Lip sync fix ( youtube etc ) - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

Give this a try .. worked for me
1. Enable developer options by going to Settings -> about phone , then tapping Build Number until it says developer options enabled.
2. In Settings go to Developer options, scroll down to Force GPU Rendering and enable it .
3. Reboot ( just to be safe )
Now try the app your having issues with and all being well it works

Hi, I'm considering getting the P2, and the sync issue has been the main reason stopping me so far, so thanks for this and I hope others will be able to chime in and say whether this fix worked for them, as it has for you.
One question: Does the sync issue only occur for streaming sites such as youtube, or does it also occur with videos from the SD card as well? Thanks

I tried the above. The YouTube app is still out of sync for me while the same movie is synced in chrome. I don't see this in the Netflix app though, to me, it seems to be in sync.
Weird is what it is...

I haven't made any changes to developer options. But the issue has gone altogether this morning. It's not a perception thing as the issue was so significant before.
It was only generally an issue for videos over 30fps. I would try disabling GPU rendering again and see if the issue stays 'fixed'. I suspect it is/will be sorted with YouTube app update.

BBC iplayer and UKtv seem to have improved , but RTE player now has sync issue and it didn't before .
YouTube is a strange one, i've tried videos of varying quality and there's no standard format it happens on . Lenovo are blaming the apps as usual , we wont get a straight answer from them that's for sure .

I remember a while back (years) html5 was replacing flash for YouTube videos, although I expect both still exist. Perhaps it is a video format issue rather than a quality issue. Chrome I expect loads as flash video by default not HTML 5. Can any techies confirm this hypothesis?

I may be wrong but i thought chrome did not support flash . you can install flash player but it wont work on chrome

Flash I believe is embedded in chrome, so you don't need to install any flash plugins

Flash isn't developed for Android and hasn't been for years. So there is no support for flash anywhere, unless you manage to install it. I suspect that isn't trivial since the last version was developed for probably gingerbread or a version around there somewhere.

Well that answers that then. The issue isn't related to html5 vs flash

The pc version of chrome has a cut down version of flash built in if memory serves me right .. I'm getting old , memory aint what it used to be

has the Lip sync issues been fixed on Lenovo P2 ?
(UK Three)

Not yet. In my experience it is variable. Some videos it's apparent, others it's less obvious.

I have the UK version of the Lenovo P2 from 3, running stock Android 6.0.1 .
I was halfway through watching a YouTube video(Clare Siobhan) on my P2 and stumbled onto this page on my PC trying to find a fix.
I paused the video, changed the setting then resumed the video(no reboot).
It fixed the audio sync issue!!!. :victory:
I then fully closed YouTube and watched a totally different YouTube video and all is good.
I see this has not worked for everyone but it has for me.
Thank you so much for posting this fix!!! :good:

I just got one from 3 UK. Never noticed the lip sync until now, but yes it's there for sure. I'm on MM still. Plan to try N when my sdcard arrives.
Force GPU for 2D works for me though!
If you want to disable Dev Options after (in case Force GPU didn't work for you), just clear data from 'Settings' app.

Worked fine for me too.

I've got a CN P780, CN Z2 Pro, ROW P1 Turbo and have just received the ROW P2. All seems well so far, came here to look for a root guide/ROM and saw the lip sync issue - all of the above Lenovo models do it on nearly all youtube videos for me. Other apps seem fine though.
Can't imagine the hardware and or software being wrong in all of these models but it seems equally strange that Google can't get it right either

I'm running S233 ROW on my P2 and it fixed the lip sync. Don't need this Dev Options tweak now.
Also mic issue in WhatsApp (3rd party apps in general) seems much improved.

[Q] Galaxy Note 8, 4.3 and Hulu problems?

(Sorry, title should say 4.4.2, not 4.3. Brain not working today)
I updated my Galaxy Note 8 (GT-N5100) when the Android 4.4.2 update became available. It seems Hulu+ broke in the process. It now has extremely choppy playback, regardless of high, med or low quality. CS at Hulu has tried just about everything on their end to fix it for me, but nothing is working.
Advertisements of course load and play without a hitch, but as soon as the program starts the framerate drops.
Has anyone else noticed this? What was your fix (if you found one)?

