J2 Pro (2018) Oreo or Theme Support workaround. - Samsung Galaxy J2 Questions & Answers

Hello. I bought this phone since my Galaxy Note 4 SIM slot is destroyed. Is a pretty decent phone and it run good for all the things I use on it. But the only thing I am wondering is, If this phone will have Oreo Update? On some pages like GSMArena is mentioned that is planned an Android 8.0 update, but date is not given. So I wanna know if some others variants besides J250M (the one I have) has the update available.
And my other question is, is there a way to enable themes with/without root? Thanks to everyone who came and give me an answer though.

Same problem
Please help us get themes on this phone.. been trying to get since last year

The only reported information was in the Samsung Members of India, that Android Oreo would be rolled in January 2019 for SM-J250F.
In Samsung Members of Brazil, nothing was said of SM-J250M.
And also nothing is known about SM-J250G and SM-J250N.
It's quite possible that it stays on Android Nougat.

Without root, you can install Samsung Themes, but you can not install Theme Manager.
That is, it will not work.
With root, no tutorial has yet appeared.
Tutorials for the Galaxy J2 2015 and Galaxy J2 2016 (which supported themes but not the theme store) are not valid for it.

ROMs + Recovery + Root

Is the A3, A5, A7 series bad for dev of ROMs and new mods on sites like this? I saw someone that wrote something about that. They mentioned it was due to the Exynos chipsets. Could have been the 2015 or 2016-series also.
No, it is misunderstanding in the early days it was like that but times changes.
Look at the s7 exynos full of dev support.
It is a new phone, give it time.
It is always like that.
Samsung release even the open source files maby it is not complete but u could port cm 13 or lineage os by yourself to the device and get things working.
Or build a kernel etc.
Twrp same it can get official but we get someone who is mainly focus on dev twrp for our devices.
I dont have much time and i will focus mainly on the stock os.

Total Noob Question

I looked at all of the forum posts and don't see anything specific to this...
My teenage son wants to get the Note 5 Pro through the Xaomi Aliexpress store. It would be used in the US on AT&T. Ali's buyer notes states things like "China ROM doesn't come with Google Play Store" and "Box will be opened and ROM will be installed that won't support OTA updates". Is owning this phone going to be more manual patching and maintenance than it's worth? He's a smart kid and loves messing around to get things to work, but I want a phone to just work for him and no risk of having a brick.
Just looking for what it will take to have a stable phone that he will enjoy if he has me order it for him.
Thanks!

There are 2 variants one is Indian variant rn5pro and another rn5 China with minor difference.
The chances of bricking is super low. Below 1%
Just install gapps or flash EU rom from Xiaomi.eu when it releases. Its super easy to update/flash diff ROM.

Do those ROMs support automatic updates, or will he have to manually apply a new ROM for updates?
Thanks!

the soc snapdragon 636 can have the feature of 1080p recording at a frame rate of 120fps, so can we able to record this on redmi note 5 pro using any third party app by rooting?

Some roms support ota and some don't. Also devs recommend clean flash for updating. But the thing is that should change with Android 8+ since treble is here which allows for better OTA updates without firmware dependencies being altered. The RN5P (Indian variant) most probably supports treble and thus the devs will be more than happy to incorporate it for more stable and easy updates, specially through OTA. Hope this helps.

[NEWS][+DOWN.LINK] Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) Oreo update rolling out in Russia

According to Sammmobile.com , Samsung has finally released the Galaxy A8 (2018) Oreo update, bringing an end to months of waiting for owners of the company’s latest premium mid-range phones. The Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are currently being updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in Russia. The rollout seems to have started over the weekend, and since it’s already mentioned on Samsung’s official website that details software updates, it should be available for most (if not all) users in Russia at this point.
Samsung’s official changelog suggests it’s an update similar to the one received by devices released before the Galaxy S9. Oddly, Dolby Atmos support isn’t mentioned, despite the devices’ user manual saying it’s included. That could possibly be because the A8 and A8+ only get Dolby Atmos for use over wired and Bluetooth audio, similar to devices like the Galaxy J6 and the Galaxy A6. The update also brings support for VoLTE on both SIM slots, which was recently made available for the Galaxy S9 as well. It’s unclear what security patch is included, but since the May security patch has already been out for these devices, it’s possible Oreo bundles the June patch. The July 2018 security patch is included in the update. The build numbers are A530FXXU2BRG1 and A730FXXU2BRG1.
Our What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo series of articles is the best way to get details on some of the major new features and changes that Oreo brings to Samsung devices (and this official Samsung infographic is also something you should take a look at). To see if Oreo is available for your Galaxy A8 (2018) or A8+ (2018), open the Settings app on your device, tap Software update, then tap Download updates manually. The update is likely to take a few days to start rolling out in other markets; it could also be a few weeks, depending on how quickly Samsung expands the rollout.
The Russian Firmware is avaliable on Sammobile.com on the link below :
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-a8-plus/SM-A730F/SER/download/A730FXXU2BRG1/224366/
My question is ... will this firmware work on non Russian devices ?
It will.

Android Pie update in Europe

Hi,
I read different information regarding the Pie update of European models. I heard that that it is cancelled in US except of Verizon. But how does it look like with unlocked EU phones? Will we get the update or not? Does anybody know.
The promise to get Pie update was one of the reasons why I bought the phone. Now I feel tricked if we won't get it (and I assume it is the case).
I could get an unofficial update but then I'll loose Google Pay, my bank applications will not work anymore etc. Unlocking the bootloader is not an option for me.
But unlocking bootloader is the only one option for ATT users.

Hi, I updated my Tab S T-800 with Resurrection Remix based on 14.1 and it works really great.
Tried LOS15.1 too, but wasn't stable.

Guys, I have Samsung Galaxy TAB S (SM T805) if I update it to a newer version will it be faster?
Or if I root the tablet?

Newer firmware doesn't necessarily make the device faster. There isn't much you can do about a 9 yr old device.
Since the T800/T805 are not Treble compliant, the only way to run newer firmware is via custom ROMs, although I doubt development on devices this old gets much attention.
So what I understand is there is not much to do with the tablet to make it a little bit faster.
What about root or that is a different matter?

Root is a different matter. In most cases, you can flash the Magisk app through TWRP, and Magisk will automatically detect the right way to root your device. If TWRP is not available, you'll need to patch the AP firmware file in Magisk, then flash to your device with Odin.

Would you be able to suggest which old tablets could make sense to flash semi-current roms onto? I tried to bring back some old device to reuse for home assistant display, but it's too old... Been thinking about these samsungs, but from this thread it's also a bit too old.

I don't have any suggestions, sorry. I have a Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (T290) at home that I'm running an AOSP GSI on, but those were released in 2018.

imho it's correct that a custom ROM doesn't necessarily make old devices faster, but I experienced it such that at least they don't get slower (except I9195).
Recently I was allowed to support development of Android 19=LOS 20 for my T325 and it runs like hell.
P600 and P900 on LOS14, T810 on LOS19 all using daily in different rooms.
I9195 on LOS18 (that is really laggy) N910F on LOS18 as backup devices.
