I've searched all over but no mention of the speakers. All these so called reviewers, they all talk the same crap. It's like they got a guideline from LG on what to talk about. So lame.
One reviewer was asked to do a screen low light test and he said he did not have the phone long enough to do the test...REALLY?
We do have few people on this forum that have their hands on this device and hopefully the will be able to answer this question

Everyone says it's loud. For instance this reviewer from PhoneArena, while praising the iPhone 8 stereo speakers says the LG V30 is more than good. Better than the Galaxy Note 8, for instance in his expert opinion. (Yes, LG V30 should also have had stereo speakers. The one flaw I can find.)
The iPhone 8 has unlawfully great stereo speakers, way ahead of the competition
After some deliberate testing, involving both new iPhone 8 models, as well as the iPhone 7, Galaxy Note 8, and a pre-production LG V30 unit, we came to the conclusion that yes, Apple has managed to do just that.
Speaker loudness and quality comparison
Model | Quality | Loudness
iPhone 8, 8 Plus | 10 | 10
iPhone 7 | 9 | 8
V30 (preview) | 6.5 | 7
Galaxy Note 8 | 6 | 7
LG V30
As we mentioned, we're using a pre-production V30 unit, meaning it isn't exactly the final thing you'll find in stores, but it's close enough to give us a good idea of what to expect. There's actually some pretty decent audio coming from the V30's bottom-mounted speaker, with very good clarity; it just misses the depth and sheer volume the iPhone 8's speakers deliver. However, it's a step above...

What about videos, YouTube etc?

I think its just ok. It's in a bad spot though. I;ve caught myself covering the grill completely and snuffing out the sound with the way I hold it sometimes. :|

Sound quality

Got Google Pad today. Best buy did not one on display. I have noticed that volume is good but speakers seem poor sounds like in a box. I have LG Optimus G pro and the same movies and audio sound better on phone. Anybody have any issues?

Google Pad? You mean the G Pad?
On my G Pad the sound is OK, just a bit muffled at lower volumes.

Sorry yes G Pad (stupid auto correct). Mine seems muffled all the time

Indeed, the sound is not very good on this tab. Muffly at lower and mid volumes. That's the very weak point of this tab. I don't understand why reviews didn't speak about that.
Perhaps it can be fixed by firmware update but I don't think so..
Hmm...The quality of the output is OK. There is no interference from the screen, touchscreen or any other stuff. With Sennheiser IE80 it sounds just fine. It's not a Cowon, but definitely better than most of the mobile devices. The speakers are also fine, I don't know what are you guys complaining about.
Mine sounds awful with music, but it is great for voice. The upside is it sounds really good with my scanner radio apps, so I'll reserve it for that.
Rich
Yup, voice is good.
I use my tablet a lot to watch television.
Some months ago I bought a nexus 7 and I brought it back, because I could often not understand a word of voices speaking.
The G pad does not sound very good to me in terms of quality,
but voices are loud and clear.
I'm quite content with that.

- Sound with headphone is correct/good
- Sound through speakers is just awful ! Especially in low volumes. It's not my first tab, but it's the first one where I mute sound every time I can (ie : in games) because I prefer hearing nothing than of a muffled and scratchy sound !
I have returned and already received a new G Pad because of this issue. The first had this box-like sound through speakers but the second is good. If I where you, I would return mine.
I already did ! My first one was unusable. The 2nd one is better but still crappy compared to other tabs
Strange, my G Pad sounds better than all of our mobile devices in the family (LG L9, Galaxy S, ZTE Grand X IN, Acer TimelineX 5820TG etc.)... I might have a boosted one...

