[Not recommended anymore!] [Update available!] 3000mAh battery mod [Lg g2 battery] - Nexus 5 Accessories

WARNING this battery was produced a while ago, even if you get an new one, it's old because it was lying around a long time now (decreased capacity, phone turns off while still at about 20-40%) ---- And, the battery I described im this post was a fake one. Later I purchased a original one, but it had the same life in it like my old nexus 5 battery
I'm gonna open a new thread soon with an updated guide, and a new battery by another phone
There it is! https://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/accessories/nexus-5x-battery-bl-t19-2700mah-battery-t3739848
Long life nexus5!
########################################################
below is the old guide, you have been warned, I really don't recommend it anymore
I bought a new Lg g2 battery from Amazon because my sot was really short. You guys know the problem with those too fat batterys, so I ordered one that seemed to be flat.
I got a thick one seen here http://tanstartrade.ca/images/LG%20BL-T7.jpg
Okay, I thought, well then i don't have wireless charging ans NFC
But when i removed the layer on the battery, this is what i found: http://imgur.com/a/XJyJm
Cool I thought, that's just a piece of plastic that can be removed. My battery is now flat as it should be and you can do the same, if you still rock a Nexus 5, love this phone so much!

There are a lot of tutorials And i think you can buy every battery you want, search on Amazon. I just found out that every battery is flat.

Sorry, but I am confused... It seems two different mods exists: 1. LG G2 FLAT battery, no hacks needed. 2. LG G2 standard battery, hacks needed.
Could anyone please cast light on the 1. mod? I mean, where to purchase this kind of battery and so on.

That was my problem, i think the flat ones are fake. The thick ones have this plastic shield in in, by whatever reason. I managed to buy a flat one and it didn't work, the battery had very bad voltage, my phone turned off at 60%
The thick one is genuine i think. You just have to remove the sticker and plastic.

Thanks for the info @234herobrine432 . So you think that if I buy this battery I will only have to peel the "bump" and the sticker and it *should* fit in my Nexus 5?

Yes! I think, technically it's not even possible to build a battery with that weird increase. And the "not fake" batteries fit better in the nexus 5 than the flat one I bought. You don't even have to dremel something.

did you test dat? those are awesome news brother, does taht actually work? do you managed to remove that plastic?
do it for science please

I bought it

I bought the battery today. So, in a month more or less I could provide some news about it. I feel confident cutting and soldering battery connectors but I don't plan to use a dremel on my loved nexus 5 Hopefully this battery plus some kernel optimizations would improve substantially battery life. Going from 2.300 to 3.000mAh should suppose +30% increase!!!

What is showed about battery capacity when used apps like accubattery or similar @234herobrine432 ?

I've just bought one, hopefully it will be a good replacement for my old nexus original one!

Please keep us updated!

How did you fit the larger G2 battery without using a dremel on the N5 frame ?

The battery I've got is actually unusable on a Nexus 5, it's large the same, it's thicker but you can actually make it flat, but it's anyway longer so it won't fit the phone without hardware workarounds!!

You can folt the battery, so it will fit, but make sure you don't tear the thin foil (like me)
Yes i ****ed my battery up, it still works bc i used tape but it's not the best solution
I bought another battery on amazon for 13€
it will arrive maybe tomorrow (or later)
I will take pictures how i fold it and fit it into my device
If somebody wants to know: i had 4 hours of sot with heavy usage with the new battery, now it dropped to 2 because of the damage yeah liion doesn't like O²

Screenshots of the battery please !!

I just checked my "thick" one (bought by mistake before getting flat one), definitely not a plastic piece for my bump.
First off, it was super hard to get under the wrap, found out it was because mine didnt have an "extra" piece on top of the foil wrap for the battery, I had to open the foil itself to see the bump.
An exacto knife and, ofc, one spark later, I found the bump is actually layers of copper connected to the control board...
I feel yours was basically a flat battery with the plastic in to make it look like the non-flat ones.

