ROMs + Recovery + Root - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Is the A3, A5, A7 series bad for dev of ROMs and new mods on sites like this? I saw someone that wrote something about that. They mentioned it was due to the Exynos chipsets. Could have been the 2015 or 2016-series also.

No, it is misunderstanding in the early days it was like that but times changes.
Look at the s7 exynos full of dev support.
It is a new phone, give it time.
It is always like that.
Samsung release even the open source files maby it is not complete but u could port cm 13 or lineage os by yourself to the device and get things working.
Or build a kernel etc.
Twrp same it can get official but we get someone who is mainly focus on dev twrp for our devices.
I dont have much time and i will focus mainly on the stock os.

I have galaxy SM -A500f
Is thr any working custom recoveries available ??

No.
This is really sad but the a52017's community hasn't many developers... this is the only reason I think of changing my phone with a s7
Ok that sucks, the A5 is a really good phone and I'm on contract so nothing I can do. It's a shame as even lineage OS isn't comparable so I'm left with ****ty ROM's like Revolution OS

3.10 Kernel

Hello guys i found this thread about 3.10 kernel for msm8974 devices :silly:
since it's the same hardware SOC why not porting it to our klte :fingers-crossed: also if we managed to we could have treble also and a lots of new improvements what you think ???:highfive:

would be nice if you posted the source of the kernel , for a kernel dev to take a look at what device it came from and if the hardware are the same , 2nd there are several variants of the msm8974 SOC family . for example the 1+1 is a msm8974 the Note 3 is a 8974 but if you flash either kernel on the s5 thats a insta-brick.
Now that could help us out is if the device you found went from let say kernel version 3.4.xx to 3.10 with kernel patches/updates that right there could be possible for the s5 and that is not even a sure thing . at best its a possibility but sadly the way i see it S5 won't ever get treble. best if you saved some money and on the budget side grab a brand new Mi A1 or Mi A2 , easily unlock bootloader and treble the device up with the twrp recovery ( A1 ) not sure about A2 ( saving up for that as we speak ) and then just flash away any gsi roms you like the support's the a/b style partitions .

Hello. I started merging Linux 3.5 into our device's kernel source from 3.4.0. I managed to resolve some conflicts and only mm and kernel subsystems are left. It's still a long way though, it won't build right away

J2 Pro (2018) Oreo or Theme Support workaround.

Hello. I bought this phone since my Galaxy Note 4 SIM slot is destroyed. Is a pretty decent phone and it run good for all the things I use on it. But the only thing I am wondering is, If this phone will have Oreo Update? On some pages like GSMArena is mentioned that is planned an Android 8.0 update, but date is not given. So I wanna know if some others variants besides J250M (the one I have) has the update available.
And my other question is, is there a way to enable themes with/without root? Thanks to everyone who came and give me an answer though.
Same problem
Please help us get themes on this phone.. been trying to get since last year

The only reported information was in the Samsung Members of India, that Android Oreo would be rolled in January 2019 for SM-J250F.
In Samsung Members of Brazil, nothing was said of SM-J250M.
And also nothing is known about SM-J250G and SM-J250N.
It's quite possible that it stays on Android Nougat.

Without root, you can install Samsung Themes, but you can not install Theme Manager.
That is, it will not work.
With root, no tutorial has yet appeared.
Tutorials for the Galaxy J2 2015 and Galaxy J2 2016 (which supported themes but not the theme store) are not valid for it.

Being that you're a member since 2017, I would have hoped you would know that these types of questions/requests do NOT get posted in development sections.
Also, if you think it's so easy to build custom ROMs, especially for locked down devices like Samsung, please try to build one yourself. Instead of using xda like it's a specialty store for making your phone cool, please remember that this is a site made by developers for developers. Please do not make demands like you are a paying customer here. All development provided on xda is done so free of charge. No one here owes you anything. Do some reading, learn some skills, and build a custom ROM for your device and post a thread here. Then maybe you'll understand why a demanding, entitled post like yours is truly seen as disrespectful to the community.

Hi, I updated my Tab S T-800 with Resurrection Remix based on 14.1 and it works really great.
Tried LOS15.1 too, but wasn't stable.

Guys, I have Samsung Galaxy TAB S (SM T805) if I update it to a newer version will it be faster?
Or if I root the tablet?

Newer firmware doesn't necessarily make the device faster. There isn't much you can do about a 9 yr old device.
Since the T800/T805 are not Treble compliant, the only way to run newer firmware is via custom ROMs, although I doubt development on devices this old gets much attention.
So what I understand is there is not much to do with the tablet to make it a little bit faster.
What about root or that is a different matter?
And last question about
LineageOS 18.1 for Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (SM-T805 - chagalllte )

Root is a different matter. In most cases, you can flash the Magisk app through TWRP, and Magisk will automatically detect the right way to root your device. If TWRP is not available, you'll need to patch the AP firmware file in Magisk, then flash to your device with Odin.

Would you be able to suggest which old tablets could make sense to flash semi-current roms onto? I tried to bring back some old device to reuse for home assistant display, but it's too old... Been thinking about these samsungs, but from this thread it's also a bit too old.

I don't have any suggestions, sorry. I have a Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (T290) at home that I'm running an AOSP GSI on, but those were released in 2018.

imho it's correct that a custom ROM doesn't necessarily make old devices faster, but I experienced it such that at least they don't get slower (except I9195).
Recently I was allowed to support development of Android 19=LOS 20 for my T325 and it runs like hell.
P600 and P900 on LOS14, T810 on LOS19 all using daily in different rooms.
I9195 on LOS18 (that is really laggy) N910F on LOS18 as backup devices.
