HOWTO: Beginners guide to setting up MTCD_Tools - MTCD Android Head Units General

I only learnt how to use this app yesterday, so please excuse my basics, but because i couldnt find any howto's on this,... this is my attempt to help others.

Open up your 'Other' media player.
In my case it was Jet Audio.
Skip Forward / Back was now working via the steering wheel controls.
Volume was always working, as its a system wide thing.
Im sure there is much more that can be done with this app, im just a novice with Android at this stage tho.
Hope this helps.

Thank you very much my friend, this is extremely helpful.
I hope we can improve this thread and put some more tutorial here.
Thanks again.

thanks. i wish i knew more because i find some things kind of hard to find setup guides for...

Is it possible to remap the knob on the right side of the radio to work as brightness control? Turn knob to the right for more brightness, turn left for less brightness?

Thank you so much, but , i have to turn on the app every time i start the car,
is there anyway to make the service starts after boot up?

Is of possible to update the pics i only see something from photobucket to need upgrade account

grat tutorial!
Is it possible to use other "key actions" like
- volume up
- volume down
- mute
...
where I can find list of all actions that can be bound with keys?
@f1x this tutorial finally made my centre console KNOB working!
You deserve a donation!

I guess it might be, my volume up \ down was working already through the regular Key mapping software, i think the volume was more universal over the whole unit,. and skip was working for standard apps like radio and the standard media player, but i use JetAudio, and needed this to pass the function through to those apps...

this it will be great

Can i change hardware buttons on the headunit with this to start an app?

Is it somehow possible to bind Keyboard keys like arrow and enter to the steering wheel?

Is it possible to bind steering wheel button for voice control with MTCD-dialer?
I cant make calls with google, it says, icant make calls yet, or semething.
Regards

Sorry i haven't been replying guys,
I really only needed to fix my (Skip Forward \ Skip Previous) keys so i stopped learning after i solved my issue.
I'm guessing this app is pretty powerful, and there are many possibilities but personally, i don't know how to do anything else because i haven't looked into it.

I want to thank Geniee33 one more time for this great tutorial(and of course the creator of the app).
This tutorial and the app was really really helpful as the default music player is absolutely useless.
Thanks my friend.

Does anyone know the answer to this?
I have a W204 Mercedes C-Class and would love the ability to scroll left to right through my apps using the navigation wheel in my centre console then select the app by pressing down on the wheel. :good:

Hello,
I have an Erisin car stereo (KGL) that works with Android 6.0.1 and mcu MTCE and I can not get MTCDTools 1.9 running with PowerAmp.
I set MTCDTools, the previous and next steering wheel buttons are well recognized by the application, but if I run PowerAmp and I press previous or next, I just have a "Beep", but it is not pass nothing!
Before updating the firmware, I had the mcu MTCD and I used the version 1.6 of MTCDTools and it worked very well.
Can someone help me? Thank you.

I know i'm late to this party but it seems on the MTCD/E devices MTC keys may not work so I will have to go this route to remap keys I assume? Does anyone know if this supports double/triple pressing of a button to assign different functions?
Thanks
Dave

Cant wait to try this thanks I mad a Googe Doc here it is hope you don't mind

SciLor's GSensor Control is a tool for converting your Gsensor in a Dpad .
Choose from to modes: Analog Emulation or Digital Pad.
Analog Emulation sends the more keystroke the more you tilt your device
Digital Pad just holds the button in the direction you tilt it. If you put your device flat again the button is release.
You will know to be able to press enter by pulling your device up.

You will need .NET CF 3.5 (and a device with a g-sensor of course) - Link at the Bottom
This is a g-sensor d-pad emulator. Just tilt your device for sending up/down/left/right/return.
For sending the return button just pull your device upwards.
-Analog Emulation tries to send the more keystrokes the more you tilt your device
-Digital Pad sends just holds the "button" as long you tilt your device in that direction
You will always have to run the application to make it work. There is not background process (yet).
Beware, Alpha status!

