My bootloader is still locked and I've never had root on this phone got it too late to unlock. I'd like to root and if I can get a custom recovery and flash a rom. Can anyone help?

Right now, there is no way to root or unlock the bootloader in your situation. It sucks, but it's where we are.
Don't hold your breath for an exploit, either. Motorola/Verizon closed all known holes for BL-unlocking in the penultimate Jellybean OTA, and the only root method that worked in the last JB no longer works here.
Enough with the KK unlock and root threads.
I'm going to start reporting people that make these threads without doing some homework first.

If there is an exploit available, trust me, you'll know about it.

We can say this in every thread where they ask about root. We put warnings out prior to the OTA. Heck, we could probably put a sticky thread in this section about there being no root on KK, yet people will still ask. Why? Because they refuse to take 5 minutes to read through the other 37 KK related threads.

I of course can't speak for anyone else, but I knew the risks well before taking the update, and updated anyway.
I knew it was the very un-XDA thing to do, but frustration with the short battery life and UI lag on my phone was nearing a breaking point.
I tried to make the most of it; hence the "list of changes" thread, which hopefully has scared away locked users who are still n JB.
Any luck with a rootkeeper/root survival of any kind?

My story is somewhat different. I tried to find a way to get rooted KK on my phone (trying to play junior hacker again), ended up soft-bricking my phone to where the only way to fix it was to flash stock KK using RSDLite (did try RSD'ing JB first, but my bootloader was having none of that).
So now I'm hopelessly stuck with a completely stock phone without root.
I feel like the only way to get past this is to attack it politically, like if every single Verizon XDA user banded together and flooded Verizon corporate inboxes with legitimate reasons why we need unlocked bootloaders.
Or maybe if someone is good friends with a politician who is more left of center and concerned about consumer rights over corporations. Maybe convince them that it's better for the environment because potentially millions of phones could be saved from going into landfills if we mandate companies must allow bootloader to be unlocked when certain conditions are fulfilled, like if a phone reaches 1-year of age.

I new I was losing root with it as well. I liked the features that KK brought with the update and still did it. The update finally got me using Smart Actions and I'm getting pretty decent battery life, nothing mind blowing, but pretty good. Buying a portable battery pack has pretty much solved the problem I had with nonroot. Now I can go about 2 days as long as I carry it around, lol. Luckily it's small.

Flash a custom recovery via fastboot, and then flash SuperSU zip in recovery.

I attempted it myself and got errors just like some other people. Only difference is they still had root and I don't. I suggest following the thread and seeing if it does someday work for us or somebody could attempt it themselves. I'm currently on windows 8.1 so that could be a problem.

^^^He doesn't need an exploit since he has an unlocked BL. Also, this has been checked on the M and HD family of devices, it WILL NOT work because the the current KK updates have already patched the hole that this exploit is meant to take advantage of.

And what about aka test points? Many Motorola models had such special test points using which you could get unlock of BL. How about our XT907? Any ideas about test points or shortcircuit of contacts?

Towel Root only allows the root access that Motopocalypse needs. The old trust zone was accidentally (or purposely) put back into this OTA, that's what Motopocalyse exploits.

I just managed to get this device from someone the other day. Having been an iphone 5c user for a while, going to a 5c after my last frustrating and horrible android experience with an HTC inspire device, I am back on android for the storage expansion so that I can play emulator games- only to find myself pulling my hair out ONCE AGAIN after all the numerous conflicting advice/ threads/tutorials out here which I have countless wasted hours on already. I don't have time to read through tutorials promising a downgrade from lollipop to kit kat, in hopes of a root so I can pair my ps3 controller wirelessly to my device... constantly stuck on odin failing and what have you, so just give it to me dry and clean. Please help as this is extremely frustrating and annoying.
Can I or can I not root this device? if so How? ( please provide detailed instructions as i don't know what the lingo is around here) If not i'm putting this thing right back on craigslist where I got it from. I am running 5.0.1

Have not read enough, if you have a Verizon locked bootloader... Recommend to put it right away to Craigslist because no root has been found good luck
If you can deal with root on a temp basis, meaning it is lost every reboot, then go that route. Otherwise as EdrickMg stated, it is not available.
How do I know whether the bootloader is locked or not? I might want to buy an N910V, as its much cheaper than international/Indian version, but I need to make sure whether or not the bootloader is unlocked. Cause I can't even think about not rooting a phone in first one hour of purchase. What could I ask the seller to confirm about the bootloader?
If it's a Verizon Note 4, then the bootloader is locked. There is no permanent rooting method for this phone. People are still hopeful that there might be one coming, but I'm willing to bet that there'll never be a method to root it. This phone has been out since October of 2014, with no root method found. There is a temporary root method that will allow you to root your phone, but the next time you reboot, it's gone and your phone is re-locked. To me, that's a lot of effort for something that you lose whenever you reboot your phone, but that's just my opinion. Also, this temporary root is just root - it doesn't unlock your bootloader.
If you absolutely must have a rootable phone with unlocked bootloader, then look elsewhere.
The only thing that we do have is debloater, which is a method that allows us to turn off and block almost anything we want. For me, that's enough, because the only reason I'd want root is to uninstall all of the crap that comes with this phone. It doesn't get rid of the junk, it just turns it off and keeps it from running.
If you want root to be able to install an ad blocker or to install custom kernels and/or ROMs, you cannot do it on this phone and likely (in my opinion), never will be able to.
Okay, I don't understand all these contract things as we don't have them in our country, but Verizon Note 4 and N910V, they are different? If not, how come there is a custom ROM and kernel for the SM-N910V model? The phone does show a red screen where Verizon is written on it. I am not understanding this!

