HTC One X - HTC's New Hero Device! Mega Information Thread
I had a HOx for a few weeks and he has valid points. I showed friends the pictures I took with the HOX and they all said my HTC Incredible S took better pictures than the HOX. It was on latest 1.29 firmware.
And not only the videos are choppy, the whole UI experience is choppy, like 20fps. It is really depressed to see that the hava a full GPU, quad core power and android 4 and STILL aren't able to manage a smooth scrollinge experience (like iphone scrolling). And I know people see this but choose to ignore it, game menus scroll smooth but the actual OS lags...
edit: I had 3 HOXes, the all act the same (hardware issues ignored)

But to sum at that huge thread, I'd say it like this;
If you get a fault-free one, it's a fantastic phone.
BUT....your chances of getting a fault-free phone are much less than they should be.
If you want to take part in the HTC One X crap-shoot, please be prepared to pursue HTC with warranty returns until they get it right. Do not unlock bootloader until you are happy with it!

Agreed I got a perfect hox and it such a good phone, it sucks that most come out doa. Take a look at the best picture you've taken you can get extremely good pictures from it, most people just point and shoot which doesn't give any camera justice.

From my experience with sgs2, we had plenty of complaints about it. but boy the complaints list on this HOX are by far more.

thx for ur reply m8, how is there batch date, or serial sequence to decide the goodness of the device? I want to check before taking it home
I didn't feel like listening to 15 minutes "whining" but compared to the sgs2 I got when it was out the hox actually already is pretty good, battery life is as good as the sgs2 after a year, no screen defects/flickering. I only have one issue though it could be considered quite a big issue and I really hope it's a software issue and it is that the sim card isn't recognised anymore and consequently the hox stops working as a phone until I reenter the pin
all in all, The HOX is bit of hit an miss. am I right ?
No, it's the best (smart)phone I ever had, I love this phone much more even than my Desire.

The One X is a fantastic device and you're MUCH more likely to get a working version than a faulty one. The only reason it LOOKS like there are loads of faulty ones is because people who have a fully functional, working device don't start threads complaining about it

Also, as this is a developers forum, people who have faulty devices are going to stumble across devices to try and find a fix. The problems aren't any way near as widespread as it seems.
Of course, defective devices shouldn't be reaching customers at all, but there's nothing you can do about that I'm afraid

After optimising and disabling some apps that were sucking my battery down (which was my main gripe about this phone) I am more than happy with the HOX. The camera is sweet, games/emu's run great and the screen (even on 25% brightness) pops out. Well worth a purchase.
you can not go wrong with this phone mate. best option is to find a store close by to you which you can go and check the phone for yourself before taking it away with you. explain your fears to the sales assistant and see what they say and if they let you inspect it. but anyways if you get a perfect one you are in business and you could not ask for a better phone. i really hope development picks up more in our forums as this deserves nothing but the best.
s3 is another top handset but i feel there is more to the one x. development for the s3 will be huge. but think about this.
you are using Touchwiz and you are thinking man this is ugly. you want to change it but you get fed up with the launchers as well. you wish you could try sense but you can not as it is hard to port to a sammy phone and second no one has done that. were on the One X not only you have sense but we have now cm9 and you can use Touchwiz launcher as well. so you are getting yourself a beast of a phone mate

I think some people have good luck and some have bad. I've had mine for more than a week and it's perfect. However, I've accompanied someone to collect a replacement for a faulty unit. Guess what, went back home to charge and the red light is not showing on the replacement unit. I've also heard a lot of complaints ranging from battery not charging, unit not turning on, squeaky phone edges.
If quality control doesn't improve soon, and with all the SG3 hype, One X might find itself sliding down a slippery slope.

take me as an example I was about to buy one, but now I have to do a masters degree in understanding/avoiding the faults which can come with it

If its the former we need to get a PSA going about how great the phone is so people buy more, if its the latter I suppose we should just wait...

Oh the pressure!
It's new and in the US here its only available on one carrier and most people are waiting on the M9 flagship phone. We also don't have s-off so we cant do any fun mods really. Honestly it's a M8 in plastic with water proofing and different cameras so its nothing groundbreaking. I wouldnt expect much out of this fourm

Yes, it's almost M8, so it would be pretty easy to port some M8 ROMs to the EYE, GPE ROM for example. I would do that if I had any tutorials. But I haven't found any.
Im waiting also on some custom rom,but nobody take care till now about this device.I will try to ask Venom team cos they make the best custom roms.

I wouldnt say it's easy by any means especially since most HTC Devs on this site do not own the device and with the different cameras come different drivers it makes things harder.

