Flash SM-A520F/DS with a SM-A520F firmware? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Hello there,
Recently I bought a Samsung A5 2017 in Indonesia (model dual sim) and would like to know if it's possible to put a french firmware (so a firmware of SM-A520F) on SM-A520F/DS model?
Thanks for your help

It would be wiser to use dual sim firmware rather than single sim firmware

Thanks but I don't find any dual sim firmware even on Sammobile....
Is there a risk of brick if I flash with a single sim firmware? Or maybe there's another solution?

I was worried too but I tried to use the normal a520f firmware and it worked fine.
BTW Some apps may not work because they will assume you are rooted eg. S HEALTH and secret mode on browser but you can actually root to get around this by editing a line in build.prop

I'm on the same boat, only with the A3: I've bought my phone as an A320F/DS (that's what the box says, and indeed it has double SIM), but when you check Settings--»About phone--»Model name, it only says A320F (without the DS). And then when you look for firmware updates in Samsung website, you only find for the A320F. Might it be that A320F/DS is only a second, alternative denomination for the A320F, being both identical? (Same would happen with the A7.)

It's one year since your question, but still my answer may help others:
I've flashed a SM-A320F stock firmware on my SM-A320F/DS and it works perfectly. I believe that the A series firmwares are exactly the same for single SIM and dual SIM models.

In trying to sort this out for the s7 g935f/ds, I believe I was told that indeed the F firmware is the correct firmware for both 1 and 2 sim models. There was no FDS firmware at all.

A520F firmware compatibility of Single SIM firmware and Dual SIM firmware

Hi guys
I known that this A5 2017 model have two types.
1) A520F - Single SIM model
2) A520F/DS - Dual SIM model
I have question of Dual SIM model and single sim model firmware compatibility.
Q#1)What if i flashed Single sim firmware (EX)AU-Vodafone, CSC:VAU) on dual sim hardware model (A520F/DS),
Is it working only Single sim mode? or it can working Dual sim mode even Single sim firmware(VAU)?
Q#2) if Q#1 is true and flashed Single sim firmware then restore to Dual sim firmware (like India, Taiwan, UAE regions firmware will support Dual SIM),
Is it restored fully dual sim mode from Single sim firmware ? I am worrying if i flashed Single sim firmware then back to Dual sim firmware, modem(Like IMEI #1, #2)/baseband information lost or not
and bootloader locked by previous(Single sim) flashed bootloader. Also it it void Knox warranty? I known that official firmware cross flash is not void know warranty, is it correct?
Thank you
Just flash with odin, know will not be triggered by flashing official firmware.
Just test it, u won't lose ur data en if anything went wrong just flash your stock firmware back.

SM-A520F to SM-A520F/DS

Hello,
I have Samsung A5 2017 Single Sim (SM-A520F) and I want to know if I can convert it to Samsung A5 2017 Dual Sim (SM-A520F/DS).
If the answer is yes can you tell me how?
If install the firmware from SM-A520F/DS in my phone and use the right sim holder (sim+sd card) will be ok?
I have two phone numbers and I can't use two phones all the time.
P.S. In Europe Official Samsung A5 is the SM-A520F
Thanks for your time.

I doubt it. The phone must have the hardware to read 2 SIMs. Not as eady as putting a SIM caddy. Not sure if the SS device has that hardware in place. The Moto X Play did, but dual SIM can only be done with two IMEIs. Furthermore, the legality of such a system varies from country to country
You could buy a Dual sim Adapter
I want to know...if someone has a DS version can they use a 520F firmwire!?

Flashing S20+ SM-G9860

I recently obtained a Samsung S20+ SM-G9860. However, I am in the US and am intending to flash the AT&T firmware for the SM-G986U. When I try to do this, I get a secure check fail on the PIT file due to the differing model. Is there a way to circumvent this? The two models have identical hardware from what I can see.
Is it possible to do this, and what is the process for doing this if it is indeed possible?
You cannot flash a rom built for a snapdragon chipset on a phone with a exynos chipset
Be thankful there is that safety check built in. Lol

It's the Hong Kong variant. It does appear to be a dual SIM, however.