Another reason I am waiting for developers to catch up... most likely they are moving on to Lolipop or Tizan since the market will be needing support for newer OS structures.
You should be sending feedback to Hulu about this, as they keep track of things, or try facebook and rant.
Hulu problems
I also had HULU problems after installing CIVATO's 4.4.2 rom. Frame rate is very low. Changing the quality has no affect. No other video playback issues including Netflix.
I contacted HULU support but they don't support rooted devices. They suggested re-installing which did nothing.

I have Minmin Xposed blocking ads and still get great playback with both Hulu and Netflix. Though last December Hulu had a lot of buffering and choppy playback. As each update has gotten better and better, the latest one seems best over all.
You may try Second Screen 1.4.4... right now 1.4.5 does not play well with Samsung Touchwiz.
It forces 1080p at 30fps on any connection and the display of your device. You won't be able to use your launcher in landscape mode, as it moves the icons too far to get at all of them. But once you start the app you get full screen without any issues. I cant get 720p to work properly, but I don't need it anyway.

I am on 4.2.2 but it will override and push HD both on screen and through connected displays.

Adblock Plus shouldn't be a problem since it only hooks into the browser.
I'm using Adaware, which blocks ads by modifying the hosts file, and if I don't disable it Hulu+ dies when it gets to the ads.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, on 4.4.2 SecondScreen crashes the device stopping the com.android.systemui immediately on reboot (I think that was the process I saw). I, therefore, had to uninstall it.
I've pm'd Civato who may be able to shed some light on this issue. I believe that I had Hulu working fine under his 4.2.2 rom.

Update: I installed civato's 1.9 rom (released 8-4 with kernel 5.4) and tested Hulu again. I still have very low frame rates that make it unusable. In addition, a new "sputtering" motion is affecting all apps during scrolling. Someone suggested installing the old kernel 5.1 which I shall try since clear all caches did not help.
Still hoping to hear from civato on this.

I just tried Hulu+ again on my N5110 and it works fine with FlexNote 1.9 without pauses or stuttering as long as I disable AdAway.
It might be a problem with your router or ISP (some are known to degrade service level for streaming sites) but I doubt that there's anything civato can do about it. Have you tried it with WiFi at another location that has a strong signal and high speed Internet connection?

Hmmm. I don't have AdAway installed. No issues with router or ISP - Hulu streams fine on my Mac and using Chromecast on the same broadband network. I'll keep searching for a solution. It's not significant enough for me to go back to 4.2.2.
Incidentally, the sputtered (i.e. jerky) scrolling of FlexNote 1.9 that I was experiencing is improved and smoother after re-installing civato's SphereKat 5.1 kernel. While better it is still not as smooth as I remember with FN 1.8 or the 4.2.2 ROM.
Thanks ramjet73!

Hmmm...
It sounds like you might want to try a clean flash of 1.9 if you haven't done that already. I believe the wipe option for that is "prepare for new ROM" in Philz Touch and "factory reset" in TWRP.

Took your advice, ramjet. Over the weekend I did a clean install of 1.9. Unfortunately nothing made Hulu play better. Their commercials do seem to work fine though.
I did come to a definitive conclusion about the visual sputtering that some other users also mentioned in the developer's forum. After going back and forth several times between civato's 5.1 kernel and his FlexNote's built-in 5.4 kernel, I have verified that the sputtering was indeed introduced with the kernel update. It is most visible when I slowly drag a widget back-and-forth across the screen. Some users may less attuned to it because, frankly, it is rather subtle but it is there. So I am staying with 5.1 for the time being.
Thanks.

There's a new version of Hulu+ in the Play Store today (2.15.0.201802). Maybe that will work better for you.
Also, @civato has released 2.0 of the FlexNote ROM with a new kernel.