Yeah I thought the same thing but for the moment in my option, due to the fact that it is an At&t exculsive it will take some time before people outside this carrier obtains it. Unless, you are like me and decided to purchase it unlocked; which is not a bad idea if you ask me. Additionally, since this phone is new and HTC has promised that it will be supporting devices like the M8,Desire EYE and new devices with updates and fixes for the next 2 years I personally will not be bothered with rooting my device. Besides, we are soon due to get Android 5.0 directly from the source so why not wait and enjoy the direct updates from HTC because after 2.5 years we will be on our own.
After 2 years, which I would most likely still have it in excellent order will then decide to root it and add a custom rom on it.
But dont worry, you are not alone in buying this phone. It is an amazing device that in more cases than one is much better,on the same spec stage and cheaper than the M8.
I recently received my desire eye. I won it on HTC elevate though. Awesome program. But I see that it isn't a very popular option. Since I'm on Verizon mine will be used mostly as a WiFi device. I can day that once lollipop gets here you will really like it. Dttw works perfectly

Yes this is an absolutely amazing phone, I had a Moto X, then tried WinMo with the Nokia 930 and then went to thi, its the best phone ive ever owned, brilliant performance, great battery life, awesome connectivity, the only downside could be its physical size, not a problem for a big guy like myself but if you have small hands and small pockets you wont find this phone easy to use.

I am thinking of purchasing a One M9 but not really sure yet. I need you guys, owners of this beauty, to convince me why I should or why I should not get it. I have had a M8 before it got stolen from me and I absolutely loved it, it was the best device I owned and I still miss it after a year. I now have a OnePlus One but the M9 is so tempting..please share all your thoughts/experiences with the M9 and help me decide! I've read a lot of reviews and threads here on XDA but some were really old and most of the issues in there that disturbed me got fixed, such as overheating etc (I believe).

I still think it holds true today. If you loved the M8 and aren't expecting the M9 to be vastly different, you'll really love the M9. I'd occasionally get lag with the M8 and the camera was not great. M9 fixed those issues for me. Battery life on M9 might not (PROBABLY ISN'T) as good, but it's good enough for me.

EDIT: Is there a full guide for rooting, getting S-Off, updating firmware and such things? I know it's kinda tricky with the CIDs and all those things..kinda out of the loop after a year of not owning a HTC device.
EDIT2: Will I be able to relock & regain warranty if I unlock the device with Sunshine rather than HTCDev? Or is there another way to do this?

Yeah, there are a few guides floating around in the general section. It's not hard, especially if you're planning to S-off. Right now, you have to unlock through HTC dev, then root, then S-off with sunshine. It's no longer possible for sunshine to temp root so you can S-off before you unlock the boot loader.
I went from the M7 to the M9 and couldn't love this phone any more. If you liked the M8, you should like the M9 as long as you're not expecting a big jump in performance. I looked at the M8 and it left me cold, but the tweaks on this version convinced me.
I looked at the OPO and concluded I didn't want such a big phone. I'm not sure you'll notice a difference in performance as the specs are pretty similar.
If you get it, it's worth going s-off and updating to the latest firmware, which fixes the problems people have complained about. There are charging and throttling issues on earlier firmware.

+1 the M9 is a fantastic replacement for the M7, and if you loved the M8 then its a no brainer
coming from OPO to M9, at first M9 felt so small(I hated big phones before OPO). But actually 5 inch is the best size..one hand operation is possible again.
m9 feels absolutely premium compared to OPO.
m9 had many many issues when it was launched. but after firmware updates, they all are fixed.
battery wise i can say it is at par with OPO now with custom ROM installed. i get a very decent SOT.
camera has potential to get very good clicks.
audio quality through headphones is also good compared to OPO output.
go for m9 if you like its premium looks, a smaller and perfect screen size, far better customer service.

Thanks, I was looking forward to a review from a OPO owner. I am waiting for another week to see what the OP2 has to offer but mostly likely I'm going for the M9, we will see soon enough!

Having owned HTC devices starting with the TyTNII to HD2, Inspire, M7 and now M9, I have become very comfortable with Sense. That, along with HTC's superior build quality make me very reluctant to jump ship. I found the GS6 to feel less than robust, despite their dramatic leap in construction quality - it still just didn't feel like a premium phone, and their interface is still obtuse. Also, if you plan on running Xposed for mods such as Xprivacy, the M9 definitely makes that easier.
I know that HTC is the phone company that phone fanboys love to hate. It seems they've become the industry's whipping horse and focus of a lot of criticism, some of which is well deserved, such as the camera lacking OIS and perhaps not having the software ready for release. Other criticism is not well deserved, and I wonder if those same people who comment about the "recycled design" would say the same thing about a Porsche 911 which hasn't changed much in terms of general styling for decades. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Anyway, I'm thrilled with this phone now with the latest firmware and LP5.1 and I'm sure you'd be very happy with it based on your previous experience.

