T-Mobile LG G5 Unlocking Method for G5's never registered with T-Mobile - T-Mobile LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Edit: I had a Straight Talk sim (T-Mobile variant), and it didn't work until I unlocked it since it piggybacked off of AT&Ts towers.
I was successfully able to get my T-Mobile LG G5 unlocked without using third party services on 9-17-2017.
I bought my T-Mobile LG G5 off of Ebay with the fake OS level sim unlock which was removed when I reset my phone.
1. First call 1-877-746-0909 and answer to the bot "tech support" or "support agent" something around those lines.
Note: MY PHONE WAS NEVER ASSOCIATED WITH A T-MOBILE ACCOUNT, EVER.
2. Tell them that your phone was bought from a third party and paid in full, and tell them your IMEI# to verify that your IMEI is clean and able to be unlocked.
3. Tell them your carrier that you currently want to unlock with for verification purposes.
4. They should escalate your imei up to the tech team, and they will send you an unlock code to your email that you provided.
5. Profit!
I hope this works for other people, after looking for hours and hours, I finally just called T-Mobile and they were able to provide me with a solution.:good:

i did the same, they said it would be done in 48 hours, but still not done yet.
they said they would send me a email confirmation, never got that email

I was told the same thing after I chatted with T-Mobile on Facebook messenger. After 48 hours I tried the Device Unlock app and it worked. My device automatically rebooted and it was unlocked. I'm a T-Mobile customer for over 8 years. The OP didn't mention if he's a T-Mobile customer.

I called on Saturday morning...so technically its past 48 hrs now ...unless they meant week days.....'ll wait untill wedneaday....else will call again .....
I am tmobile customer since 5 yrs now

try using the Device Unlock app. I forgot to mention during the 48 hour wait period I updated the phone to 20K using LG Bridge. After the update the Device Unlock app worked. I don't know if the app would've worked before I updated the phone.

This IS relevant.
The T mobile unlocking app did not function at all on the 20i_un ROM. It loaded but errored out immediately. On 20k it runs fine...it just doesn't work to unlock.

If you are able to verify your IMEI in tmobile site then you would be able to use the Device unlock app to unlock it.

Unfortunately i am not able to

Today I called tmobile again since its been 48 hrs and my phone is still not unlocked.....the guy said it has been escalated and may take up to 2 weeks...
This is so much frustrating

I was turned down using the Facebook messenger support team initially but tried again a week later and they escalated my request a second time. I had to wait about two weeks but it finally went through. Note that I had to update to the 20K release via the LG Bridge tool before the unlock app would work.

They were keeping in touch with me via FB Messenger and giving me an update every couple of days. After not hearing from them for about 4 days I tried it and it worked. I'd keep trying it every day, can't hurt.

Guess what....I just tried the device unlock app...amd it worked....my phone is unlocked.....yahooo:laugh:

Hello !
How can I contact them, because im no longer in USA ? My application unlock is still failed.

I ordered from ebay seller BuySpry which ships with 20i_un firmware (Which loses unlock if upgraded or downgraded).
I m not in USA. I live in Bangladesh.
Can I also genuinely unlock my Phone from here?

Did someone get to unlock when buying on Ebay? That's what they told me in the Fasebook T-Mobile group: "We would need the original purchase receipt; if the seller purchased it from us, that's what we'd need to see - are you able to contact the seller to have them request the unlock?"
P.S. The device was purchased from BuySpry.

any idea when will be the unlocking through app will be available? seller on ebay and at cellunlocker that the app unlock system is currently down.

Hi, I made the mistake of buying the LG G5 on eBay (BuySPRY), now I have lost the unlock after updating I do not live in the US, is it possible that a friend to live in the US can call and try the steps indicated in the first post? Would it be enough if he only know the IMEI? Thanks for yours help.
PD: Excuse my bad English.

Hi,
What exactly did you guys tell the tech support or facebook messenger support team to do? I tried 3 rep and none could figure out what to do here or who to escalate to.
Thanks

I tried a few more times. Finally got a rep who apparently knows what's going on. I told her that I bought the phone from LG and unlock is saying the device is not a T-mobile device. She immediately said "I will get my supervisor to do an override. It will take 72 hours." She took my email.
No email from T-mobile yet. But I figured it won't hurt to try to run the device unlock app. It worked!
The phone rebooted. I shut it down and put in an AT&T sim. It did not complain though could not use it (the sim is not active on any account). Put back T-mobile sim and it worked fine. Notice that the device unlock disappeared
Thanks for the help!