Hey, ramjet. Just want to document my latest findings here in case anyone else (or the OP) has these issues. I upgraded to the FlexNote 2.0 ROM and the latest Hulu app. The result was no change for Hulu playback and the OS sputtering returned. I downgraded the kernel to civato's 5.1 and the sputtering went away for the most part.
Last week I decided to do a little more experimentation. I installed two AOSP derived ROMs, first Dirty Unicorns then CM, both of which are based on Android 4.4.4. Dirty Unicorns was the more feature filled but was missing some things that I needed.
The results were a little surprising to me. The responsiveness of the OS greatly improved from the standard ROM - everything is faster, even without overclocking. The sputtering is completely absent. Some apps still observe much scrolling stutters such as the NYTimes app but this seems to be app related rather than attributable to the OS. In fact, the typical stutters I have always observed are almost entirely gone - everything is smoother.
Oh yeah, Hulu works perfectly now. I can only conclude that 4.4.2 ultimately caused the Hulu problem.
Summary: I will remain on CM for the time being. Overall it is a more pleasant experience. I do miss a few Samsung derived apps such as S-note and MultiWindow, but not terribly so. There are S-note alternatives. I always used an alternative launcher anyway. If I had a larger tablet the MW feature would be more important but it is not so much with the Note 8. Besides I have always found MW to be rather flaky - apps I added to the available list somehow always disappeared. The last time I used it it sent the device into a boot loop which started this latest quest for a better tablet experience.

Issues with VR

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but anyways, I'd thought I'd give it a shot here. I bought a VR headset. However, on some apps, like Google Cardboard, I'm unable to rotate side to side (yaw). I am still able to rotate the other two directions. This issue also happens when I used VR Player, but it is fixed when I go to its in-app settings and change the orientation provider to Gyroscope (calibrated). In some other apps and sites, like https://vr.chromeexperiments.com/ , it works perfectly. Is there a way to fix this. Any help would be appreciated. Using and HTC One m8 and CM14.1.

Super V7.01_20170123 Android N ROM - SPFT + OTA release

Its finally here! The first final release for Nougat 7.0
For now its through SPFT. If you want the OTA you'll have to wait until next month.
http://community.umidigi.com/thread-6292-1-1.html
Enjoy!
OTA "is working" for me...
I have to download .zip file from UMI DIGI site copy to SD card and use "Local update" in phone update menu. No personal data will be removed.
Hi i am using version from october 20161017.
Must i first upgrade to 20161721 and then upgrade via SPFT to Nougat?
No need for that. Flash it from your current rom.

Because this is the first official version of Nougat the optimisation for Wakelocks isn't the best. Also when you upgrade to a totally new Android version you need a at least 3 charge cycles where you go from 100% to 5% before you charge your device up to 100% again. One thing I've done due to the poor Wakelock management is using greenify, it works even better if you have a rooted device.

The dark camera issue has somewhat been resolved in third party apps. I noticed a bug that still persist using the selfie camera on snapchat, taking photos looks fine but if you try video recording the screen goes very dark like the previous dark camera issue.
If the poor camera was just down to software don't you think Umi would've fixed it already? I mean i had this phone since July 2016 and not much has changed. I never got this device for the camera though but for the reasonable hardware for a very cheap price.

Try Open camera app on play store. It stopped twitching of the picture. But it was dark. If it's not great!
Im not an expert but i think the problem is that they take the camera module from i.e. Samsung Galaxy s6 and some new processor from MediaTek and can't make them fully compatible...or something like that...
i am asking here because in the umi forums no one seems to be interested in responding to questions.

I have bad news for you. THe Mtkquicksearchbox doesn't work on Nougat 7. Before switching over i saved the APK and when i tried to install it after i upgraded from N6 to N7 the app just won't install.
I believe it has to do with something on the writing permissions on the system. Even after rooting my phone and giving rw permission in es file explorer it wouldn't work.
I prefer the mtk quicksearch over google and hope this might come back in a later software upgrade by Umi but i highly doubt they will put it back in future releases of N7, i could be wrong though.