Hmm, it seems you have been very unlucky. My girlfriend also got one of these and I would say that the sound through the speakers are good. I don't know where you bought your G Pad but here in Sweden I was able to return my first G Pad at the store and got a new one directly.
Mine has also a good quality.
I have compared my g pad to my iPhone 4s, my fathers ipad air and samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0
My g pad is clear and loud, but lack bass compared to the other devices
compared to ipad air, its night and day with deep tones
is this same for everyone, or do my g pad have faulty sound ?
I got a plenty of bass here. It's not like an X-Mini, but definitely better than most of the gadgets I ever had (smartphones & tablets - 200+)
its not only bass when playing some audio or music video on youtube
if I watch a youtube video with a guy speaking, he sounds more thin and female on my g pad and like a real male on my fathers iPad air
how to make a scientific test ?
Just got back from best buy and swapped my G Pad for a new one the sales person noted the muffled sound and the new one is much better. So if you have trouble exchange it
Sent from my LG-E988 using Tapatalk
by muffled sound, do you mean low volume, or does it mean mainly higher tones and little lower tones&bass like I have ?
Serial Number of units with good sound?
Hi everyone,
Last week I bought the G Pad (here in Belgium), and had return it back because of the now already well known light bleed and blue line... With the display issues I could live but the main reason was the sound which I just couldn't stand.
I tried watching a movie and the lack of bass and clarity (box-like sound) was so bad that I stopped just after a couple of minutes.... (And I use tablets mainly for movies and browsing)
I compared it to my girlfriend's Nexus7 2013, and it is night and day! The G pad's sound terrible until 50% volume, once passed that number, the clarity is much better but then it's too loud (for a quiet evening)... The G Pad is way louder than the Nexus7 but I prefer clarity over decibels...
It's a shame, 'cause I really liked that tablet, it's the perfect size and weight!!!
As some of you sad that they returned it back and got a better unit, or those who have one with a great sound - could you please share you Serial Number to see if there is a way to find which ones are good and which aren't.
Thanks
edit:
I've found some reviews mentioning the problem...
"However, the speakers aren't very good—their sound is muffled and a little hissy, and the problem is especially pronounced at lower volumes. For example, it's hard to pick hi-hat sounds out of a song unless you have the speakers up around 50 percent. Bring your headphones."
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...s-lgs-g-pad-8-3-google-play-edition-reviewed/
"One thing we noticed — and quite honestly loathed — was sound quality. The aluminum back (and probably the light, hollow feeling we noted in our first impressions) made for absolutely terrible sound. The rear-facing speakers are tinny and shallow, causing the entire back panel to give a tactile buzz when holding it. While the screen size is great for lots of things, the sound quality is abhorrent, and makes this tablet immediately questionable as a purchase. If you’re a dedicated earphones user, the experience is fine, but that’s not most of us."
http://androidcommunity.com/lg-g-pad-google-play-edition-review-20131216/
Mine has horrible speakers as well. Even my 2.5 years old Samsung Galaxy SL sounds better.
I would also call it "muffled", this concerns mostly the voices in my case. I can feel it quite good how the back-body is resonating the sound. It's very annoying.
Hopefully the new one sounds better. Can anyone confirm that it only affects few devices here?

Speakerphone (loudness, clarity)

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the LG G5's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The speakers are incredible! Surprised by how small and still powerful a speaker could be. At first look you are hoing to think "they probably suck!" but very soon you find out they are very bassy and clear
Much better than the Sony Z3 and surprisingly loud and clear.

