Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Hii to all new xpera xa1 ultra owners and Hii to all of you reading this and want to buy the phone
Well, I give to it a 5 star
Why?
I have had a lot of phones, this one gives me when I hold it the WoW effect..
Yes it looks good, it feels premium and it is good.
But, you will get a very, very good phone all over all..
BUT, there is a overall bad thing..
Just google or even search on xda..the hole xperia X series has NOT or POOR custom rom support
That means..overall love its ok and very good phone but if you like to flash roms.. don't buy it..
The only xperia from the X series wich got sort of rom support is the Xperia X performace one..
That means....if you want even any sony phone
Look first and I mean FIRST on the official sony bootloader unlock page..
If that model is unlockable..
If not..dont evan go for that too...
It must be able from sony to get bootloader unlocked...
After that google and search on XDA for your phone..not only for xperia..
If it has good roms..
IF not..buy LG, Buy Pixel.. or what ever has support on xda..
I got this phone but I did not do this research..
Now I am stuck and can not even have root..
My bootloader is locked..
That means I am stuck with all stock not to flash anything..
Even no ROOT..
I like to flash..so this makes me dissapointed a bit..
The only workarround is to change allways to different launchers if you like to change
the looks..but if something to tweak..or need root access you will not have it..
But that still does not change my feelings to give this phone 5 star..
Thanks for reading
Hope it helped someone

Sony should done proper QA on the Canadian version of this phone. It is plague with tons of bugs which rander the phone usless.

Great at first , problems now.
I purchased my US version Xperia XA1 about 5 months ago , new from Best Buy. There are several reasons to like the Xperia. 1. Large bright sharp screen , 2. Good speed, 3. Plenty of storage , 4. Good battery life. I really liked this phone before the recent (3) Sony updates. Now my touch screen stops working from time to time, a quick screen off and on works to solve the problem. The worst is now when I take a call and hold the phone to my ear the screen does not go off. So my ear touching the screen launches system setting and apps. CRAZY when you finish the call you have to close everything. Another gripe is that the updates are not past Android 7.0, one would think that on such a new phone that the past three updates would be at least 7.1. Other minor issues are surprisingly the camera quality. It is very hit and miss depending on the light and if you use advance settings. For quick shots the photos are just okay to just plain bad. The video recording is not bad but the audio levels in the recording are low. The prices have dropped quite a lot since I purchased my Sony but I would not buy it again if I had a do-over.