thank you for this answer, i suspected something like this.
Sim Card Not Detected
I updated my Android Umi Super through the local method.
But now my simcards cannot be detected.
I have tried re-booting...cold boots, Airplane Mode On Off
Simcard removal... Another Local Install
Etc.
What Should I do.
Updated to the latest firmware, now I'm getting constant soft reboots...
Tried through local OTA and the soft reboots started. Redownloaded and managed to get it to flash through local OTA again in between soft reboots, no change. Full factory reset, no change.
Tried updating through SPTool, still getting the same soft reboots every minute or so.
Any ideas out there?
Pls so I shouldn't download the v7.01...... Again if there will be problem right.
Microphone not working well after update
Since my upgrade to android 7 on my UMI super I have found a few bugs:
1.) Banking app is not working any more
2.) When I do a video chat with my friends they can't hear me at all and mostly hear white noise. This is the same on skype, messenger, watsapp calling etc. This was not present in android 6. I have reset my phone and still both problems exist Anyway to revert back to android 6?
Have they fixed the crap/no gps lock issues??? Or is that just a pipe dream???

Large image files not appearing. Moderately urgent.

My OnePlus 5T doesn't show large image files on browsers. I checked on a different phone and it all worked fine. I tried Chrome and Firefox Focus and got no luck. I tried reboot, reinstalling the apps, deleting cache but nothing worked. I did some testing and I think an image of some particular number of pixels and above doesn't appear.
The largest image I got that shows up is 3649*4543, 16,577,407. The smallest image that doesn't is 3923*4656, 18,265,448.
(I thought I would add links but since I'm a new user, I am not allowed to include links, I don't think giving partial links to bypass this policy is justifiable, so...)
Edit8: Now I can post with URLs.
For the former: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/53/Farida_Arriany,_c._1960_(signed).jpg
For the latter: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8f/United_States_Declaration_of_Independence.jpg
And when I try the latter, I get this.
http://imgur.com/X2k6doV
The firmware version: OxygenOS 5.1.7
Just to be sure: It is not that loading isn't completed.
Edit6: To be clear, the 3923*4656 file is not corrupted or anything. It works perfectly fine on my previous phones and a friend's phone. Also, Snehasish1994 confirmed me that it works fine. I mainly use the 3923*4656 file because it's public domain.
Edit10: I've been mistaking snehasish1994 for snesish1994. I apologize.
This is really strange. Strongly hope someone can help me out.
Edit1: Maybe this issue is limited to JPEG files. A bigger PNG file of the resolution of 4300*5500 appeared on a different website. It complicates the issue further. I can't even think of any cause.
Edit2: I tried "Download link" on the latter 3923*4656 file. I was able to download and see it on Google Photo. However, I couldn't see it when I tapped "Open" upon the completion of download and opened the file in, I guess, Chrome, all I saw were blackness and a small square at the centre.
Edit3: I found that I cannot upload the bigger 3923*4656 file on Twitter. Twitter responds "Some of your media failed to load" right after I finished selecting it for uploading. I think it meets the file requirements of Twitter. And what's more maddening is that the 4300*5500 PNG file I mentioned earlier could be uploaded despite not meeting the requirements. I think this has confirmed my suspicion that something, be it Chrome or some system service or whatever, is refusing to load or process and render large image files (most likely limited to JPEG files) for apparently no reason. I am inclined to believe that this is purely software related issue.
Edit4: And now on Imgur I was able to upload the 3923*4656 JPEG file. This is insane. I really, really hope someone of knowledge will help me out.
Edit5: I tried uploading the 3923*4656 JPEG file again. On Tumblr it was successful, both from Chrome and the Tumblr app. On Pixiv it was a failure from Chrome. On Imgur, as I tested earlier, it was successful when I chose "Upload from Device" but it seems to have failed when I chose "Paste Web URLs" from Chrome. I didn't try the Imgur app.
Edit7: Since reboot and reinstall don't work, I suspect that it is not easily fixable via usual settings and such. Maybe clean flash?... I don't know.
From the fact that on Tumblr and Imgur I can upload the 3923*4656 JPEG file, I suspect that the process that is required on some sites during attaching large image files is not properly working. And this process may also be related to image rendering.
Edit9: It seems that those images are actually loaded into Chrome, or browsers but they just don't get displayed.
I think this is the case because:
1. I was able to download the image on (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8f/United_States_Declaration_of_Independence.jpg) via Option > the download button on Chrome.
2. I downloaded a whole page (https://shakespearedocumented.folger.edu/file/details/151) as an mhtml file, again via Option > the download button on Chrome. When I view it on my OnePlus 5T the image didn't appear expectedly but when I view the same file on a PC offline running Windows 10, the image was displayed. So it is clear that the image is actually contained in that mhtml file, thus I think it is safe to say that the image is actually loaded into Chrome. But it does not show up somehow.
Can you message me the link so I can check that for you?

