Recently I came across a very strange issue with my Defy. Whenever i wanted to listen to music with my defy via the external connected speaker the phone was getting almost completely unresponsive, the touch screen was going wild - apps running themselves, random buttons pressed themseves etc. Most of the time I streamed the music with Digitally Imported radio or Tune-In Radio and I thought that these applications use a lot o memory and processor and simply my phone doesn't manage to run them and multitask and be fast while I'm using them. But with some time I notced that the freezes and unresponsiveness are only an issue when connected to the speakers, and not when the music is played by the internal speakers or even my headphones.
The speaker I own is a JBL On-Call one (really good sound btw ) but I notced that it conducts an electric current through the wire which Im using to connect the speaker to the Defy , and this causes the problem. I could even feel the current on the wire's jack wth my bare finger. This never happend when the phone is connected to any other speakers or headphones.
So just out of my interest I created this thread here, so maybe it helps other people to find the reason for a similar behavior in theirs phone.
Grounding is not good enough for the JBL as the Defy picks up even a very little leak current flow from the connected external ground. If you have a PC tower casing or other appliances with metal casing, try connect the JBL speaker's jack ground to these casing while connected to your Defy and play a music. I assumed you should know the little wiring experiment here. Worried not as nothing will harm your Defy with this test.
I've had cell phones for over 20 years and have never broken one... till now. I left my GS3 (i747) in my pants pocket and my wife washed them. I took it apart, dried it out, then cleaned it (I was amazed at the amount of corrosion). After putting it back together, everything worked except for the microphones. All the person on the other end could hear was static and crackling, and that was all I get when using Voice Recorder. It works fine with a headset for calls, however. I replaced the microphones but still have the same issue. I also have the same issue if I disconnect the connector for the headset jack so I assume the problem is in the logic board. I also tried it with the new microphones removed just in case I might have messed them up.
Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? How about what the highlighted device on the attached pic of the logic board is that looks kinda like a microphone, i.e. metal can with a small hole in it?

I have been trying to troubleshoot my issues and have had no luck.
one day my headphones stopped playing in my right ear so I figured it was a bad headphone jack. I bought a new one and replaced it. Now it only plays when button control headphones are plugged in (the plugs with the 3 black stripes not the 2 like standard earbuds). It does play but if I turn the headphone plug it stops playing at certain points while turning. the rear speaker works fine.
I tried having the jack plugged in with the metal outer case off and I have the same issue (again, I don't think a short is an issue).
I checked everything and the headphone jack appears to be fine, doesn't appear to be a short anywhere. I am at a loss on what my next step would be.

There are lots of possible solutions, that you can try.
Sounds like you might just need to replace the audio receiver.

Hello all
I'm hoping for some thoughts/ advice. I managed to put my phone in the wash with my clothes, great - pulled it out after a few minutes so it didn't do the whole cycle . That was a month ago. Its been in the rice, its completely dry and it works perfectly amazingly APART from sound. There is no speaker and no microphone either and the earphones don't work either. I do get a crackle from the main speaker when it starts but its very short. The vibrate works, screen, charging, screen, sim - everything.
I've pulled it apart several times and removed what looked like some corrosion residue from the charger area and the camera. Ear speaker looks fine. The main speaker looks fine. My question is, is it worth me buying a new speaker, earphone jack and ear speaker or does it sound like its pretty much screwed?

It's probably not the speaker but the electronics that run it. Amp / preamp ect.
I tried plugging in an aux cable last night, and I couldn't get it to go all the way in. If I pushed it hard enough, the sound would come through the speakers but as soon as I let go, it disconnected. I tried a few different pairs, and it seems there's something preventing the 3.5 mm jack from being inserted all the way. I tried it with and without my Rugged Armor case, too. Anyone else have this issue? Might have to take it in, but with the Pixel XL being in short supply I really don't want to go without a phone

I gave it quite a bit of pressure. I didn't wanna break it, lol. I shouldn't have to push it in that hard though, just wondering if this was a universal issue or is it an isolated incident

It appears I am having the same, or nearly identical issue. I tried using my aux cord, as I normally do nearly every day, on Wednesday and it wasn't connecting properly, giving some weird feedback through the output (or no output at home) and thought it was an issue with the aux to cassette (very possible with the high use and mechanical failures).
At home I tried with headphones, and I could not get a full connection. The device stopped playback of the music as it always does when it detects some input, but there was no output, and at times google now would be activated or the volume down would be activated, but this headphone had no control on it whatsoever, so some sort of short/feedback was emulating a volume control.
Talking with project fi now about my options...still haven't sold my 6p yet so I could still use as a backup, but what a hassle...
I've never had this problem before. Could it be lint? I can't look inside and tell, and I don't have tweezers small enough to reach in.

If you take it into a bestbuy and go to the Samsung reps they'll take a look at it for you and tell you if there is lint or not and get it out for you I know that they're Samsung reps but they help with any Android device lol

No need, went to one of the phone service kiosks in the mall and they used tweezers to pull out a sh-t load of lint. Looked like a magic trick, neither of us could believe it.
Take a toothpick and press towards the bottom, if it's spongy, it's probably lint. Use a bright light to look inside.
A good sucking of the head jack should clear up any clogs..
I actually had the same problem (Pixel XL and I could not plug in my headphone jack all the way). I received the XL on 10/20, but had yet to use my headphones until this past weekend. It seems like this might be a common problem because when I called the Google Pixel Support, they immediately transferred me to Project Fi support and the girl I was speaking with immediately began the process of sending me a new phone (this was on Sunday 11/28). I received the new phone today (11/30) and everything works fine with the new phone and headphone jack.
I have this issue with the Google Pixel. I just got the device yesterday and when plugging it into aux cord in vehicle the sound was distorted. I tried the next time I got into car and it doesn't go in all the way. I went home and tried multiple pairs of headphones and they don't fit into headphone jack 100%. It goes in most of the way but stops at the top and doesn't hold in place. I called Google support and am waiting on a callback.
I had the exact same issue. A bit of canned air worked for me!