[Q] Arc S vs LG Optimus 2X

Hey XDA. Right now, i have a LG O2X, just turning a year old. My dad just orderd an arc s for a small price. He really doesnt care what phone it is, he just wants to go read the news on the fly.
So, should i choose the Arc? Btw, my mom has a pair of livesound headphones laying around.
So:
Arc S:
Better screen?
Fully working ics
Sleek
Good headphones
but:
Slower
not so much for gaming.
viewing angles?
LG:
Fast with custom rom ( using temasek kang):
Good screen?
but:
thick, heavy
not much support from nvidia.
What would you choose?
I listen to music for about 1.5-2 hours per day while surfing the web on 3G. I play occasionally.
I think you're asking this in the wrong place... Most of us will prefer the ARC, since we have it...
Anyway...
The ARC community works really hard and we always have updates and improved roms here... I'm to a point where I flash a new rom, kernel, bb every week... Because of that, the phone gets better everyday, so I don't think it's drastically slower... You can always OC it too... The ARC S with DOOM's kernel you can go up to 2ghz... And still get good battery life... Just to know, my 7 home screen on ICS are full of widgets (I don't keep icons or anything else on them)... I keep 4 e-mail accounts with the sinc on the whole day, a twitter account with the updates for every 5 minutes, a facebook account every 30 minutes, samething with LinkedIn and G+... I listen to music for 2h-2h30 everyday, Around 3h/4h of calls and I still get a whole 24h on my battery...
Right now I have ICElite by zdzihu and it's great... It's still a bit laggy, but I'm sure they're working to fix it... I also had Arconium which was a great ROM and many other MIUIs that had a perfect smooth experience... Still, ICS is great to work, the UI is the best I've seen up to now...
The screen is great and the design of the phone is top!!! It fits on your hand perfectly... Everywhere I go, people who are not much into phones ask me what phone it is... I just love it...
I will need a separate phone for work in June and I'm really thinking about getting an ARC S and have two ARCs...
For reference, I always check Engadget for these questions and I think they have a post about the two phones...
I hope I helped...
Cheers!!!
I would like to say, SE Xperia Arc S, is not worth the price.
Just like all the other Sony handsets released with out-dated specs, they only work with because of their magnificent looks.
I own an Arc S, it dint proved powerful. 1.4Ghz is no upto mark.
The phone calling feature in Stock Rom itself is very slow, it doesn't respond quick and the SE interface is comparative slow. Tried many custom Launchers, but when returning back to home, it was lagging.
My previous phones have been HTC WF, WFS, Evo 4g, I would say they worked quite well with the specs they had.
One more thing I have noticed in Arc S, the applications quickly close while multitasking. E.g. Using Browser and Opera Mobile simultaneously, one of them closes, and this din't happened with Evo 4G, also, Market and Opera dint go well.
I have expressed cons above.
The Pros,
Really awesome display. Though, AMOLED was much richer, I liked the display.
If you are going to choose custom ROMs, the phone Rocks. Just as mariolcneto said, many mods are available which makes the phone even better. But, its upto you, if you want to customize, root, the phone, the phone will provide you everything.
Camera is quiet reliable, but the best part is, its too quick to shoot. Very quick indeed.
Sound quality is promising.
LG O2X, is quiet powerful, lacks the community support though.
Choose the phone according to your needs.
All the best.
Well, you can try your dad's phone(if he lets you ).
I prefer Arc, although it is slower(definitely not slow, but a bit slower than the 2X).
Arc has larger and better screen than the 2X. Arc has better camera also.
On the other hand, 2X is faster/better performance. And I believe the community is a bit larger(although Arc has a load of roms/tweaks/themes)
When I bought my Arc S, my second alternative was 2X, but I were so excited of the Arc's screen, and here we are.
Hard decision to make, but if you're gonna buy Arc, buy Arc S instead of the older Arc(1.4GHz vs 1GHz)
Thank you all for sharing. I also posted the question on the O2X forums. It seems that i am confused.
Hmm, yes indeed the LG is fast, but my mother has a Ray, and it is not considerably slower :S
As of the community, i think the O2X has a bigger one, but there is no support from nVidia.(Or LG, (LeakedROM)). Therefor the Arc S i think is a better choice when looking at it like that.
ArmorD - He ordered an Arc S
I the end, i think i will let him choose, makes my decision more easy
Oh, and by the way, the Arc has a bigger resolution. 854x480 vs 800v480
Again, thank you!

[Q] Need advice from you Art Owners.