There is a Verizon Note 4 Developers Edition that comes with an unlocked bootloader and it is rootable. I had to buy it straight from Samsung at full retail price. Totally worth it in my opinion. It is no longer available for sale on the Samsung site though

So your bootloader is unlocked already, correct? You need to have an unlocked bootloader and be running Lollipop, here's the thread that shows you how/what to do...

Thanks bud I'll try it tonight! I gone like 6 pages into Google trying to find something that works I got a little confused on the baseband version part. This is a silly question but if I have mine on
N910VVRU2CPF3 and use Odin and flash version: N910VVRU1ANJ5 it won't brick my device? And no my bootloader is not unlocked yet

You'll want to flash the N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVZW2BPA1_N910VVRU2BPA1_HOME.tar .md5 file in ODIN as that is the firmware that Lollipop expects/works on. I don't know what android version N910VVRU1ANJ5 firmware is for. Flashing N910VVRU1ANJ5 shouldn't brick your phone but you will need to have it on N910VVRU2BPA1 to install Lollipop and root.
Trust me, just follow the instructions in the post I previously linked. It's all laid out for you in what is pretty much the easiest way you can do it. As long as you do it in the order listed, with the files provided, it will work.

Rooting this phone is pretty tricky and you may have to repeat the process a few times for it to work. Follow the guide custom_roms_epeptic posted, that's the one I used and even though it took me a couple hours to go from stock to Nseven, it did indeed work. I would recommend using the version of kingoroot found in the zip contained in that guide, I tried kingroot and the newest version of kingoroot and both got hung up at 90% or just didn't work at all.

Part of the steps you will be doing will be to unlock the bootloader, this is mandatory. If your CID starts with 15, you can change the CID of your device to that of a dev edition device, which can then have its bootloader unlocked. Like I said before, it's all laid out for you in the other thread.

Hey guys i preordered my s9 and was super excited because my s8 was not able to be rooted due to knox and so was looking forward to trying out some xposed mods and roms..unfortunately ive yet to see anything on how to root the sm-G960U1 variant? Seems odd because its the u.s unlocked which i thought would be more common than carrier locked ones in xda community
The odds are nearly zero. Unless there's an engineering firmware that leaks out. The Snapdragon is locked up tight.

Well the thread clearly states for g960u1 which is the US model so and your answering with twrp and custom ROMs so if this thread is for g960u1 I'd like to know how you helped him install twrp and or custom rom.

You must be stuck in 2012. It's not so simple anymore. Bootloader lock means it's locked regardless of twrp or SuperSU.
Did you truthfully use this method to flash my twrp to your locked bootloader device that is an s9 or s9+?
I'm gonna need some real proof before I believe that from a guy that just created his account 2 days ago and calls himself an Android app developer without a link to his github or gitlab.
I have very serious doubts about your so called method. If it really works as you claim them proof shouldn't be an issue at all to present to everyone.

So your saying you've managed to do what every developer has been trying to do since the s6 maybe further. The u u1 and w devices are fully bootloader locked. There is no flashing twrp. No safe strap you are completely full of crap and Im sure I can speak for many people on xda not wanting your mis information thrown about. You would be a millionaire if you did what you claim as in bypassing a 256 bit encryption signed device.
You need to just quit before some one without knowledge attempts what you claim and bricks their device. It isn't fair to the community that you don't know what your doing making false claims on obviously a device you most definitely do not own. I have all my devices listed in my profile. Why don't you?

Okay guys apparently I'm too much of the little guy to post this in the dev part. However, I did a search and came accross an eng bootloader or what claims to be for the galaxy s10+. I'm not sure as to the legitimacy of this file, but figured it was worth putting out there. I helped or tried to help when the S8 came out as well. Anyway once I get it uploaded somewhere, I will post the file.