The firmware version: OxygenOS 5.1.7
Just to be sure: It is not that loading isn't completed.
This is really strange. Strongly hope someone can help me out.

Yes, I thought that too. But I leave them off for the whole time. I just double checked the setting it was off. Besides I do not have that option on Firefox Focus. Just to make sure, I understand that there is no data saving option on OnePlus 5T itself. Am I right? The battery saving is obviously off.
Snehasish1994, PM'd you. Thanks.
Is it possible that my OnePlus 5T is defective, even though everything else seems to be fine? I got it only few days ago.

Are you on stable or open beta??
May be you should try by switching channel or just wait until New Android version is released :good:

I'm on stable. I don't have a good memory but as far as I can remember, I got mine with Android 7.1.1 installed. Then I got OTA twice, now the OxygenOS version is 5.1.7. Android security patch level says 1 October 2018. When I was downloading the latest OTA update the internet connection went down. I don't remember exactly how it happened though. Could this have caused this weird problem?
What does it mean to switch channel? Does it involve difficult-for-layman operations?

In your case I mean trying official open beta you can find how to switch to open beta here if you are interested https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/how-to/soon-oxygenos-beta-1-android-o-oneplus-t3726074 do it at your own risk although there's very little chance things going wrong

I got this from expansys. So I'm not really sure if I can get warranty from OnePlus itself. Expansys stated that flashing ROM will void their warranty. Having said that, I will ask if I can get warranty from OnePlus.
Follow-up.
I am still trying to solve this issue within the current state. But I am now suspecting the issue could only be solved, if it's even solvable, via likes of complete factory reset, clean flash and such. So I started contacting the shop and OnePlus trying to confirm details about warranty and also asking for tech support, now waiting for their responses.
People are still very cooperative, but as of now no one has figured out what the cause may be.
I will be updating as things progress.
I just found that picture-in-picture doesn't function in addition. My understanding is that if you activate this feature by accepting apps to use it via Settings > Apps > Special access > Picture-in-picture > (any app) > Allow picture-in-picture and no additional tweak required, it will do just that. I know that outside of NA, YouTube doesn't do it unless you are a YouTube premium member. I checked this on Chrome and Tumblr.
At this point I'm almost convinced that there are a few more issues I haven't encountered yet and these issues, though looking like they are unrelated, may have arisen from one cause.
I haven't received any response after the last post so I'm not going rush to clean flash and see if these problems can be fixed but it's so tempting to say the least.
I hope that some people still read this thread.
Edit: Oops. Picture in picture does work. I was too nervous, it seems. But the original problem persists so the situation is no better than before.
After checking details about warranty coverage with OnePlus and Expansys, I tried hard factory reset and ROM flash. And sadly, both didn't work.
Snehasish1994 suggested that I try remote debugging, which seems quite overwhelming for me but I will see what I can do.
But well, I am considering return or replacement at this point really. Because, what else can I do? It may not seem like a deal breaker but I use large JPG files quite often, like really often.
I've been mistaking the guy's name snehasish1994 for snesish1994. I apologize.
Update
Yes, the problem persists, still.
I went to a local repair shop. I told them about the symptom and what I confirmed thus far. They were unable to solve the issue. And they said that it is safe not to open the back and inspect the internal to keep the warranty intact. I got no new information there except that they think the problem is too complex to be hardware related, which is a relief at least.
Snehasish1994 is still helping me solve it. Thank you, snehasish. Now, he inquired me if I tried Firefox and actually I hadn't at that point, except for Firefox Focus. I tried Firefox and to my surprise it works as it should!
But then, I am still unsure as to whether the issue on Chrome and Firefox Focus, which are my go-to browsers, can be fixed. I use Firefox Focus much less than Chrome so I am okay even if the issue on Firefox Focus won't be fixed but I can't accept it on Chrome both because I use it most often and it is now the only proprietary web browsing app provided by Google.
Oh, and in the first post in this thread, I said, at Edit9, that the image seems to be loaded into Chrome. This was confirmed via DevTools. Again, snehasish suggested me that I use it. So if I can tell Chrome (and hopefully Firefox Focus as well) to render large JPG files, I should be good to go.
That's all I got since the last post, I think.
Finally, having tried every possible solution only to find the issue was still there, I went for a replacement. I will be receiving it in the next few days or so. Hopefully there will be no problem.
I think anything beyond this point will all be irrelevant to the topic of this thread so this would be my last post on this thread.
It was really annoying to deal with the issue, but I am grateful to find people on xda are helpful. Snehasish in particular has helped me a lot.
That last post would have been the final post. If the replacement didn't have the same problem...
It got delivered a few hours ago. The first thing I checked was of course that nasty issue. It was depressing to see the same issue but I thought "well, it can't be a faulty device or a one-off bug then".
With the clues I listed on this thread, I was testing again. I was thinking about why on earth Firefox can display those images while Firefox Focus can't. And I discovered that the two browsers use different browser engines: The former uses Mozilla's in-house Gecko engine whereas the latter uses Google's Webview engine, which Chrome uses too. But fortunately, Mozilla is trying to implement Gecko on Firefox Focus lately and there's the Nightly version, which has Gecko. I immediately tried it. Boom, the images in question appeared. I'm just a layman so I know nothing about technical details, but I believe that the problem is somehow related to Google's Webview engine.
It may be beyond my capability to dig any deeper but this had me interested.
Anyway, life is tough.
Another followup.
I updated the firmware to the latest OOS 9.0.1. And the problems I have discussed are gone for good it seems. I can now view large images without any problem. After all it turned out I didn't have to replace the previous device then.
Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my 5t now. I hope no one else is facing this issue but if anyone is, hope this thread helps.