Hi all,
I am currently using an Xperia X10, with unlocked bootloader and a custom rom. Does almost everything i need from a phone, but it can always be faster and better right
Today i stumbled upon a nice offer with an Xperia Arc S. I can also choose a samsung galaxy s plus..
So i have a few questions for you guys:
Do you recommend the arc s? I really like SE for it's build quality and excellent camera. So the samsung is out i think . PLus the Arc S having Android 4.0.
Is the Arc S nicely build?
Battery life? (xperia x10 has 1500mah, but with custom rom it gets trough the day with ease)
I will almost certainly do the same with it as i did with my x10 : rooting the phone and tweak it. So is the arc S an easy phone to edit and root? Are there some nice ICS roms for it? (of course there are )
How about performance? i know it is not the best phone on the market, you could even call it an "older" model. Adreno 205 is a good GPU isn't it?
And is the camera really as good as Sony claims it is? Yeah i am not comparing it to my dslr (SonyD) Alpha A500), but can you make some nice pictures with it.
Or should i just pay a bit more and go for Xperia S
I have been using my x10 for 2 years now, don't know if i will do the same with the arc S. But the offer is so good that i could even sell the phone and still don't pay more than with my current Sim-Only.
I hope i get some answers from you guys. Information from users is much more valuable than everything i read on the net. Reviews are generally pretty positive.
Greets, and thanks in advance
I would go for the Xperia S personally, the arc is great but the lack of RAM and memory make it often frustrating to use. Multitasking is a pain because you'll find that you leave an app, come back to it and it will have closed most annoying on the browser. Also once you install a decent amount of apps on it you do start to notice it lag.
It is a great phone, as long as you're a light user. Going back to my arc from my Xperia S you do notice this more. That said it is a good update from the X10 which is very sluggish with 2.3, but if you want something much better and more future proof I would recommend at least a phone with 1GB RAM and a dualcore processor.
I don't have an arc s, I have an arc. I previously used an x10 though and the arc is worlds better (even with similar specs). The rom community for the arc is also very active so you'll likely find exactly what you need for your usage.
That said, adsada is right; if you can swing it I would get a newer xperia phone, but if the deal on the arc s really is a good one I can't see any reason not to grab it. Just expect to use your phone like a phone, not a computer
if u buy arc s you are going 10 months behind with u see the config..but the looks are still futuristic..one of the best looking phone. but only drawback is its RAM..if u want your phone to survive jelly beans load and want to stick to it atleast for 1-1.5 years then i think your btr go for xperia s..
i have 3 smartphones..i see my defy as a rough & tough man..i see my SGS2 as a big corporate man with suit blazers..but when i see my arc s i see her as a sexy victoria secret model ..
BTW this is general section...Questions should go into Q & A section..
The build quality is good.
The battery life...hmmmmm.. I am still waiting for the phone that last more than 1 day in heavy use. Still, with the right ROM and settings, it lasts about 10h (and by heavy duty I mean HEAVY DUTY, used at least 6h out of 10 - music, internet (data), gaming, etc)
Camera is good. I had nothing to complain about.
The RAM and internal memory is indeed a drawback. Still, some workarounds can be found with the right ROM and app configurations.
If you want it mainly for the design.. go for it, it is great!
If you are more interested in force than in beauty... go for Xperia S.
Thanks for the answers.
Yeah the offer is pretty nice, but i think i will wait a bit and buy something a bit more high performance.
Looks of the Art S are the best though, i really think there isn't a better looking phone on the market right now.
Lack of Ram is something the X10 has too. Really irritating sometimes, but after some modding you can run it pretty fast.
But i really like to tweak things, and i like technically advanced stuff. So it is probably better to buy something different.
Don't know if i stay with sony though.. Samsung galaxy S2 is getting a lot cheaper fast here. So that probably is a lot value for many. I hate touchwich, so that one will be modded for sure
i have an Arc S, to be honest i prefer the Galaxy. Arc S is good but when it comes to updates i think ICS will be the last update this phone will ever taste (porting will help but some stuff might not work)
maybe newer ver of android requires a bigger memory (RAM) ICS is kinda slow on this phone but Modding helps speed it up.
im an arc user also..
work in a mobile section been exploring all high end phones
just my own opinion and what ive experience
sony - camera / visual(your screen) / audio
those criteria sony will have great advantage towards other brands
but speed xperia s dual core old architecture cpu,
s4 dual core phones will swallow it alive
im planning also to change my phone maybe other brand
i used my arc for almost a year now and the ram just cant handle it
got an Samsung Galaxy S2 and an Sony Arc S. have to say, the RAM on the Arc is really a problem, but the camera is way better than on the Samsung :-D
currently I´m trying AOKP on my Arc S, just to see if it handles the RAM really better than Stock
so for you: get a device with more RAM and nice optics ;-) but you probably won´t be disappointed with the Arc S.
... If you want a upgrade from x10 go for sony S http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_s-4369.php, it is a bit expensive now, but if you wait a little it will be a good upgrade.

Loving my ZL!!

Been a long time apple user ..since the original iphone in 2007. had every version of it. Got bored of ios and switched to Galaxy s3 last year and been quite happy so far. Last week i traded the S3 for Sony Xperia ZL..and man..i love this hardware and the version of android..
The sony launcher is by far the best one i've seen compared to the touchwiz and others..I used to have so many launchers and widgets on my S3 whereas i have no launchers and widgets on ZL.. The built in has all the features i need,,
Got the iphone 5S for the wife..but the display on ZL is quite something..camera is great. Battery life is reasonable (compared to my old S3) and the standard android customization is very handy..
Don't think i'll ever go back to ios or other android devices for a while.
I like the Xperia ZL. But this phone has many problems. First it lost the signal. It has some lag. And now overheat. Tomorrow who know? I can affirm that I would like other phone.

i agree - i love the stock rom as well. I'm with bell in canada. My android version says 4.2.2 build number is 10.3.A.0.423
No updates according to update centre..is the latest .67 udpate not available to bell customers?
Generalities tend to be tough to back up.
As to your question about an upgrade - you should be able to install the "stock" generic 67 rom for your phone via flashtool, and have it work properly on Bell as what's important are the radio frequencies the phone supports. (and you "should" be able to flash it without wiping your data...
On latest Stock rom and 0 problems with this wonderful device. It's high end and a pleasure to use it.

I have no idea why it wouldn't be available via OTA.
As far as how to flash... search under the development forum for the ZL for Flashtool. There's also a thread that shows all of the different "rom" versions... I'd look there as well...
I am also super lucky with my ZL. Latest stock firmware and it is my first Android phone, where I don't feel the need for having root access...
I am debating whether i should return my SP and get a ZL. Normally I don't like five inch phones but the ZL is so compact that it wouldn't bother me. I am having a hell of a time deciding. Good thing I have till the end of January. What do you guys think?