Wow, this is quite innovative. Gonna try definitely.
Nice but can I suggest something?
I completely agree, this is what button less devices need. I can't believe there are no proper working versions of tilt scrolling are available. G controller and D pad seem promising but are not really getting far.
As far as I can see you only need two things to get this working great.
1: Device centring so it can be calibrated to a normal holding position for neutral.
2: Maybe a map to a button to pause it - so, for instance, hold the volume button so stop it scrolling once you are where you need to be - or the other way round - press a button to un-pause it and allow scrolling.
If you could get it to emulate finger scrolling - like moving around a webpage or document - that would be awesome.
Good luck - someone's gotta get this working
Nice ideas, I will take them into account Feel free to post future suggestions in my Forums so I can better keep track of them!
tested
I tried this on my Imagio this morning (6.5). Didn't appear to work (I could have been doing something wrong but it seems like a pretty straight forward deal). I tested it on the Total Commander menu and the PHM Registry menu. It did not respond to either of the 2 options.
I tried installing on device memory and storage card. I did several soft resets. I reinstalled. I have zoombar plus installed. that turns your zoombar into a d pad by sending keystrokes- could that cause a conflict with this app?
**EDIT** So I uninstalled both. Reinstalled GSensor. Still not working for me. Looking forward to further development though.
To bad Do you have any GSensor build in? Does other software work that uses this sensor (HDWobble/HD2Wobble)?
GSensor
I do have a G Sensor built in. I have the game Teeter (labyrinth) . Works like a charm.
I will come back to you, if I continue working on it
Brilliant!
I've just installed it on my HD2 (using Duttys HG v0.9 WWE).
The only App I really want to use it in is MS Reader & I can confirm that it works there. However, there are a few enhancements needed before I'd add it to my permanently installed programmes ...
1.) Sensitivity setting ... it's far too sensitive (analogue or digital) ... I'd prefer it if a definite movement was needed, as it is, the slightest adjustment of angle (and none of us are rock steady! ) triggers the app.
2.) The ability to automatically enable or disable depending on which application had the focus (i.e. a whitelist & a blacklist) ... was a bit disconcerting when my home-page suddenly started switching tabs, etc!
3.) Calibration for centering (as suggested by Toggs) ... I definitely don't use my phone perfectly flat, but hold it tilted at all times ...
4.) ?? Mapping of the G-Sensor direction ?? i.e. I'm fine with left-tilt/right-tilt being page forward, page-back. But it would be nice if up-tilt/down-tilt were mappable to something else.
5.) This is 1. & 4. combined ... would it be possible to be selectively sensitive? i.e. set the up-tilt/down-tilt to a low (or zero) sensitivity & the left/right higher?
Thanks for a great addition to my HD2 experience. I'll definitely be donating once it's out of beta!
Thank you for your suggestions. I wil do my best to include that
SciLor
Does nothing here on my Touch HD
What should it do?!
Do I have to start that program to work or is it autostarted after a soft reset?
Should it "simulate" d-pad right button when i do this with my phone?
Doing nothing for me either. I am really looking to try this & spread word about it...Let me know if I can be of any help. I tried both ways but not working..actually nothing happens actually. Using TP2 unbranded with g-sensor enabled.
Nice, gonna try this.
btw. why are you giving me the finger in your readme

Yes, that will be great. For now its to much.
Maybe its nice idea to measure the curent state (position) of the device and use that as 0 position (starting) for G-Sensor every time we starting this software
I will do my best to give you a nice experience. I am currently planning that you can set up a standard behavior and you may also set special behavior for applications. You may choose if the GSensor should be calibrated on the programs startup automaticly, you may pre calibrate it for the application only or use the standard you set.
Mhh I hope I find enough time to make that features soon
SciLor
PS:
What about running it as a process, seperated from the config tool so there is any need of an open window in the background.