OMG its so night and day. I used to have to embarrassingly ask people to speak up because my phone has volume issues. The G5 speakerphone and earpiece volume is refreshing. LOL
i'm glad they did not hop onto the water proof hype train.
even though you will hear some noise when you listen to stuff on max volume this speaker is performing insanely well.
sadly in gaming i tend to close the holes with my hand. i guess there will be upcoming modules that will boost the speaker even further.. keep in mind the speaker is part of the modules.
Very happy with the speaker as well. I'm surprised by how rich the sound is. This definitely isn't your average phone speaker.
Very happy with the speaker and speakerphone.
It vibrated in louder settings and made it feel very cheap I'm disappointed with LG with this! The whole chin chamber rattled. Volume and sound though was very good.
Its pretty good but at loud volume it does vibrate,
Sent from my LG-H850 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Love the phone, but it vibrates at high volume. It's a bit like holding a jar full of angry wasps.
However I've now put the phone in a bumper case, and it's much much better..
I didn't think my G5 would have such a great speaker, but man I was pleasantly surprised. The speaker is both loud AND clear.
Agreed, really loud and nice.
i come from z5c and i miss its sound. maybe less strong but my g5 above half volume bar does vibrate and thus generating a loud noise. maybe a fault with my magic slot?
The the quality rocks compared to my S7. Don't expect wonders but i was really surprised.
Even better with Viper4Android.
When using youtube, anything below 50% is hardly audible. Is it just me or others are also experiencing such problem?

Yeah i think thats true . But the phone gets really loud from step to step in the last volume steps . Loud enough . I compared it to my old Note 4 with Volume boost and it was noticable louder . So i am really satisfied .
One of the best single speakers in a phone.
Is it significantly louder than the Galaxy S7? How's it compare to the LG G4?
I went from an LG G4 (which has an amazing speaker) to the Galaxy S7 and everything about the phone has been a disappointment. I'm returning it and gonna get the LG G5. Does it have any bootloop issues? That's why I'm in this situation of choosing a new phone in the first place, and why I didn't go to straight to the G5. I dare say the G4 was better than this S7 (before it bootlooped...). Didn't realize Samsung took out the IR sensor or had such a **** speaker. Also didn't realize just how dependent I have become on having a removable battery. Speaker is important because I watch Netflix and Amazon Prime in bed with my fan on.
I barely use my loudspeaker but it already sounds blown out at 75% not happy at all.

Speakerphone (loudness, clarity)

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Google Pixel's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.

Very average for me. Not as loud as I would have hoped.
Still waiting for mine to come in (should be in Tuesday). Will compare it to my S6 and see what happens.
Average at best. My friend and I were playing Battlefield 1 last night and talking on speaker phone, he also has the Pixel, at times we could not hear each other very well. I actually think the speaker on the 5X was better....
I would have to agree that the speaker is average at best when it comes to call quality. My Galaxy S6 was louder. Though audio playback for non-calls seems to be a fair amount better than my S6.
Anyone having issues turning their speaker all the way up and when watching video get like a popping sound?

It's not the loudest I've heard but boy, compared to the 5X the 5X is a joke (I have both phones).
Sound is louder, deeper and more clear. Comparing to the 5X it's in a completely different level...
Used to have hands free conversations while driving with the phone in a cradle... but with the Pixel I can barely hear someone even with the volume at maximum. Not brilliant.
Better quality and clarity from the single speaker than I expected.

Yes, totally. If you've heard a blown speaker, it kind of sounds like that at the higher levels.
Can other people either confirm out deny this? I'm wondering if this is a "feature" or a defect.
Thanks.
I chat with support and they told me that it is an audio issue with the videos since the issue wasn't consistent. They said to factory reset my phone. I did that, played the same vdieo over and over and the issue is no longer there.

I only noticed it when I was using the speakerphone during a call. I had to factory reset it later for a different reason so I'll check on it tomorrow but it still sounds tinny as Hell. And I'm coming from a Droid Turbo 1st generation.
Very average speaker! Waiting for Root so we can do some audio modifications and make it atleast decent quality.
Yeah it isn't as loud as my Nexus 6P, nor is it front facing. Or a dual setup. But it isn't as bad as I'd feared. Still plenty loud and crisp.