Good for you @redhonker
I tried using the service of Cellunlocker, got an email from them that it says my device is now unlocked but when I tried the device unlock app it still says Unlock Failed.

I ordered mines 9 days ago and it does not work! sent me another code! and still does not work, THEY ARE SCAMMERS!... I asked for a refund after made all the video and all THE TIDIOUS PROCESS for refund. tHEY SUCK... MADE ME WASTE 9 DAYS OF WAITING WHEN THE TURN AROUND TIME IS 1-2DAYS AS their website list. do not use CELLUNLOCKER.NET
Just use a local service usually 20-30 dollars.. i got mines unlocked for a TELCEL and it works. I really dont suggest using any online sites since they send you a non-working code and since the phone is recnet model, then they dont have the options to unlock it. Dont make the same mistake i made.

Did you buy your phone online? Do you know the original owner? I ran it to the issue where the sell of my phone was the original owner and still had the cell phone under is name with ATT but not activate. The seller has to contact ATT and let them know that they sold the device and then once it is release the unlock code works.

I just unlocked my Note 4 and my wife's Note Edge in the last couple weeks and I used imei-unlocker.com. It was $29.90 something and worked flawlessly. We had the codes back and phones unlocked within a few hours of placing an order.
Just a quick tip for anyone else needing to unlock, try going though ATT first.
I bought my phone used and submitted the info and while it said 2 business days I had my code within minutes - for free.

To unlock from att directly like others have suggested it looks like you need a valid account and phone number with them. I am wondering if there is any way around this or if you can just call them and explain you bought a refurbed unit off ebay and simply want to unlock it.

Bounty thread for internation (H850) port to H830 - Potential sim unlock method

This thread is a bounty to get a proper port of the H850 framework. This will allow us to enjoy all the feature of the H850 on our H830. Personally I am hoping this will make unlocking my G5 easier because we should be able to obtain our unlock codes (I already have mine) and do it the standard way. But understand when pledging that is only a theory and no guarantees.
If you pledge please pay up once it has been achieved.
As always this port must be something the average user can flash. Once it has been achieved we will discuss with the dev(s) on how/if they want to receive their donations.
So far the devs I know of are @autoprime and @Miustone
Pledges:
jkhan49 - $25
liushangrong - $50
Total: $75
Decided to sell my phone so I removed my pledge but I'll keep updating it for you. I got impatient after a month an a half.

The same thing happened to me and a lot of other people. My IMEI wasn't showing in their system so they said they couldn't unlock it. Don't listen to them. Lodge a complaint with the FCC saying they REFUSE to unlock your phone then contact Jennifer (information is below). I found it in another XDA thread. I got a call back in a few days (you have to be patient) from a Dianne who said they would escalate the issue and OVERRIDE it in the system to unlock it. Later I got a call back saying to retry the unlock app and it worked. You have to be past the 40 days of service though. I'm not sure why it didn't work for the other guy but you have to be persistent and don't take no for an answer. Be polite but persistent. By law they have to unlock it.

I used LGUP to reflash the stock ROM temporarily until it was unlocked because rooting it after the unlock does not remove the unlock SIM unlocks are permanent no matter what you flash to the device since the unlock is stored on a separate chip than the system. It shouldn't matter if your rooted but I would reflash stock to be sure. Also, I SIM unlocked to get AT&T but AT&T really sucked on it, I never got a single drop of LTE and I even went to the AT&T store and called their customer service many times and the phone was definitely set up right (APN, preferred tech, ect.). It may just be my area though. I'm back with T-Mobile now because it's much better than any other carrier in my area. I spoke with Diana at T-Mobile for the unlock.

Hello nkhater
Thanks for the tip .
It will not work because it will fail/blocked in TMOBILE SERVICE ?
I pictured the whole process like :
1) The "DEVICE UNLOCK" app , send the IMEI # (faked one) to the TMO server
2) The Server will check to see if the IMEI number is not blacklisted / etc
3) Since the number is Eligible to unlock (it has been unlocked before) - the server will send GOOD respond to the phone
4) The phone will be unlocked (for good)
5) then - I'll retrieve the original IMEI to the phone.
In what stage do you think - the process will fail ?

Unlocking T-Mobile 1+1 Samsung S8+

Are you paying for the phone in full immediately, or paying monthly for it? There is no way to install a new ROM since there is no root or bootloader unlock yet.

Yes, because TMobile won't unlock the phone unless it's paid off.

