Viiwok Deva HMD - Mobile Gaming

Hi,
My name is Dragos and I'm the founder and senior designer of Viiwok, a startup which builds VR adapters and controllers.
More specifically we're currently in the final testing rounds of the first mobile HMD in the world. It's basically a hybrid tablet adapter with integrated, discrete headtracking sensors (as in not using the tablet's gyro/accelerometer sensors).
What it does is letting you slide in any 7" tablet and wirelessly displaying stereographic 3D video feed from the computer. It's basically a mobile Oculus Rift and a future proof product as well, since we're not constrained of resolution and hardware issues - because you can always use the latest and most powerful tablet at your disposal. The headtracking has basically zero latency and the FOV is about 120 degrees, using specially designed aspheric lenses with a 2" diameter for each eye. Besides native 3D support in certain titles (Crytek titles made with Cryengine, DOOM 3 BFG, etc.), we can also use TriDef for realtime side-by-side 3D rendering of currently unsupported games.
While gaming is our main scope, the HMD could be also used for virtual tourism and landscaping, in medicine (disabled or severely handicapped persons) or CAD design. Our next project to be launched is an omnidirectional treadmill which detects your body movements in real time (walking, jumping, crouching), much like a Kinnect, but without the back-facing and latency constraints.
Right now we're using Gamepad THD and Kainy for the video feed, but also Limelight for native Shield streaming ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...505510&page=15 ) while also developing our own video streaming solution in house.

It's a head mounted, 3D display. You can stream games to it from the PC and see them in 3D. For virtual reality applications and games.

Do i need a great powered PC for this? Can i find It on Amazon?

You need a good wifi connection (802.11n) and a medium-to-high computer. An Nvidia Kepler GPU is fine.
Basically, if you can play your games now, you don't need a new computer for the Deva HMD.
The HMD only receives the video-feed from the computer. You need a 7" tablet with 802.11n Wifi and a nice GPU (Tegra 3, Qualcomm 600/800, etc.).

No offense friend but I wouldnt want to put that scary thing on my head.

i haven't enough money for an nvidia kepler in my notebook there is a gt 520m ;so can i try also with a tablet or smartphone?
i have a note 2 but it has mali 400 mp and i don't know if is enough great powered for this...
i and my family are going to buy an ipad air for christmas... Can i try with that?Is there any app? For the power i think that the ipad has the best gpu for the mobile,i believe also now is faster than xbox 360 and play 3.

Hell no ))) I wouldnt want to put anything on my head even Google Glass which is overrated for that price tag I think. I mean if it would look like regular Sun Glasses without some thingy that looks like Universal Soldier ))) Maybe I would put it on. And as for is it Enough to have Decent Tablet? Well depends if you want to play Chilidish Android games, which have bad graphics compared to PS3 or XBOX or PC, due to the Lack of DX and OpenGL then you are all set ) but I think its better to wait till TEGRA5 Devices DX11 support full OpenGL and 6 times faster than PS3 GPU... But you have to wait till Summer 2014 and for some games that will be made for that Architecture ( So I wouldnt rush to any new Tablet right now, unless of course your budget is big enough to afford buying a newest tablet every 6 month )

I can certainly say this won't be "the first" HMD using a mobile device. I know VRase has demoed units at various conventions/conferences and has some (supposed) VR industry connections. It had a successful kickstarter, but now we are waiting on the actual commercial units. They are promising they will look better than their 3D printed prototypes (which weren't that bad).
Still, more competition in this market is good. The problem is getting content to render in SbS format (Side by Side). Especially for pre-existing mobile games, less difficult for streamed desktop stuff (easy to tell GPU how to do special render cases through injection or driver manipulation).