Battery has a plastic easy to remove, as the post claimed. See the pictures at
http://imgur.com/a/DnTB8
Detaching external plastic the battery seems to be enough thin for the Nexus 5 case.
It had just arrived yesterday. I will try to do my best and talk about the length of the battery, my only concern right now.
I will keep posting.
Long life XDA!

People, please post pictures of your modding procedures !
Thanks !

Any updates on this mod, photos and measurements? id like to see how well the battery you had posted about works.

Sorry guys for my late answer!
I have to apologize, the battery I ordered was fake, at least I now think that. My new battery is a real Oem one, so, it's thick and theres no way to remove this thickness
So I lost wireless charging and Nfc, and my phone is close to flat at the back (still a bit round) but I didn't have to grind anything, the battery board sits on the side, not on the top or botton, gonna upload some photos later here.
My Sot increased a lot, i now get 5h easy with a lot of usage (pdf file editing) bc i'm using it in University.
and the sot gets better and better because of callibration
(resettimg the battery stats file isn't all, obviously that's only a log file)
so yeah, when you don't need wireless charging, buy a battery for our lovely nexus 5, this phone is awesome!

Extended capacity battery and cover

Has anyone been able to find a extended capacity battery and cover yet? I know I for one would be willing to put up with a thicker captivate and pay say $65 for a double capacity battery. How about you?
Thanks for voting, rumor has it this thread is going to be watched by R&D So please vote!
I vote higher capacity, but same size.
That will depend on what's possibly with current battery chemistries.
The Galaxy S has a 3500 mAh option out now. It looks pretty massive with the replacement cover though.

Holy crap that thing is huge... I think I would prefer to just carry a second normal sized battery around in the evnt that I need more juice.
Unless like others said, same form factor, higher output.. or maybe slightly thicker.. but not double the thickness.
Besides, the design of the back cover for the captivate would not facilitate a battery that size.
I'm waiting for the Seidio products.
again I wouldn't mind paying the price for an extended battery with a door that has a kick stand. Something like the HTC HD2.
ROFL! wow. when I saw the beginning I was all, whaat, that's not bad. not too big.. then I noticed it wasn't the battery you were talking about o_o.. that would be a veery 'uf!' phone. I wonder if they offer a full matte body kit lol

I thin i just got a flash back from the 90's when i saw that brick lol.
I guess some guys who like fat chicks might carry that fat ass phone around. I wouldn't be seen in public with that fatty.
I'll keep my sexy sleek Captivate and carry a spare battery.
hahaha, seriously. the second battery/case in the video had me rolling when i saw how big the phone got.
I could see a metal cover with a .5 mm bump in it to accommodate a larger battery couldn't harm the captivate looks too much. IMO.

larger battery but no bulk. It's 2010 people, they should be able to make 2000mah bat without bulk.
If the bulk needs to be added then the battery cover needs to keep the device looking pretty and not like an experiment done at home.

I lol'd.
Personally, I want something like THIS
But instead of having the battery pack be so contained, you spread out the battery cells throughout the entire backside of the phone. You could have as large a battery capacity wise, but you wouldn't add as much thickness.
That said I know very little of battery technology, so I don't know if what I want is even possible.

I guess Motorola didn't choose an energy efficient panel.

I was rather amazed to hear that the screen sucks so much battery! Thought a 3.1 low-res screen would rather give a better battery life.
May be a custom ROM with some tweaks can take care of this.
I'm going to leave brightness on about 40% for the day and see what happens. I normally have on auto brightness, and my usage does show the display using about 50% of the juice.
Yeah with respect to the display I don't think an HTC phone would be that high... Odd choice moto!

how much thickness does the extended battery add? it's hard to tell from the picture, but it still looks like the there is the raised portion at the top of the device for the camera
Not much... I hardly even notice its there. The new battery backing even keeps a slight curve as the original slimmer one did.
I'm really happy this is an original Motorola product and the battery cover / door looks just like the thin one with the silver swirls and all.

