T-Mobile Bad IMEI Financed with Tmobile - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

So my main question here is can I unlock this phone and use it with my Straight Talk ATT Sims card like I have in the past with other phones. They seller on eBay is stating that the phone does have a bad IMEI and is Financed with Tmobile. So does this stop this phone from being used with Pre Paid Carriers such as ATT or Straight Talk? I really want to use this phone but I do not want to buy a paper weight.

yes you can I went through the same thing...I can't remember if I got LTE or not but it will work.

Thanks so much for the fast reply next question did T-Mobile a few months later block your phone completely or are you (was you) able to continue using that phone? I do not wish to get "screwed" over if you know what I mean... I have had no issues with unlocking other devices and using my sims with them but this will be the first time I have tried with a device that has a bad IMEI. I guess if worst come to worst I have 14 days to send the device back for a full refund. I only need to test for a day to see if it can even be done. I do not see them blocking it once I unlock the device and port it to a new pre paid carrier. If anyone else has any other information or experiences I would very much appreciate the feedback!!!

It will not work. There is a national blacklist. Even if it does work, it won't for long.

what happened was that I bought a T Mo GN 2 off craigslist a month after it came out. I didn't know it was financed through the company so I got the phone activated with T-Mo. About a month later the phone had an X over the signal bar, So I called T-Mo and they said that the phone was blocked because it was financed through them and the seller didn't pay the bill. So I went through ST with a T- MO version of the sim card and the phone didn't work either. So I was like ok lets try the ST ATT Sim. And it worked ever since then. I think they only put it on the national blacklist if it was stolen. But I sold the phone last year and it was working on ATT Straight Talk service up until that point.

My IMEI got blocked by T-Mobile

I bought my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone off craigslist 2 months ago brand new in box as of Saturday my IMEI has been blocked. This must have been a stolen phone or something. Yeah I was really mad but oh well.. Any suggestions at this point?? Can I unlock it and sell it that way??
HOw did you get notified. And it's good to check esnimei before buying

sell it on eBay or craigslist. Yes you can unlock it first and list that as one of the features

I have one more piece of advice. Such a phone was probably stolen by a T-Mobile employee. Why not call and ask for the customer retention center? They can hook you up.
When I bought 2 s3s and switched my mom to my Hercules they jacked all the 32 and 64 gb cards. They know they are not paying their employees enough.
Insinuate you feel the phone was sold to you by a T-Mobile employee. extremely likely

I didn't get notified..At first I thought I did a bad flash or something because I wasn't getting signal through out the day so I back tracked on everything I did. I went back to stock and started the process over again to root and ect.. I was still not getting signal or data so the next day I called T-Mobile and asked was something wrong with my account they said no all paid and up to date then they asked for the IMEI# and then the T-Mobile rep said " Oh I see what the problem is your imei/phone is blocked. Then right away I knew this must have been reported stolen.

This guy knows nothing of what he is talking about! Your phone was blocked because someone bought the phone and split it into payments on their account! Most likely their account was cancelled or couldn't pay it, so they figured they would sell the phone to offset what they owe. Only only only way to get it unblocked is to get a hold of the seller and have him reactivate the account or pay off what ever they owe for the phone on the account. This is starting to happen a lot now! So much everyone be careful! Another thing also is the guy did an insurance claim and sold you the phone that was supposedly lost. I would hit up the guy! Good luck!
You can unlock it and sell it for people to use on any other GSM service but T-Mobile!

You may be right, however the OP is a paying customer who (hopefully) is in good standing with T-Mobile. If you have a _napkin_receipt (or invent one...) you could get with retention and email them your information.
OP, you made a purchase in good faith and hoped to pay for T-Mobile service in good faith. You want to continue paying T-Mobile and regardless if you were scammed, they could accommodate you.
Otherwise I would unlock the phone and try to sell it to a Wind subscriber. At least make a trade and get a decent phone in return, like a note. If you were honest with me and I was on Wind with a Note or GS2 or whatever they have, I would consider a trade.
You guys must think that T-Mobile is stupid, the invoices are all the same through all locations, and they track them and verify in their systems that the phone was paid. No way around, no matter what you do! You can call and cry and tell them you were ripped off! Phone will no get unblocked unless it shows in their system that the installment plan that was started on that device is paid off!