There's an unlock app built right into the phone by T-Mobile. As long as it's paid off fully, the app "should" see that and permanently unlock it.
Also, you need to be on t-mobile for at least 40 days.
If he calls on and says he is traveling he could get it done in less than 40 days. I had my LG V20 unlocked with around 28 days on the T-Mobile network.

Yes this is true.. I "traveled" numerous times, and TMO Reps request the unlock, as long as the device is paid off. I had my unlock acceptance. Hence, I requested my unlock on Friday April 22nd, and got the acceptance on April 24th. In reality the 40 day rule has a loophole.

Good thing you went though T-Force, every other support channel seems totally clueless about unlocking T-Mobile phones bought directly through Samsung. They try to whitelist the IMEI in the Device Unlock app, but that won't work. They need to send a request to add the IMEI to their inventory system so it looks like it was sold by them.

Carrier Unlock T-Mobile? Where to get used SIM?

I got ahold of a used t-mobile z2 force. Considering I'm still using a 2012 phone, this will be quite an upgrade for me. I tried the t-mobile app to carrier unlock but no luck. From reading here, it seems there are two options.
#1 - Get new a prepaid sim, activiate, then add $100 credit, wait a few days, then try the app again, eventually it will work.
#2 - Get/Borrow a used sim (doesn't matter if prepaid), put it in the phone, wait a few days, then try the app again, eventually it will work.
Am I right?
If so, any suggestions where to find a used sim? I tried ebay and they're all new and unactivated. Or maybe someone here did option 1 and doesn't need their sim anymore, PM me.
I looked into option #1 myself but at $3/month for voice/text only, it's not real useful to me as I use hangouts/voice for voice & text, all I really need is data. And with the prepaid unlimited I'd use up my $100 in two months, kinda a waste imo.
What error message did you receive? There are two kinds; the device is not eligible for an unlock or the device is unknown.
Unlock Failed: This mobile device is not eligible for unlock. For device Unlock eligibility details, please go online or contact Customer Care.
That error means the device is recognized by the server and can be unlocked when it is eligible. Since you’re not the original owner you won’t have any way of knowing when it will be eligible. The phone could still be on a payment plan or the original buyer could have defaulted.
If you need it unlocked quickly your best bet maybe finding a third party unlock service that can flag your IMEI as unlock eligible with the unlock server.
I'm more concerned about cheaply than quickly.
My understanding tho is that it is not under any contract. But even so my understanding is that the app won't unlock unless there's a SIM card in there too from an existing customer... but this is just based on searches, I'm still unsure.
I believe the phone has to be used for at least 45 days on a T-Mobile account to be considered for unlock.
If I had family or friend on t-mobile I'd ask them to use this phone a while. But I don't unfortunately, that would be the easiest.
I had my unactivated new in box T-Mobile z2 force that i got from a trade unlocked in a week after getting prepaid and putting 100 on it. That was the fastest and easiest way not knowing ppl who use tmo. Just wait a few days then call tech support and get them to escalate the unlock...say it's work related...after that restart and it will be unlocked.
I want cheapest, not fastest or easiest. $100 for unlock sounds crazy. Don't suppose you still have that sim card?
I don't know if my Sim would even help. I think with prepaid they go by imei so you might even have to add that $ to it. I think the Sim is just the door bell button.
oh... yeah I better figure that out. If they require prepaid sim to have added $100 since first used on that particular imei, then a used sim doesn't help.
So seems like 3 options.
1 - fork out the $100 to t-mobile,
2 - borrow a non prepaid t-mobile sim (loan my phone to someone) for possibly up to 45 days before able to unlock
3 - find and pay an unlock service
I wonder what these unlock services do that I can't.
Anyone have the link to the apk?

They have a contact with someone at T-Mobile that can flag your IMEI as unlock eligible with the unlock server.

The app is preinstalled on supported phones only. If your phone does not have the app then it uses a different method to Sim unlock.
I tried 3 different eBay seller and none could provide me with a code.
Well I just paid $60 to try cellunlocker.net; hopefully it works. An advertisement posted 5 days ago says it will...