Hi to everyone,
is there any lucky owner of Motorola Extended battery who can tell me how thick is phone with extended door? I ask one seller and he tell me Droid Pro with this original extended battery is about 1/2" thicker than with standard 1420 mah battery. But after I have read this thread I think it must be nosense. But there is no exact infor and no photo anywhere. Thanks a lot!
I'm really surprised to read about everyone having battery problems. I wouldn't describe myself a heavy user, but I do make several calls, send and receive a boatload of texts, have widgets that require data pulls set for every 30 minutes, do a small amount of internet browsing, and use the mp3 player for an of hour or so while working out and I have had nothing but amazing battery life. Being a BB convert a couple of devices ago, I can say with certainty that this, being my 3rd Android phone, has the best battery life so far. I usually unplug around 6am and by 11pm, I'm still at about 60-70%. No android device that I know of can touch the battery life of a BB, but this one has been very good so far.
It adds more weight than thickness imo. The battery is probably 1/8" thicker and the soor the same. Probably adds 1/4" more thickness overall, but there is a great weight different to me. Seem to hold a good charge though. Worth the $34 to me.
im really interested in this

Has anyone tried to fit the otterbox in w extended battery? May try to hack up the case so it will fit when i get it
I was able to cut out the back on the standard cover for the extended battery to stick out, and the otterbox seems to fit fine. If you don't want to cut your back cover, you can just leave the back off since the otterbox protects it, though I still like the idea of having an internal cover. I may go back and put some sort of rubber seal around the battery opening just in case. Will post pics later

That 2200mA Samsung battery is a bit expensive but very relevant to my interests. Looks about the same size as our stock battery. Would be sweet to have that added juice without having a phone the size of a small book.

Bigger battery (at least 3.000mAh) with fitting cover **not juicer**

As the guys from fixit showed in their teardown, it's quite easy to remove the back cover and detatch the battery
So the ideas that comes to mind is: Will there ever be an extra size replacement battery coming with a custom back cover?
I mean the same accessory you can find for mobiles with a replacable battery (such as Galaxy S4)
For example: Does anybody knows wether the BL-T7 battery from the Lg G2 can fit?
** I don't mean a cover sporting a battery juicer.
Don't think so. If they intended to allow users to replace the battery they would've made the back cover removable
This is about what will come to market to enhance the Nexus5
Even if the battery is not made to be replaced every day, who cares?
Do you place and remove the display protecting film every day?...NO, you just place it once and stop caring
It's quite obvious that the poor battery is just a marketing strategy not to overcome the almost as twice expensive Lg G2.
But it's a replaceable part, I mean it's not the soldered ram

Personally I have zero battery issues, the thing lasts all day for me and then some with medium usage. That said, it's clear that battery matters a lot to people.
I don't think it was some grand scheme by Google or LG though. They built a phone and kept it under a pretty strict budget. Could they have added a bigger battery? Sure, but there are quite a few people out there that don't need it, and those that do, probably are using things like Notes and Maxx's and such or carrying portable chargers already. You can't satisfy everyone with a product like this and although it's clear that Google is trying to make the Nexus name more relevant, it's part of a market where different people want different things for their phones.
The back isn't meant to be removed by us though, the fact that it is relatively easy to do just makes for quicker, less costly repair times which is all about the bottom line. Using a removable battery also helps keep costs down and keeping customers from messing with it helps as well. Maybe somewhere down the line someone will make a bigger battery for it, but from what most of the sites are saying and the teardown indicates, you shouldn't be holding your breath for it. The Nexus 5 is a great phone for some people and for others it's just not going to be what they really need in which there are many, many alternatives.
Unlikely. A replacement cover would need
-vibration motor
-Wifi, NFC, GPS antennas
-Wireless charging coil
-4 magnets for docking
Just get an external battery.
I wonder if the back is right up against the battery. As in if it is possible to add a slightly thicker battery for longer run time.