And that's why you don't upgrade through T-Mobile... If you want a phone it's cheaper to go to like Wal-Mart or some other store (Not Best Buy) pay it in full.. It's screwed up people screw other people over like this...

It don't matter how if he is in good standing with Tmobile, the phone he bought off the craigslist person account is not. That's what's scary about buying from CL. You can try to talk to customer Service, but I think you are screwed.
How i unblocked my imei from o2.
you may get lucky i had the same issue with o2, all i did was got lucky to be honest i unlocked the network and have since been useing a 3 sim works fine cheap to try like £1 so not breaking the bank if not try a few networks like vodafone as they dont piggyback from anyone so they may not get notified that your imei has been blocked.
It probably wasn't stolen but purchased on an EIP and never paid for.. stop buying phones on craigslist unless you have a receipt and proof that it's not on an EIP
that is what happens when you buy second hand, trying to save money cost you alot more than you think. you better find out if it is stolen, first off.
sell it to some developer or someone .. that way you could recover some money
sorry man but now you have an expensive media player. but I see many ppl trying to sell their phone with IMEI blocked.
help ASAP

Maybe legit, but keep in mind, alot of carrier employee's will steal phones, and those places are exactly where they can get rid of them, I have a friend that got burn twice....I told him stop looking on CL. Just becuase it is new in box, don't mean a damn thing. It may take 2-3mo for the carrier to do inventory, and bingo, that is when they will block it.
Ugh.. the chances of it being an employee are slim. The chances of it being a defaulted Value EIP are most likely.

Hey OP, what happened to this phone eventually? Did you get it to work? Do you know if it works on Straight Talk with Tmobile based SIM?
I am buying an S3 tomorrow off Craigslist and not sure what's is going to happen. I have a Tmobile based straight talk sim I don't know what happens when Tmobile blocks the IMEI does it affect the straight talk users too?

That's a BS from Best Buy Cellular Department - they will ALWAYS try ANYTHING to "activate" something.
I got the same crap at Best Buy, even when I told the BB personnel that the N7 have an UNLOCKED version. He said nope. So in front of him, I pulled my laptop, BOUGHT the N7 unlocked for store picked up. Showed to him, and LOUDLY told him what I did in front of other customer.
The look at his face - priceless...
PS: I am using the N7 LTE with T-Mobile SIM card. The SIM card was bought directly from T-Mobile website when they were selling it for $0.99.

Thank you! I thought it was kinda funny when it didnt say anything at all about activation on the websites checkout. Before we came to that step she asked me if I wanted to buy a case for it. I said " No, I hate to say this but your prices for cases are extremely high." She agreed with me. The guy she asked fr help looked at something on a a monitor and said that this versiong had an att chip. I said "But its unlocked." She said that the register wouldnt let her go any further. I told her would just go back home and order it from there. She said that was probably a good idea.

I had a little trouble with getting my N7 too. They kept asking me if I wanted to sign onto a plan, and I had to keep reminding them that the N7 LTE is an unlocked device. After hassling and almost 30 minutes bypassing some BS about activation, from the associate. I was able to get it. AFAIK, there is a way to get it, without having to activate a plan.
Just order from Bestbuy.com and choose store pick-up.
BB get commission for each activation, just like non-corporate cellphone stores, so they'll say anything to get you to sign-up.
And BB is wondering why they are losing against online retailer...
I must have been lucky. I didn't have to deal with the hard sell when I bought mine. I just showed them the SKU for the unlocked Nexus 7 LTE from my phone and told them I needed it for my T-mobile data sim and they just rang it up for me. They didn't even try to force the extended warranty on me once I told them I didn't want it.
I heard that the t mobile nexus 7 lte that just came out 11-20 has the bootloader already unlocked. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thankyou!

T-Mobile? Why bother with it? Just get the UNLOCKED N7 LTE. This is the SAME ONE as the ones sold by Google from Google Play. It's unlocked - SIM and bootloader.
I did as advised and I am happy. I purchased online and went back to the same store 65 miles away. I know that crazy but i am off this weekend and want to play with it. No muss , no fuss. In and out. Then drove back to my town and had it activated. Of course tmobile has an over sell too. They said they are adding a 2.5 gb plan for the first month for free and then i can cancel. So I figured yea what the hell I have enough sense to cancel a plan. Thats what calendars are for. Plus the one day wait allowed me to cath it on sale for 319. So maybe I broke even on the gas. Thanks for the great advice!