I agree with everything Mr. Cat just said, but will add that for the price the M9 is selling for on Swappa should make it extra enticing. New - resale AT&T model for $445. sheesh.

Poor first impressions have really hurt it.
If you still had an m8 id say keep it and wait for the m9 to drop in price but seeing as it got swiped by some sticky fingered turd the m9 is a good fast device but the screen is crap, the camera is mediocre and the heat issues are serious.
I use waze while driving and the phone bakes to the point where its difficult to keep hold of it for more than a minute or two (when the journey has finished!).

I come from the OPO and I have never loved a device so much... (im talking about the opo). Only reason I switched was cuz I randomly started getting touchscreen issues with my OPO, I'm a fast typer so I couldn't deal with it anymore and nothing got it fixed. Sold it and got this phone, the M9. I did have my OPO for about six months so I can actually talk about it.
Battery is not nearly as good as the OPO in my opinion. I always had 5-7 on screen time, I now barely get 3.5... Aside from that I can't complain about performance, but development here is not as big as the OPO, there were some big things on that forum boy let me tell you. I'm not as happy as I was with the OPO, but this is not a bad phone, don't get me wrong.

Development here will pick up if/when the CM team gets the camera and a few of the other kinks worked out. Most of the main sense developers are already here, but AOSP was always going to be a slow process.

A completely open environment like Nexus or OPO, especially one that launches with CM, is always going to have more development going on than a proprietary one. Development for the M9 could be better, but it's comparable to other flagship phones right now.
Now with the OnePlus 2 being launched I'm even more confused. I don't mind the "slow" development as I will be using ARHD if I get the M9..or maybe a new ROM when CM comes for the M9. Gonna wait a little more and see what convinces me more but I find the M9 more attractive

G6 seems like a great phone but no root for the dual sim version.

DJ. I'm in the same position so can def help you. I bought the G6 over the HTC simply because the G6 looked good and I thought the thing would eventually get unlocked and we'd have all kinds of custom rooms, etc but nothing just lots of crickets. The phone looks good but without root and roms it gets boring very fast.
I'm in the process of getting the HTC plus cash for the G6 . The HTC has great support and endless roms, trust me go for the HTC.

Also the screen size may be an issue, the HTC screen is bit small but looks mind-blowing.
Sorry but why get the HTC 10? The u11 will be getting viper. Getting the 10 makes no sense.

So long as as money isnt' a problem there is only one logical choice, otherwise why not just get an M9? Or an M8?
The increment in speed alone is reason enough to get it, plus the new feature set if thats your thing, form factor is subjective so each to their own, but on raw specs and what it can give there is only one clear winner.
Nothing wrong with the HTC 10 it's a great phone, i'm selling mine shortly myself though, 1+5

I do not agree. The 10 is a much superior device than the M8 and M9, or HTC Hero :silly:

Phone size is a big factor for some people, camera performance too. But if customization is all you want then you already know the answer.

Actually the real question is why would you suggest a phone that wasn't even under consideration by the OP? We don't know why those are the only phones that are to be chosen between, and to suggest something that is almost double the price mentioned, that it "makes no sense" to not go with the 11, makes, well, no sense really.

It makes sense to me. Buying a last gen phone does not. LG G6 perhaps but development will be lacklustre, I suggested it because it DOES make sense and it is what I would do, either that or the one plus five which I've just bought about two hours ago.
Do what you will op you have my two cents.
Now I must be gone because the mediocrity of this thread and it's responses hath caused me to obtain Forrest Whittaker eye and I fear it may be permanent should I remain.. eth.

I would get the One Plus 5 if I were in your position. Love the 10 won't get rid of it until it breaks or I get bored of it.

I got my HTC 10 2months ago. LG G6 was the other phone I was considering. Eventually I picked the HTC, because I wanted a compact device with capacitive buttons and fingerprint scanner on the front. So it's mainly due to the usability concerns. Also the $200 price gap between the HTC and LG (DS version with DAC which I was considering) mattered.
I don't think that the speed difference would be noticeable in the daily use. The HTC's camera is on pair. LG has double back lens, but HTC has rear OIS which is nice.
I am happy with my choose. The only thing that is making me wonder is that it's getting a little to hot a little too fast (can get to 37* C during nornal use, just by browsing the web with Opera). My old Samsung Note 3 wasn't getting as hot. Other than that I have no complains.

So long as as money isnt' a problem there is only one logical choice, otherwise why not just get an M9? Or an M8?
The increment in speed alone is reason enough to get it, plus the new feature set if thats your thing, form factor is subjective so each to their own, but on raw specs and what it can give there is only one clear winner.

