Mi6 battery drain and phone almost always is warm - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone
I've mi6 since last week and from beginning got a problem with battery, when I'm not using my mi6 it's almost always warm, not hot but warm and battery is using like 10 % per hour.
Had it with global rom si decided to unlock bootloader and installed miui 9 ver 7.8.10 but here is the same problem as well.
Got apps that I used on all my previous smartphones nothing new here so doubt its the problem with apps.
Disabled miui battery optimization.
When installed roms I did full wipe from twrp.

If software has changed and issue is the same, maybe it's a hardware problem. Replace the battery. If the warranty is valid reinstall global fastboot ROM before sending it to be repaired.
Write here what happened. Good luck.

Hi, I have the same thing, in my opinion this is a hardware problem. I am sending the phone for warranty repair.

Had the same issue, hard reset helped.

For me not.

10% per hr is a problem.
The battery is so good on mine, if I don't touch the phone it's like 10% over days!

Mine have the same problem after copying system files from my old phone (redmi note 3) using mi mover.. After hard reset, everything runs well no draining or heating.

try clean install the 7.8.17, i believe this is the best till now.

Horrible Battery Life on Nougat

So Just to announce where I am coming from, I am a Sony fan for the past 4 years, Had the Z2 and was totally blown away by the battery life it offered. Then I got the Z5P and even though the battery performance was nowhere near the Z2 I still got through an entire day with it without issues so I was happy.
Then came the Nougat update and all hell broke loose. I am literally getting just 6 hrs of battery life since the update. And even when it is idle it still drains battery like atleast 2 percent every hour.
Also the charging is very slow. I have a quick charger that used to take the battery life from 0 to 20 in atleast 10 - 15 mins. But now it actually drains the battery if I am using the phone while charging. And yes I have switched off the battery optimization option.
Any help will be appreciated even if it is just a confirmation that I am not the only one having this issue, which will at least let me know that it is not just my phone.
There must be some process with corrupted data after de update which is constantly executing something. I recommend you to do a full wipe, factory reset

Oh did not know this could happen. Will definitely try doing a full wipe and see how things go! Thanks a lot!
I never fully trust OTA updates, because it keeps all the applications data and some special case of your current configuration maybe is not "converted" to the new version and causes the programs to behave weird. Have you looked at the battery usage? Maybe you find the process which a huge % of battery eaten, and just wiping that app data is enough

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I looked at the battery usage stats and no specific app is draining more than 2 percent of the battery over a charge. The only things that have taken most out of the battery are 1. The Screen On Time which is to expected and 2. The Idle Phone which takes around 15% consistently in every charge.

after updating to .372 , i learned from internet that this build has battery draining issues. ( i never faced any )
after updating to .376. , the phone is as steady stable as my other xperias (btw z5p is my 6th xperia )
now there is however a catch.
1. if you updated on OTA , this means the update of 1.2gb via ota only replaced certain files from .305 to make it .372 build (android 6 to 7) --- such OTA updates USUALLY ends up having problems (in general) with battery draining issues. Such problems i personally faced during updating from honeycomb to ics. - in short whenever update is available; always install FRESH
2. if your bootloader is locked then use xperia companion to install fresh after wiping all data. (makebackups)
3. if your phone is not rooted then try disabling all un necessary apps under Apps section.
----
Trivia
You cannot compare Z5p with predecessors like Z3/Z2/Z1 and Z since
1. they were always smaller in screen size / resolution and were not 4k
2. They stops at Android 5 / 6 as their last builds and battery life was awesome w.r.t consumption

however some of friends on XDA agrees that .305 (android 6.0.1) (came out dec2016) is the BEST build ever for z5p. addressed all battery issues and it was the final build for z5p on android 6.0.1
even i am thinking to degrade my phone due to ram consumption of N is very high!
this is why xzp has 4gb ram!
I need to know. If I updated my phone to .376 and it's having this lack of battery life, DO I HAVE TO SELL IT OR DISPOSE OF IT BECAUSE IT'S LITERALLY A LOST CAUSE NOW? (P.S. I immediately did a factory reset after the Nougat install completed.)
Because apparently if you updated to this build, then returned to the last Marshmallow build, THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED, and reloading nougat will only make things worse. And if you updated to .378, it not only does this not get fixed, it breaks your headphone jack to boot.
Please help. I am freaking out about this battery life. I lost 60 PERCENT IN 6 HOURS OF BASICALLY PODCASTS. ?