I wouldn't call Vrase a HMD, they're in a totally different ballpark. Vrase is just an adapter for smartphones. They aren't intended for VR and gaming, the smartphones have screens too small for the needed FOV, and they don't have integrated sensors, meaning you must use FreePie or other 3rd party 6DOF solution. You could use Vrase for basic SBS movie watching and AR (to some extent).
I know because they're spanish, like us. They're our colleagues but they aren't aiming in the same direction. They're more orrientated towards the casual user (movies, leisure), we're going for the gaming part.
Which leads me to your second preocupations, SBS mobile gaming. AFAIK there aren't many mobile shooters worth their salt at the moment, because the cappabilities are not here. Mobile GPUs are weak still, and untill this summer when Logan makes its appearance, we're going to stick to PC streaming.
Things will change, and will change fast in this VR/mobile gaming sector, and our belief is that our product is prepared to help you fill the gap.

Okay... wait. You say that this is an HMD, but VRase isn't due to the fact you need to use a phone screen. When clearly the difference for yours appears to be (at first glance) that you use a 7" tablet. I get that you have some integrated high-precision sensors, which obviously you wouldn't have if you were using VRase. Even using a simple solution like VRase you can do similar things with that. Yes, you can watch SBS formatted movies. You could also use software to request a GPU to render 3D in SBS and then connect using Splashtop, Kainy, LimeLight, etc. You would be correct in that it wouldn't have head-tracking though (at least not without extra 3rd party sensors or using some software to forward the laggy/innaccurate sensors from the phone/tablet gyros or accelerometers). Still, both end up being Head Mounted Displays, whether they have frills or not.
I truly do wish for you to prove me wrong. If information is available for public consumption, what differentiates your product from others existing in the market? Is it basically just similar to Occulus Rift, but with a wirelessly connected screen powered by a 7 inch tablet (and thereby... upgradeable)? Do you plan to push for public availability prior to commercial release of the Rift?
I get you and agree that mobile gaming horsepower really isn't quite there yet, and the content _REALLY_ isn't there. There are maybe six or so competent shooters out there that were originally programmed for mobile (IE: not counting Quake recodes). As an aside, I do wonder if there a way to runtime modify OpenGL ES calls to force SBS rendering in such apps. I know ChainFire managed to have a Root-required piece of software that allowed for platform specific (Tegra-only, Adreno-only, etc) optimized games to run pretty well on other chipsets. However, that is neither here nor there.

Hey, I'm not trying to enter an argumente here with you man If you consider the two similar enough, fair play. They are, in more ways than one. The differences are subtle enough for the average user - size, scope, sensors, etc. As I said before, Vrase is for the casual user, our product would be more towards gaiming.

You have to take into consideration that the "market" for these products is very much in its infancy. You have the Oculus Rift and then you have the others (Vrase, Durovis Dive, InfiniteEye, Viiwok Deva) which are adapters by all means. Our goal is to achieve full mobility, without that tangled mess. So there are about 4-5 products, out of which only the Rift is out (even though there isn't a commercial version yet) and the Vrase just finished its Kickstarter a couple of months ago. So there isn't much of a competetion between ourselfes. We're all just trying to push VR out in the open.
Yes, we are going to start a crowdfunding campaign this weekend, with delivery starting in April.

I totally agree. Mobile SBS gaming isn't here now, and one can only hope for things to change this year. Maybe products like ours will help push things in that direction. Android exclusive content is made of movies and a number of tech-demos here and there (most from Durovis, using Unity engine). So we're focusing to PC titles for the moment, going the streaming way.

I fond a new tablet tv box with window 10 dual boot,it can be used to tablet pc and tv box.I think it's very good.