Not a fan of the all glass body on the U11, and I expect the constant polling of the side sensors will affect battery drain. Also, If the sensors get out of whack they could be triggered by simply putting the phone in your pocket i.e. too sensitive. The HTC 10 is a well made phone. Build quality is excellent. Keeping my 10 as a backup phone, and getting a US unlocked, dual sim, 1+5.

Two phone numbers on the same phone is pretty cool.
I have a HTC-10 which I purchased second hand for a family member, it has been rooted and I installed LineageOS on it, apart from that I haven't used it all that much but compared to my Nexus 6P my initial thoughts are
Pros:
HTC-10 feels a little faster
Memory card slot
Cons:
Too small (personal preference I guess but I welcome the extra screen real-estate)
Not all stock features are supported in custom ROMs (for example slow motion video)
the speakers aren't as loud as the 6P,
The home button seems to have a slight delay between pressing and registering
The fingerprint sensor is in a terrible spot
I was looking at a LG G6 but the lack of community support means it's not an option for me.
I couldn't recommend either of them really... I'd find it hard pressed to recommend any phone at the moment (I am particular)

Have the 1+5 in my hand, got it today, don't know what all the bad reviews are about, it's a beast.
Selling my HTC 10 now Cheap I want rid of it.
U11 feels too plastic for me compared to the 10, my 10 on Leedroid is very fast, never had an issue, great sound, good camera etc. Going to look at LG V30 when it comes out, 10 will take some beating. I've dropped it 4 times and still looks awesome
I wouldn't buy the u11.
It's too big for me. and that is a big factor. Sure, I'd get used to it, but I want to use the device with 1 hand. The 10 I can still do this, the u11, I wouldn't. Also, a lot of wasted space that I hate. Samsung is winning in that perspective.
I don't like the plastic nor the missing headphone jack, either. I want these things, like the IR blaster, I miss that.
If I was to break my htc 10 tmw, and I do have enough $$ to get the u11 outright, I'd still buy a used 10 off swappa.
Also.. Verizon.. Doesn't have full support, is my understanding, which for that $$, I want.. and need.

I'm currently running an HTC One M8 and it's on its last dying breath. I'm looking for something to replace it in the 200-300$ with and isn't really impressed by the Build quality and design of anything TBH. (the Nokia 7 plus seems like the best option from the new ones so far). so I had the idea of looking for old flagships instead and remembered how much I wanted to have the 10 back when it came out. looking around I'm seeing it being sold anywhere from 150 to 300$ new.
Here's my Question, how is the 10 holding up in 2019, do the specs have any life in them? are the heating and the battery still a problem or not? and if you Do recommend it would it make sense to get a new one or used?
(sorry if this is the wrong place make this post, I looked around and this seemed like the most logical place)

New or used doesn't make much difference, most devices are at least 2 years old and either used or on a shelve in a box. My advice, look for another device with more or better battery capacity. Although i truly love my htc10 which i will continue to use for at least another 6-9 months and maybe longer i would advice now to look for a different device.
A year / a year and a half ago my advice would be very different

Good point, I'm currently looking into the Poco f1 but I'm a bit worried about the build quality since the last Xioami phone I got failed on my quite terribly within the first year. also going from metal to plastic will probably be big downgrade...

You may want to consider the u11 as well, as they sometimes go for 300$ which appears to be in your budget.

If you are worried about build quality of the Poco, check out the Mi8 Lite. It is all glass with aluminum edge. Just picked oneup last week Love it so far, with the exception of having to wait 15 days before the bootloader can be unlocked.

the Average price for one seems to be 375 and the cheapest deal I've found was 325$, will keep it in mind though.

Not a fan of glass backs or No 3.5 jacks. the specs are close to the Nokia 7 plus. which I would probably choose over it due to the mentioned reasons and it being Andriod one.

I was strongly considering the Nokia 7 to tide me over until the U13/Pixel/Oneplus7 get revealed, but then crossed it off my list after reading multiple people having issues with horribly slow fingerprint unlock on the latest software.

I found a decent deal on a U11 for 330 Canadian dollars, which is around 250usd. That's why I was mentioning it.
Im in the exact same situation atm and i just cant find any new phone that i would buy. Sure there are some nice phones but there is always something i really dislike about them. I am on my scratched m8 with dying battery and it continues to just annoy me. I also want to be on the newest android but than there are so many bugs and features like nfc pay just dont work.
I thought about a htc 10 cause i really liked htcs phones (Had the HD2 and the One Mini and loved both aswell as the m8). I think the 10 was the last good phone htc made so i dont like the u11.
Idk maybe the 10 isnt that bad of an idea...

the HTC 10 is only good if you find one with a good battery. I have problems that the battery drowns very fast and random shutdowns when I'm under 40% or so and open the camera.
