We can make this feature complete device-tree and then there's countless ROMs we could all enjoy.
I will need your help to do that. Any issues please log and please post below.
Okay while I work on compiling and starting from scratch I know many of you are impatient and I'm keen to show there is people looking to develop for this device since everything around here has been so quiet.
Since this is mostly feature complete anyone wanting to test can do so
Support is a little limited, at this stage I'm very interested in hearing about any bugs but at the moment I can't be rushing to fix them while this isn't feature complete.

Mi Note 2 Specific Modifications (inc. Camera support)

Now I'm assuming you have an unlocked bootloader, have made backups of your apps with something like TitaniumBackup, made a full TWRP backup and your keeping a copy off device (copied to your desktop or made the backup to a USB stick)so you're ready to go.
Guide for Installation
1. Download gapps (I used nano but any arm64 7.1 is fine)
2. Boot into TWRP
3. Format system and userdata (your "sdcard" will be fine, folders like download are fine - Only installed apps are erased)
4. lineage-14.1-20170403-UNOFFICIAL-scorpio.zip
5. Flash scorpio.zip
6. Flash gapps
6.5 (Optional - Recommended) Flash Magisk
7. Reboot to system
Updating from an earlier build?
There's no requirement to format userdata. System wipe is still recommended. Any dirty flash will remove Magisk and gapps.
If after installing update you find that fingerprint reader is not working follow these instructions
Boot to TWRP and backup everything - Copy the backup to PC or make the backup to USB)
Install MIUI dev 7.3.30 - I used fastboot method but zip method may work (if you use zip method and it works please post and let me know)
Boot into MIUI and sign into your Mi account.
Reflash TWRP
Restore Userdata from your TWRP backup.
Once completed continue the installation as normal
Flash lineage, scorpio.zip, openGapps and Magisk as above
When you return to Lineage all settings and apps should be intact.
Why Magisk
If during setup you add a fingerprint/password/passcode/pattern then you will enable full drive encryption.
My TWRP builds have no problem with this and if you've been using a passcode on MIUI you're probably already encrypted. If you wish to avoid this encryption but still have a passcode/fingerprint registered - install the latest version of Magisk.
While built-in root works perfectly well, for those wishing to avoid encryption Magisk will do just that.

Gyroscope is reversed (disable auto-rotation in settings)
Screen brightness adjustment scale is wrong (set delicately or auto-brightness is working correctly)

That sounds like a TWRP error. Make sure you're using any of the Mi Note 2 (Scorpio) TWRP, I know others are somewhat compatible but they will throw errors like this.
The most recent is here.
As a side note flashing miui 7.3.30 prior to updating to the latest build is somewhat recommended anyway, particularly if you encounter any issues with fingerprint. I don't fully understand why, but it's part of the reason fingerprint support took as a long as it did.

After flashing this new updated ROM, only the brightness cannot be adjusted and the brightness is too over and makes my eyes feel uncomfortable.
Another one, the reaction of fingerprint touch is not so sensitive. For example, I need to double or triple touch to wake screen up !
Overall to say, this ROM is ready to use daily !
I hope all developers keep working on it and fix the remaining bugs.

Brightness can be adjusted but only the first few mm are useful for manual adjustment. Automatic brightness is working as it should.
There are third party apps you can try for more control over screen brightness (more than ever will be implemented in LOS) such as Twilight, and Pixel Filter. Both can be found in the Play Store.
Touching the fingerprint reader won't wake the phone usually, it does require pushing the button, at the moment this is by design because of other issues, but may be changed in the future.

No Second Space yet. I looked into it a little bit just to see what that might involve, and there are at least 3 separate apk files for that feature, and I have no idea if frameworks needs additional code to support it. Maybe kinda complicated to implement.

Most stable custom rom for this mobile. Tried LOS , RR ,PA but this is the best. Few tiny bugs that don't bother you at all.

The best rom to do that i think is RR , but with Crazy kernel installed and the firmware in the author's post.

I have tried almost all roms on XDA for Mi Note 2 and in my poor opinion this porting of Tesla rom is great. No real life bugs, double tap to wake working, good volumes and it's very fast with excellent battery life installing Psychedelic kernel. The included camera app it's not the best but installing Camera Nx V7.2 with HDR+ or Miui camera MOD 1.5 pictures are definetly good.

