read" the guide / warnings? I just have to remember not to torture the battery, and to be weary if it ever becomes smelly!

This math is incomplete and may not work. You're ignoring voltages. At what voltage does the 6000mah come out at? Assuming the standard 5V that the USB output is at is usually the wrong assumption for these things - they're often 3.3V. If that's the case, you need to step up the voltage as well.

the 20-30% loss for standard power banks comes from exactly this in combination with any losses in the charging circuit of the phone.
I think the point is that you get crazy losses if you need to both change voltages, and do wireless charging from a limited power source.

Choetech Wireless Fast Charger

Got this to use with my Note 5 but have had success using it with the Nexus 7 as well. I have a video here
https://goo.gl/SHlM2Z
I have multiple wireless chargers. $3 cheapies, Samsung OEM, Spigen 3 coil wireless, and now this. This is by far the best one out of all of them. Just the fact that it has worked fast charging is great because you don't lose the charging speed that typically comes with wireless charging.
I tried this with a Note 5, S6, and a nexus 7. Worked well on all those devices with zero issues. The charger is heavier and feels sturdier than the other ones I have. I'm guessing whatever is inside to enable fast charging must be a pretty dense set of components.
Not sure if it's 3 coil but connects without issues every time. So far I haven't had an issue of having to mind it around to get it to connect. Tried with and without cases and haven't noticed a drop in charging time.
Definitely picking up a second one to leave at my office.
Hi,
does it mean that the fast charge is available with the Nexus 7 ?

Wireless Charging

Hi all, I'm considering getting this device, but want to have wireless charging.
has anyone purchased a 3rd party wireless charging receiver, and if so, what has been your experience? are you using a case?
thanks!
The Pixels do not natively support wireless charging. You will have to wait for a company to make a wireless charging case that adds this functionality.
For example, on the Pixel 1:

correct.
looking at the reviews on Amazon, many users are claiming that it works fine with the pixel 2.

100% agreed.
that's why I enjoy my droid turbo (built in wireless charging).
however, i MAY be fine with accepting this so long as the battery life is great as it has been claimed (able to go a full day in between charges), and I may ask for a pair of them google pixel ear buds for my birthday.
so the solution would be to get an extra wireless charging pad (less than $10) and get a pair of wireless earbuds.
but if the deal breaker for me would be the battery life. my current device as a 3900mAh battery and can go all day and then some. but, it is 2+ years old, and the battery is deteriorating, so it's not lasting as long. but if the Pixel 2 can deliver, then I may be fine with that.
Honestly battery life has been really good for me. I get 4+ hours of SoT which includes playing games and watching videos.

Oh, very cool, actually! I would also be worried about continuous unplug/replug for anyone using wired headphones or wanting to plug in for faster recharge. Let us know if you try it!
Lost wireless charging when I got the Nexux 5x. Never really missed it much. While somewhat convenient, it was slow to charge and many times when I needed a fast charge I just plugged in anyway.
So, Nexus 5X -> Pixel -> Pixel 2, same thing, I have chargers where I need them and charging is pretty quick. So, at the office, in my truck, by the recliner and in my home office I have fast chargers. I am covered. I also have a fast chargers in my backpack when I out an about.

understood that wireless charging is a preference and not a necessity.
as for me, it's more of a convenience factor as well as less wear/tear on the port (and battery life from my understanding). to have the ability to pick it up and go rather than pulling on a cord is a great help.
i did this with my wife's iPhone 7. and she really enjoys it (and it's difficult to get her to adopt to new technologies - hence why she has an iPhone).

I purchased the Spigen thin fit case and a Nillkin usb-c qi tag (short version). Have been using it for a few weeks and works with all my old Qi chargers used on my Nexus 6.
The case has a recessed area where the tag can sit without producing a bulge.
reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/7an3sm/pixel_2_wireless_charging_solution_nillkin_qi_tag/
To throw my 2 cents in. Used a USB Type-C wireless receiver with my OG Pixel XL and it worked fine, as soon as received my PXL2 I connected the adapter but it was unfortunately insufficient to provide a decent charge, even over night, many times having the same or less battery percentage left than before laying it on the Qi charger. I have since tried 2 different wireless receivers with the same result. I've gotta believe they can manufacturer one that will out put enough juice to power and charge the battery. If anyone comes across one, please let the community know. TIA.
I've purchased the Nillkin short receiver and it does not work.
I charged it overnight in a thin Spigen case and it discharged 5% overnight.
I tried charging using the receiver outside of the case and at best pulled 0.31A on a 1.5A rated qi base.
What about one of the "Magsafe" type USB C cables (https://www.amazon.co.uk/COCHING-Magnetic-Charging-Lightning-Adapters/dp/B073HC1DJB/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522506792&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+c+magnetic) if you're looking to reduce wear and tear? I assume you still get quick charge.
Looking at Nillkin's website, the tech specs on the USB-C "magic tag" give it a max output of 5V/1A. As we all know, Volts x Amps = charginess (or "Watts," for the electrical engineers). The power supply that comes with the Pixel 2 has an output of 5V/3A or 9V/2A.
So the phone's stock power supply charges at 15w or 18w. The Nillkin magic tag only feeds it 5w. At best, that's going to be a SLOOOOOOOOOW charge. The type 3 "fast charge edition" charger says it outputs more (10w). So the fast charger will send 10w to the magic tag, which will then feed 5w to your phone's battery.
Too bad. Seems like this could be a viable solution if there's a receiver that will output 10w. I mean, that still wouldn't charge as fast as the stock, wired power supply but at least it would probably charge. I'd love to have wireless charging with my new Pixel 2 but if the best it can do is 5 Watts, I'll live with the minor inconvenience of having to plug it in.
I thought wireless require all glass body which would be a no for me

