Battery Mod Bulk - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Thinking of getting this phone, but one question still lingers. How much bulk does the battery Mod add to the phone? The battery Mod is a big selling point, but I don't a slim phone to become a brick with the mod. Anyone with pics?
Please and thank you.

From what I have seen videos of the Tumi one makes it almost as thick if not a mm thicker than the camera bump.

Got my Z2 a couple of days ago. Battery mod came yesterday. Magnetic system is pretty slick. Have to pull fairly hard to release it which I like. Wife and I were surprised at how thin the battery mod is and I'm pleased with the bulk of the phone with it attached. The phone is extra-ordinarily thin on it's own. Really thin. Don't like the feel of it naked 'cause it feels as slippery as my V20 is (dropped it twice in a row). Also scared that the camera lens, which protrudes alot, will get scratched. Battery mod makes the lens indent. Ordered a regular back from Lenevo, interested to see how much bulk it adds. I have yet to use the phone so this is all I can add.

[REVIEW][PICS]Qubits TPU Case

This case is pretty nice, I have the Diztronics Matte Case and this far superior.
EDIT: It appears I messed up with adding images, so I provided direct links to a Picasa album under the corresponding text.
First off, I'd like to point out its design.
https://picasaweb.google.com/103360287160249925033/GNexTPUCaseReviewImages#5694664838498885570
This case uses a combination of three forms of TPU.
The back uses two, and the side has the third. From the photo, the majority of the back is matte with a gloss design on the side of the back.
Now for the TPU on the actual sides on the phone:
https://picasaweb.google.com/103360287160249925033/GNexTPUCaseReviewImages#5694666212754847586
It's a nice textured form of TPU that provides a great amount of grip without making the phone impossible to slide in and out of a pocket or gather dust like silicon. It may just be that I'm fourteen, but I always found the Galaxy Nexus a bit slippery, or maybe it's because of this the darn phone gets, which looks great but isn't entirely practical.
The case itself doesn't add much to the size of the phone, but it provides decent, and very eye catching protection.
https://picasaweb.google.com/103360287160249925033/GNexTPUCaseReviewImages#5694664844600398466
The back of the case is also raised near the camera to prevent scratches that phones like the EVO were plagued with.
https://picasaweb.google.com/103360287160249925033/GNexTPUCaseReviewImages#5694666188166111906
The volume buttons get a dedicated cover, as expected, but makes them feel mushy, but they're really small to begin with.
The cutouts on the phone are pretty big and shouldn't have any issues, and there is also a double-holed thing at the bottom for lanyards.
https://picasaweb.google.com/103360287160249925033/GNexTPUCaseReviewImages#5694666177130719426
This is overall a great case, for its price its pretty hard to beat as well. You can find it here on Amazon.

That looks like the cover I had on my Incredible. I liked it, especially when I cut it to fit my extended battery... hehe! Though I dont know if the material is the same.

I've had this since launch, it costed me ~£4 from ebay which I was really pleased with.
So far it has treated me well, feels good, looks pretty good and protects my phone.
I should receive the Diztronic Matte Case sometime next week, I was hoping for that to be an improvement on this! (OP doesn't think so! )
I like that. I am using the stock one from Verizon. I am still waiting for a good case, but this one is pretty nice. I want a clip too I think. However, I break clips by bumping into things

This is the only Galaxy nexus case I currently have, and boy does it get the job done for $2 from Amazon.
Almost got the cruzerlite but the price was right on Qubits.
Anyone know if I were to purchase an extended battery if it would fit with this case? Any extended batteries you'd recommend (for GSM) that won't break the bank (or my phone)
I ordered a clear one from amazon for $1.75. My old smoke TPU case was turning a bit yellow so I ordered this to replace it for a while. I'll post pics if anyone is interested.
Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing that thanks

White black duo-shield soft skin hard case

This is for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, not the GSM Variant.
I ordered this case from the suggestion of another person on twitter and it came in the mail today. I was especially intrigued by it because he said it fit the extended battery rather well!
It turns out that it does and seems to be one of the first I have found (besides the Otterbox Series) that fits the phone with the extended battery included.
It is made of high quality materials, and isnt a lint collector in my pocket which is a big one for me. Below are a link to the pictures of the phone w/ the extended battery and the case itself.

I have this case in white/purple and loved it, but was concerned about the back getting "scratched" since the plastic part doesn't have any felt or cushioning. What are your thoughts on this? Is there any reason to be concerned in your opinion?