I've never put my phone in the freezer and all animations are on: what is really importartant for me in this rom is double tap to wake working, it lacks in all the new portings. Let's hope that someone manage to make it work in the Oreo roms.

This is an old rom that required an old firmware to work. Try newer 7.1's like SlimRom. You will 100% enjoy it more
Thanks for you recommendation, but the solution is not install another rom, because Tesla N Rom is perfect for my and it's the only rom 7.1.2 AOSP that incluyes double tap screen for wake up (like Miui). For this reason, i would,t resolve the problem with de headphones.

As you people might know recently OnePlus released Open Beta 23/11 for the 5/5t which enabled the support for project treble on those devices. This ment that oxygen os finally had native support for treble for A only devices. What this means in a nutshell that this rom brings the newer ui and features from it and has made porting cross platform roms a lot simpler.

What is this?
It's oxygen os port for zuk z2. This is the latest Oreo version of oxygen os rom available. This port brings all the software feature oxygen os except for those required hardware such as nfc, etc.

oxygen os beta 11 review
so, everything basic is working. :good:
no problem in phone calls, data connectivity,
a lot more better in heat and battery management when compared to the older test builds
volte working
double tap to wake is working
three finger gesture working
navigation gestures working
some bugs (including the bugs stated in the op)
1. wi-fi problems as stated
2. stock camera as stated (gcam works perfectly)
3. brightness bug hasn't been solved yet, even after flashing the provided patch .. (lowest point will turn off the display)
4. screen wake up time is a little slow. (makes us think that fingerprint is slower, but its not)
5. as stated , face unlock registers the face but doesn't unlocks
6. the custom dpi settings in the display menu doesn't work properly (either its too big, or its very small, the mid point doesnt change anything at all)
7. the screen off gestures and fingerprint gestures aren't working
8. night mode and reading modes doesn't work
9. google contacts sync has some problems. doesn't seem to sync completely
10. the hot spot fails for the first time, but then after works fine
apart from these, im not gonna comment on battery life, smoothness and heat isues of the rom as it still is in alpha
but im happy to say that the dev made a significant improvement, because the battery life and smoothness are very much better than the test builds
as for the heat issue , the cooling solution like suncooling will work for the most of the part
these are just listing out what works and what not, and is no way an offence to the dev and his efforts, thanks @devabhi for the excellent port,
overall, pretty solid build for an alpha

The very first step will be to attempt a new download and CLEAN FLASH (WIPE DALVIK/ART CACHE, SYSTEM, DATA, AND CACHE).

you need to update TWRP to 3.2.3 or 3.3.1.

I updated to 3.3.1 in the process of trying to get the rom to install. I'll give your build of TWRP a try at some point.

Footej Camera works perfectly for me. But tbh i didn't test any other camera apps. so if u found any better camera app u can share it here to the rest of users.

Didn't test it. it may or may not work. u can test it and share the experience.
backup your data & apps just in case, using Migrate app, and do a clean fresh flash if it didn't work.

Ok so dirty flash was a huge fail for me so did a clean flash and EVERYTHING works great in fact it feels like a brand new phone.. DAMN it's great again... Having used LineageOS 14 and being hugely disappointed by it this rom is a MASSIVE BREATH OF FRESH AIR.. And has actually made my RN2 USEFUL again.... Thank you for your excellent hardwork...

Just friggin loving this rom.... only issue I have had is occassionly it disconnects from WIFI and then take a long time to reconnect... other than that all works great.

possible second issue
if I add or change unlock pin code... RN2 just locks up... have to pull battery out, once rebooted code has been changed and can unlock phone fine after that... seems too be the initial action of adding or changing it that causes issue.

my sim cards don't seem to work on this rom. i've had this issue before in RR 5.8.5 and the only way to fix it is just to reboot my phone and voila, it's fixed, but in this rom it can't even read my sim cards at all

sim 1 is working as of right now. i just had to wait for it to work though the signal cluster icons don't show that it does. sim 2 is still not working
i have successfully installed both magisk and xposed. they both work like a charm thus far. i'll let you know if there's anything going on

A couple questions...
1) I currently have Linageos 16 installed, do I need to wipe /data?
2) can I install just the MIUI firmware without reflashing MIUI?
3) does the carrier detect tethering? The carrier does not detect tethering in my current install.
4) If i'm connected to a VPN will the VPN connection get passed through to tethered devices?
Yes, I would advise you to clean install as I am not sure where you got that old build. By doing so, you can flash the latest MIUI firmware while at it.
As for the remaining questions I have no answer. Try and report.