Hopefully, some enterprising Chinese companies would come up with batteries that'll fit in the phone but with slightly larger capacity.
no thanks...I'm stuck with cinese battery declaring a huge capacity and then dropping all of a sudden from half battery to ZERO battery......

comapring the ifixit pictures with that one, the battery connector is on the wrong side.
The cover would be pretty spendy I bet. The vibrate motor is attached the back cover along with the wireless charging. Is the NFC also part of the cover? Anyway, if it can be done it probably will but I'd be concerned over the quality of the battery if the whole package doesn't cost quite a bit.
Here is the idea:
preserve the original cover, just add a "bridge" between the main body of the phone and the cover, like an inner case-juicer
I think if the Nexus5 could reach the shipping goals of S3/4 or iPhones......for sure someone would start manufacturing this kind of product
but actually the engineering is to expensive compared the market size

ZeroLemon (or other brand) extended battery case for G6?

I'm wondering if ZeroLemon will be making a battery case for the LG G6. I had the 10,000mAh for my Note 3, and love how long the battery lasts me.
They did manufacture battery cases for the G4 and the V20, but not the G5, so I'm worried they might not have a G6 one.
Or if other companies start making them, we can post updates in here as well.
I'm sure they will. They have been pretty active with extended batteries.
I got in touch with ZeroLemon over Facebook. Sadly, they said they don't plan to make a battery case for the G6, citing "technical difficulties".
I just wrote to Powerbear, and am awaiting a response.
Update: Response I got from Powerbear:
"We'll check into adding your requested unit as we continuously work on growing our product line."

Fingers crossed!
It means NO, they won't do it. I'm currently just using Quick Charge 3.0 Powerbank, it charges full in one hour. But i will be looking for extended battery case with a kickstand. I don't like hanging powerbanks.

I'm remaining optimistic that PowerBear can produce one; they did one for the LG G5, whereas ZeroLemon was unable to. If PowerBear makes a battery case for the Galaxy S8 before the G6, that's when I'll lose hope lol. Only time will tell though.
So far, an Anker powerbank is serving me well.
What's the technical difficulties? I wish LG would copy Apple and release their own, they're so superior to power banks I bet they'd sell a ton.
Can they make a "wireless" charging battery case? Seems that would be a big seller.

I'm really enjoying my G6 after years of Samsung- Couldn't bear the curved screen gimmick. The battery life is ok, but I'd really love to have some way to extend the battery- I'm so used to a zerolemon 10000 battery on a note 4, I'm totally spoiled. Even a power case would be fine by me, t'would be nice if the usb c on something like that would have a passthrough, but this is my first "sealed" phone without a removable battery, so I'm clueless what kind of options even could potentially exist for phones like this...
Cheers!

Probably none mate. How many other waterproof phones you know of with a similar external battery as you describe?

I don't think a phone being water-resistant excludes manufacturers from producing extended battery cases. Sure, with removable batteries in previous generation phones, all you had to do to put your battery case was take off the back cover, remove stock battery, and slip extended battery in. But even with today's water-resistant phones where you're unable to disassemble the housing, there are still external battery cases that simply have the battery fitted inside the case itself.
Samsung Galaxy S8 (IP68, same water-resistance as LG G6) has extended battery cases produced by ZeroLemon and Power

iPhone 7 has IP67 water resistance. Multiple manufacturers produce extended battery cases for it.

Joey

I'm curious, why does ZeroLemon not make those glorious hard plastic skeletons anymore? The G3 model is spectacular! I'm using it as we speak! I'm sorely disappointed with the lazy G4 and V10 slip-on cases. My G3 is a tank! I never flinch when I drop the phone.
I sure an impressed with their G6 solution. I'll be considering this phone now, rather than only arriving to the V20. But still, they withdraw the superb skeletal design. Can someone please explain to me why?
I think there's another thread about this but yes it's available. Just ordered my last week. Hopefully will get it early this week.