The hardware isn't identical, SM-G986U is a Single SIM Device, your's is a Dual SIM.. TGY is the CSC in your device and even if you could flash SM-G986U Firmware the CSC would not change, it will still be TGY. If you're looking to get full AT&T call functionality on your device it's not possible as the CSC doesn't support AT&T compatibility. Firmware is CSC specific as well.

But mine has two IMEI numbers though 1 for physical and another for esim, HOWEVER the esim option to add another QR code for another network is not visible. Its like the device is locked for VERIZON esim use only.
Oh well, guess gotta wait for another few month for newer updates to be able to use another network esim or firmware flashing that can enable this option soon...

If your device is the SM-G986U it's a Single SIM Device which doesn't at this point doesn't support eSim. Does the SIM Management Screen actually display the word "eSim"? Share a photo please. The device is likely still locked by Verizon. What is your motivation to change the Firmware to SM-G9860, do you live in Hong Kong?
Im sorry unfortunately I cant post links for my screenshots or upload any pictures..

I bought my phone online.. When I start up my phone it says Verizon, but its unlocked though because I can use any country physical simcard. Like right now im using my local simcard in Malaysia. I live in Malaysia and the reason I want to flash rom my SM-G986U device to Hong Kong firmware is so that I can use any eSim network in my country for my other network phone number.... If its a software for eSim that I can get for firmware that will be very helpful. Because the main local Malaysian samsung s20+ 5G firmware model is base on Exynos 990 which I doubt will fit for my US phone model..
I don't think you can flash SM-9860 Firmware onto your device but even if you could you still won't have eSim capability. Mix and matching firmware typically has more success on Exynos International Variants since they are Multi-CSC Enabled Devices. So if you have a British CSC (VOD) you may have success flashing German Firmware (VD2) since both CSC's are already stored in the device however even then some call features may not work. Snapdragon Devices don't have Multi-CSC's and as mentioned previously the Firmware is CSC Specific, they're made for one another. IF you had an Unlocked Bootloader, which you don't, there may be a method to modify the CSC once you root the device.. I did follow a thread a couple of years back where a gal had some success modifying her CSC on a Snapdragon Device but I believe that was a Galaxy S8. Also, I'm still curious if the word "eSim" actually appears in the SIM Management Screen on your device.

Damn.. that is some nice insights.. I read a thread somewhere too that US SM-G986U cannot and will not be able to enable its OEM or unlocked bootloader.. the eSim actually doesnt appear in the Sim Management Screen on my device. I really want to upload some links of the screenshot but for now I cant do anything as Im a new member.. I just have to wait for the network shop to open up to change my current esim card to physical simcard.. its been 2 months plus of this coronavirus lockdown and our network providers cant do much about it too..
Anyways I really appreciate the insights, like you said even if I could flash in Hong Kong SM-9860 in to my US SM-G986U, I might run into some software or calls dysfunctionalities..
Anyone got th atct update for the sm-g9880 yet? Seems the u.s has got this update before Asia?

SM-G9880 Flashing Question

I recently just bought a S20 Ultra that has a unlockable bootloader. A little while back, I had a Galaxy S9 that I could completely convert the entire device to U1. Is that even possible with this device ? To fully convert the CSC and bootloader ect, to a US model ?

That was then. Each model is specific to a region and can not be flash with software from another region. I.E you cannot flash G9880 with firmware from G988U or G988U1 or the other way around.
What exactly changed from the S9 to the S20 that made that impossible ?

Any luck? I just got one in Canada and it only has 3g ad 4g so I was hoping I could flash a csc file.
So I attempted to edit the band config using QPST and QXDM, but I'm very unfamiliar with both programs and how to actually read and write information to the modem using those programs. Definitely not for the average user. Back in the days when devices had ESN numbers, I used to flash software using QPST and QXDM but there is a lot that has changed with those programs, and I wouldn't even know how to do that stuff today. If anyone has any knowledge about those two programs that can help me unlock all the US 5G bands for AT&T and Verizon that would extremely helpful.