Here are my thoughts on this device. Bear in mind that I am new to this category of devices. To me this device is a TV Dongle / box that tries to be a tablet. Either that or its a tablet with Identity crisis. This is marketed as a Tablet or MiniPC. This I suppose it can do with caveats. As a TV Box, its got advantages compared to other devices in that category and some downsides as well.As a tablet, it does not do well compared to the other devices in that category. But I am getting ahead of myself.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS -
Being powered by Intel, usually means good things. Especially with the whole Win-tel combination dominating PC world for years. However in recent years, Intel's foray into the world of tablets has had mixed response. Those devices are great as a portable computer or Net Enabled device. However, when you consider Non-Windows tablets, the place is dominated by other SoC Manufacturers. Particularly in case of Android, there has been very little support from developer community to Intel based devices. So you are likely to see smaller collection of apps in Google Play for Intel based devices. Now, if we were to look at TV Sticks/ Mini PCs, the things go further downhill. For one, Intel has decided to exit this market. So, no wonder the response to Nexus Player based on Intel has been tapering.
Given that kind of background, we take a look at the Pipo X9. To be honest, I do feel that this device is attempting to perform different roles for different people and ends up being jack of all trades. For one, the lack of a battery pretty much kills any aspirations it has of becoming a tablet. Being permanently tied to the wall is not anyone's idea of a portability. That being said, the wedge shape also precludes being portable.
As far as ports and interfaces are concerned, we do have decent coverage. Along the right side, we have a pair of USB ports along with a Earphone jack and the speaker. That side also happens to have the power button and volume control. Along the back side, we have another pair of USB ports accompanied by the expected HDMI port and RJ-45 lan port. There's also a slot for a micro-sd card. But I won't be using that at least. That side also sports a big Wireless Antenna making for a pretty stable wireless connection. The X9, when booted, offers a choice of booting in either windows or Android with a default to whatever OS you were in last time.
WINDOWS EXPERIENCE -
Honestly, I am not a big fan of Windows touch. As a desktop OS, it has its place and uses. However, I found that accuracy of recognizing touches as being low. Being able to get to what I want efficiently is not straightforward. But let's not delve into merits of Windows.
The X9 when booted into windows 10 home, brings you to an unsecure user login. I found the navigation was similar to my other laptop with Windows 10. The fact that this is more portable than the laptop does make it easy. So if it comes to hooking up your laptop to a TV vs the X9, the X9 wins hands down. I do think it actually puts windows touch to a good use that it was meant to do, when connecting to a TV. With VLC picked up from App store, I soon had a nice movie going from network location. Sound reproduction was pretty good but albeit on the low side. However, Gearbest.com had also sent me Bluedio H+ turbine with the X9. So the sound problem was temporarily sidelined.
ANDROID EXPERIENCE -
Android side when treated as a TV Stick and not as a tablet, then you are working with right expectations. You have Android Kitkat out of box with possibility of update down the road. I won't hold my breath though. Essentially, its 8 & 1/2 inch form factor is slightly larger than that of your average TV mini-pc. You have pretty much 8 GB allocated to Android if you have 32 GB version. There's not much bloat out of box. The apps are pretty much standard plain vanilla Android. I was wondering about the Root. However, when I installed SuperSU, it informed me that its already rooted and just needs newer binaries. That updated, Root Checker confirmed that I have root. That's one less to worry about.
However, the Intel Graphic Chip offers additional up-conversion of the HDMI signal offering better hardware decoding. This shows up when you play movies at 1080p. The HDMI out does its job. Unfortunately, the device is not recognized as a CEC Device (Consumer Electronic Control). Oh well, think I am being picky.
CONCLUSION -
The Pipo X9 is a decent TV Stick with a Dual Boot of Windows 10 or Android Kitkat. The Intel Z3736F's Quad Cores offer decent performance without any lag or delay for normal web browsing or playing off of Youtube. As a TV mini-pc, the X9 offers greater flexibility of a touchscreen without having to use a remote. Its built-in speakers are good enough for the job but may appear as limited due to the form factor. Performance over Bluetooth is nice over a distance of 10 meters. HDMI performance is on par with other TV Sticks based on AMLOGIC Chipsets.

How can I connect my external HDD to USB and find out it in Android mode?
My external HDD is using NTFS format as It can share with Windows and storage files larger than 4GB (films)

You may connect it with the USB Port. But this device does not offer OTG.

Do you know how to boot this device into recovery? Or get it to boot from USB stick? I just bought one and want to make a full image backup before I start messing about with it.

You can try quick boot app on android.

Custom rom?
Does anybody know whether there a custom rom (Android 5 . ...) for these devices?

Just bought the X9S, but the windows installation was corrupt. Installed a new copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft. Works well but lacks a lot of drivers and can't find them!!!
Make a bootable USB and plug it in the console. Then hold in the volume up and down buttons when you switch it on. This should put you into the BIOS menu. Change the boot order to boot from USB first. USB stick needs to be plugged in or BIOS won't see it and give you the option. You also need a USB mouse/keyboard plugged in to make your selection!
You can apparently also press f7 if you have the keyboard and USB stick plugged in.
Make sure you obtain the drivers as wireless and touchscreen among other things won't work without them!