The plastic seems to be fairly strong, for example, it seems the coating is of high quality which makes it not easily scratch able.
For the most part I am not worried about the case being scratched and I really like it.
I was worried about the back of the phone getting scratched by the plastic part that touches it. You have noticed no scratches on your phone from this case?

Thank you for your review and your opinion! That makes me feel a bit better about using that case as it is my favorite so far. I am still looking at the Kraken (when they make one), Rearth Rinke and SGP. I also have one of those cases that look like the ballistic ones. I like it though it does make it a bit bulkier.
Just ordered the White/Green one to go with my Beats . I'm a sucker for anything Lime Green, I have been going naked on the phone, hopefully I'll like this case. Biggest thing I was worried about what being a lint magnet, good thing it isnt

anything similar for the gsm?
I also ordered this case Black/Red. I have a GSM version. The difference between the LTE/GSM is .53mm so Im thinking it'll be fine. I read a negative review about this case that discouraged me but after reading this thread im feeling a lil better. Pics look great on the SGN. Also Carbon Fiber Ghost Armor will be between my boo boo (lol) and the case so I'm not worried about the plastic scratching my phone. It also comes with a Naked Shield screen protector wich I've read is a wet application. Any thoughts on the included screen protector? Is it any good? Doubt id peel my Ghost Armor screen protector off for any other but im still interested if it's good.

It adds near 0 weight to the phone, at least it seems as if it does not which is the important part
I just got this, LOVE IT! although it does add some bulk it barely added much weight and it fits well with the extended battery with one exception, I had to remove my skin that was installed on the phone... I was a little shocked it wouldn't fit with that skin but I guess I don't need it...

Mophie JuicePack battery case

Had a few of these when I had my iphones and always wanted them to start making android units. I sell my GS3 yesterday to get the Note 2 and the next day Mophie releases their first Android case for the GS3. Not that I regret my hardware upgrade, but my decision would've been harder if this was out.

I've had similar devices for the Vibrant and SGSII phones. They're alot like having a second battery without the hassle of changing it out. In the past I've applauded this idea but the more I've thought about it the more it makes more sense to me to purchase an extra battery with external charger (or not) for a fraction of the price.
The convenience of getting about 170% the battery life just doesn't offset the cost of the device. And you'll never get quite the life out of this and the internal battery as you would if you had a separate battery.
Just my .02
My Own Review
I purchased this when it came out. I think this is probably one of the best cases around.
CASE
As far as the casing itself goes it's extremely solid. What I love now is how it feels more....REAL than before. Anyone that has this phone knows that it feels like you are holding a very light phone, but feels like it will bust if you bump into a wall. The case gives it a solid feel. Has the weight and gives you somewhat of a better grip on the phone. It does not wiggle while it is in the case, but the top cap doesn't align absolutely perfect. Anyone that has OCD might find this somewhat annoying, but it's still only off by like half a millimeter.
BATTERY
The most important feature of this case is of course the battery. One nice feature is the case being able to be charged AND being able to charge the phone at the same time. Some people might think that the case's battery is feeding the phone, but I've charged it a couple of times now and 1 will always beat the other in charging time (the phone will charge first before the case if the case is almost empty and vice versa). The battery life of the case I would say give its about 50-60 percent more charge time in my opinion. It's cool, but of course if I would of preferred if it would of doubled the battery life instead. The lower section of the case does get somewhat warm when you flip the switch to charge the phone and it does it surprisingly quick. I can't say I've had a real moment where my S3 NEEDED the case's battery so far, but having witnessed how much it could charge in one flip of a switch is honestly a nice surprise should I ever NEED that extra boost.
LOOK
The case is sleek. I purchased the white model and it feels like it was an OEM product. The only hard part is when you have a sleek shiny case you dont want to scratch it ESPECIALLY when a battery is part of the case.
Great feedback... what I really want to know; is how much protection does the “case" actually give the phone. From the looks of our, is a gray battery pack, and mophie brand is top of the line when it comes to that stuff... but case wise... does it really protect? Or is it just a battery pack?

Honestly I would say the case is not built for protection. Does it give more protection than having no case? Yes of course. The thing is that it is a very rigid solid design. No features of it are for impact absorption. It fits very snug into the case (as all their packs do), and would lead me to think that any impact the case takes EASILY transfers to the phone. Mophie does have their line of impact cases, but of course they are for the iPhone. It's a case that will protect better from hip height, but anything higher will easily transfer the impact to your phone.
Thanks for the review of this case. I've considered buying this case as I too had one for iPhones in the past and really liked them. I don't make a habit of dropping my phone so I'm not overly concerned about the protection but I am kinda disappointed that it doesn't give that much more battery for as much as it costs.

