Which One Should I Buy? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I'm considering buying a Verizon Galaxy S8+ or the unlocked Samsung U.S. version, which one would be the better option? I like Verizon's service but want the option to choose other service providers.

Verizon is unlocked out of the box, and if you really wanted to you could flash the unlocked firmware. That's what I did, but it really depends on price I guess. Get whichever is cheaper, it's the same phone anyways.

I used your advice and ordered the Verizon 8+ because it was $35 cheaper than the US unlocked version.

Seems like it's too late but the Verizon S8 & S8+ won't get activated on Sprint. If you're not planning on ever switching to Sprint, then you're fine.

Buahaha! So true!

Not sure if you saw this, but there's a pretty good deal on the Samsung Store that I saw last night.
http://www.samsung.com/us/trade-in/?cid=us_ppc_google-8875160598
You can get $200 off with any trade in, so basically get a $20 walmart phone and you get $200 back. I'd go with that if it's not too late, or $250 off the Verizon one only.

I bought it off swappa. The guy I bought it from said that he purchased it from samsung brand new un opened. I contacted the seller last week because I wanted to see if he still had the receipt. At the time he was on vacation but is back now. I sent him another email this morning and asked him to look for it. He replied and told me that he would try to find it, a few hours goes by and he emails me back and said that he couldn't find the receipt. Which makes me think he is lying. Why do you ask if the box was sealed?

I ordered a Verizon 8+ phone from Samsung and the box didn't have any seals on it. I work with a guy who brought his phone from Sprint and his box had 2 seals on it.
The phone you purchased might be under contract with a service provider.

It's just that there have been a quite a few horror stories posted about dealings with Swappa.
On other note, I will never buy from Samsung.com again, it's BestBuy for me. I'm still waiting on a return label from them and it's been over 2 weeks!!!

Wow. I'm really hopping the guy I bought this thing from finds the receipt for this phone. But something is telling me that he's either not the original owner or he didn't buy it new. I will no soon if he's telling me the truth or not. If I paid over 700 bucks for something, I do believe I would know exactly were the receipt was. And if I sold someone something brand new I would give them the receipt in case he/she had problems with what ever they purchased. And then again he could have simply lost it or threw it away and keeps putting me off afraid that I will catch him in a lie.

Well these kinda things happen to people that doesn't know what types of questions to ask. People has to have some common sense. Do you think for 1 second that I would pay any amount of money for something without first asking 101 questions.

Nope. I chatted with a rep earlier about it. No information posted online for them, and her scripts didn't say anything. She checked with a supervisor who confirmed that AT&T hadn't told them what the off-contract price would be.
I'm expecting $649-$699 for the 16GB version, but am prepared to go as high as $799 based on international prices for off-contract phones.
The rumor for tmo is $700, I figure att would be similar.

I'm gonna say it will be the same as the Note 1. $549 - $599.

$649 is alright. Why not $549 or $599?
On TMobile's website it is $649,

Kinda hard to be "stoked" at the price but that's what I just paid for my T-mobile variant... Although it's not as bad as what a lot of people were paying for International N7100's but they just sold for $589.00 on Ebay so if I didn't have to pay tax I would have been a tad more "stoked"... Only on XDA will you hear someone say they were stoked about that price! LOL I am just messin with ya though cause I am glad it wasn't the $699.00 that I thought it was going to be...

I tried to order one at no-commitment price, but even when you choose that option rather than 1-year or 2-year contract, it will not let you buy without choosing a plan. I cannot figure out how to buy just the phone from AT&T.

It gave me the "No commitment" option from the drop down menu. Just pre-ordered mine an hour ago. And to confirm again, yes $649. Ships overnight Nov. 6th.

If you've already got an account, log in and run it as an upgrade. Full retail is the only price you'll see, but it will stick to your current data and voice plans without prompting you to select a new one.
The rep I spoke to initially said to order the phone with a plan, then cancel that plan as soon as the phone arrives. Not sure I like that idea, as touching your plan at all could potentially take you off of unlimited data.
The Galaxy Not original was $849.99 So i would safely guess close to there.
I pre-ordered the Sammy G-note II from AT&T the first day available on the 25th and I paid $649 plus the tax of $39 and it is said that I will be getting it Nov. 6th to Nov. 9th.