You can put Windows 10 Pro on an X9.
Create a bootable Windows 10 USP Stick from ISO. Plug in and start the Pipo X9. Before also plugin a mouse and a keyboard. When starting your Pipo press F11 and you will see the Bios setting.
Set your USB stick in the boot menue on first position and start again. During installation from windows you have to remove all partitions so that you have only one partion. Go on installing Windows 10 Pro.
Off course you will so loose your android partition but if you need you can install later again. Your Bootmenue from Pipo will not be lost.
For the missing drivers i used a windows software called "Driver Booster" from IOBIT. With this software i can install all the missing driver because it searched for them and installed them. I think it also works for X9S.

Hi. I bough a Pipo and sent it back because touch screen isuues. I got a new one with the same problem: the touch sensitivity is bad. For the ones with the same problem, I installed TouchRecalibrate.apk in android
The app isn't in the app store. I used it and I can say that it increases the touch accurancy very much. It still not perfect, but i feel a very noticeable improvement

We use PIPO x9 in W10 mode to display Movies for public though HDMI 40 feet away form the PIPO, under W10 you'd instantly have access to your HD ntfs...

....Hi just came here for the exact same wish !!!
First I know you can boot - other Android device - into Recovery mode using HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN press down all at the same time.
As soon as the reboot starts, you may press VOLUME UP to have the Recovery menu appears !
I'm interested in knowing if you could make any backup of your PIPO
(and possibly restore it sucessfully with any software - even more crucial)
My pipo is in use so I cannot really afford to "jam it" doing backup/restore ops.
Can you update us about that ?

Ey guys, i removed the android partitions from windows and i am trying to extend the windows C partition. but the order of the partitions in windows dont allow me to do that.
My last option is to reinstall windows 10 completely. I am trying to get the latest version of windows 10 on there.
I have the 32 GB (not so dual boot anymore ) and the current windows partition is 20GB.
Is there a way to boot in to the USB?

Chuwi HiBook is one of the most cost-effective 2-in-1 tablet. Chuwi official price about this tablet is $239, but now the Amazon sale price is only $209. Compared to other 10.1 inch 2-in-1 tablets, I think it's very reasonable and affordable.

Is there an optional color?
Is there only gray Chuwi HiBook? I am interested in this tablet, but i perfer gold tablet. Is there an optional color?

I consider buying this to replace my old onda v919

I just received my new Chuwi HiBook from a well known Chinese seller. I've been playing with it for the last few hours. Firstly Chinese bloatware uninstalled without any hassle.... And stayed uninstalled. Physically the tablet is quality, the metal backplate is particularly pleasing although it does warm up significantly when performing multiple tasks. I noticed this particularly when mass installing my favorite apps. The screen is crisp and clear, blemish free. So far very little lag, but it's early days. Most of the games I play are strategy so I can't really tell. Only one annoyance, the speakers are right where your hands are when holding the tablet so although Chuwi have considerably improved the speaker performance, it's wasted when they're often covered by your hands when gaming.
Hopefully this thread will grow as more people receive their tablets.

In order to watch movies, surf in the internet, read and office is this enough ? Is this fluid ? I think it should have 4G technology!

The CHUWI HiBook is WiFi only, there is no 3g or 4g version. I've been streaming films and watching downloaded video via Wi-Fi with smooth results. My comment about the speakers earlier is less important when watching video as you don't tend to be holding the device. As with ask new hardware I'm still getting to grips with it, I've found a few games which wrong run properly which is disappointing, but they weren't problems connected to processor speed.
I accept the fact that this is a budget tablet which is trying to be a pc as well, there are frustrations, but short of paying twice the price I don't think you'll find anything much better. It's early days, I could eat my words but there's already been a m OTA update pushed from Chuwi so they're obviously attending to issues.
It would be good to see some developers playing with one of these, the potential is good.