Not really worth it for 100 bucks!
Would be nice at like 40...
Is it worth it?
Personally I like it. I'll have to state that it extends the battery more like 70%. I know 100 is steep for a case, but when it comes to quality they really went all out. The design of it hasn't flaked, scuffed, or scratched like most cases. Again the case is not really built for impact, and in my opinion that is a good thing because that would of added some extra bulk that it just wouldn't need. I know others feel that an extra battery / extended battery / charger are just as good, but I was going for ease of use and simplicity. The model I own is a Tmobile model without the FM Radio or Quadcore (cough* F U Tmobile *cough) so I can't say I suffer a lot from a low battery. It has gotten to points where I didn't have much battery and a wifi connection was necessary, but of course it would kill the battery as low as it was. So having this case helps in those inconvenient cases without have to have a fully charged spare, removing the cover, replacing the battery, powering the device back up, and continuing from where I left off. To each their own though. I have seen other models on ebay that are much less expensive (like $20) and over the same convenience, but IMO it's worth the money since it does provide the convenience with that touch of quality.
Your collection is great, I love Android

That's the one thing I like about it. Extended battery and battery covers are horrible looking and don't offer any protection either way. The Mophie case feels like a case, It fits well into your hand and doesn't get in the way. Yes it will increase the overall size of the phone, but in my opinion it's a good thing. The phone itself just doesn't feel like a real phone being built with so much plastic. When you add the case yes it's still plastic, but if feels like its easier to hold.

So, I'm really considering buying one but have just one concern .... does the new case feel slippery like the original S3 shell? I bought a vinyl protector and it REALLY helped with the feel of the phone ... took it from light and "plasticy" to a more solid feel. Felt like a skinny bar of wet soap without it ... I'd really like your opinion on the tactile feel of the Mophie case.
Many thanks.

So... I bought this when it came out.. I jumped on it.. It was such a mistake - first off there are not cut-outs for the buttons (power and volume rocker) ...they have "botton extenders" built into the case.. they SUCK to say the least - every time you TOUCH as in a hair touches the volume rocker external button, the rocker activates, permanently held down until your press the opposite rocker button. Pure **** if you ask me. For the size, well its makes your S3 FUGLY and BIG, weight difference is not so much... Build quality is terrible as the case is super slippery and feels like you're holding a bar of soap.
If this was 40 dollars, I would say its worth it for long trips, but 100? HELL-NO-WAY is worth it. I would not waste your time.

Thanks jkom.... positive or negative, opinions are what I'm after.
I bought one when they got them at my local Best Buy. Unfortunately, it is not worth the price. It makes the phone quite a bit longer and a little wider. I didn't think the buttons were that bad as others have mentioned. It really only charged up the phone to about 35% and that was it. I returned it and went on Amazon and bought the Hyperion 4200 extended battery and a Hyperion TPU case to go with it and spent half the price of the Juice Pack and get a ton more usage out of the phone.

I was wondering how the charge on one battery could be "pushed" into another. Without a significant differential it just can't happen so 35% makes sense. I figured it would be more like a piggyback idea.... use one then the other when you slide the red/green switch.
Hmmm.... more to think about
Thanks astarling.
I've been using it for a few days now. I bought the black one. It has a matte finish that I think makes the phone less slippery. It feels better in the hand too with the added weight. The only real problem I have are the light indicators not working properly. I guess I'm happy with the purchase. It really is one of those things you have to try to see if you like it. Best buy has a good return policy though and the case is 10$ off there right now. I would try it if your on the fence about. I don't think it offers much protection though even if it does make the phone feel very solid.
Just got this case today and my initial thought is i love it! Ive been wanting a mophie case for awile but not enough to get an i-crap. To me the case and phone feels like you bought an otterbox case.
It is about 3/8 inch longer and about 3/16" thicker then when i had my phone in the incipio sycrilic case. I Have slightly large hands so i love the extra meat.
It does have a matte finish and is a little easier to grip.
I dont have past experience with the case so i will see how the battery charge works and report back in a couple days.
Btw... I have been using it for 10 hours and the power/volume buttons have not been overly sensitive by any means. Coming from a case with a cut out for these areas, i welcome the pertruding buttons. My fat fingers love the ease of operation.
Edit... Today it took 2hrs 10 minutes to fully charge this case. Once charged, it took 1hr 45 minutes to charge phone from 10% to 89% before the case died.
= 70% more battery in less than 2hrs!!!
Ohh yeah, this case is a keeper!!!