You can usually get a early upgrade from AT&T if you call or stop in the store it's usually the price of the phone plus 250.00 would make the phone 549.99 and all you have to do is extend your current contract to get it.
Does not matter if you have no contract but if you do you should be good does not hurt to ask
Anyone know a good insurance to get with the phone. I kind of want to preorder from ATT now so i can get the phone at launch. But best buy's $10/mo insurance seems to be an unbeatable deal and i may end up waiting for them. I had a nightmare damage experience with my previous phone so i dont wanna get the note 2 without insurance
Seems like atts $200 deductible makes their insurance garbage.

G3 Deal @ Staples - $499

For those still looking to get G3 or potentially pick up another, Staples has the T-Mobile G3 on sale today for $499. Also, if you search around, you may find an additional 10% off coupon. If so, this would bring it down to $450 for 32GB version.

Yes I would, they are Christmas gifts for (myself and) my family.
Two years ago, I bought GS3s for myself plus 3 others. Last year, I bought them all GS4s, with the requirement that they give me back the S3s (which I sold). So basically as a Christmas gift, I essentially perform an upgrade for them lol.
I already have a G3, though I didn't sell my S4 this time. I kept it and I use it as an around-the-house phone thanks to the new Hangouts.
And thanks for the info on this deal. I decided to pick up only one for now, as I'm thinking something might come about on Black Friday or closer to Christmas...

Everyone who is using their phone on T-mobile could you please log in to your account online and see what it says for what kind of phone you are using.
Mine says the following:
LG G3 - METALLIC BLACK - CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED
If that is correct staples sold us a used phone under the advertisement of a new one.
Please post your result asap, I will be calling t-mobile to inquire.
Update:
Talked to T-Mobile and the customer service rep says that it might just be a glitch. If no one else reports this issue I won't worry about it. Please let us know what your's says.

T-Mobile Bad IMEI Financed with Tmobile

So my main question here is can I unlock this phone and use it with my Straight Talk ATT Sims card like I have in the past with other phones. They seller on eBay is stating that the phone does have a bad IMEI and is Financed with Tmobile. So does this stop this phone from being used with Pre Paid Carriers such as ATT or Straight Talk? I really want to use this phone but I do not want to buy a paper weight.
yes you can I went through the same thing...I can't remember if I got LTE or not but it will work.

Thanks so much for the fast reply next question did T-Mobile a few months later block your phone completely or are you (was you) able to continue using that phone? I do not wish to get "screwed" over if you know what I mean... I have had no issues with unlocking other devices and using my sims with them but this will be the first time I have tried with a device that has a bad IMEI. I guess if worst come to worst I have 14 days to send the device back for a full refund. I only need to test for a day to see if it can even be done. I do not see them blocking it once I unlock the device and port it to a new pre paid carrier. If anyone else has any other information or experiences I would very much appreciate the feedback!!!

It will not work. There is a national blacklist. Even if it does work, it won't for long.
what happened was that I bought a T Mo GN 2 off craigslist a month after it came out. I didn't know it was financed through the company so I got the phone activated with T-Mo. About a month later the phone had an X over the signal bar, So I called T-Mo and they said that the phone was blocked because it was financed through them and the seller didn't pay the bill. So I went through ST with a T- MO version of the sim card and the phone didn't work either. So I was like ok lets try the ST ATT Sim. And it worked ever since then. I think they only put it on the national blacklist if it was stolen. But I sold the phone last year and it was working on ATT Straight Talk service up until that point.

With the latest news involving the replacement Note 7s having battery issues, Samsung and all carriers have stopped the exchange of the Note 7. Depending on the carrier, they will either let you exchange your phone for another device(S7, iphone, etc.) or a full refund. Wherever you bought your Note 7 is where you will go to do the exchange or refund. If you bought it on the Verizon website, then go to a corporate store. If you have purchased your phone through a third party(ebay, swappa) Samsung will refund you for the Note 7. I literally just got off the phone with Samsung. I purchased my phone through Swappa and I asked the Samsung rep on how to get a refund since I purchased from a third party. The representative asked for my name, address, and IMEI number of the device. Then the representative asked what third party and directed me to someone else to initiate the refund. Once I got with the other person, he told me that they will be sending me a box with a prepaid label and told me to put the phone and all accessories in the box and mail it back out. He said once the company receives the phone, it will take 10 to 14 days to receive a check for the refund. He told me if you happen to have the receipt of the phone, put it in the box and they will refund you that amount. If you dont, they will give you the MSRP of the phone based off of what your carrier is selling it as. I told the guy that I didn't have the receipt obviously since I bought it from Swappa and the seller didn't have it and he told me that I would be getting the refund of $864 since that is the MSRP of the phone through Verizon. Just thought I would share my experience to everyone who may be in the same boat as me as I will never buy from a third party (Swappa) again.