Maybe you misread that, The first HiBook has just been launched but now you're saying they're launching a successor this quickly?
Anyway I got mine too and I'm loving the metal back. Charging via Type-C is fast too, even faster than my Hi8. I can't root Android using the existing guides on the internet, but the good news is the bootloader can be unlocked (I used the fastboot command instead of developer options, that doesn't work). I think this needs a custom TWRP to flash SuperSU properly, but no builds for the HiBook are available.

Hopefully a kindly dev will invest in a HiBook and get some ROMS started. From my point of view I'm not going to root it until I see a firmware listing. I've asked Chuwi to post it on their site and they seemed willing. They opened a forum for me so they seem quite helpful.
I'm really enjoying my new book, a few frustrations but on the whole it's a good machine. Kodi runs super smoothly with the "lateralus" build from the "easy kodi setup" app. Let's keep this thread active and share any additional links and information we find.
First to find a recovery and custom ROM wins a Snickers bar!

I'm interested in this tablet, my previous experience with the ASUS T100 was that those rubber nips on the keyboard kept on falling off 2 weeks into using it and the screen wouldn't shut off properly, are you experiencing the same thing?

Hi, I'm very intrested in this tablet but I got some questions.
Is it charging on USB Type-C?
What about the micro-USB port? Does it support OTG? Is it possible to connect a external 2,5" HDD?
On my Teclast X98 Plus this is not posdible, the tsb does not deliver enough current! I also have really great problems with sd card on windows so I will send it back and hopefully get my money back to buy a Chuwi HiBook.

Hello,
Chuwi HiBook has micro-USB port and USB Type-C port ( Power interface). It also support OTG function. I think it is a good tablet.

So you can connect a 2,5" hard disk drive with a OTG cable without extra power for the hatd disk?
Does the tablet deliver enough power? Is the tablet recognizing the hard disk?
If it does, I will get one too.

Sorry, I haven't try to connect a external 2,5" HDD So i can't give you a definite answer right now. But the most tablets need extra power for the hard disk. Thanks.

I want to buy one that doesn't need extra power like the asus transfomer pad tf300 or Acer Iconia I had before .....
It's an important spec for me.
Could you try this for me if you got the time? Would be very nice from you.

Hi avalanche99, you're talking about the keyboard? Because if it comes down to it you could plug it directly into the tablet USB port itself. Also any reports on battery life?

It is possible to re-install android without losing windows. You need Intel's Flash Tool Lite. I used 64bit win 10.
1) Power on the HiBook while holding volume up and volume down. You should get the Chuwi logo and the words "DNX FASTBOOT MODE.."
2) Windows on my machine didn't use the right driver. I had to manually change the "Intel Android AD" device driver to "Android Composite ADB Interface"
3) Once the driver was changed, the intel flash tool recognized the HiBook
4) Browse to where you extracted the HiBook Android.rar file. 7zip works great for extraction
5) Choose "update" in the configuration drop box.
6) Start the flash. For me, it got do 25% and stopped. The HiBook rebooted to the normal android recovery
7) Windows again got the driver wrong. The HiBook shows up as a different device, so I had to again manually select the "Android Composite ADB Interface"
8) I power cycled the HiBook,entering DNX boot and restarted the flash. This time it worked.
My HiBook now boots both windows and android.
Some other tidbits:
1) Press ESC or DEL to enter the BIOS at the CHUWI splash screen
2) Press F7 to get a boot device selection menu
3) The left and right arrows, followed by enter can select windows or android instead of the volume rocker

How to enable Miracast and Alt mode on pixel 3a xl?

So im pretty pissed with google for removing the ability, cause i really love the desktop experience of the phone as a small laptop that i can carry anywhere with just an hdmi to usb-c and a wireless bluetooth keyboard.
I bought a cromecast (not the best buy of my life) ,and it not working for my needs.
-The sound only comes from the external screen.And it seem there is no easy way to make ur phone the sound output.
-cromecast 3 needs internet to work,that means if u dont have stable wifi you cannot use it at all,if u have a decent wifi connection its still has a hard time connecting,and it cripples other peoples wifi signal.
-I cannot use an hdmi to usb-c to cast my screen.And then have my bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Really bad move from google, but im asking here the community if they know about a mod to fix most of this stuff?Any help would be appriciated at this point.Is there a magisk mod or a .build way to fix the miracast and usb tethering ,in order for me to be able to use the cable?