Do it. The SP is a nice phone, but the ZL is leagues better in every way. You wont believe how small it really is until you hold it.
Even though my beloved C6503 is away receiving RMA Support.
Leading me to purchase a C5303 as back-up in the meantime.
I can still thoroughly recommend the ZL over the SP.
If you watch a lot of videos, browse the internet heavily, likewise use messaging heavily, then you'll love the extra real estate, and increased sharpness, that comes with the 5", Full HD, ultra compact ZL.
Not to mention the ZL's noticeable increase in both performance, and internal storage.
The advantage of 5" 1080p over 4.6" 720p may read like hype.
But as you'll find out for yourself, once you've tried it you won't go back.
Especially in such compact form, with higher grade, build quality you'd expect in Sony's early 2013 top tier, that is found in the ZL.
Plus you still get a large, but more stylised notification light.
The only cons I find with the ZL is it does generate a lot of heat when worked hard.
More than the SP.
But then that's understandable considering what's under their respective hoods (Z runs hotter still being front/rear glass?!)
So I wouldn't recommend using a case with it.
The other con is the ZL is not as efficient as SP.
This is reflected in their respective Endurance Test ratings at GSM Arena, and sums up nicely my experience with them both.
Finally, I would only recommend buying a used ZL with at least a six month warranty, or preferably brand new with a twelve month warranty.
As I am not alone in my ZL suffering from SOD/Sleep Of Death late last year.
Other than that I eagerly await the return of my C6503 from RMA Support later this month.
To which I'll be gifting my C5303 to my Mum (Love you Mum!)
Look forward to your impression of ZL over the SP should you make the leap.

I've had the ZL for about a week now and I am pretty impressed with it. The size of the phone considering the screen size is amazing. It is a solid feeling phone and the red one I bought looks great. The battery life isn't too great compared to SP but that is to be expected. I downclocked it a bit so it does better and doesnt get as hot. The screen is miles better than the SP and the extra internal memory is nice. I did like the fact that the SP didn't have the stupid shatterproof sheet on it and it was advertised as gorilla glass. I also wish the IR blaster was on the top so I could hold it like a remote. I would have taken having the charging pins instead of the IR blaster. Still it is a good phone and probably the best designed five inch phone ever. I would have waited and gotten the Z1 compact but it's just too small for me now. 4.6 is perfect but 5 inch is great if the size is that of the ZL.
The vibration on the ZL is really weird compared to the SP. Its very strong, not sure if that is bad or good. The camera is soooo much better though.
Glad to read you are enjoying ZL.
Having sent mine in for RMA Support last month.
And since, been using first C6603, followed by now C5303.
Its highlighted to me just how superior the ZL is to these two more popular and widely available models.
IMHO Sony made a major mistake not to release the ZL in the same markets globally as Z.
As for the ZL's very strong vibration.
Yes, it is far stronger than both Z and SP.
That's been my experience too.
I don't doubt you are also enjoying the ZL's far superior outdoor visibility too.
As the Z, and the SP, displays are really mediocre by comparison when used outdoors in daylight.
I sure do miss ZL's superior loudspeaker performance too.
Particularly when using Navigation incar, or hearing it ring when you are in noisy environments.
So looking forward to the return of my ZL.
And seeing if Sony will release a true successor to the compact, limited market release, ZL.

[Q] Going for T2 Ultra from ZL?

Hi,
I am currently on Xperia ZL about past 11 months now, the phone pretty much rocked everything , but recently while trying to clean my phone's mic whole I scratched a bit and later on after a weak or so, the screen started to crack..its nothing serious till now as its sticking fine , but If i want to buy a new display it is about a 100 usd here in Bangladesh.
So I was taking a look to the larger phones, Something from the phablets like the T2, The phone looked quit nice at the store, affordable for me, but I found quit some confusing reviews about the Ram and the sound quality . I am a musician by pro, least the headphones should work as good as the z or zl.
Also there are the Ram issues.
What do you say guys should I go for it? or you have some more suggestions?
Waiting for the t2 community :good:

Xperia XZ1 Compact or Xperia Ace 2 in 2021

Hi Guys,
Need to pick up another compact Xperia Seems the only choice is buying another XZ1 Compact, or the Xperia Ace 2.
Video of Ace 2 here:
The Ace 2 us a new is a budget midranger (or low ranger?), How do you guys feel it compares to a 2017 top of the range phone like the XZ1c.
Opinions please.
Regards,
Dean
seems an interesting phone, although i fear the performance may be equal or lower than xz1c.
I've been a very happy owner of xz1c for 3 years, super cool phone paid only 273€ at the time.
Now i've switched to a zenfone 8 because my company offered to buy one. I'm trying to accustom myself to the bigger size, but it's not much larger than this ace2.
Any good? Bl unlock?
They just annaunced a mark 3
https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/05/12/sony-xperia-ace-3-launched-as-sonys-most-affordable-5g-phone/
but i dont know why you would buy this over a xz1 compact which will be much more powerfull and wont be lacking to much in features witth exception of 5g which the ace mark 3 has and 120hz screen

