Upgrade to Official VZW Nougat using Software Upgrade Assistant! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussi

Hi all, I was messing with the Verizon software Upgrade Assistant and managed to upgrade my SM-G930V from 6.0.1 to 7.0. Here are my steps so feel free to give it a try yourself.
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if the install fails and your phone is bricked blah blah blah. I also cannot guarantee this will work for everyone.
Let's get started!
1. Plug in Galaxy to computer
2. Pull down notifications and tap USB Charging
3. Select Software installation
4. Find Verizon Mobile in My computer or This PC (It will look like a CD Drive)
5. Run the VZW Software Upgrade Assistant
6. Follow the installation steps on screen
7. Run the upgrade assistant. It will check for an update and download it for you.
8. Change the phone to File Transfer mode the same way as above from the notification menu
9. Click Upgrade! The update files will be sent and your phone will reboot into download mode.
10. Wait as it will take a while. Your phone will reboot to Recovery and install the update now.
11. After another reboot, you will see "Upgrading Android" as it optimizes your apps. This can take a while based on how many you have.
12. You may get a prompt saying some apps must be upgraded. Just follow the onscreen options.
13. You're done! Enjoy android 7.0!
Hope this helped you get the update! Feel free to ask questions. I'm more than happy to help to the best of my abilities. I'm no expert, however.

this is what i had to do on mine......it kept giving me error 402 when I tried to wifi OTA

Thanks OP! The SW update on the S7 Edge I just bought kept stating it was up to date, but it was running Android 6.0. Your steps def solved that issue! One tip was that the VZW SW got hung up forever trying to run some type of update, but the real "VZW Software Upgrade Assistant" that I need to run was hidden down in the systray. I ran that one and all was smooth... didn't even need to open ODIN. lol!

Unlocked?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 factory reset questions...

I had to send my rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to Samsung for repair. I did a factory reset of my device and just received it back. My device was rooted stock prior to me doing the factory reset. It has been a year since I rooted this device, and I would like to know if someone could point me in the right direction for restoring root of my device. Thanks so much in advance.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/root-cf-autoroot-twrp-t800-t3079488
Thanks I have re-rooted my device.
Factory reset doesn't remove root anyway, so the device was still rooted when you sent it back.
Thanks everyone
Now that I am rooted again, I keep getting a popup about what I believe is a firmware update. I know if I install it I will more than likely lose root. Is it possible for me to get this update and retain root? If so, how can this be accomplished?
Thanks so much in advance.

When I first read the OP I took it as they sent him a replacement or something. After reading it again, I see he got the same one back. So, yea, it was still rooted anyway.

My personal opinion is to just do the update and then reroot. To me; it's just a cleaner method and I prefer cleanliness when it comes to updating, rooting, and such.

Agreed, it's a triviality to re-root.
The update won't install anyway with root already installed.
Yea, forgot about updates not working when rooted. Just use Kies or Smart Switch to update and return to stock.
Sent from my SM-T700 using Tapatalk
I see that it is recommended to use Kies or Smart Switch. I have Kies on my windows computer, and it did tell me that there is an update available for my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The update is ~ 1.6GB, while on the tablet itself it says the update is ~ 400MB. That's a huge difference in size. Any reasons why?
Also, it tells me the update can fail if the device is rooted- in which case my device is indeed rooted. Should I be concerned? Or should I use some other application to update the firmware on my device?
Thanks in advance.

The difference in size, I imagine, probably has to do with OTA updates only adding in the differences between the current version and the update version. I know Kies and Smart Switch completely overwrites EVERYTHING and does a 100% fresh install of every single file in the software. Make sense?
No need to worry about the OTA update failing during install since you can't do OTA updates when rooted. I recommend getting rid of Kies and installing Smart Switch. Smart Switch is faster and easier on your PC resources than Kies.

I've downloaded/installed Smart Switch. Right now it is backing up my device. Just to make certain I am understanding things correctly, I run the update using Smart Switch, and then after it finishes, providing it finishes successfully, I would then proceed to re-root my device again using the method from the other thread?
Thx

Ok, I am starting the process now. Here goes nothing... it's telling me, "Downloading files for the Galaxy Tab S software update... Please do not unplug the cable connected to the PC".
I will post updates here as it continues. Right now the download is at 10%.

It has finished downloading and my tablet has rebooted to what appears to be download mode. On the screen of the tablet it says, "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!"
On my computer screen it appears that the computer is installing drivers. Also I just got a popup on my computer screen as well that says, "Failed to recognize software update mode...." - I think this is because my computer is trying to install the 2nd driver.

Yea, drivers being reinstalled might cause an issue. It may not finish doing the update. But; no worries. There's an emergency recovery process that will fix it. Give it a chance to finish on its own though.