I haven't heard of one coming unlocked from the factory, but it's very easy to unlock it yourself. You can use WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit, or as I do it, use "fastboot oem unlock" from a command line (once you have fastboot downloaded and the proper drivers installed).
Note that unlocking wipes all user data...

Help Bad Esn Verizon Note 4 on T-mobile.

i bought this Verizon note 4 from craigslist to use on t-mobile network when i bought it i checked it and tmobile lte worked perfectly as the phone was factory unlocked and esn was clean for verizon. so i thought it was a good deal.
but now the seller has reported it lost or stolen and the phone is no more accepting t-mobile simcard and its getting no signal.
pls help what can i do i don't care about bad esn on verizon network i just want to use it on t-mobile.
Find the seller and beat the **** out of him?
2nd thread I've seen on here about this happening if dealing with Craigslist you need to meet at the carrier location have both parties sign in and let a rep do the switch , well in your case let a rep verify the imei. That way you have some type of record somewhere with just handing a no name stranger your money it's pretty much nothing you can do.if you know him report it but honestly I don't think it's much you can do besides use it as a WiFi device
I tried contacting seller but his phone is disconnected.
So now i found the listing on ebay which promises to make bad esn into clean esn in $50 . I purchased it and it did work now the imei is clean i checked it on verizon website and swappa . But it is still not accepting signal from t-mobile . But it works fine with verizon sim
was it a white note 4 or a black note 4 cuz I lost mine recently and want my pictures back. I'm very curious if this could be my phone. If it is white please provide the last 5 of esn for comparison.

Where was this listing? Do you have a link please? I'm having the same problem. :/
Craigslist. That place just f*cks my blood pressure up.
God forbid you try and sell electronics on there. I have used it to sell a phone and tablet, but these countless scammers Kill me.
"I'm in the military overseas and want to buy this for my brother. I will pay you double to ship it just send your paypal info"
People really fall for that?
When buying from Craigslist ask for the receipt to show it's paid in full. Some people will finance it and sell it, then stop payment leaving you with a brick.
Ask for a bill of sale with their name and ID number. (protection from insurance scams)
Check if the phone is a counterfiet! (i still don't know how to spot these, hopefully others can add that).
I've answered to a dozen ads in the last few weeks hoping to score a tmo variant and as soon as i mentioned the receipt and bill of sale the seller stops replying. That just tells you how rampant scams are!

What good would the receipt do? I can show you that I purchased my device 10 months ago from Verizon for the contract price but got my normal upgrade and am now selling this one. In fact, I just listed my note 3 on craigslist after a note 4 just showed up 10 months after I purchased the note 3. And 10 months from now, I will get a note 5.

Half of my requests for a receipt resulted in no replies from the seller while the other half admitted that the still owe money on the phone, so it has worked for me.
Do you have some solutions to offer or are you just a scammer here trying to plant the seeds of doubt.

I'm having a same problem. I purchase a note4 from Ebay seller (rodomin1016)to use on Tmobile.
the note4 works good for over 3 months, now I'm getting "not register on a network" I cantact Tmobile Techsupport.
they said the imei number was black listed and there's nothing they can do unless the previous owner pay for the bills. I think the place you paid $50 to have imei repair did not do anything for you, if the imei was repaired then you should be able to use it on Tmobile.
I think there's a way to change the imei number after rooting it.. I'm not sure if talking about stuff like this is allowed on here though and I apologize if it isn't!

Which One Should I Buy?

I'm considering buying a Verizon Galaxy S8+ or the unlocked Samsung U.S. version, which one would be the better option? I like Verizon's service but want the option to choose other service providers.
Verizon is unlocked out of the box, and if you really wanted to you could flash the unlocked firmware. That's what I did, but it really depends on price I guess. Get whichever is cheaper, it's the same phone anyways.

I'm considering buying a Verizon Galaxy S8+ or the unlocked Samsung U.S. version, which one would be the better option? I like Verizon's service but want the option to choose other service providers.