Yeah, I will probably buy the Ace 3 as soon as it launches. I have the Ace 2. The CPU of the Ace 2 is slow on paper, but perfectly fine in real world use. The battery of the Ace 2 is amazing. I'll get the Ace 3 because I need 5G now.

do you happen to know if the bootlaoder is unlockable ?
I imported the phone. Just bought it on ebay, new, from a Japanese seller, nothing fancy. Paid $230. It's still available on ebay now.
The bootloader cannot be unlocked, so no custom roms. The phone itself comes network unlocked though, works globally with any sim.

weird why they hard lock the bootloader unlike other sony's which are all unlockable,.
i wonder if that one sketchy program that can unlock unlockable bootloaders would work on this phone or maybe it is to new ?
i would love to see some pics/screenshot of your phone and how does it compare to the xz1 compact in terms of size and feel in hand ?
supposedly the mark 3 with the snapdragon 450 would have double the power compared to the mark 2 it is just a shame it has a notch i really hate those.
i wonder what this mark 3 would be capable off with a custom rom that is better calibrated with the chipset and no gapps just microg and aurora store should reduce quite some ram usage make it more powerfull maybe even a lil overclocking would be a nice experiment in my opnion oh and perhaps a pernament black bar at the top so you never see that damn notch...
does it have english option for langue's ?
sorry for all the qeustions hahahaha

The bootloader is locked, as this is carrier exclusive Docomo phone. Even if you could unlock the bootloader, im not sure what you would do as there are no custom roms or recoveries for this device (atleast that I am aware of.
The notch can be turned off in the settings. Actually i forget it had a notch since i haven't seen it since I changed the settings after the first boot.
As for the feel in the hand, it is at the very limit of 1 handed use. You can still use 1 hand, but you need to strech a bit at times.
btw, to correct your post, the Ace 3 is a 480 5G snap.
It has English.
Pics as you requested below.

I have red about a new xz2 compact docomo you can buy with locked bootloader which you can unlock with that program so was curious if possible here aswell.
and as for custom roms i wonder if theres some place where you can make a reqeust for development for a custom rom would be cool i wouldnt mind going halves with someone buying the phone for the developer.
that is awesome i didnt know you could turn that off does it stay black even when watching a video in full screen?
Your phone looks really nice how does it hold up in day to day use and have you done anything to it? like disabling apps you dont use using adb fastboot and cant remove or getting rid of googleplaystore exchange it for aurora store and microg to reduce ram usage and save batterie life.
Anyway i am tempted and fact you can easily hide the notch just wish there was a custom rom for it i mean technically you always install a gsi but nowhere near the preformance of a custom rom.

When notch is turned off in setting, you will never see it. The black status bar is permanent, it will not disappear even in games or video.
For day to day use. The best feature of Ace ii is the battery is incredibly good. Getting 2 days+ is very easy.
You can use ADB to debloat as normal. I know with the XZ1compact many of us would try to debloat and do a lot of custom things to improve the battery. With the Ace ii, you will absolutely not need to do this.
The phone also has a strong plastic build, so i dont use a case... just let the phone body take the beatings from drops and whatever and its been fine. The durability without a case, and the extreme good battery life - these are the ace ii's beast features.

Hi Guys,
Need to pick up another compact Xperia Seems the only choice is buying another XZ1 Compact, or the Xperia Ace 2.
Video of Ace 2 here:
The Ace 2 us a new is a budget midranger (or low ranger?), How do you guys feel it compares to a 2017 top of the range phone like the XZ1c.
Opinions please.
Regards,
Dea

ace 2 support which lte band?
I'm looking to import Ace III Compact to Australia, wondering if there's replacement parts in case I break the back like I did with my Z5 Compact the first week I had it (easy to get parts at least for Z5 compact). Seems common in Japan so maybe there's some japanese website for parts I can't find anything, maybe too new?
well I imported it, now trying to work out how to make calls in Australia - Xperia Ace III (A203SO)
SMS is ok, everything else seems ok, but not calling.

The Xperia Ace III is much more snappy than Ace II, also the camera lags after you press the shutter on the Ace II