I had already started the process again. I did get tablet out of download mode per the screen instructions. The update failed and would not continue. So now its telling me, "Downloading files for the GALAXY Tab S software update... Please do not unplug the cable connected to the PC."
So now it is downloading again, and is at 85%.

At least it should be fine now that the drivers are installed.
It has moved forward this time, and is saying, "Software update for GALAXY Tab S is in progress... Please do not unplug the cable connected to the PC."
Tablet is in download mode and no complaints about drivers.
Smart Switch is now saying, "Software update for GALAXY Tab S is complete. The device will now restart. Disconnect and reconnect the cable."
So, I have disconnected and reconnected the USB cable. The device is booting up, and on the screen of the device, it is saying "Android is upgrading... Optimizing app ___ of 225."

Ok ... So after a painful experience with the upgrade assistant [that force resets your phone btw], i've managed to get my phone to reboot having applied some kind of relevant package from the alcatel servers. At this stage it may just be stock. I imagine that the servers pull the same data as the OTAS but i'll finish typing this up when "android is starting" completes... [omgz there's multiple stages]
RIGHTO! There is a restore feature toward the end of Google's first boot fiasco :good: (restores any apps that you had installed)
OKAY. This works. build no. .1002 which is the build number i was offered in the corrupted update.zip today.
[CANT POST URL AS IM A NEW USER] but google "alcatel software upgrade"
Navigate the list, find your model. If "connecting to your mobile phone" persists {when running the software}, then just press vol+ and power quickly together once and wait for the installer to detect it. (may need to be done a couple times).
Lemme know how you get on.
WTF
In settings phone says is model 5010D but in recovery says is 5010X
On build
I'm on build 01001
You have to remove SD card and go to storage and click SD card forget! otherwhise it will say you don't have enough storage as the device is looking for your SD card. It has to convert to looking to internal memory. After doing this the update process will be fine.

Samsung note 10+ 5g not booting after firmware update

Hi,
I have applied firware update for years without problems but today I am stumped.
I tried to update todate from 6ETLL firmware to the newer 6FUBD both Android 11.
Set up Odin using 3.14.4 and started ok.
Then I had the install stopping and disconnecing to the phone.
Eventually I disconnected the phone lead and it now wont boot passed the error message -
An error has occurred while updating the device software.
Use the Emmergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software.
So I installed this on my pc it it fails to recognise the phone even in Emmergency recovery mode.
I have tried all methods of trying to reboot the phone but it always comes back to the above arror message and wont go into recover mode or download mode.
I did not but this from O2 but directly from Samsund and its just out of warrantee.
I dont know wheer the service center is in the Uk and thats a lst resort anyway.
Any suggestions please.
Repaste from my other reply on the UI3 update :
"
Odin hates thunderbolt - If you plan on using a USB-C port make sure it's not thunderbolt. It will fail half way in and freeze. Get a well rated cable and do it via USB concentrator directly
If you get stuck and you cannot access recovery via key combo or smartswitch emergency recovery use Odin
Open options and select get device info - It will reboot directly to the recovery if it was previously written (check the log). After that disable the get device info option and reconnect the cable (select files for flashing again - should go smoothly.
If after the reboot and setup you get a moisture warning on the USB port - this does not make nay sense but it works - Turn off the Note, plug in a usb cable on the PC and reboot the phone connected to the cable - It will reset the sensor warning and should work flawlessly.
Hope to have helped - Had a bit of a jarring adventure setting this one up this time.
The lag in the animation is there, however, I think it's the animation timer that is set higher (slower) it's not slow "per se" but it shows. "
Bomm,
I must say.... I dont know how to thank you. Your post saved my Note 10.
I emailed Samsung repair and after 2 days they said phone xxxxx if you need it repaired under warrantee.
I waited a week for the phone to lose its battery and when booted back on charge cane up with the same error.
So I went back on xda and you had kindly posted the exact fix I needed. I didn't expect that. I know now if I have the same issue again. It was my pc I think using usb-c to usb-c like you said. Thank you so much.
I didn't get any warnings at all. booted up fine.

had the same issue. I was stumped at first too
I've tried all the posts but when I say start in odin, the phone restarts and gives an error
As you say you are super, my friend, I applied it step by step, the phone entered the download mode.
Not sure why you want Q or above on the 10+.
I'm still running on Pie/One UI. Fast, very stable and zero issues. Last reload was back in June.
If the OS is running well and fulfilling its mission let sleeping dogs lie.
One issue is if we don't keep up to date then at some point Samsung will stop support on a particular phone and the phone can be years out if date.
They may then be on a version unsupported by the apps suppliers and will be more difficult to sell if you want to buy a new phone.