Spotify freezes tapping 3 dots menu

When playing a song in Spotify and tapping on the 3 dots in the upper right corner, the screen dims a little bit and Spotify freezes. No probs like this with Mi Mix 2s and Redmi Note 4. Erased app data, uninstalled, re-installed - no changes.
Any ideas?
Same problem for me
Same here. Seems like this problem has been around for a while.

Thanks! That's now for almost 2 months and they do nothing - great! I love the superb support within a premium account...
Any ideas/workarounds how to add a song to a playlist?

I have installed the Spotify desktop app on Windows 10 and I am doing all the management from there!
By the way, I have the Chinese rom (for now). Does it happen on the global rom also?

Just to let you know. I signed up for a Spotify Beta account, hoping the bug is fixed in the beta - but no...same problem
Hello,
Theres a workaround, tap the song/album you want, then go to the playlist and select "add song", then swipe right until you get the recently played pannel and add song/album to playlist....
MalG
Confirm I had the same problem with my unit, that is until I returned it due to the touchscreen issue mentioned in another thread.
Same issue, already posted on Spotify's forums and they didn't even acknowledged it.
Lots of people complaining yet the can't or refuse to do something about it...
Damn, just got the phone yesterday and I am having the same issue and was hoping someone may have found a solution. I wonder if it's to do with the new processor in this phone? I saw someone in a Spotify support forum (not an R8NPro user) saying they turned on OpenGL Rendering (although not sure how or where?) and that fixed it for them. Spotify presents one of my main use cases for the phone so this sucks. Anyone tried using an older version of the app?
On a related note (no pun intended!), I have always rooted my phones just so I could use Viper4Audio to eek out a better sound. I am using Bluetooth as my primary connection. Has anyone done any side by sides in terms of audio quality? If I don;t have to root then I won't as I think I read of some possible issues at present with this phone?
Thanks for any help!
Just got a new system update on my RN8Pro. Has anyone tried the current version of Spotify after this update to see if it works? I am using a very old version of the app which is working (albeit less featured) so am loathe to have to download all my playlists again to try it
Works for me now with MIUI 11. But I'm also using Spotify Beta and there was an update too. So I'm not sure why it's working again. Please try out folks
Works fine for me. Miui 11 and latest Spotify stable release.
Same problem for me
Miui 11 update fix many issues, like the Spotify bug !