Seems like it's too late but the Verizon S8 & S8+ won't get activated on Sprint. If you're not planning on ever switching to Sprint, then you're fine.

Buahaha! So true!
Not sure if you saw this, but there's a pretty good deal on the Samsung Store that I saw last night.

You can get $200 off with any trade in, so basically get a $20 walmart phone and you get $200 back. I'd go with that if it's not too late, or $250 off the Verizon one only.

Question, did the box containing the phone come in a sealed box from Samsung?

I bought it off swappa. The guy I bought it from said that he purchased it from samsung brand new un opened. I contacted the seller last week because I wanted to see if he still had the receipt. At the time he was on vacation but is back now. I sent him another email this morning and asked him to look for it. He replied and told me that he would try to find it, a few hours goes by and he emails me back and said that he couldn't find the receipt. Which makes me think he is lying. Why do you ask if the box was sealed?

I'm still thinking about selling my s8+, but I'm afraid if I do that's when root will be established. My luck....

I ordered a Verizon 8+ phone from Samsung and the box didn't have any seals on it. I work with a guy who brought his phone from Sprint and his box had 2 seals on it.
The phone you purchased might be under contract with a service provider.

What? It better not be. Are you familiar with swappa? I'm pretty sure that if it was under contract swappa wouldn't have let this phone be sold on there website.

I'm 100% that this device isn't under contract because I'm the one who activated it.

It's just that there have been a quite a few horror stories posted about dealings with Swappa.
On other note, I will never buy from Samsung.com again, it's BestBuy for me. I'm still waiting on a return label from them and it's been over 2 weeks!!!

Wow. I'm really hopping the guy I bought this thing from finds the receipt for this phone. But something is telling me that he's either not the original owner or he didn't buy it new. I will no soon if he's telling me the truth or not. If I paid over 700 bucks for something, I do believe I would know exactly were the receipt was. And if I sold someone something brand new I would give them the receipt in case he/she had problems with what ever they purchased. And then again he could have simply lost it or threw it away and keeps putting me off afraid that I will catch him in a lie.

@Muffycheeks I googled what you were talking about and the only thing I found was a seller sold a phone with a bad esn but the buyer knew it was bad and bought it anyway, before swappa could pull the listing. Link me some of the horror stories that you're talking about through instant message. I'm very interested in seeing this!

Well these kinda things happen to people that doesn't know what types of questions to ask. People has to have some common sense. Do you think for 1 second that I would pay any amount of money for something without first asking 101 questions.

Got scammed into buying a stolen phone. What to do now?

I bought a T-Mobile S9 from a guy on Offerup. We met up at a T-Mobile store and when I bought the phone last Sunday the IMEI checked good. I used the phone for few days and all of a sudden yesterday I got a message saying the phone is blocked on T-Mobile network. So I called T-mobile and told them what happened and their response was this phone has been reported lost or stolen. Now I'm stuck with a brick that I paid $500 for. Is there anyway to salvage this so this can be unlocked and be used on any other network? Any help will be much appreciated.

They charged me $35 to unblacklist a phone. They assured me that no remote access to my computer was necessary. About half way through the process the tech asks me to install teamviewer to which I replied I would like a refund because I was told no access to my computer was necessary and if teamviewer was involved I'd rather have my money back. The tech responded "Hope you like using stolen credit cards!" and then he said "Now get the F*** out of here". I tried texting their phone number and when i asked for customer service they responded by texting me a number to a sex hot-line. Paypal eventually refunded me but 100% total scam. DO NOT TRUST THEM.

IMEIs are blacklisted by the carrier, 3rd party cannot unblock the original IMEI (Source: friend works for EE carrier)

Well, this will be my last comment in this thread. It's not illegal to repair your imei as long as you're NOT cloning another phone that is in service by someone else or to fraudulently get wireless service.
Anyways... this is a gray area, and everything seems vague about the rules. And you are right about the international sales. It is a pain tho.

It's a SCAM. If it has been blacklisted, that is it.

Which means this is a stolen phone and will not be discussed on XDA
Press charges on the individual who sold it to you as you should have a receipt of sale
To all the others discussing IMEI changing...This will not happen on XDA and no more of it thats that