Have you heard anything in the meantime? I got an email (after I posted here last) saying it was ready, but it still won't unlock. Called them and the guy said sorry they'll re-do it, something about the wrong server. So back to waiting... losing confidence but still hopeful...
If it isn't too much trouble, keep me updated (in this thread) as to what happens for you, or if you end up asking for refund, etc....
Codes don't work on T-Mobile phones once the unlock app is on the device. Hopefully there isn't a balance on the device which would prevent it from being unlocked. For all the phones I use the app for, cuz I have T-Mobile and have gone through a quite a few devices, once it's paid off usually the app automatically works long as it was active service for 40 days prior.
Before the app I knew you could have someone with T-Mobile use this phone for a few days until it registers on the network and then you can request an unlock code and have it escalated.
I really want to lose patience

I really want to lose patience。Did you unlock it? My order has been for a month

Sim Unlock Success (Not bait I swear)

TLDR: I was able to get my unlock code from Codes2Unlock (even with my phone having an unpaid balance).
Go to Codes2Unlock website, choose any microsoft lumia device, put in the IMEI for the Duo, once you get a confirmation email, forward it to their support rep telling them that its a surface duo and that there was no option for a Surface Duo on their website, Play the waiting game, and Enjoy once they send it over.
I (probably like you) for the longest time wanted to get my surface unlocked but couldnt because at the time i was paying on my device AT&T gave me the run around with unlock codes, and so did microsoft. Because of the area i lived in the duo was basically useless on AT&T and i literally only switched from tmobile for that phone.
I checked website after website and nobody was able to do it. I happened to remember Codes2Unlock.com from years ago when I got an unlock code from them for my Galaxy S4. So i emailed them, asked if they supported unlocking the surface duo. they said yes-- strange thing was on their site theres no option for the surface duo even though if you google it, theres a link saying they do.
So the support rep (who replies fast af lol) messaged me back asking if my device asks for an unlock pin--i said yes-- the support person said it should be no problem.
I mentioned to them that theres no option for the surface Duo and that only Lumia devices show-- they said just select any Microsoft Lumia device, send the confirmation email with the IMEI and let them know its a surface duo and they'll update it on their end. they also mentioned (after asking) that an unpaid device doesnt matter and they can still get an unlock code.
I forwarded the same Rep the confirmation email and 5 days later (this morning) i woke up with my unlock code and now my Duo runs on T-Mobile.
If theres any doubts ill reply with screenshots but im at work rn so it was just easier to type all this out first. Hope this helps anyone stuck on AT&T
I have been told by both Microsoft and AT&T to pound sand. Open an account and use the phone on a paid plan. Just tried your method and I'm waiting a response with my code. They did reply to my updated device info within 5 minutes. Super fast. Thanks thanks for the suggestion, hope this works better than then dialing AT&T or Microsoft support. I will update to confirm this works. Sorry for posting in two threads.

Did you email them like I mentioned in the post?
Good morning all. I would like to report back that I Did get this thing unlocked. However, and that is a Big however, AT&T nor the mentioned supplier was able to confirm the existence of the imei Without the phone first being registered on the AT&T network. I had to buy a prepaid plan to get the phone to work. Then, magically, 18 hours later I got the confirmation from AT&T after emails saying "we are further investigating your request.". The mentioned supplier also said that it didn't exist till then. I canceled my request after AT&T finally came through. BE Warned! Even tried redpocket (AT&T mvno) and they couldn't even do the initial activation.

I had to buy a prepay plan for them to unlock it because without putting it on att first, it didn't exist to them. Yes, activated on att to get unlock code, got code, swapped Sim, entered code and unlocked. That was the final resolution to getting it unlocked.

Oof yeah that's because they don't register the IMEI in their system until the phone is activated. Which is likely why codes2unlock couldn't find it either

So, that being said.... To update everyone, IF YOU BUY A NEW SEALED IN THE BOX PHONE, it cannot be unlocked unless first actually being registered/activated on the network it is locked to. Silly me bought a new sealed device and tried to unlock it without paying the man first. Really wish there was some direction on this before I bought it. Oh well. I figured there would be a record somewhere since the DID assign it an IMEI.

If it is an att model, it has the att Sim in it. Not sure about activation overseas. I don't understand why nobody mentions this. I have never bought a sealed locked phone just to unlock it so I didn't know. To me, it sounds like there is no master list or database of what phones and imei's got made. It doesn't exist until it is activated. I hope you don't, but sounds like you do. I bought it originally to test to see if I wanted to trade it in with Ms for the duo 2, so it wasn't a deal breaker...but if I didn't like it, I would have been stuck with it.

As it it now, I have to get a prepaid AT&T when i get back in the country.... oh, well...
I just tried to go through codes2unlock and after more than double the 7 working days and two support request emails going unanswered I would strongly warn against using codes2unlock. Seems I've been scammed out of the 35usd fee, buyer beware.
Anyone tried this service recently?