No problem here. All my PCs, their XPx64/W7 OSs as well as my Androids Kitkat/Pie OSs are now unsupported.
No issues and all continue to fulfill their missions.
Forced learning curves waste my time and offer little in return. My last learning curves were from Kitkat to Pie and XPx64 to W7.
I stopped updating with the best versions of both MS and Android. I don't rat's arse if it stays like that for the next 10 years... or if my Windows machines mutate into Pie or Linux machines
Whatever works best for me.
It's not just the bugs that won't get fixed it's the vulnerabilities as well, then the apps stop working. I actually enjoy upgrading my kit and amon Windows 10 21h1. Anti virus packages mat stop working as well.

I've never had a malware or virus issue that required a factory reset in over 7 years of using Android. More than half of the time was using out of date OS's. My current Pie OS is over a year out of date.
99% of rootkits, viruses etc are uploaded by the user. There's no protecting the stupid.
I have redundant complete backups so a factory reset will cost me normally 2 hours and at worst case 6-8 hours if I need to restore the SD card.
You waste far more time then this fighting with the bugs, the learning curve and the forced factory reset that a major firmware update requires.
I get to use the OS of my choice... you get whatever they throw at you and the ride that comes with it.

Question Fold 3 does not start

Hi, I have a fold 3, which turned off during normal use and never turned on again, when turned on it remains stuck on the "samsung galaxy logo".
In recovery I tried the update via sd by downloading the firmware from samfw, but it gives error
E: libfs_mgr error updating for slotselect
E: libfs_mgr failed to mount sdcard.
Connecting it to the PC detects that it connects but does not recognize it and does not work, drivers and adb installed.
Install the latest version of the software
The phone was pin / fingerprint locked
It hasn't been formatted, does anyone have any advice on how to do this? At least to recover the data.

If under warranty send to Samsung.
Sounds like a hardware failure.
If so mucking with the firmware may brick it.

thanks for the information, however, that software is not detected, I managed to get it read by adb and odin, through odin I tried to install the latest version of the software, it doesn't give errors but then it doesn't start when I restart.
Through adb it stays on the verifyng update package and doesn't install.

So in my opinion you are exhaust possibilities rescue in home and unfortunetly need send device to service.
In over a decade of using Androids (all Samsung) I've never seen a firmware failure. Occasionally the user data partition got skewed almost always by a 3rd party app. On a stock flagship Samsung the chances of firmware corruption is almost zero unless there's an outright hardware failure...
The N10+ in my hand load is over 2.5 yo, last update was 3 years ago. Still fast and stable with minimal maintenance. That's what a stock Android is (or should be) capable of... if you don't update it.

Yes, I can confirm too that with example Note 5, Note 9 and now fold 2 older software (max next only one big update to newer version android) is the most stable and battery friendly. Newer version maybe looking "newer" have few intersting function but for daily use usually are little more lags, lottery with battery life. Especially my old Note 5 with android 6 which had when I bught running very nice and now, even after clean install last stock software in this case android 7 Note 5 have a lot of lags and running like the cheapest android device. This my one of a lot example like newer software isn't always better.

Did you tried to make complete wipe from the recovery menu? I know you care about your data but at this point Samsung won't help you and they will probably try to wipe the device first.
In the end not being able to recover it from recovery, I sent it under warranty and they replaced the motherboard.

Question Can't use OTA update or Smart Switch - fail at 25%

Hi! I got a Samsung Galaxy A52s 5g that i bought from a store as second hand. They give a 14 days waranty but I don't really have the time to send the phone to service.
My problem is this... The phone right now has android 12 one ui 4.0 with Android security patch level from march 1, 2022. I want to upgrade it to android 13, but everytime I try thru OTA it fails at 25% and comes back to original saying Failed to install update, contact a samsung service center. Or something similar.
I found on the web that updating thru Samsung Smart Switch should work, but for me it doesn't. It downloads 7.3 gb of updates, after that phone enters download mode and I get after some time a NOTICE on the computer that "failed to recognize software update mode" and instructs me to reboot device and try again. I even enabled USB debug mode and I get the same NOTICE on the computer. And after that I reboot phone from downloading mode and everything is back to original.
The phone was charged 50%+ everytime i tried, also I got enough rom memory, I checked. Changed usb cable to another USB on the laptop and I get the same result from Smart Switch.
Phone model is SM-A528B/DS. I will provide more info if needed.
What I can do to succesfully update the software on my A52s 5g? I searched on the web to no result to my Smart Switch error. Also I've seen that are alot of cases where thru OTA the phone fails at 25%, but either they succesfully updated thru Smart Switch or no response.
I want to try installing the official rom from sammobile but I really don't know what firmware I should pick.
Thank you in advance!

Does it matter from what carrier did the phone come from? The baseband is different from the file that you posted. Or doesn't matter? Anyway, downloaded it, now i'm looking for a tutorial on how to flash the rom. Thanks!

I just flashed the rom you provided. Hurray! It works just fine with odin. If anybody got the same problem with their phone, flashing with odin does a great job!