Well, after all my trials I flashed MM back and everything is back to normal. The issue is with 7 so not sure what happened to your handset
EDIT: Re-upgraded once again= battery 8 hour life. Go into About Phone, Status and disable battery optimization. The handset reboots and incredibly this morning it was like the old days .

Maybe I'll try that. The best I was able to do was 21 hours with one bar LTE, 6 hour's sleep, and 3h40m screen on time with several hour's worth of Pocket Casts.
i confirm that on build .33 i lost my battery even on stamina mode one percent every 10 minuets over using wifi , it just keeps the battery when device is screen off -_- its horrible i didnt have this kind of problem with .253 and im wondering revert back to MM

Worse battery life than Mi 5?

Hi guys,
Actually the battery life of my Mi 5s doesn't satisfy me.
Previously I owned a Mi 5, and battery life was better!
And this is uncommon, because Mi 5s should have a better battery life than Mi 5.
Also, phone is often hot.
I've tried many roms, nothing changed.
Anyone with the same issue?
In the beginning this was also the case for me, but after flashing newer firmware versions it got way better.
I think no because my friends buy new mi5s and he have very good battery life but my mi5 very bad battery life.
I have 4-5 s.o.t daily usage
My friend mi5s 6-7 s.o.t daily usage ( he and me same usage ) whatsapp browser camera ...

Which firmware are you using now? How about of Sot?
I don't know, sometimes I think my battery could be faulty.
Not sure about SOT, but it lasts the entire day without a problem under medium use with the screen on more often than most people do. So it will indeed be around the 7 hours like bugra333 says. I use the latest official LineageOS build.
The firmware is here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72580452&postcount=663
/EDIT: Do also check if some app isn't draining your battery too much. Some bugs may cause this behaviour.
And with Miui do you have similar results?
Worse than currently, but not quite sure by how much.
Anyone else?
i have over 6 hours of sot on xiaomi eu rom, official miui, rr and mokee. official los gives just over 5 hours for me
My mi5s is the only Xiaomi to ever disappoint. The battery is so bad that i never take the phone out of the house. I use it mostly to run the incredible Xiaomi vacuum. As others have noted, the phone runs abnormally hot and that is a huge waste of power. Source of the power loss is unknown. Also, there isn't a Sim card in the phone, so it's not the radio. Global 9.5.2 makes no difference.

Battery draining too fast

I had this Mi6 for two weeks now and I'm still having the same problem with the phone. I had MIUI8 and updated to MIUI9 7.10.19 and battery drain over night is still insane. My phone drains from 100% to 20% in 8 hours when I'm asleep and everything including wifi and mobile data are turned off. I've missed work the first day I started using the phone because it died around 04:00 in the morning, saw thet from batfery usage when I finally charged it. I went in to options and found that sleep mode was off. I've turned it on for a couple of days already and nothing changed. Adding screenshots of battery usage I took this morning, phone was fully charged at 24:00 and at 08:00 it lost 80% while doing nothing.
Any help appreciated
Using MIUI9 Global developer ROM 7.10.19
Try wiping data from recovery.
Set everything up again (boring I know) and see what happens.
If it's still the same return the phone to where you bought it. Get a refund or a new device.
If a clean install doesn't help then the battery is faulty.
Contact the store / seller asap so the issue is logged with them and they are aware.

Battery life is a fraction better on MIUI 9 so yeah it might fix your issue too.
I have same battery drain problem about phone on deep sleep. There was a problem with Miui 8.5 stable version, after which I used Miui 9 beta and the stable version did not fix my problem again. The odd thing is that every mi6 user does not have the same problem. Only some have this problem. I charge 100% before I go to bed at night, but when I stay in the morning in an average of 8 hours, the charge falls to 65%. A very annoying situation for a 3350 MAmpere battery
same problem as yours with same release, I'm going to clean flash the new one, hope this will solve the issue
Hello ,
same problem here .I was loosing 3%/hour in airplane mode and in deep sleep mode. So the phone was unusuable. I tried everything (new Aosp rom with clean flash , global rom , dev rom...) but nothing worked.
After contacting the seller it seems it's a hardware issue and I have returned the phone for repair. I'm waiting now.