First of all, I bet you $20 right now it's not, it's just the same combination boot file that comes in every single combination rom.
Second of all, even if it is and I am wrong, it won't help as you won't be able to boot it. Samsung phones require special certificates to allow them to boot eng firmware, and those certificates essentially oem unlock the device anyway. I know this because I have an s8+ that happens to possess one. But before you ask, the certificates are tied cryptographically to the imei and did numbers of the device they are issued for, so finding one for another device won't help you
As has been stated ad nauseum, the USA Samsung devices aren't rootable anymore. People who want rooted Samsungs should purchase the exynos (SM-G975F/D), or international snapdragon (SM-G9750) models
While the above may be true, I was merely trying to help and by no means am I a developer. I, however do not believe that US variant SD Samsung phones are not rootable. There have been countless times before where people have made that statement and yet root has come to fruition, albeit may take a considerable amount of time and effort. Many US customers are unable to buy international variants and are stuck with what we can get. So with that being said, I hope that I am not being too pushy with regards to your statement, I just refuse to be pessimistic when it comes to development and root efforts. The galaxy s8 had root even though it took some time, yet it was suppose to be unrootable. I just like to think that regardless of people saying it "can't " is a motivator to challenge development and experiment.

I am aware, as I was the last person to root one. Changes came with the s9 family that closed the last remaining doors. As you can see by looking the s9 or s9+ were never rooted. The s10 won't be either

It's not. In 100 out of 100 times you find these online they are just the combination bootloader repackaged with this incorrect name, because they can be used to bypass frp in some cases.
I don't know why you are looking for the eng bootloader anyway. Even in the incredibly unlikely scenario you found the real one, it won't help you because devices past the s7 won't boot them anyway without a special certificate that your phone doesn't have (because it effectively unlocks your bootloader anyway)

Man, if only we were able to find and use the ENG firmware! Even if anyone is able to find ENG firmware, they will not be able to use it as @partcyborg already pointed out.. You would need some sort of ENG Token to convert your device into an ENG device which as he also stated would in itself be like unlocking the bootloader.. If you know anyone or any company that is able to convert devices to eng devices (I highly doubt it) then please let us know.
Last I heard if you could even find anyone that is able to sell you an ENG cert/token that they are very expensive...

haha yes, that irritates the CRAP out of me... its like the entire internet doesn't know the difference between "ENG" and "FACTORY" sometimes..
to add, factory firmware will not allow you to root your device. It is only typically "debuggable" (no it isn't a userdebug and if you don't know what this means then it probably won't help you either), permissive and verity disabled.
ENG firmware typically will have "eng" in its name and 5th letter from right to left will typically be an E (for ENG.)
To top it off, most of the world can't even flash factory firmware onto g975u.... I think people should focus on figuring that out before anything.. if not, the world is doooooomed
On a side note: The S8/S8+ SamPWND root did use some ENG firmware (this was of course released after the S7).. Mainly we used the ENG system which has SU binaries by default.. but I can 100% tell you even if we did come across ENG firmware, we can no longer flash the system without ENG token/cert...

$600 USD per device for the s8/s8+. That is after the company plops down $25k up front just to set everything up.
It's likely priced this way specifically to make it virtually impossible to do things like give them out on XDA
I think elliwigy has rooted the S9. S10 will be very very hard to do if not impossible.

Hey everyone, I guess I'm not the only one wanting to root there Razr 5G.
I've always rooted using adb and a twrp.img for the specific model of phone.
But, is there any truth to the Kingroot method out there if you Google "root Razr 5G"?

I wouldn't trust Kingroot. Too many reports on it being malware
Kingroot is very much malware, until someone unlocks the bootloader and goes through getting twrp working I'd hold off on rooting. Of course with the screens being a first gen nearly beta thing I doubt anyone out there is willing to give up the warranty to unlock the bootloader(even though the unlocked 5g model has an unlockable bootloader). Its gonna be a catch 22 for at least a year or until someone gets a phone out of warranty.
Edit: my source for calling kingroot malware is a stack of 3 old budget phones with charging screens that play ads after the kingroot process was performed, as far as I can tell there's no easy way to get rid of them even with working root.

These are your usual throw away burners you'd get at walmart/gas station, not much effort was put into dealing with any of them. Just wanted to use as a cheap chromecast remote but oh well I came upon a cheap nexus 6, works excellent and has wireless charging so it lives on the coffee table now.

Oof. If price is a factor then may I recommend the Pixel 4a. 3 years of Android updates and Google releases the factory images the day of the updates (so you can easily flash a Magisked-up boot.img)

Thanks for the recommendation, but I think you misunderstood, I'm in no way looking for a device these stupid throwaways made it into my life after friends ditched them I just figured it'd be interesting to see what oneclick root options worked. Funnily kingroot was the only one that worked but came at the expense of extra junk and me being extremely vary of even giving the device a wifi connection.

I can confirm the T-mobile/Sprint ones are eligible for bootloader unlock via Motorola's website and I have rooted my Razr 5G and posted the patched boot.img in the General section.
I have an unlocked razr with bootloader unlocked, and rooted via a magisk patched boot image. I am officially volunteering my phone if someone will help me in porting twrp. I have no clue how to do it myself.