I have the sandstone and carbonfiber-ish (aramid?) case plus a super thick silicone case and the charger works fine with all three.
That's so weird... Maybe I should return the base unit?
Edit - it seems to connect for a second, then when I rest it fully in the cradle it starts blinking red and doesn't charge.
NEVER MIND!!! I figured it out from this thread - https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/warp-30-wireless-charger-flashing-red.1228344/#post-21730493
I had stuck a metal plate on the back for attaching to my car mount. Apparently any metal on the back interferes with the charging. I took it off and now it works fine. Super face palm, thanks and sorry guys!
Am I the only person that thinks 50w wireless charging kinda defeats the whole point of wireless charging? For me, wireless charging is a hardware-sympathetic way to charge your battery slower without fatigue on the charging port, or to keep a phone topped off so you don't have to plug it in as often.
50w wireless charging is horribly inefficient because of wasted energy and will likely heat the phone's battery to a crisp. It would also charge way too fast to keep a phone in the 70%-90% sweet spot of charge while sitting at a desk.
I wish OnePlus would put out a 15w wireless charger, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Technically the OnePlus 9 Pro should work with 15w Qi chargers but I haven't seen any advertised as compatible so I'm wary (all I've seen claim to only charge LG phones at 15w).
Pro tip.. you can use the 30w wireless charger from the OnePlus 8 pro and get the same charging speeds! My OnePlus 9 pro charged from 0% to 100% in 43 minutes with the warp 30 wireless...

I can see how some people may view it at pointless but to me the idea of wireless charging is to drop wear and tear on the port. So whilst most of us do charge overnight where high speeds aren't needed. I also like to put on charge if I'm not doing anything for 10-15 minutes (grabbing shower, mowing grass etc) this ensures that I've zero issues with battery being dead later in the day.
Regarding other QI chargers, I also have this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Qi-Certified-Compatible-Fast-Charging-PowerWave/dp/B07DBXZZN3 on my desk which works just fine, haven't really taken note of the speeds it achieves but it certainly charges lol
I just received mine yesterday and it is AMAZING. If anything I could swear its even FASTER than the 65 watt charger that comes with the phone. Today I was going to top it off while I did my morning ablutions. I came back and It had gone from 58% to 100 in barely 20 mins, more like 15 mins. From what Ive read the phone battery stays cooler with this unit as well.

Pro tip.. you can use the 30w wireless charger from the OnePlus 8 pro and get the same charging speeds! My OnePlus 9 pro charged from 0% to 100% in 43 minutes with the warp 30 wireless...

Aw damn, I bought the new charger. But now I have a fast charger in my bedroom and living room. Funnily enough, the 30w charger refuses to charge any of my samsung phones while the new 50w does. It doesn't charge my daughter's iphone either. But I could care less about anything apple and just tell her to get a real phone all the time. Whoa, that went off topic quickly.

Not just the speed charging the 9 Pro, but the versatility at charging other devices as fast as they will allow as well. Same for the brick, charges my S21 Ultra at it's max speed also. Very nice this time around the chargers are useful for more than just OnePlus devices. (I wish it came in black also).
I own a Oneplus 8 Pro and today I ordered the oneplus 50w wireless charger. I wanted to know if my 30w warp charger adapter would be able to power this unit

Works fine with poetic guardian case
Works great with the Unicorn Beatle case as well.
Works with any case I've had, even the Damascus dbrand skinned Grip case
Mine is on the way... to me.
Now i charge with 8 Pro 30w wireless charger. Is stupid fast. I have 42% battery. I left the phone on charger for around 15 min. almost 100%.
The 50w one must be faster. With cooler too.