Mi A2 Lite Battery - Unloading Very Fast

Good Night, some good soul to help me on the Mi A2 Lite, before upgrading to the Pie its battery lasted up to 40 hours, today it lasts no more than 4 hours / day, as I do a lot of use of the device I have to recharge it, it 02 or more times a day. Would anyone know of any solution to this? He is losing 3% of battery every 5 minutes, that is, in 1 hour he loses 36%, lasting at most 3 hours. The eight processor cores are constantly in 2016 Mhz, I no longer know what to do to try to solve the problem
Did you reset after the upgrade from Oreo to Pie? You might want to install AccuBattery to pinpoint the possible cause.

Dear Tkirkwood,
Good Day !
Steps Are Given Below.
1 - Setting

3 - Erase All Data (Factory Reset)
Also You Can In Attached Snapshots.
Have A Nice Day.
Thanks,
MUHAMMAD Asif Qasim
I did the hard reset as explained, but the battery drainage is something very strange, since without use it has already dropped 32% one hour after being recharged.

Maybe you have an app installed which had bad update recently. Track usage without installing any apps, just the clean os.

May I aware you about a fingerprint scanner bug that is supposed to be causing this issue. Are you having trouble with the fingerprint unlocking? I had an at some poit it showed a message as if the hardware was unavailable. Since I've hard reseted the phone, the scanner was back to life, but sometimes is simply doesn't unlock and I have to use the pin. Many users say that the fingerprint keeps persistently alive and using every core of the processor, causing battery drain. I do not have this problem, but maybe you would like to google it.

Hello Dear Tkirkwood,
Hope You Are Doing Good !
I Am Very Sorry That, You Have Done Factory Reset And You Are Still Facing Issue.
You Can Flash Stock ROM
1st Download MIFlash Tool & Latest Stock ROM From MIUI Forum. Then Unlock Bootloader And Flash It With The Help Of IMFlash Tool.
Please Note That This Method Will Erase Your Data So Backup First.
Link For Unlocking Bootloader.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-...asing-t3878453
Link For Latest Stock ROM.
https://en.miui.com/download-354.html
Link For MiFlash Tool.
https://en.miui.com/thread-345974-1-1.html
In Addition To That 1sr Reset Your Mobile And Do Not Install Any App, Just Check Battery Performance. If Issue Still Exists Then Go Ahead For Above Mentioned Method. After Successfully Ported Stock ROM Then Just Check Battery Without Installing Any App. If Its Okay So Enjoy. If Battery Performance Doesn't Good Then You Should Have Changed The Unit Battery.
Greetings !
Thanks,
MUHAMMAD Asif Qasim
My smartphone is still under warranty, I contacted the store that sold me, they asked me to post it so that it could be analyzed, they suspect that it is a battery addicted, I doubt it very much, because in previous moments like I said, before the update to the torta it lasted almost a day and a half of charge without much use and with use it lasted all day, I'll send it, if you do not give me a solution, try the suggestions offered by you, regarding the digital sensor is not.
You could try this after the baterry is charged and with the charger still plugged in, keep vol and vol down plus power pressed for at least one min, all snapdragon cpus have this feature but whether xiaomi have messed with it who knows, supposed reset battery stats, after a around say 40/50 seconds wait for the longest power off cycle before you let go.
Good evening, after sending my Mi A2 Lite to the technical assistance came the first opinion that the battery was "swollen" and that they would replace it with a new one, as I researched, batteries addicted or "swollen" are not covered by the warranty of the phone what left me with a big doubt, is this even the problem of my smartphone ??? Well, he returned from the assistance last Friday and to my surprise, putting him on the load off, he did not hit 100% load, always stopping at 97%, I made two other loads with him on and at most 96 % of load, I am with more doubts, some say they can be bugs, others advise me for the request to change the device, I do not know what to do ....

You maybe could try battery calibration, using an app from playstore
Batteries are not digital. 100% is a guess. If you get over 95% that's effectively full. It may not even charge from there to avoid overcharging the cells.
Bad batteries can happily report 100%, then quickly drop when you put load on them.