Mango new features currently available in the Emulator

A short delve into the emulator in the developer tools reveals things like navigation that still hasn't officially been confirmed!
Here's what I've found so far:
Zune:
-There's a smart-dj feature
-You can create and save playlists
-There's a "related artists" and bio under the artist tab, great for discovering music
-Podcasts work well
-You can't "heart" songs (at least in the emulator)
-There's still no scrub controls
Bing & Maps
-Bing maps has voice-guided directions as expected
-You can show traffic on maps
-Still no landscape maps
-It's now possible to scroll the mini-map while the text directions are on-screen
-Bing music recognizes music like Shazam and clicking on the result will take you to zune marketplace
-You can now unlock the phone using the search button, apparently
-If you search for something on Bing that has an application equivalent; it will show you a link to the application within Bing.
Keyboard
-Keyboard prediction has been improved a lot:
It previously didn't correct misspellings of many short words like ar -> at, fir-> for and br-> be), now it does
It also now corrects it if you press a letter instead of space between two words e.g. it will suggest "I'm about" if you type imnabout or imnaboit, and will suggest "How are you" if you type "hownarebyou"
The keyboard also corrects common misspellings like Profesional -> Professional
-Keyboard tries to predict next word (as shown at 24th May event), e.g. If you type I, then "tr", it will suggest "tried", whereas in WP7 it will suggest nothing. This seems to work pretty well
IE
- Websites seem to render more accurately
- Websites can use GPS data for location
- Bing suggestions now appear when typing a search in IE as well
- Text still looks garbled when really zoomed out
- Tab animation has changed very subtly
General OS:
- Same colour themes as last time
- It appears you can't "press and hold" the back button in the emulator, meaning possibly we can't do multitasking, even in an unlocked emulator.
Camera
- No changes in general layout. There seems to be a software camera button in the camera app
Can't wait for an unlocked emulator!
Update: If you search for something on Bing that has an application equivalent; it will show you a link to the application within Bing. Picture at the end.
Update 2: Additions to the keyboard section about prediction
Update 3: There seems to be a software camera button in the camera app
Update 4: It appears you can't "press and hold" the back button in the emulator, meaning possibly we can't do multitasking, even in an unlocked emulator.
Update 5: The "my location" icon now has the same colour as the OS theme

Thank you for the infos you provided! I was wondering if there's any chance to explain a bit how does the "smart DJ" option in Zune, work?
Can you move songs around freely and then create the playlist or not? How does it work?
Thank you for your time!
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on the emulator. I'll let you know if I can get it working.
EDIT: To expand on that, it says "WE don't have enough info about this artist to generate a Smart DJ playlist"

Who knows what "smart dj" option really is...
Anyway, thanks for your time and efforts!
On the zune player, the smart dj takes the song you are listening to, and creates a playlist of 25 or so songs that are similar to that song.

its kinda like Pandora, auto creates a playlist based on your taste with songs from your library and also marketplace if u have a Zune pass. The Zune desktop software has it and so did the Zune HD I m guessing.
And yeah Bing music looks awesome, maybe thats why Shazam decided to remove their app from the marketplace
Awesome work so far Robin.B! We're writing an article about this post right now.
From the 7.1 Beta Release notes:
"The task-switching user interface that accessed on physical devices by pressing and holding the back button, is not supported on the emulator."
I was looking forward to checking that out, too
One of the main Mango's features: IE now supports HTML5! And with hardware rendering and acceleration! This benchmark http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/performance/fishietank/ gives me about 25-26 fps in emulator. Wow, MS! Real device will render at least 50-60 fps
P.S. Still no Silverlight support in browser :-(
@ jmerrey and cbebop7
Ah, that is the thing I was hoping not to get as an answer... I hope you agree with me, that that is kinda useless.
It would be much better if one could rearange the songs in wished order, and then save that as an playlist (of course, with a possibility of editing that playlist).
Task Switching is accessed by pressing and holding F1 on your keyboard.
I'm running the emulator and was looking forward to trying a few things, but my PC keyboard doesn't work in the emulator. Is this normal?

[XAP] Power Slider - App to change master volume & Screen Brightness

Hi,
I have created a simple app for changing master volume. This app would be helpful for those who do not wish to use physical keys. This app works in dev unlocked device and greater.
Finally, thanks to Fiinix for the dllImport project.
Update 1:
========
Added Screen brightness slider also. Not sure if it is really needed by users.
Though the values are updated to registry, there is not much difference in brightness while sliding.
Thanks to Heathcliff for WP7RootTools sdk.

Installed on my Focus and works well with one exception. Always shows 17 as the level if last set to 0 or mute. If set to any other number, that number will be properly displayed when closing and reopening this app.