Best case right now for our phones

Hello Guys, I recently bought the OG PRO and I am extremely satisfied with almost everything, but mostly with the battery life!
However I noticed that not so many cases are available for the phone yet. BUT this Case Mate case is simply excellent in terms of safety, grabing the phone without fearing that it will slip down and the BEST feature is that no direct touch whith the screen if the phone is upside down AND no direct touch with the camera when the phone is in normal position.
THANKS!

I made the mistake of getting the incipio feather case. My phone smacked against something in my pants and cracked the front edge where the feather case doesn't protect. Luckily it's tiny and only a $45 replacement in the future.
I ordered this tough case as soon as it happened. Can't wait for it to get here in a couple days.

hmm actually it adds a little bit of bulk, HOWEVER you get used to it but you have a lot of protection. On second thought the phone feels also more safe and robust.
I have this case and it actually doesn't add alot of bulk. Its still thinner with the case on than my buddies Nokia windows phone without a case. I agree that it makes it feel more sturdy as well.

I have the case as well, and you'd be surprised that it doesn't add much bulk at all, which is amazing considering how sturdy it is. I've dropped my phone numerous times with the case, and the case doesn't have a scratch, plus I can lay it on it's without worrying about the camera lens scratching on the table
I have tried several cases and in my opinion one of the best that I have personally used is the Incipio Dual Pro...
Love the case good feel well made and doesn't add a lot of bulk. I've had a couple drops with this case and it preformed great.

hello esimon,
1. base on your "Couple drop" experience, does your Incipio Dual Pro prevent "hairline cracks" of the touch screen ?
2. Is the power button hard to press on the Incipio Dual Pro case ?
Note: Anyone can answer/reply to my two questions if you have this kind of case.
Nice case mine is really bulky compared to this
Here's what I am using. I am very happy with it and have received compliments on it as well.

Cant use mods with case?

I was thinking would it be possible to use a mod on the phone with a case on it because i seen slim cases with the contacts cut outs.

I would love to see cases that fit OVER the mods
I am thinking about picking up this phone along with Incipio battery mod. But so far I am unable to find any case that would fit phone + case combo.
Does anybody know of any such case? Thanks for your help in advance.

I've looked around for some cases, even in Ali Express, but it seems we still don't have a case for the Moto Z Play with Mods. I'd say it's overkill to have the Power Mod in the Moto Z Play, as the battery that comes with it is already a beast, but hey, more battery power is never enough. I myself still consider getting the Incipio Power Mod. I didn't buy the power mod yet because I'm still wating for my Moto Z Play to arrive and, just as you, waiting for a such case, that can fit both the phone and the mod. 3510+2200 mAh must be pretty awesome! =)
The Sound Mod wouldn't benefit at all with a case above it, because of the speakers, and we all know that those cases with little perforations for the sound to come out suck. But cases for the other Mods are indispensable because it's another way to protect the phone and the Mod, in case it falls right on the floor. Without the case, the Mod would snap right out of the phone across the room, and it'd be awful =(
But i guess soon we will have plenty of cases for the Mods for the Moto Z Play =)
I do not think the Mods would work if you have a case on the phone as the pins are very short and would not make contact. I just ordered a DBrand skin for my Z play and have been told that the Mods work fine with a skin.
I was looking online for a case and also noticed that most of them have the cutout...which seems pointless to me. I did find a Cimo brand case on amazon which has a solid back...I ordered it, but its taking its time getting here (estimated delivery is November 10th)

True that, the cutout is useless, unless the Mod has a supermagnet, it'll fall if you use the phone with a case and the mod above it all. I'm still waiting for some manufacturer to realize that the phone+the mod need a case that binds it all together.
I was even looking a case that fits with the mod. For now the body protector from Gadgetshieldz is a best found for me.

Bumper case from Verizon
I use this bumper with all the mods without an issue. Ordered two, one for the wife's and neither of us have an issue. Quality bumper

Good to hear. I may try and pick up one of the tech21 cases or a Poetic case for the Z Force and see how that works. I am usually more of a skin guy than a case guy...I usually only use a case when hiking or camping, other than that my devices are usually skinned or naked.