when i try to download i keep getting an error from goolge drive saying the file has been moved to trash and cant be downloaded.
Regarding to Q, you can try this procedure:
1. Flash MIUI global 11.0.5.0.Q using TWRP
2. Reboot into TWRP
3. Flash LOS and optional gapps using TWRP, wipe cache but not data
If you don't have Q correctly installed, you'll see an error message telling you a Q-based MIUI is required. If you don't see it, you should be good.

how is this rom compare with pixel experience or havoc? any idea?
I have installed this ROM. So far most things seem to be working good. I did have a problem with some gapps crashing so I went through and uninstalled then reinstalled them and they are working good. The only other issue I've had is trying to add a fingerprint for unlocking, I get a message that says the fingerprint reader is dirty. I was finally able to add a fingerprint after very carefully moving my finger around a lot.
I didn't have this problem, but there's an issue with fingerprint sensor position if you choose to hide the notch. I had no problem save my fingerprint, through a screen protector I put on 2 years ago.

Yes, that's a known issue. But I am sure you can live with it for now, just don't hide the notch.
I simply wanted to mention that to eremeya if he she happened to change notch before trying to store fingerprint.
One issue that came up is the settings app will crash when trying to do certain things. So far whenever I try to look at wifi networks or change carrier settings, or when I try to clear the cache or delete data from an individual app settings crashes.

Not sure about NFC as I haven't had a chance to test yet but fingerprint is mostly working fine. If it gives you an error and says the reader is dirty just keep trying with different positions and you should eventually get it.

Only if you have a problem with sim signal.
I was watching crDroid PIE v5 videos and looks so juicy... a lot of stuffs of personalization, i was missing in lineage 16 beta the nav bar... i had to get it from build.prop.
I'm so tempted to flash this new work... thx @ibilux
when I connect the phone to charger or to a computer, the phone suddenly restarted... help
when installing the rom, it's look so well done. but when I installing the kernel, the installation didn't finish yet, twrp suddenly restart (I used twrp given by you above), the twrp always restart after I adding another zip files, either it the kernel, the modem, even openGAP too... please help. and the other thing about keep restarting, it happen when:
connecting phone to computer/charging
open 3rd party file manager (mi file manager/reading a big data files)

I FIXED my problem by installing the rom first then restart and do some android set-up. then restart the phone to recovery mode and then install other zip files (kernel, modem, etc.) and it's work.
BUT what happen now is the app (like google play store) is freeze easily.
Well, i've flashed this ROM, my advice is flash addonSU of last, cuz i was getting a sudden restart if flashed that after the ROM. In the beginning the ROM was a lil slow, but now is running fine
Some bugs on personalization:
- the blur effect on the theme section is buggy
- the smartbar transparency and custom icon scaling is not working
Pro:
- The personalization layer got a lot of good stuffs to test and try, i love the smartbar functions
- Good tiles options in the notification bar
Cons:
- My wifi connection drops are very hard with this... with lineage 16 and the custom kernel still exists this problem, although it was easily solvable, but in crDroid is so often that these drops happen, and sometimes a reboot is mandatory to solve it.
I will try this rom a bit more before I make the decision to change it, but the problem with wireless connectivity is getting serious for me.

it will be so buggy... dont try it. look in the forum for custom ROM's for your device...

Does this ROM have some advantages over the previous one (LineageOS 16.0 for Xiaomi Redmi Note 2)?
I have been using LOS16 for a few months now, it's OK, but sometimes (not often) it freezes, and slows down.
So I don't want to change to this ROM necessarily...only if recommended.

open gapps. and also what I found here
youtube apps gave a same problem as LOS16 that you made before. but it became a bit better when you play the video (youtube) from web browser. video player is working fine here.

I don't use 'heavy' apps at all, and I didn't experience heat. As I wrote, there were just a few freezing (however I had to take out the battery to be able to get out from the freezing at all), and I can't really describe a specific program when it froze (maybe browsing in Chrome..)
Anyway, so far so good. Maybe I will give a shot to this rom..what can I lose?

Personally i think that chrome is becoming very heavy to this "oldie" devices... im browsing in crDroid with Opera Mini, and works pretty well, i recommend this change, but i think that the adblocker from opera is a lil buggy... but still is my choise