I wanna eat my words and some humble pie too. The speakers are almost as loud as the 6P if not equally loud. The 6p has better dynamic range but I felt that in some tracks, the Pixel was crisper. It's really a toss up.
Add they're not front firing, I have no issue calling up assistant for time or weather when I'm in bed. Yes, I'm that guy who always places phones face down. The audio just pumps out the grill without any muffling whatsoever.
Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers mobile app
I haven't had enough time to test but mine seem to sound fine for what they are. Definitely not loud enough, but quality is on par to all the phones ive used minus an htc m9.
I actually prefer bottom speakers or speakers on the back for my particular use. I use my phones primarily for Google maps in my semi. I've used the sony z3 compact, htc m9, moto x, moto x 2nd gen, iphone 5s/6(s)/7., and oneplus 3
The best phone for audio i can actually hear while driving has been the 1st gen moto x. Sony, htc, snd 2nd gen moto x with front firing speakers are the worst. Iphone 6s better, iphone 7 best for iphones. One plus 3 probably in at #2 but they are not the best quality (more on the tinny side w/ lack of mid-low range).
I will have to compare the pixel next week.
Are there any mods yet for this? I would like my speakers to be loud as well coming from S7 Edge boy this speaker needs help! Anyone?

That's certainly odd. I did an EDM/Dubstep, standard voice, rock, and opera music test on the Pixel and Pixel XL compared to my Droid Turbo 2 and the iPhone 7 and 7+. This is what I came to:
-Pixel and Pixel XL are quite loud for a single/mono speaker setup, about equal in loudness to my Droid Turbo 2. All were quieter than the iPhone 7 and 7+, which is expected given their stereo/dual speaker setup.
-The iPhones possess a thin, metallic, tinny sound from both speakers, with a miniscule amount of bass or depth to the sound. The mids and highs were somewhat ear-piercing and overly sharp, and were overall not managed well. However, this is better than the S7 Edge from what I can tell, which sounded muffled, quiet, and tinny to me, when I watched a video on a Verizon display unit. However, I will have to do another test to truly give comparative results.
-The Pixels were quieter than the iPhones off the bat, which is to be expected, since they have mono speaker setups. But, the sound out of both of them was exactly as loud as my Turbo 2, and the Pixel's speakers have an impressive amount of depth. Bass was definitely present here, moreso than the Turbo 2, and the sound was not thin by any means. The mids and highs were present and did not sound tinny or not properly recognized by the speaker. However, the treble lacked the "wow" factor in comparison of the Turbo 2, whose treble was more crystalline and more alive, as well. Not that the Pixels sounded dead by any means, because their treble was also well represented and sound, at that high of frequencies, was not distorted, like it was a little bit with the iPhones, playing high-frequency sound (treble) in the soundtracks I used, but the highs and treble were more enhanced. So, it seems like the Pixel is better suited for bass and lower frequency sounds, whereas my Turbo 2 is better suited for treble and higher frequency sounds.
-In conclusion, the iPhones are OK in loudness for a dual-speaker setup, though their sound is thin, metallic and tinny, offering little to no depth of sound, especially compared to the Pixels, and not representing higher frequency sounds or voices properly, often falling apart in the treble compared to my Turbo 2. The Pixels are quieter than the iPhones, but offer the most depth of sound and bass of the three, and tie with the Turbo 2 for the least distortion of sound. Thehigher frequency sounds and the treble are present and well-represented with little distortion, but my Turbo 2 has a more crystalline, more alive upper register than the Pixel and especially the iPhone 7.
---------- Post added at 08:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 AM ----------
BTW in loudness, all three of the aforementioned smartphones are a joke compared to my 6P. In quality, however, the Pixel and my Turbo 2 come close to my 6P. The iPhone 7 gets decimated by my 6P though.
Low and bad quality
In call volume is definitely lower than my old Zuk Z2. Now I have to crank up the volume to max and still have a hard time in noisy locations. The speaker quality is acceptable. But I expected loud speakers when we are paying top dollar.
Overall, Pixel gives off an average phone vibe with overpriced price.

dissapointed speakers??