Little late dude. It's already been posted the note is done. Samsung announced worldwide recall. No notes will be swapped. All either returned or swapped to another device.

My apologies. I didn't know that this was late news. I literally just saw it on the news this morning that people were having battery issues on their replacement Note 7.

I tried to reach Samsung yesterday cause Verizon is giving me the run around on a Craigslist device. What number did you use to get a hold of Samsung?

Samsung is a grossly mismanaged company.

I called the main number. 1-800-Samsung. I called on September 30th. They gave me a reference number. I had to call several times before I was transferred to the right department. They are supposed to get back to me in 5-7 business days. Apparently today is not 7 business days yet. I called this morning they said they would call me tomorrow.

I called samsung to. Same response 5 to 7 business days. I told them that is pathetic. I said you need to do whatever it takes to get these phones out of consumers hands....3rd party or not. If something does happen i will start a lawsuit. Bite the bullet and just issue refunds. They said they NOTED it lolol.

I was told i did not have to power it down, only power it down if it fealt hot. So they cant claim that.
Just a helpful message to those dealing with Verizon. I successfully did an exchange for the iPhone 7 + today and they tried to charge me a $20 per line upgrade fee for each Note 7 I exchanged. Your situation may be different but I did not upgrade to the note 7 originally, I was a new customer purchasing the Note 7 but there is no way they should be charging anyone a fee in this situation. The guy on the phone just said it was all sales tax, it wasn't until I received email confirmation of my order that I noticed there was sales tax + upgrade fees.

yes it was a Craigslist device and sweet I need to call them! They just credit it to a credit card number you give them??
What is Samsung going to do about the accessories that I purchased for my Note 7? Phone cases, USB-C cables and adapters, apps for the Gear VR that I purchased? I am waiting for some sort of statment form Samsung. I hope that address these issues. I am really gonna miss my Note 7!

"Free VZW Message: Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Note7 will no longer be sold for safety reasons. We strongly recommend that you power down and exchange your Note7 for another device of your choice. You can exchange your Samsung Galaxy Note7 at go.vzw.com/note7faq. Exchanging your Note7 online instead of visiting a Verizon store will be your most efficient way to get a new device."
Everyone got this.

Since I didn't get that text is it safe to say they maybe messed up and don't realize I still have a note 7? I've returned one before.. And it was a replacement device.. Not one of the recall ones.

I feel like there will be a 5G version released for T-Mobile, but no idea when.
Just check out the drop-down list for the devices that can be unlocked here: https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token

Saw that this morning. Already planning to return my 7T to T-Mobile now, but unfortunately I'm getting hit with a restocking fee. Bit of a learning experience with that though as seems if you order from them over the phone or online there's no restocking fee, but in store there is.

I still may settle for the 7t depending on the price of the McLaren, but I am definitely going to check it out
The 5g coverage is going to most likely be poor till mid year next year (even though tmo says end of this year) so to me, it doesn't seem worth it for that much money, potentially 999

You need to call 611 and complain about the restock fee because if tmo would have told you there was a 5g version coming out you would have waited.
Complain about the upgrade fee too. That's 20+50restock, 70 bucks you just got stolen!

Yup same here picked up my 7t on the 18th since they didn't have the 7 pro anymore. If I would have known that the 7t pro was coming I would have waited l'm sure am going to get hit with the restocking fee as will.

611 ended up agreeing to $25 of goodwill, but they wouldn't do the full amount. I'm on Jump, so I don't believe I have a $20 upgrade fee.
My company is covering the cost of my device, so the potentially high price of the 7T Pro doesn't really phase me.
I'm kinda confused about this. The three (UK) website seems to say that it is 5g ready as does John lewis'. However the specs on the OnePlus site seems to contradict this.