That did it, works fine. Was waiting for something like this.
At a guess, this shouldn't even require interop-unlock, much less full-unlock or root-unlock. Is that correct? I know you can change the volume level using DllImportProject on just dev-unlock only.
Few improvements imho:
*mute button should unmute if phone allready muted
*max level button
*arround 3 custom buttons (that you can previously set the vol level to w/e you want)
*a metro icon
cheers
In my not full-unlock rom of my HTC Mozart work well. Thanks.

@GoodDayToDie,
Yes, all dev unlocked devices will be supported. It doesn't need full unlock.
@fredsky2,
Will update with a metro icon and preset button. Max vol could be configured in preset itself.
The api does not have support for mute. I could only reduce the volume to 0. Even if I store the value locally, it will not be useful if physical keys are also used in parallel.
a most excellent idea, thanks. will provide feedback once i actually try it out.
definitely a nice application.
and i do agree with the suggestions by @fredsky2, plus a 'return to default 15 volume' button.
i don't see the use of Custom Buttons beyond a Max, Default & Mute button.
i also suggest removing the Splash Screen, application should load more swiftly.
if you want to do a Mute/Unmute button, you might...
when Mute button is pressed:
01. catch & save the current volumeValue
02. change volumeValue to 0
03. change button Title to Unmute or hide buttonMute to reveal buttonUnmute
when [Un]mute Button is pressed:
01. grab savedVolumeValue
02. change volumeValue to savedVolumeValue
03. change Button Title to Mute or hide buttonUnmute to reveal buttonMute

Oh My God! Thanks OP for coming out with this. Your timing couldn't be any better....
I just posted a dismantling guide for the Titan in the Titan fora and I accidentally broke the data strip that connects the volume hard keys to the device. Much to my surprise (or lack thereof), there is no way to change volume without these keys (or with a headset that allows you to do this). Your app is literally the answer to my prayers
Thanks again!
@sh4d0w86,
Improved loading speed of app by removing unwanted dll's. It should be now faster.
Works on my Windows Phone Samsung Focus, Chevron Unlocked, Mango . Here are my suggestion.
1. Live Tile to Mute, Bring Volume to a Defined Level.
2. Colour of the bar can change from green to yellow to red depending if volume is low, medium and high.
- Live Tile can also follow the color codes
3. Support for Vibrate Mode and Live tile for it.
4. Fancy Stuff :
- Let user tilt the phone to change volume.
- Support with Talk Me to set volume to a desired level.
And Like sh4d0w86 said, sync when volume is changed with hardware button.
---------- Post added at 12:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:32 PM ----------
If possible bring in the profiles where I can have combination of Volume Level, Vibration etc to change it at a certain time or when I need it.
@Purushoth
Very useful app, works very well on my Omnia 7 with custom rom.
Big thanks.
@sh4d0w86,

Not working correctly on my HTC 7 Pro (fully unlocked)
Volume control working fine.
Brightness changes nothing..

SAME Thing as by Lidanh !

Volume keys change ringtone volume

Is there a way to disable this function? I really don't need it. I have not once since I got the phone used it, only by mistake...
And when using some camera apps, with volume key as shutter. I like my ringtone to be static thank you.
It would be cool if it could be changed to control media volume at all times.

What do you mean by "useless for all of us here"? Am I really the only one who is bothered by this? I have accidentally put the ringervolume to very low values a number of times without knowing. The whole function just seems strange to me.To bad there isn't a mod around for it (or to bad that I'm strange, as it seems).
thanks
maybe you may remap keys with an app, but you must be rooted first. you can unmap buttons at all i think, but about only media volume i can't help you, nobody thought about before, solution: you have to get used to this!

Thanks, I am rooted but un- or remapping the keys is not really what I was looking for. I still want to be able to adjust speakervolume during calls etc... I guess I will have to get used to it.
But is this function really used by people? I am curious, please someone elaborate.
There must be some line of code that goes: while not playing media and vol key is pressed- change ringvolume. Just change that to mediavolume, that was what I was thinking.
Anyway, will drop the subject if no-one is interested.
It is a problem to me, too. I think the default function of volume buttons could be the media volume, not ringtone volume.