I'm very disappointed with the speakers. There not bad...there great for watching films etc...there loud and crisp. But for music there not very good, they have practically zero bass and lacks depth. I know some might say listen with headphones but coming from the iPad pro, the iPad had a lot more depth and bass .
In settings you can change this with equaliser and Dolby atmos (like in Samsung music), I just discover that reading you and having same feeling as you !

Agreed, biggest disappointment of this tablet is the sound. If they made it wide screened for better media consumption, I was hoping that Samsung together with AKG will finally deliver. Unfortunately all Samsung devices sound like crap, including the Note line from Note 1. I have always rooted them to get at least better volume , but the quality of sound is still crap compared to Apple. I am not Apple fan at all. I am hoping for last 8 years that they will improve the sound quality on their devices.
Personally I think the sound quality on the SGTS4 is great when compared to the previous iterations of the SGTS series. They are good for media consumption and gaming. However I am not a hardcore audiophile.

Agreed. I had the same problem with the Tab S3. Atmos does help, but when sitting next to my buddy's 1st gen iPad Pro, the difference is embarrassing. I'm considering getting a pro. For the improved sound, and the hardware performance in general. I just hate having to pay for the pencil. The Tab S4 is a better deal.

Nothings really better on the iPad other than the speakers. I came from the pro 10.5
compared to the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition), my last tab, the sound is 12X better from the speakers, and entirely serviceable.
just not substantial...

Question Terribly tinny and imbalanced sound?

I noticed that the sound quality of the built-in speakers is... terrible... to be putting it mildly. Initially I thought there was just a lot of bass but during calls the sound is very "sharp" but not in a good way, more like hurting my ears piercing. When I'm playing videos or music, not only is the top speaker at most half of the lower speaker's volume, but the overall experience is like the phone was dropped into a tin can. I already tried Wavelet to balance the speakers but the sound quality still is abysmal. My 3.5 year-old S9+ outperforms the 6Pro by far. The little things that bother me with this phone keep adding up and I'm not sure how many more I can take. At least the call quality should be OK, right?
.... Hopefully it ain't anything wrong with your device but I definitely don't have such an issue. I think the sound is great. Honestly I'm kind of impressed at how well the top speaker sounds yet I can barely even see the speaker based on how seamless the screen goes into the frame at the top.
Is it the best sound of any smart phone... No I'm sure it's not. Is it better than my pixel 4XL which had great sound to me, Yes. They are actually the same loudness yet the 6 pro sound is clearer at full volume. I understand that sound is subjective however I would have to 1000% disagree with you.

ironically a semi audiophile on reddit did a full on rant today how the audio had too much bass
meanwhile reviews say the speakers sound good and have actual bass for once but the mids/high increase the higher the volume gets
honestly these are very good sounding speakers for a smartphone especially when i compare to my galaxy note 9

I don't know how good the S9+ sounds, never had one. What I can tell is that the P6 Pro sounds good, it has a slight imbalance between top and bottom, but in terms of clarity and bass, it's a good sounding phone speaker. So either your expectations are extraodinary, or your device is defective. Best go to the place where you bought it and ask that the store rep compares the sound of your phone to one that they have on display, that way you can quickly find out if your device has a defect.
Thank you all! Is there a good app or sound piece that I can use to test?

Wow really? You have them side by side and compared? I ask because my 4 XL was definitely better than my 2 XL and the 6 Pro is definitely louder and has more range than my 4 XL at all volume increments. I agree it's ever so slightly louder on the bottom speaker than the ear piece one but it's not horrible.

Wow really? You have them side by side and compared? I ask because my 4 XL was definitely better than my 2 XL and the 6 Pro is definitely louder and has more range than my 4 XL at all volume increments. I checked out the demo models at best buy both the 6 and pro. I will say at max volume the new devices are cleaner sounding.

Yeah in your home or reasonably quieter area than Best Buy, the difference is very noticeable. I keep all my sound volumes a little lower than my 4 XL settings because it's that much louder.