I just replied to the thread above this one that there is a Magisk Module to enable Miracast for Pixel devices but I have not tried it. I only know of it because it's in magisk managers download section..

Hey that's my video!! Thanks for sharing it here. I just want to clarify that after testing the old Diamond USB 2.0 adapter (model# BVU195) that I used in the video I did discover that the video output got really jerky when there was a lot of full screen movement going on. I don't know if it's because it's the slow USB 2.0 connection or older DisplayLink graphics chipset. But I did end up buying a newer USB-C powered DisplayLink Certified ASUS MB169B+ Portable monitor and the video output was smooth at full screen on it.

My self I prefer the Logitech k400 series always have and will.
Ugoos X4pro fired up very easy, logged in quickly to WIFI or Ethernet:

X4pro does appear to Zippy and moves along nicely

Anyone noticed an issue with this x4 pro where videos crash/exit after a while in kodi? Tried with Kodi 18.9 and 19.3 with the same result. Box heats up during benchmarks to 85c or more.

I got yesterday the UT8 Pro.
Since it uses Android 11 to.
I got a problem, I can't install a well-known VPN app from Playstore or APK mirror.
Other apps work well.
The VPN is installed, if I launch it a black screen opens with VPN logo and it crashes.
Contacted VPN developer and Ugoos Support.
Just wondering, any idea?
* Maybe a specific Topic for the Ugoos UT 8 could be opened?

I'm trying to contact to Ugoos support but really not seems to be good. I've got problem with MDM app for remote device management and after two weeks they have only answered me once and it was nonsense. In my case, when granted app with device owner permission, after first reboot, it never boots again.
I contacted from ugoos website chat, [email protected] and directly with some guys from skype (in the web you can get skype IDs)

Apps installing on my box is a mess.
Streaming also.
It's all settings, permissions, wrong screen resolution related.
Have daily contact with Ugoos support in China.
There's a small 2 mb update v 1.0.3, that can't be installed in my case.
I asked for a full firmware update .zip.
Like on the old blogs.
They are working in a solution / update.
Say its Magisk / Root related.
Maybe my box is bad flashed, but it ain't working flawlessly.
I hope on a good solution.
Had contact with the reseller from Ali Express, who's contacted Ugoos China also.
Otherwise I get my money back or a replacement.

Just bought it few days ago.
Beside the stock ROM, is there any ATV ROM for this device?

If you're able to install successfully a Nord VPN trial account .. ( Playstore) free for 7 days on it?

My X4 Plus arrived yesterday. First impressions what a tidy little thing not much bigger than a packet of fags. BUT it seems to me that they have just stuck the peripherals on it in any old fashion. HDMI only out of one side and power input out of the opposing side, bit like the NVIDIA Cylinder - stupid design. Ethernet and ariel on the rear and USB slots on the front. An infra red plug in is also seperate and I had to use a short USB extention lead for my wireless mouse dongle because there was too much interference when plugged directly into the box itself. So now that sweet tidy little thing looks like a drunken octopus, very untidy indeed.
If this is the price to pay for making their box smaller and better looking then they are defeating the object and I personally am not impressed with it at all. Whats wrong with the basic design thats been used for years. Why add an external infra red just to make it smaller - but more clutter. I dont get it.
It did 2 ota updates in no time after powering up. Activating root from within settings was no big deal but I had to sideload latest Magisk to get it to work before I got proper root. Mouse pointer keeps disappearing which is just not acceptable. Contacted their support about it earlier on today and waiting for a reply.
Its a good box but well overpriced. There are boxes out there with same spec for half the price and its just a shame that I did not buy it in the UK. If I had then it would definitely go back.
All of that so called extra bling in the settings is just not worth it and the best that I can muster is a 7/10. The poor design certainly knocks the score down somewhat.

If you still have the box slimbox does a custom rom for it. Work great on all my boxes including X4Q Pro and Plus