Don't buy smartphones then if volume buttons are annoying. Volume buttons is a must for a lot of people, that's why they exist. If phone producers wouldn't make phones without volume buttons, no one should bye these phones. Eventually, you can root your phone and delete volume buttons I key mapping.

Would not be surprised if Apple patented that lol. But not the ability to switch between ringer and mediavolume. My phone would be perfect with something like this implemented, have not found any other annoyances at all.
Have you tried Volume Locker it's free and I used this on my DHD which kept changing.
Thank you! Just installed it, and it seems to do the trick. I also got this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656096
[MOD]Change/Remove sound made when you alter volume | [TOOL]
....to make it silent. Cheers!
I have the same problem and still looking for solution
Hi,
It's a shame, that Android doesn't have this feature, but the IPhone.
I've a Samsung Galaxy S3, but the same problem - it would be great if somebody could create a MOD for this problem.
Tim
It would be great to have a mod for volume buttons to change media volume instead of ringer.
For ringer I just use two options, vibrate only or vibrate + ringtone. I don't change ringer volume except incidentally, which is annoying.
I believe that CyanogenMod can remap volume keys behavior.
It's amazing that people reply to this thread before reading the original message.
What I have gathered so far is that the default android build does not allow to decouple the ring volume from the buttons for some mysterious reason.
CyanogenMod roms do have an option that takes care of that!
For phones that do not have CM available some alternatives were posted before.
any solution for stock rooted phones?

[MOD] Remap your... headset keys

Pretend you're using some non-stock headset (because stock one is a complete garbage) that has more than 1 button on it.

You plug it in any android device -- these buttons do what they should, change the volume.
You plug it in an HTC Vision -- these buttons switch tracks for some weird reason! (well, the reason is not that 'weird' -- it's just HTC decided to use these functions on their headset)
Some of you may have tried to edit .kl files, but probably without success.
The secret is that Android detects the headphone jack as another device, that has no configuration created for it (at least on ICS and JB).
That causes the system to use "generic" key layout mapping which clearly says:
Code:
key 163 MEDIA_NEXT
key 165 MEDIA_PREVIOUS
key 226 HEADSETHOOK
The solution for this is pretty simple. We need to find a necessary device, create a configuration for it and put it into /system directory.
Long story short, putting h2w_headset.kl to /system/usr/keylayout (don't forget to set permissions to rw-r--r--) will make headset buttons work like they do on all "normal" devices.
By the way, if you're using CyanogenMod, you're not losing an ability to switch tracks! "Volume rocker track skip" option also works for headset buttons (and you can also double-tap the Play/Pause/PTT button to go to the next track)

Need some more details. What headset are you using? Did buttons even work before installing this mod?
This is apple headset. Only play button works on android devices.

They've got different pinouts for those buttons, unfortunately.
What you could try is to type "getevent" in Terminal Emulator, press some headset buttons and post the output here (but I doubt phone will even recognize this)
Hey I have been having a weird issue with apple headphones now, all other brands work, and apple headphones usally work as a headset/mic but the mic hasn't been working for some reason?
Could this be mapping related? And if not does anybody know of a solution?

Different pinouts again. One word: Apple.
As for buttons, there is a pretty good manual on how to make +/- buttons work with Android devices.

Probably a software one, but quite difficult to fix.
All Android-based devices control headset buttons by measuring a resistance between two pins: 0 Ohms (short-circuit) for play/pause/call (this also works with iPhone headsets), plus 220 and 600 Ohms for volume or track switch keys.
This is controlled by a kernel headset driver, which acts as a "mapper" between resistance values and key codes.
Next, key codes are passed to the Android framework, where these key codes are mapped to their "behaviour" (that's where .kl files comes into place)
I don't think this is a hardware issue, because your device detects _every_ resistance change, but always assigns the "default" key code for it.
If it was a hardware fault (let's say, device couldn't detect resistances lower than 100 Ohms), volume buttons wouldn't work at all.

Please read my post carefully. That's a kernel-related thing, modifying .kl files won't help here.

Oh damn,i need to report this to huawei then?!
Worked great with my HTC One M8 and HTC Smart Wire headset RCE190.
Now I can control volume while listening music and can use the volume buttons to take pictures with camera.
Thanks :good:
